Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire, died in Agra on 26 December 1530. He had defeated the Lodi sultanate at Panipat in 1526 and built his rule in northern India. His son Humayun succeeded him. Babur was first buried in Agra, and his remains were later taken to Kabul, as he had wished.
Why it matters
His memoir, the Baburnama, is one of the earliest autobiographies written in the Islamic world.
