- Date

- Place
- Makran and lower Indus valley
- People
- Hakam ibn Amr al-Taghlibi
Arab forces first raided the Indus region during the caliphates of Umar and Uthman. According to most accounts, a raid in 644 CE led by Hakam ibn Amr al-Taghlibi crossed Makran, the desert region to the west, toward Sindh. The raiders suffered losses in the harsh terrain and withdrew. These expeditions were not a permanent conquest, and the sources for them are limited.
Why it matters
These early raids were the first Muslim military contact with Sindh, which was later conquered in 711.
