Battle·Rashidun

Ridda Wars

Date
632 CE11 AH1,394 years ago
Place
Arabia (Najd, Yamama, Bahrain, Yemen)
People
Abu Bakr, Khalid ibn al-Walid, Musaylima

After the Prophet's death, several Arab tribes refused to pay zakat or rejected the authority of Medina. Others followed rival prophets, including Musaylima of the Banu Hanifa. Abu Bakr sent armies under commanders such as Khalid ibn al-Walid to bring the tribes back. The Battle of Yamama in 12 AH (633 CE) ended the main rebellion. Most tribes then returned to the Medina-based state.

Why it matters

The campaigns kept the Medina-based state united and extended its authority across most of the Arabian Peninsula.
