In 10 AH, Prophet Muhammad performed the Hajj with a large group of followers, often estimated at more than 100,000. On the Day of Arafah, which is 9 Dhu al-Hijjah, he gave a sermon on the sanctity of life and property, on equality, and on the rights of others. He told the people to hold firmly to the Quran and to his example. Many Muslims regard this as the only complete Hajj he performed.
Why it matters
The sermon is recorded in hadith collections and is cited as the Prophet's last major address to the community.
