The Battle of Yamama was fought in central Arabia in late 632, during the Ridda wars that followed the Prophet's death. A Rashidun army under Khalid ibn al-Walid faced the forces of Musaylima, a rival who claimed prophecy. Musaylima was killed in the battle. Many Companions also died, and the traditional account links these losses to the later collection of the Quran.
Why it matters
The victory ended the main rebellion in central Arabia and brought the region back under Medina.
