Islamic tradition calls the year around 619 the Year of Sorrow. Khadijah, the Prophet's wife, and his uncle Abu Talib died in this period. Both had protected Muhammad in Mecca. Their deaths left him without two key supporters, and he later went to Ta'if and then to Medina. Sources differ on the exact dates of the two deaths.
