ٱلْحَمْدُ
al-ḥamduAll Praise
لِلَّهِ
lillahi(is) for Allah
ٱلَّذِىٓ
alladhīthe One Who
أَنزَلَ
anzala(has) revealed
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāto
عَبْدِهِ
ʿabdihiHis slave
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ
l-kitābathe Book
وَلَمْ
walamand not
يَجْعَل
yajʿal(has) made
لَّهُۥ
lahuin it
عِوَجَاۜ
ʿiwajāany crookedness
١
(1)
[All] praise is [due] to Allāh, who has sent down upon His Servant [Muḥammad (ﷺ)] the Book and has not made therein any deviance.

قَيِّمًۭا
qayyimanStraight
لِّيُنذِرَ
liyundhirato warn
بَأْسًۭا
basan(of) a punishment
شَدِيدًۭا
shadīdansevere
مِّن
minfrom
لَّدُنْهُ
ladun'hunear Him
وَيُبَشِّرَ
wayubashiraand give glad tidings
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
l-mu'minīna(to) the believers
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
يَعْمَلُونَ
yaʿmalūnado
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
أَنَّ
annathat
لَهُمْ
lahumfor them
أَجْرًا
ajran(is) a good reward
حَسَنًۭا
ḥasanan(is) a good reward
٢
(2)
[He has made it] straight, to warn of severe punishment from Him and to give good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a good reward [i.e., Paradise]

مَّـٰكِثِينَ
mākithīna(They will) abide
فِيهِ
fīhiin it
أَبَدًۭا
abadanforever
٣
(3)
In which they will remain forever

وَيُنذِرَ
wayundhiraAnd to warn
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
قَالُوا۟
qālūsay
ٱتَّخَذَ
ittakhadhaAllah has taken
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah has taken
وَلَدًۭا
waladana son
٤
(4)
And to warn those who say, "Allāh has taken a son."

مَّا
Not
لَهُم
lahumthey have
بِهِۦ
bihiabout it
مِنْ
minany
عِلْمٍۢ
ʿil'minknowledge
وَلَا
walāand not
لِـَٔابَآئِهِمْ ۚ
liābāihimtheir forefathers
كَبُرَتْ
kaburatMighty (is)
كَلِمَةًۭ
kalimatanthe word
تَخْرُجُ
takhruju(that) comes out
مِنْ
minof
أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ ۚ
afwāhihimtheir mouths
إِن
inNot
يَقُولُونَ
yaqūlūnathey say
إِلَّا
illāexcept
كَذِبًۭا
kadhibana lie
٥
(5)
They have no knowledge of it, nor had their fathers. Grave is the word that comes out of their mouths; they speak not except a lie.

فَلَعَلَّكَ
falaʿallakaThen perhaps you would (be)
بَـٰخِعٌۭ
bākhiʿunthe one who kills
نَّفْسَكَ
nafsakayourself
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalāover
ءَاثَـٰرِهِمْ
āthārihimtheir footsteps
إِن
inif
لَّمْ
lamnot
يُؤْمِنُوا۟
yu'minūthey believe
بِهَـٰذَا
bihādhāin this
ٱلْحَدِيثِ
l-ḥadīthi[the] narration
أَسَفًا
asafan(in) grief
٦
(6)
Then perhaps you would kill yourself through grief over them, [O Muḥammad], if they do not believe in this message, [and] out of sorrow.

إِنَّا
innāIndeed, We
جَعَلْنَا
jaʿalnāWe have made
مَا
what
عَلَى
ʿalā(is) on
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
زِينَةًۭ
zīnatanadornment
لَّهَا
lahāfor it
لِنَبْلُوَهُمْ
linabluwahumthat We may test [them]
أَيُّهُمْ
ayyuhumwhich of them
أَحْسَنُ
aḥsanu(is) best
عَمَلًۭا
ʿamalan(in) deed
٧
(7)
Indeed, We have made that which is on the earth adornment for it that We may test them [as to] which of them is best in deed.

وَإِنَّا
wa-innāAnd indeed, We
لَجَـٰعِلُونَ
lajāʿilūna(will) surely make
مَا
what
عَلَيْهَا
ʿalayhā(is) on it
صَعِيدًۭا
ṣaʿīdansoil
جُرُزًا
juruzanbarren
٨
(8)
And indeed, We will make that which is upon it [into] a barren ground.

أَمْ
amOr
حَسِبْتَ
ḥasib'tahave you thought
أَنَّ
annathat
أَصْحَـٰبَ
aṣḥāba(the) companions
ٱلْكَهْفِ
l-kahfi(of) the cave
وَٱلرَّقِيمِ
wal-raqīmiand the inscription
كَانُوا۟
kānūwere
مِنْ
minamong
ءَايَـٰتِنَا
āyātināOur Signs
عَجَبًا
ʿajabana wonder
٩
(9)
Or have you thought that the companions of the cave and the inscription were, among Our signs, a wonder?

إِذْ
idhWhen
أَوَى
awāretreated
ٱلْفِتْيَةُ
l-fit'yatuthe youths
إِلَى
ilāto
ٱلْكَهْفِ
l-kahfithe cave
فَقَالُوا۟
faqālūand they said
رَبَّنَآ
rabbanāOur Lord
ءَاتِنَا
ātināGrant us
مِن
minfrom
لَّدُنكَ
ladunkaYourself
رَحْمَةًۭ
raḥmatanMercy
وَهَيِّئْ
wahayyiand facilitate
لَنَا
lanāfor us
مِنْ
min[from]
أَمْرِنَا
amrināour affair
رَشَدًۭا
rashadan(in the) right way
١٠
(10)
[Mention] when the youths retreated to the cave and said, "Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance."

فَضَرَبْنَا
faḍarabnāSo We cast
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalāover
ءَاذَانِهِمْ
ādhānihimtheir ears
فِى
in
ٱلْكَهْفِ
l-kahfithe cave
سِنِينَ
sinīnayears
عَدَدًۭا
ʿadadana number
١١
(11)
So We cast [a cover of sleep] over their ears within the cave for a number of years.

ثُمَّ
thummaThen
بَعَثْنَـٰهُمْ
baʿathnāhumWe raised them up
لِنَعْلَمَ
linaʿlamathat We make evident
أَىُّ
ayyuwhich
ٱلْحِزْبَيْنِ
l-ḥiz'bayni(of) the two parties
أَحْصَىٰ
aḥṣābest calculated
لِمَا
limāfor what
لَبِثُوٓا۟
labithū(they had) remained
أَمَدًۭا
amadan(in) time
١٢
(12)
Then We awakened them that We might show which of the two factions was most precise in calculating what [extent] they had remained in time.

نَّحْنُ
naḥnuWe
نَقُصُّ
naquṣṣunarrate
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalaykato you
نَبَأَهُم
naba-ahumtheir story
بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ
bil-ḥaqiin truth
إِنَّهُمْ
innahumIndeed, they (were)
فِتْيَةٌ
fit'yatunyouths
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūwho believed
بِرَبِّهِمْ
birabbihimin their Lord
وَزِدْنَـٰهُمْ
wazid'nāhumand We increased them
هُدًۭى
hudan(in) guidance
١٣
(13)
It is We who relate to you, [O Muḥammad], their story in truth. Indeed, they were youths who believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance.

وَرَبَطْنَا
warabaṭnāAnd We made firm
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā[on]
قُلُوبِهِمْ
qulūbihimtheir hearts
إِذْ
idhwhen
قَامُوا۟
qāmūthey stood up
فَقَالُوا۟
faqālūand said
رَبُّنَا
rabbunāOur Lord
رَبُّ
rabbu(is) the Lord
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍiand the earth
لَن
lanNever
نَّدْعُوَا۟
nadʿuwāwe will invoke
مِن
minbesides Him
دُونِهِۦٓ
dūnihibesides Him
إِلَـٰهًۭا ۖ
ilāhanany god
لَّقَدْ
laqadCertainly
قُلْنَآ
qul'nāwe would have said
إِذًۭا
idhanthen
شَطَطًا
shaṭaṭanan enormity
١٤
(14)
And We bound [i.e., made firm] their hearts when they stood up and said, "Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. Never will we invoke besides Him any deity. We would have certainly spoken, then, an excessive transgression.

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ
hāulāiThese
قَوْمُنَا
qawmunāour people
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟
ittakhadhūhave taken
مِن
minbesides Him
دُونِهِۦٓ
dūnihibesides Him
ءَالِهَةًۭ ۖ
ālihatangods
لَّوْلَا
lawlāWhy not
يَأْتُونَ
yatūnathey come
عَلَيْهِم
ʿalayhimto them
بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۭ
bisul'ṭāninwith an authority
بَيِّنٍۢ ۖ
bayyininclear
فَمَنْ
famanAnd who
أَظْلَمُ
aẓlamu(is) more wrong
مِمَّنِ
mimmanithan (one) who
ٱفْتَرَىٰ
if'tarāinvents
عَلَى
ʿalāagainst
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
كَذِبًۭا
kadhibana lie
١٥
(15)
These, our people, have taken besides Him deities. Why do they not bring for [worship of] them a clear evidence? And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allāh a lie?"

وَإِذِ
wa-idhiAnd when
ٱعْتَزَلْتُمُوهُمْ
iʿ'tazaltumūhumyou withdraw from them
وَمَا
wamāand what
يَعْبُدُونَ
yaʿbudūnathey worship
إِلَّا
illāexcept
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
فَأْوُۥٓا۟
fawūthen retreat
إِلَى
ilāto
ٱلْكَهْفِ
l-kahfithe cave
يَنشُرْ
yanshurWill spread
لَكُمْ
lakumfor you
رَبُّكُم
rabbukumyour Lord
مِّن
minof
رَّحْمَتِهِۦ
raḥmatihiHis Mercy
وَيُهَيِّئْ
wayuhayyiand will facilitate
لَكُم
lakumfor you
مِّنْ
min[from]
أَمْرِكُم
amrikumyour affair
مِّرْفَقًۭا
mir'faqan(in) ease
١٦
(16)
[The youths said to one another], "And when you have withdrawn from them and that which they worship other than Allāh, retreat to the cave. Your Lord will spread out for you of His mercy and will prepare for you from your affair facility."

۞ وَتَرَى
watarāAnd you (might) have seen
ٱلشَّمْسَ
l-shamsathe sun
إِذَا
idhāwhen
طَلَعَت
ṭalaʿatit rose
تَّزَٰوَرُ
tazāwaruinclining away
عَن
ʿanfrom
كَهْفِهِمْ
kahfihimtheir cave
ذَاتَ
dhātato
ٱلْيَمِينِ
l-yamīnithe right
وَإِذَا
wa-idhāand when
غَرَبَت
gharabatit set
تَّقْرِضُهُمْ
taqriḍuhumpassing away from them
ذَاتَ
dhātato
ٱلشِّمَالِ
l-shimālithe left
وَهُمْ
wahumwhile they
فِى
(lay) in
فَجْوَةٍۢ
fajwatinthe open space
مِّنْهُ ۚ
min'huthereof
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
مِنْ
min(was) from
ءَايَـٰتِ
āyāti(the) Signs
ٱللَّهِ ۗ
l-lahi(of) Allah
مَن
manWhoever
يَهْدِ
yahdiAllah guides
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah guides
فَهُوَ
fahuwaand he
ٱلْمُهْتَدِ ۖ
l-muh'tadi(is) the guided one
وَمَن
wamanand whoever
يُضْلِلْ
yuḍ'lilHe lets go astray
فَلَن
falanthen never
تَجِدَ
tajidayou will find
لَهُۥ
lahufor him
وَلِيًّۭا
waliyyana protector
مُّرْشِدًۭا
mur'shidana guide
١٧
(17)
And [had you been present], you would see the sun when it rose, inclining away from their cave on the right, and when it set, passing away from them on the left, while they were [lying] within an open space thereof. That was from the signs of Allāh. He whom Allāh guides is the [rightly] guided, but he whom He sends astray - never will you find for him a protecting guide.

وَتَحْسَبُهُمْ
wataḥsabuhumAnd you (would) think them
أَيْقَاظًۭا
ayqāẓanawake
وَهُمْ
wahumwhile they
رُقُودٌۭ ۚ
ruqūdun(were) asleep
وَنُقَلِّبُهُمْ
wanuqallibuhumAnd We turned them
ذَاتَ
dhātato
ٱلْيَمِينِ
l-yamīnithe right
وَذَاتَ
wadhātaand to
ٱلشِّمَالِ ۖ
l-shimālithe left
وَكَلْبُهُم
wakalbuhumwhile their dog
بَـٰسِطٌۭ
bāsiṭunstretched
ذِرَاعَيْهِ
dhirāʿayhihis two forelegs
بِٱلْوَصِيدِ ۚ
bil-waṣīdiat the entrance
لَوِ
lawiIf
ٱطَّلَعْتَ
iṭṭalaʿtayou had looked
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhimat them
لَوَلَّيْتَ
lawallaytayou (would) have surely turned back
مِنْهُمْ
min'humfrom them
فِرَارًۭا
firāran(in) flight
وَلَمُلِئْتَ
walamuli'taand surely you would have been filled
مِنْهُمْ
min'humby them
رُعْبًۭا
ruʿ'ban(with) terror
١٨
(18)
And you would think them awake, while they were asleep. And We turned them to the right and to the left, while their dog stretched his forelegs at the entrance. If you had looked at them, you would have turned from them in flight and been filled by them with terror.

وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālikaAnd similarly
بَعَثْنَـٰهُمْ
baʿathnāhumWe raised them
لِيَتَسَآءَلُوا۟
liyatasāalūthat they might question
بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ
baynahumamong them
قَالَ
qālaSaid
قَآئِلٌۭ
qāiluna speaker
مِّنْهُمْ
min'humamong them
كَمْ
kamHow long
لَبِثْتُمْ ۖ
labith'tumhave you remained
قَالُوا۟
qālūThey said
لَبِثْنَا
labith'nāWe have remained
يَوْمًا
yawmana day
أَوْ
awor
بَعْضَ
baʿḍaa part
يَوْمٍۢ ۚ
yawmin(of) a day
قَالُوا۟
qālūThey said
رَبُّكُمْ
rabbukumYour Lord
أَعْلَمُ
aʿlamuknows best
بِمَا
bimāhow long
لَبِثْتُمْ
labith'tumyou have remained
فَٱبْعَثُوٓا۟
fa-ib'ʿathūSo send
أَحَدَكُم
aḥadakumone of you
بِوَرِقِكُمْ
biwariqikumwith this silver coin of yours
هَـٰذِهِۦٓ
hādhihiwith this silver coin of yours
إِلَى
ilāto
ٱلْمَدِينَةِ
l-madīnatithe city
فَلْيَنظُرْ
falyanẓurand let him see
أَيُّهَآ
ayyuhāwhich is
أَزْكَىٰ
azkāthe purest
طَعَامًۭا
ṭaʿāmanfood
فَلْيَأْتِكُم
falyatikumand let him bring to you
بِرِزْقٍۢ
biriz'qinprovision
مِّنْهُ
min'hufrom it
وَلْيَتَلَطَّفْ
walyatalaṭṭafand let him be cautious
وَلَا
walāAnd let not be aware
يُشْعِرَنَّ
yush'ʿirannaAnd let not be aware
بِكُمْ
bikumabout you
أَحَدًا
aḥadananyone
١٩
(19)
And similarly, We awakened them that they might question one another. Said a speaker from among them, "How long have you remained [here]?" They said, "We have remained a day or part of a day." They said, "Your Lord is most knowing of how long you remained. So send one of you with this silver coin of yours to the city and let him look to which is the best of food and bring you provision from it and let him be cautious. And let no one be aware of you.

إِنَّهُمْ
innahumIndeed, [they]
إِن
inif
يَظْهَرُوا۟
yaẓharūthey come to know
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykumabout you
يَرْجُمُوكُمْ
yarjumūkumthey will stone you
أَوْ
awor
يُعِيدُوكُمْ
yuʿīdūkumreturn you
فِى
to
مِلَّتِهِمْ
millatihimtheir religion
وَلَن
walanAnd never
تُفْلِحُوٓا۟
tuf'liḥūwill you succeed
إِذًا
idhanthen
أَبَدًۭا
abadanever
٢٠
(20)
Indeed, if they come to know of you, they will stone you or return you to their religion. And never would you succeed, then - ever."

وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālikaAnd similarly
أَعْثَرْنَا
aʿtharnāWe made known
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhimabout them
لِيَعْلَمُوٓا۟
liyaʿlamūthat they might know
أَنَّ
annathat
وَعْدَ
waʿda(the) Promise
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
حَقٌّۭ
ḥaqqun(is) true
وَأَنَّ
wa-annaand that
ٱلسَّاعَةَ
l-sāʿata(about) the Hour
لَا
(there is) no
رَيْبَ
raybadoubt
فِيهَآ
fīhāin it
إِذْ
idhWhen
يَتَنَـٰزَعُونَ
yatanāzaʿūnathey disputed
بَيْنَهُمْ
baynahumamong themselves
أَمْرَهُمْ ۖ
amrahumabout their affair
فَقَالُوا۟
faqālūand they said
ٱبْنُوا۟
ib'nūConstruct
عَلَيْهِم
ʿalayhimover them
بُنْيَـٰنًۭا ۖ
bun'yānana structure
رَّبُّهُمْ
rabbuhumTheir Lord
أَعْلَمُ
aʿlamuknows best
بِهِمْ ۚ
bihimabout them
قَالَ
qālaSaid
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
غَلَبُوا۟
ghalabūprevailed
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalāin
أَمْرِهِمْ
amrihimtheir matter
لَنَتَّخِذَنَّ
lanattakhidhannaSurely we will take
عَلَيْهِم
ʿalayhimover them
مَّسْجِدًۭا
masjidana place of worship
٢١
(21)
And similarly, We caused them to be found that they [who found them] would know that the promise of Allāh is truth and that of the Hour there is no doubt. [That was] when they disputed among themselves about their affair and [then] said, "Construct over them a structure. Their Lord is most knowing about them." Said those who prevailed in the matter, "We will surely take [for ourselves] over them a masjid."

سَيَقُولُونَ
sayaqūlūnaThey say
ثَلَـٰثَةٌۭ
thalāthatun(they were) three
رَّابِعُهُمْ
rābiʿuhumthe forth of them
كَلْبُهُمْ
kalbuhumtheir dog
وَيَقُولُونَ
wayaqūlūnaand they say
خَمْسَةٌۭ
khamsatun(they were) five
سَادِسُهُمْ
sādisuhumthe sixth of them
كَلْبُهُمْ
kalbuhumtheir dog
رَجْمًۢا
rajmanguessing
بِٱلْغَيْبِ ۖ
bil-ghaybiabout the unseen
وَيَقُولُونَ
wayaqūlūnaand they say
سَبْعَةٌۭ
sabʿatun(they were) seven
وَثَامِنُهُمْ
wathāminuhumand the eight of them
كَلْبُهُمْ ۚ
kalbuhumtheir dog
قُل
qulSay
رَّبِّىٓ
rabbīMy Lord
أَعْلَمُ
aʿlamuknows best
بِعِدَّتِهِم
biʿiddatihimtheir number
مَّا
None
يَعْلَمُهُمْ
yaʿlamuhumknows them
إِلَّا
illāexcept
قَلِيلٌۭ ۗ
qalīluna few
فَلَا
falāSo (do) not
تُمَارِ
tumāriargue
فِيهِمْ
fīhimabout them
إِلَّا
illāexcept
مِرَآءًۭ
mirāan(with) an argument
ظَـٰهِرًۭا
ẓāhiranobvious
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تَسْتَفْتِ
tastaftiinquire
فِيهِم
fīhimabout them
مِّنْهُمْ
min'humamong them
أَحَدًۭا
aḥadan(from) anyone
٢٢
(22)
They [i.e., people] will say there were three, the fourth of them being their dog; and they will say there were five, the sixth of them being their dog - guessing at the unseen; and they will say there were seven, and the eighth of them was their dog. Say, [O Muḥammad], "My Lord is most knowing of their number. None knows them except a few. So do not argue about them except with an obvious argument and do not inquire about them among [the speculators] from anyone."

وَلَا
walāAnd (do) not
تَقُولَنَّ
taqūlannasay
لِشَا۟ىْءٍ
lishāy'inof anything
إِنِّى
innīIndeed, I
فَاعِلٌۭ
fāʿilunwill do
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikathat
غَدًا
ghadantomorrow
٢٣
(23)
And never say of anything, "Indeed, I will do that tomorrow,"

إِلَّآ
illāExcept
أَن
anIf
يَشَآءَ
yashāaAllah wills
ٱللَّهُ ۚ
l-lahuAllah wills
وَٱذْكُر
wa-udh'kurAnd remember
رَّبَّكَ
rabbakayour Lord
إِذَا
idhāwhen
نَسِيتَ
nasītayou forget
وَقُلْ
waquland say
عَسَىٰٓ
ʿasāPerhaps
أَن
an[that]
يَهْدِيَنِ
yahdiyaniwill guide me
رَبِّى
rabbīmy Lord
لِأَقْرَبَ
li-aqrabato a nearer (way)
مِنْ
minthan
هَـٰذَا
hādhāthis
رَشَدًۭا
rashadanright way
٢٤
(24)
Except [when adding], "If Allāh wills." And remember your Lord when you forget [it] and say, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to what is nearer than this to right conduct."

وَلَبِثُوا۟
walabithūAnd they remained
فِى
in
كَهْفِهِمْ
kahfihimtheir cave
ثَلَـٰثَ
thalātha(for) three
مِا۟ئَةٍۢ
mi-atinhundred
سِنِينَ
sinīnayears
وَٱزْدَادُوا۟
wa-iz'dādūand add
تِسْعًۭا
tis'ʿannine
٢٥
(25)
And they remained in their cave for three hundred years and exceeded by nine.

قُلِ
quliSay
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
أَعْلَمُ
aʿlamuknows best
بِمَا
bimāabout what (period)
لَبِثُوا۟ ۖ
labithūthey remained
لَهُۥ
lahuFor Him
غَيْبُ
ghaybu(is the) unseen
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ
wal-arḍiand the earth
أَبْصِرْ
abṣirHow clearly He sees
بِهِۦ
bihi[of it]
وَأَسْمِعْ ۚ
wa-asmiʿAnd how clearly He hears
مَا
Not
لَهُم

(26)
Say, "Allāh is most knowing of how long they remained. He has [knowledge of] the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth. How Seeing is He and how Hearing! They have not besides Him any protector, and He shares not His legislation with anyone."

wa-ut'luAnd recite

None
مُبَدِّلَ
mubaddilacan change
لِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ
likalimātihiHis Words
وَلَن
walanand never
تَجِدَ
tajidayou will find
مِن
minbesides Him
دُونِهِۦ
dūnihibesides Him
مُلْتَحَدًۭا
mul'taḥadana refuge
٢٧
(27)
And recite, [O Muḥammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book of your Lord. There is no changer of His words, and never will you find in other than Him a refuge.

وَٱصْبِرْ
wa-iṣ'birAnd be patient
نَفْسَكَ
nafsakayourself
مَعَ
maʿawith
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
يَدْعُونَ
yadʿūnacall
رَبَّهُم
rabbahumtheir Lord
بِٱلْغَدَوٰةِ
bil-ghadatiin the morning
وَٱلْعَشِىِّ
wal-ʿashiyiand the evening
يُرِيدُونَ
yurīdūnadesiring
وَجْهَهُۥ ۖ
wajhahuHis Face
وَلَا
walāAnd (let) not
تَعْدُ
taʿdupass beyond
عَيْنَاكَ
ʿaynākayour eyes
عَنْهُمْ
ʿanhumover them
تُرِيدُ
turīdudesiring
زِينَةَ
zīnataadornment
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayati(of) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ
l-dun'yā(of) the world
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تُطِعْ
tuṭiʿobey
مَنْ
manwhom
أَغْفَلْنَا
aghfalnāWe have made heedless
قَلْبَهُۥ
qalbahuhis heart
عَن
ʿanof
ذِكْرِنَا
dhik'rināOur remembrance
وَٱتَّبَعَ
wa-ittabaʿaand follows
هَوَىٰهُ
hawāhuhis desires
وَكَانَ
wakānaand is
أَمْرُهُۥ
amruhuhis affair
فُرُطًۭا
furuṭan(in) excess
٢٨
(28)
And keep yourself patient [by being] with those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening, seeking His face [i.e., acceptance]. And let not your eyes pass beyond them, desiring adornments of the worldly life, and do not obey one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance and who follows his desire and whose affair is ever [in] neglect.

وَقُلِ
waquliAnd say
ٱلْحَقُّ
l-ḥaquThe truth
مِن
min(is) from
رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ
rabbikumyour Lord
فَمَن
famanso whoever
شَآءَ
shāawills
فَلْيُؤْمِن
falyu'minlet him believe
وَمَن
wamanand whoever
شَآءَ
shāawills
فَلْيَكْفُرْ ۚ
falyakfurlet him disbelieve
إِنَّآ
innāIndeed, We
أَعْتَدْنَا
aʿtadnāhave prepared
لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
lilẓẓālimīnafor the wrongdoers
نَارًا
nārana Fire
أَحَاطَ
aḥāṭawill surround
بِهِمْ
bihimthem
سُرَادِقُهَا ۚ
surādiquhāits walls
وَإِن
wa-inAnd if
يَسْتَغِيثُوا۟
yastaghīthūthey call for relief
يُغَاثُوا۟
yughāthūthey will be relieved
بِمَآءٍۢ
bimāinwith water
كَٱلْمُهْلِ
kal-muh'lilike molten brass
يَشْوِى
yashwī(which) scalds
ٱلْوُجُوهَ ۚ
l-wujūhathe faces
بِئْسَ
bi'saWretched
ٱلشَّرَابُ
l-sharābu(is) the drink
وَسَآءَتْ
wasāatand evil
مُرْتَفَقًا
mur'tafaqan(is) the resting place
٢٩
(29)
And say, "The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills - let him believe; and whoever wills - let him disbelieve." Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a fire whose walls will surround them. And if they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like murky oil, which scalds [their] faces. Wretched is the drink, and evil is the resting place.

إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieved
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilūand did
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥātithe good deeds
إِنَّا
innāindeed, We
لَا
will not let go waste
نُضِيعُ
nuḍīʿuwill not let go waste
أَجْرَ
ajra(the) reward
مَنْ
man(of one) who
أَحْسَنَ
aḥsanadoes good
عَمَلًا
ʿamalandeeds
٣٠
(30)
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - indeed, We will not allow to be lost the reward of any who did well in deeds.

جَنَّـٰتُ
jannātu(are) Gardens
عَدْنٍۢ
ʿadninof Eden
تَجْرِى
tajrīflows

تَحْتِهِمُ
taḥtihimuunderneath them
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ
l-anhāruthe rivers
يُحَلَّوْنَ
yuḥallawnaThey will be adorned
فِيهَا
fīhātherein
مِنْ
min[of] (with)
أَسَاوِرَ
asāwirabracelets
مِن
minof
ذَهَبٍۢ
dhahabingold
وَيَلْبَسُونَ
wayalbasūnaand will wear
ثِيَابًا
thiyābangarments
خُضْرًۭا
khuḍ'rangreen
مِّن
minof
سُندُسٍۢ
sundusinfine silk
وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍۢ
wa-is'tabraqinand heavy brocade
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ
muttakiīnareclining
فِيهَا
fīhātherein
عَلَى
ʿalāon
ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ ۚ
l-arāikiadorned couches
نِعْمَ
niʿ'maExcellent
ٱلثَّوَابُ
l-thawābu(is) the reward
وَحَسُنَتْ
waḥasunatand good
مُرْتَفَقًۭا
mur'tafaqan(is) the resting place
٣١
(31)
Those will have gardens of perpetual residence; beneath them rivers will flow. They will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and will wear green garments of fine silk and brocade, reclining therein on adorned couches. Excellent is the reward, and good is the resting place.

۞ وَٱضْرِبْ
wa-iḍ'ribAnd set forth
لَهُم
lahumto them
مَّثَلًۭا
mathalanthe example
رَّجُلَيْنِ
rajulayniof two men:
جَعَلْنَا
jaʿalnāWe provided
لِأَحَدِهِمَا
li-aḥadihimāfor one of them
جَنَّتَيْنِ
jannataynitwo gardens
مِنْ
minof
أَعْنَـٰبٍۢ
aʿnābingrapes
وَحَفَفْنَـٰهُمَا
waḥafafnāhumāand We bordered them
بِنَخْلٍۢ
binakhlinwith date-palms
وَجَعَلْنَا
wajaʿalnāand We placed
بَيْنَهُمَا
baynahumābetween both of them
زَرْعًۭا
zarʿancrops
٣٢
(32)
And present to them an example of two men: We granted to one of them two gardens of grapevines, and We bordered them with palm trees and placed between them [fields of] crops.

kil'tāEach
ٱلْجَنَّتَيْنِ
l-janatayni(of) the two gardens
ءَاتَتْ
ātatbrought forth
أُكُلَهَا
ukulahāits produce
وَلَمْ
walamand not
تَظْلِم
taẓlimdid wrong
مِّنْهُ
min'huof it
شَيْـًۭٔا ۚ
shayananything
وَفَجَّرْنَا
wafajjarnāAnd We caused to gush forth
خِلَـٰلَهُمَا
khilālahumāwithin them
نَهَرًۭا
naharana river
٣٣
(33)
Each of the two gardens produced its fruit and did not fall short thereof in anything. And We caused to gush forth within them a river.

وَكَانَ
wakānaAnd was
لَهُۥ
lahufor him
ثَمَرٌۭ
thamarunfruit
فَقَالَ
faqālaso he said
لِصَـٰحِبِهِۦ
liṣāḥibihito his companion
وَهُوَ
wahuwawhile he
يُحَاوِرُهُۥٓ
yuḥāwiruhu(was) talking with him
أَنَا۠
anāI am
أَكْثَرُ
aktharugreater
مِنكَ
minkathan you
مَالًۭا
mālan(in) wealth
وَأَعَزُّ
wa-aʿazzuand stronger
نَفَرًۭا
nafaran(in) men
٣٤
(34)
And he had fruit, so he said to his companion while he was conversing with him, "I am greater than you in wealth and mightier in [numbers of] men."

وَدَخَلَ
wadakhalaAnd he entered
جَنَّتَهُۥ
jannatahuhis garden
وَهُوَ
wahuwawhile he
ظَالِمٌۭ
ẓālimun(was) unjust
لِّنَفْسِهِۦ
linafsihito himself
قَالَ
qālaHe said
مَآ
Not
أَظُنُّ
aẓunnuI think
أَن
anthat
تَبِيدَ
tabīdawill perish
هَـٰذِهِۦٓ
hādhihithis
أَبَدًۭا
abadanever
٣٥
(35)
And he entered his garden while he was unjust to himself. He said, "I do not think that this will perish - ever.

وَمَآ
wamāAnd not
أَظُنُّ
aẓunnuI think
ٱلسَّاعَةَ
l-sāʿatathe Hour
قَآئِمَةًۭ
qāimatanwill occur
وَلَئِن
wala-inAnd if
رُّدِدتُّ
rudidttuI am brought back
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
رَبِّى
rabbīmy Lord
لَأَجِدَنَّ
la-ajidannaI will surely find
خَيْرًۭا
khayranbetter
مِّنْهَا
min'hāthan this
مُنقَلَبًۭا
munqalaban(as) a return
٣٦
(36)
And I do not think the Hour will occur. And even if I should be brought back to my Lord, I will surely find better than this as a return."

قَالَ

لَهُۥ

صَاحِبُهُۥ
ṣāḥibuhuhis companion
وَهُوَ
wahuwawhile he
يُحَاوِرُهُۥٓ
yuḥāwiruhuwas talking to him
أَكَفَرْتَ
akafartaDo you disbelieve
بِٱلَّذِى
bi-alladhīin One Who
خَلَقَكَ
khalaqakacreated you
مِن
minfrom
تُرَابٍۢ
turābindust
ثُمَّ
thummathen
مِن
minfrom
نُّطْفَةٍۢ
nuṭ'fatina minute quantity of semen
ثُمَّ
thummathen
سَوَّىٰكَ
sawwākafashioned you
رَجُلًۭا
rajulan(into) a man
٣٧
(37)
His companion said to him while he was conversing with him, "Have you disbelieved in He who created you from dust and then from a sperm-drop and then proportioned you [as] a man?

لَّـٰكِنَّا۠
lākinnāBut as for me
هُوَ
huwaHe
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu(is) Allah
رَبِّى
rabbīmy Lord
وَلَآ
walāand not
أُشْرِكُ
ush'rikuI associate
بِرَبِّىٓ
birabbīwith my Lord
أَحَدًۭا
aḥadananyone
٣٨
(38)
But as for me, He is Allāh, my Lord, and I do not associate with my Lord anyone.

وَلَوْلَآ
walawlāAnd why (did you) not
إِذْ

دَخَلْتَ
dakhaltayou entered
جَنَّتَكَ
jannatakayour garden
قُلْتَ

مَا

ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
لَا
(there is) no
قُوَّةَ
quwwatapower
إِلَّا
illāexcept
بِٱللَّهِ ۚ
bil-lahiwith Allah
إِن
inIf
تَرَنِ
taraniyou see me
أَنَا۠
anā(me)
أَقَلَّ
aqallalesser
مِنكَ
minkathan you
مَالًۭا
mālan(in) wealth
وَوَلَدًۭا
wawaladanand children
٣٩
(39)
And why did you, when you entered your garden, not say, 'What Allāh willed [has occurred]; there is no power except in Allāh'? Although you see me less than you in wealth and children,

فَعَسَىٰ
faʿasāIt may be
رَبِّىٓ
rabbīthat my Lord
أَن
anthat my Lord
يُؤْتِيَنِ
yu'tiyaniwill give me
خَيْرًۭا
khayranbetter
مِّن
minthan
جَنَّتِكَ
jannatikayour garden
وَيُرْسِلَ
wayur'silaand will send
عَلَيْهَا
ʿalayhāupon it
حُسْبَانًۭا
ḥus'bānana calamity
مِّنَ
minafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāithe sky
فَتُصْبِحَ
fatuṣ'biḥathen it will become
صَعِيدًۭا
ṣaʿīdanground
زَلَقًا
zalaqanslippery
٤٠
(40)
It may be that my Lord will give me [something] better than your garden and will send upon it a [disastrous] penalty from the sky, and it will become a smooth, dusty ground,

awOr
يُصْبِحَ
yuṣ'biḥawill become
مَآؤُهَا
māuhāits water
غَوْرًۭا
ghawransunken
فَلَن
falanso never
تَسْتَطِيعَ
tastaṭīʿayou will be able
لَهُۥ
lahuto find it
طَلَبًۭا
ṭalabanto find it
٤١
(41)
Or its water will become sunken [into the earth], so you would never be able to seek it."

وَأُحِيطَ
wa-uḥīṭaAnd were surrounded
بِثَمَرِهِۦ
bithamarihihis fruits
فَأَصْبَحَ
fa-aṣbaḥaso he began
يُقَلِّبُ
yuqallibutwisting
كَفَّيْهِ
kaffayhihis hands
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāover
مَآ
what
أَنفَقَ
anfaqahe (had) spent
فِيهَا
fīhāon it
وَهِىَ
wahiyawhile it (had)
خَاوِيَةٌ
khāwiyatuncollapsed
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāon
عُرُوشِهَا
ʿurūshihāits trellises
وَيَقُولُ
wayaqūluand he said
يَـٰلَيْتَنِى
yālaytanīOh! I wish
لَمْ
lamI had not associated
أُشْرِكْ
ush'rikI had not associated
بِرَبِّىٓ
birabbīwith my Lord
أَحَدًۭا
aḥadananyone
٤٢
(42)
And his fruits were encompassed [by ruin], so he began to turn his hands about [in dismay] over what he had spent on it, while it had collapsed upon its trellises, and said, "Oh, I wish I had not associated with my Lord anyone."

لَّهُۥ

فِئَةٌۭ

يَنصُرُونَهُۥ
yanṣurūnahu(to) help him
مِن
minother than
دُونِ

ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
وَمَا
wamāand not
كَانَ
kānawas
مُنتَصِرًا
muntaṣiran(he) supported
٤٣
(43)
And there was for him no company to aid him other than Allāh, nor could he defend himself.

هُنَالِكَ
hunālikaThere
ٱلْوَلَـٰيَةُ
l-walāyatuthe protection
لِلَّهِ
lillahi(is) from Allah
ٱلْحَقِّ ۚ
l-ḥaqithe True
هُوَ
huwaHe
خَيْرٌۭ
khayrun(is the) best
ثَوَابًۭا
thawāban(to) reward
وَخَيْرٌ
wakhayrunand (the) best
عُقْبًۭا
ʿuq'ban(for) the final end
٤٤
(44)
There the authority is [completely] for Allāh, the Truth. He is best in reward and best in outcome.

وَٱضْرِبْ

ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayati(of) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا

كَمَآءٍ
kamāinlike water
أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ
anzalnāhuwhich We send down
مِنَ
minafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāithe sky
فَٱخْتَلَطَ
fa-ikh'talaṭathen mingles
بِهِۦ
bihiwith it
نَبَاتُ
nabātu(the) vegetation
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi(of) the earth
فَأَصْبَحَ
fa-aṣbaḥathen becomes
هَشِيمًۭا
hashīmandry stalks
تَذْرُوهُ
tadhrūhuit (is) scattered
ٱلرِّيَـٰحُ ۗ
l-riyāḥu(by) the winds
وَكَانَ
wakānaAnd Allah
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAnd Allah
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāover
كُلِّ
kullievery
شَىْءٍۢ
shayinthing
مُّقْتَدِرًا
muq'tadiran(is) All Able
٤٥
(45)
And present to them the example of the life of this world, [its being] like rain which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it and [then] it becomes dry remnants, scattered by the winds. And Allāh is ever, over all things, Perfect in Ability.

ٱلْمَالُ
al-māluThe wealth
وَٱلْبَنُونَ
wal-banūnaand children
زِينَةُ
zīnatu(are) adornment
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayati(of) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ
l-dun'yā(of) the world
وَٱلْبَـٰقِيَـٰتُ
wal-bāqiyātuBut the enduring
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتُ
l-ṣāliḥātugood deeds
خَيْرٌ
khayrun(are) better
عِندَ
ʿindanear
رَبِّكَ
rabbikayour Lord
ثَوَابًۭا
thawāban(for) reward
وَخَيْرٌ
wakhayrunand better
أَمَلًۭا
amalan(for) hope
٤٦
(46)
Wealth and children are [but] adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for [one's] hope.

وَيَوْمَ
wayawmaAnd the Day
نُسَيِّرُ
nusayyiruWe will cause (to) move
ٱلْجِبَالَ
l-jibālathe mountains
وَتَرَى
watarāand you will see
ٱلْأَرْضَ
l-arḍathe earth
بَارِزَةًۭ
bārizatan(as) a leveled plain
وَحَشَرْنَـٰهُمْ
waḥasharnāhumand We will gather them
فَلَمْ
falamand not
نُغَادِرْ
nughādirWe will leave behind
مِنْهُمْ
min'humfrom them
أَحَدًۭا
aḥadananyone
٤٧
(47)
And [warn of] the Day when We will remove the mountains and you will see the earth exposed, and We will gather them and not leave behind from them anyone.

وَعُرِضُوا۟
waʿuriḍūAnd they will be presented
عَلَىٰ
ʿalābefore
رَبِّكَ
rabbikayour Lord
صَفًّۭا
ṣaffan(in) rows
لَّقَدْ
laqadCertainly
جِئْتُمُونَا
ji'tumūnāyou have come to Us
كَمَا
kamāas
خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ
khalaqnākumWe created you
أَوَّلَ
awwalathe first
مَرَّةٍۭ ۚ
marratintime
بَلْ
balNay
زَعَمْتُمْ
zaʿamtumyou claimed
أَلَّن
allanthat not
نَّجْعَلَ
najʿalaWe made
لَكُم
lakumfor you
مَّوْعِدًۭا
mawʿidanan appointment
٤٨
(48)
And they will be presented before your Lord in rows, [and He will say], "You have certainly come to Us just as We created you the first time. But you claimed that We would never make for you an appointment."

وَوُضِعَ
wawuḍiʿaAnd (will) be placed
ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ
l-kitābuthe Book
فَتَرَى
fatarāand you will see
ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
l-muj'rimīnathe criminals
مُشْفِقِينَ
mush'fiqīnafearful
مِمَّا
mimmāof what
فِيهِ
fīhi(is) in it
وَيَقُولُونَ
wayaqūlūnaand they will say
يَـٰوَيْلَتَنَا
yāwaylatanāOh, woe to us
مَالِ
māliWhat (is) for
هَـٰذَا
hādhāthis
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ
l-kitābi[the] Book
لَا
not
يُغَادِرُ
yughādiruleaves
صَغِيرَةًۭ
ṣaghīratana small
وَلَا
walāand not
كَبِيرَةً
kabīratana great
إِلَّآ
illāexcept
أَحْصَىٰهَا ۚ
aḥṣāhāhas enumerated it
وَوَجَدُوا۟
wawajadūAnd they will find
مَا
what
عَمِلُوا۟
ʿamilūthey did
حَاضِرًۭا ۗ
ḥāḍiranpresented
وَلَا
walāAnd not
يَظْلِمُ
yaẓlimudeals unjustly
رَبُّكَ
rabbukayour Lord
أَحَدًۭا
aḥadan(with) anyone
٤٩
(49)
And the record [of deeds] will be placed [open], and you will see the criminals fearful of that within it, and they will say, "Oh, woe to us! What is this book that leaves nothing small or great except that it has enumerated it?" And they will find what they did present [before them]. And your Lord does injustice to no one.

وَإِذْ
wa-idhAnd when
قُلْنَا

لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ
lil'malāikatito the Angels
ٱسْجُدُوا۟
us'judūProstrate
لِـَٔادَمَ
liādamato Adam
فَسَجَدُوٓا۟
fasajadūso they prostrated
إِلَّآ
illāexcept
إِبْلِيسَ
ib'līsaIblis
كَانَ
kāna(He) was
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْجِنِّ
l-jinithe jinn
فَفَسَقَ
fafasaqaand he rebelled
عَنْ
ʿanagainst
أَمْرِ
amrithe Command
رَبِّهِۦٓ ۗ
rabbihi(of) his Lord
أَفَتَتَّخِذُونَهُۥ
afatattakhidhūnahuWill you then take him
وَذُرِّيَّتَهُۥٓ
wadhurriyyatahuand his offspring
أَوْلِيَآءَ
awliyāa(as) protectors
مِن
minother than Me
دُونِى
dūnīother than Me
وَهُمْ
wahumwhile they
لَكُمْ
lakum(are) to you
عَدُوٌّۢ ۚ
ʿaduwwunenemies
بِئْسَ
bi'saWretched
لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
lilẓẓālimīnafor the wrongdoers
بَدَلًۭا
badalan(is) the exchange
٥٠
(50)
And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was of the jinn and departed from [i.e., disobeyed] the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange.

أَشْهَدتُّهُمْ
ashhadttuhumI made them witness
خَلْقَ
khalqathe creation
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍiand the earth
وَلَا
walāand not
خَلْقَ
khalqathe creation
أَنفُسِهِمْ
anfusihim(of) themselves
وَمَا
wamāand not
كُنتُ
kuntuI Am
مُتَّخِذَ
muttakhidhathe One to take
ٱلْمُضِلِّينَ
l-muḍilīnathe misleaders
عَضُدًۭا
ʿaḍudan(as) helper(s)

(51)
I did not make them witness to the creation of the heavens and the earth or to the creation of themselves, and I would not have taken the misguiders as assistants.

wayawmaAnd the Day
يَقُولُ

نَادُوا۟

شُرَكَآءِىَ

ٱلَّذِينَ

zaʿamtumyou claimed
فَدَعَوْهُمْ
fadaʿawhumthen they will call them
فَلَمْ
falambut not
يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟
yastajībūthey will respond
لَهُمْ
lahumto them
وَجَعَلْنَا
wajaʿalnāAnd We will make
بَيْنَهُم
baynahumbetween them
مَّوْبِقًۭا
mawbiqana barrier

(52)
And [warn of] the Day when He will say, "Call My 'partners' whom you claimed," and they will invoke them, but they will not respond to them. And We will put between them [a valley of] destruction.

waraāAnd will see
ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ
l-muj'rimūnathe criminals
ٱلنَّارَ
l-nārathe Fire
فَظَنُّوٓا۟
faẓannūand they (will be) certain
أَنَّهُم

مُّوَاقِعُوهَا
muwāqiʿūhāare to fall in it
وَلَمْ
walamAnd not
يَجِدُوا۟
yajidūthey will find
عَنْهَا
ʿanhāfrom it
مَصْرِفًۭا
maṣrifana way of escape

(53)
And the criminals will see the Fire and will be certain that they are to fall therein. And they will not find from it a way elsewhere.

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ

أَكْثَرَ
akthara(in) most
شَىْءٍۢ
shayinthings
جَدَلًۭا
jadalanquarrelsome

(54)
And We have certainly diversified in this Qur’ān for the people from every [kind of] example; but man has ever been, most of anything, [prone to] dispute.

ٱلنَّاسَ

يُؤْمِنُوٓا۟

ٱلْهُدَىٰ
l-hudāthe guidance
وَيَسْتَغْفِرُوا۟
wayastaghfirūand they ask forgiveness
رَبَّهُمْ
rabbahum(of) their Lord
إِلَّآ
illāexcept
أَن
anthat
تَأْتِيَهُمْ
tatiyahumcomes to them
سُنَّةُ
sunnatu(the) way
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
l-awalīna(of) the former (people)
أَوْ
awor
يَأْتِيَهُمُ
yatiyahumucomes to them
ٱلْعَذَابُ
l-ʿadhābuthe punishment
قُبُلًۭا
qubulanbefore (them)
٥٥
(55)
And nothing has prevented the people from believing when guidance came to them and from asking forgiveness of their Lord except that there [must] befall them the [accustomed] precedent of the former peoples or that the punishment should come [directly] before them.

ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
l-mur'salīnathe Messengers
إِلَّا
illāexcept
مُبَشِّرِينَ
mubashirīna(as) bearers of glad tidings
وَمُنذِرِينَ ۚ
wamundhirīnaand (as) warners
وَيُجَـٰدِلُ
wayujādiluAnd dispute
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ
bil-bāṭiliwith falsehood
لِيُدْحِضُوا۟
liyud'ḥiḍūto refute
بِهِ
bihithereby
ٱلْحَقَّ ۖ
l-ḥaqathe truth
وَٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟
wa-ittakhadhūAnd they take
ءَايَـٰتِى
āyātīMy Verses
وَمَآ
wamāand what
أُنذِرُوا۟
undhirūthey are warned
هُزُوًۭا
huzuwan(in) ridicule
٥٦
(56)
And We send not the messengers except as bringers of good tidings and warners. And those who disbelieve dispute by [using] falsehood to [attempt to] invalidate thereby the truth and have taken My verses, and that of which they are warned, in ridicule.

أَظْلَمُ
aẓlamu(is) more wrong
مِمَّن
mimmanthan (he) who
ذُكِّرَ
dhukkirais reminded
بِـَٔايَـٰتِ
biāyātiof the Verses
رَبِّهِۦ
rabbihi(of) his Lord
فَأَعْرَضَ
fa-aʿraḍabut turns away
عَنْهَا
ʿanhāfrom them
وَنَسِىَ
wanasiyaand forgets
مَا
what
قَدَّمَتْ
qaddamathave sent forth
يَدَاهُ ۚ
yadāhuhis hands
إِنَّا
innāIndeed, We
جَعَلْنَا
jaʿalnā[We] have placed
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāover
قُلُوبِهِمْ
qulūbihimtheir hearts
أَكِنَّةً
akinnatancoverings
أَن
anlest
يَفْقَهُوهُ
yafqahūhuthey understand it
وَفِىٓ
wafīand in
ءَاذَانِهِمْ
ādhānihimtheir ears
وَقْرًۭا ۖ
waqran(is) deafness
وَإِن
wa-inAnd if
تَدْعُهُمْ
tadʿuhumyou call them
إِلَى
ilāto
ٱلْهُدَىٰ
l-hudāthe guidance
فَلَن
falanthen never
يَهْتَدُوٓا۟
yahtadūthey will be guided
إِذًا
idhanthen
أَبَدًۭا
abadanever
٥٧
(57)
And who is more unjust than one who is reminded of the verses of his Lord but turns away from them and forgets what his hands have put forth? Indeed, We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And if you invite them to guidance - they will never be guided, then - ever.

warabbukaAnd your Lord
ٱلْغَفُورُ
l-ghafūru(is) the Most Forgiving
ذُو
dhūOwner
ٱلرَّحْمَةِ ۖ
l-raḥmati(of) the Mercy
لَوْ
lawIf
يُؤَاخِذُهُم
yuākhidhuhumHe were to seize them
بِمَا
bimāfor what
كَسَبُوا۟
kasabūthey have earned
لَعَجَّلَ
laʿajjalasurely, He (would) have hastened
لَهُمُ
lahumufor them
ٱلْعَذَابَ ۚ
l-ʿadhābathe punishment
بَل
balBut
لَّهُم
lahumfor them
مَّوْعِدٌۭ
mawʿidun(is) an appointment
لَّن
lannever
يَجِدُوا۟
yajidūthey will find
مِن
minother than it
دُونِهِۦ
dūnihiother than it
مَوْئِلًۭا
mawilanan escape
٥٨
(58)
And your Lord is the Forgiving, the possessor of mercy. If He were to impose blame upon them for what they earned, He would have hastened for them the punishment. Rather, for them is an appointment from which they will never find an escape.

وَتِلْكَ
watil'kaAnd these
ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ
l-qurā[the] towns
أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ
ahlaknāhumWe destroyed them
لَمَّا
lammāwhen
ظَلَمُوا۟
ẓalamūthey wronged
وَجَعَلْنَا
wajaʿalnāand We made
لِمَهْلِكِهِم
limahlikihimfor their destruction
مَّوْعِدًۭا
mawʿidanan appointed time

(59)
And those cities - We destroyed them when they wronged, and We made for their destruction an appointed time.

Not
أَبْرَحُ

أَبْلُغَ
ablughaI reach
مَجْمَعَ
majmaʿathe junction
ٱلْبَحْرَيْنِ
l-baḥrayni(of) the two seas
أَوْ
awor
أَمْضِىَ
amḍiyaI continue
حُقُبًۭا
ḥuquban(for) a long period
٦٠
(60)
And [mention] when Moses said to his boy [i.e., servant], "I will not cease [traveling] until I reach the junction of the two seas or continue for a long period."

balaghāthey reached
مَجْمَعَ
majmaʿathe junction
بَيْنِهِمَا

نَسِيَا

فَٱتَّخَذَ
fa-ittakhadhaand it took
سَبِيلَهُۥ
sabīlahuits way
فِى
into
ٱلْبَحْرِ
l-baḥrithe sea
سَرَبًۭا
sarabanslipping away

(61)
But when they reached the junction between them, they forgot their fish, and it took its course into the sea, slipping away.

جَاوَزَا
jāwazāthey had passed beyond
قَالَ

لِفَتَىٰهُ
lifatāhuto his boy
ءَاتِنَا

لَقَدْ
laqadCertainly
لَقِينَا
laqīnāwe have suffered
مِن
minin
سَفَرِنَا
safarināour journey
هَـٰذَا
hādhāthis
نَصَبًۭا
naṣabanfatigue

(62)
So when they had passed beyond it, [Moses] said to his boy, "Bring us our morning meal. We have certainly suffered in this, our journey, [much] fatigue."

أَوَيْنَآ

ٱلصَّخْرَةِ

فَإِنِّى
fa-innīThen indeed, I
نَسِيتُ
nasītu[I] forgot
ٱلْحُوتَ
l-ḥūtathe fish
وَمَآ
wamāAnd not
أَنسَىٰنِيهُ
ansānīhumade me forget it
إِلَّا
illāexcept
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ
l-shayṭānuthe Shaitaan
أَنْ
anthat
أَذْكُرَهُۥ ۚ
adhkurahuI mention it
وَٱتَّخَذَ
wa-ittakhadhaAnd it took
سَبِيلَهُۥ
sabīlahuits way
فِى
into
ٱلْبَحْرِ
l-baḥrithe sea
عَجَبًۭا
ʿajabanamazingly
٦٣
(63)
He said, "Did you see when we retired to the rock? Indeed, I forgot [there] the fish. And none made me forget it except Satan - that I should mention it. And it took its course into the sea amazingly."

فَٱرْتَدَّا

ءَاثَارِهِمَا
āthārihimātheir footprints
قَصَصًۭا
qaṣaṣanretracing

[Moses] said, "That is what we were seeking." So they returned, following their footprints.

fawajadāThen they found
عَبْدًۭا
ʿabdana servant
مِّنْ
minfrom
عِبَادِنَآ
ʿibādināOur servants
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ
ātaynāhuwhom We had given
رَحْمَةًۭ
raḥmatanmercy
مِّنْ
minfrom
عِندِنَا
ʿindināUs
وَعَلَّمْنَـٰهُ
waʿallamnāhuand We had taught him
مِن
minfrom
لَّدُنَّا
ladunnāUs
عِلْمًۭا
ʿil'mana knowledge
٦٥
(65)
And they found a servant from among Our servants [i.e., al-Khiḍr] to whom We had given mercy from Us and had taught him from Us a [certain] knowledge.

أَتَّبِعُكَ

عَلَىٰٓ

مِمَّا
mimmāof what
عُلِّمْتَ
ʿullim'tayou have been taught
رُشْدًۭا
rush'dan(of) right guidance
٦٦
(66)
Moses said to him, "May I follow you on [the condition] that you teach me from what you have been taught of sound judgement?"

تَسْتَطِيعَ

He said, "Indeed, with me you will never be able to have patience.

تَصْبِرُ

عَلَىٰ

خُبْرًۭا
khub'ranany knowledge

And how can you have patience for what you do not encompass in knowledge?"

aʿṣīI will disobey
لَكَ

أَمْرًۭا

[Moses] said, "You will find me, if Allāh wills, patient, and I will not disobey you in [any] order."

أُحْدِثَ

لَكَ

مِنْهُ

ذِكْرًۭا

He said, "Then if you follow me, do not ask me about anything until I make to you about it mention [i.e., explanation]."

حَتَّىٰٓ

رَكِبَا
rakibāthey had embarked

ٱلسَّفِينَةِ

خَرَقَهَا ۖ
kharaqahāhe made a hole in it
قَالَ
qālaHe said
أَخَرَقْتَهَا
akharaqtahāHave you made a hole in it
لِتُغْرِقَ
litugh'riqato drown
أَهْلَهَا
ahlahāits people
لَقَدْ
laqadCertainly
جِئْتَ
ji'tayou have done
شَيْـًٔا
shayana thing
إِمْرًۭا
im'rangrave
٧١
(71)
So they set out, until when they had embarked on the ship, he [i.e., al-Khiḍr] tore it open. [Moses] said, "Have you torn it open to drown its people? You have certainly done a grave thing."

[Moses] said, "Do not blame me for what I forgot and do not overwhelm me in my matter with difficulty."

faqatalahuthen he killed him
قَالَ

زَكِيَّةًۢ

بِغَيْرِ
bighayrifor other than
نَفْسٍۢ
nafsina soul
لَّقَدْ
laqadCertainly
جِئْتَ
ji'tayou have done
شَيْـًۭٔا
shayana thing
نُّكْرًۭا
nuk'ranevil

(74)
So they set out, until when they met a boy, he [i.e., al-Khiḍr] killed him. [Moses] said, "Have you killed a pure soul for other than [having killed] a soul? You have certainly done a deplorable thing."

ʿudh'ranan excuse

[Moses] said, "If I should ask you about anything after this, then do not keep me as a companion. You have obtained from me an excuse."

أَتَيَآ

ٱسْتَطْعَمَآ
is'taṭʿamāthey asked for food
أَهْلَهَا
ahlahā(from) its people
فَأَبَوْا۟
fa-abawbut they refused
أَن
anto
يُضَيِّفُوهُمَا
yuḍayyifūhumāoffer them hospitality
فَوَجَدَا
fawajadāThen they found
فِيهَا
fīhāin it
جِدَارًۭا
jidārana wall
يُرِيدُ
yurīdu(that) want(ed)
أَن
anto
يَنقَضَّ
yanqaḍḍacollapse
فَأَقَامَهُۥ ۖ
fa-aqāmahuso he set it straight
قَالَ
qālaHe said
لَوْ
lawIf
شِئْتَ
shi'tayou wished
لَتَّخَذْتَ
lattakhadhtasurely you (could) have taken
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhifor it
أَجْرًۭا
ajrana payment
٧٧
(77)
So they set out, until when they came to the people of a town, they asked its people for food, but they refused to offer them hospitality. And they found therein a wall about to collapse, so he [i.e., al-Khiḍr] restored it. [Moses] said, "If you wished, you could have taken for it a payment."

وَبَيْنِكَ ۚ

بِتَأْوِيلِ
bitawīliof (the) interpretation
مَا
(of) what
لَمْ

تَسْتَطِع
tastaṭiʿyou were able
عَّلَيْهِ
ʿalayhion it
صَبْرًا
ṣabran(to have) patience
٧٨
(78)
[Al-Khiḍr] said, "This is parting between me and you. I will inform you of the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience.

لِمَسَـٰكِينَ

ٱلْبَحْرِ
l-baḥrithe sea
فَأَرَدتُّ
fa-aradttuSo I intended
أَنْ
anthat
أَعِيبَهَا
aʿībahāI cause defect (in) it
وَكَانَ
wakāna(as there) was
وَرَآءَهُم
warāahumafter them
مَّلِكٌۭ
malikuna king
يَأْخُذُ
yakhudhuwho seized
كُلَّ
kullaevery
سَفِينَةٍ
safīnatinship
غَصْبًۭا
ghaṣban(by) force
٧٩
(79)
As for the ship, it belonged to poor people working at sea. So I intended to cause defect in it as there was after them a king who seized every [good] ship by force.

wa-ammāAnd as for
ٱلْغُلَـٰمُ
l-ghulāmuthe boy
فَكَانَ
fakānahis parents were
أَبَوَاهُ
abawāhuhis parents were
مُؤْمِنَيْنِ
mu'minaynibelievers
فَخَشِينَآ
fakhashīnāand we feared
أَن
anthat
يُرْهِقَهُمَا
yur'hiqahumāhe would overburden them
طُغْيَـٰنًۭا
ṭugh'yānan(by) transgression
وَكُفْرًۭا
wakuf'ranand disbelief
٨٠
(80)
And as for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared that he would overburden them by transgression and disbelief.

فَأَرَدْنَآ
fa-aradnāSo we intended
أَن

يُبْدِلَهُمَا
yub'dilahumāwould change for them
رَبُّهُمَا
rabbuhumātheir Lord
خَيْرًۭا

مِّنْهُ
min'huthan him
زَكَوٰةًۭ
zakatan(in) purity
وَأَقْرَبَ
wa-aqrabaand nearer
رُحْمًۭا
ruḥ'man(in) affection

So we intended that their Lord should substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy.

وَأَمَّا
wa-ammāAnd as for
ٱلْجِدَارُ
l-jidāruthe wall
فَكَانَ
fakānait was
لِغُلَـٰمَيْنِ
lighulāmaynifor two orphan boys
يَتِيمَيْنِ
yatīmaynifor two orphan boys
فِى
in
ٱلْمَدِينَةِ
l-madīnatithe town
وَكَانَ
wakānaand was
تَحْتَهُۥ
taḥtahuunderneath it
كَنزٌۭ
kanzuna treasure
لَّهُمَا
lahumāfor them
وَكَانَ
wakānaand was
أَبُوهُمَا
abūhumātheir father
صَـٰلِحًۭا
ṣāliḥanrighteous
فَأَرَادَ
fa-arādaSo intended
رَبُّكَ
rabbukayour Lord
أَن
anthat
يَبْلُغَآ
yablughāthey reach
أَشُدَّهُمَا
ashuddahumātheir maturity
وَيَسْتَخْرِجَا
wayastakhrijāand bring forth
كَنزَهُمَا
kanzahumātheir treasure
رَحْمَةًۭ
raḥmatan(as) a mercy
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّكَ ۚ
rabbikayour Lord
وَمَا
wamāAnd not
فَعَلْتُهُۥ
faʿaltuhuI did it
عَنْ
ʿanon
أَمْرِى ۚ
amrīmy (own) accord
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
تَأْوِيلُ
tawīlu(is the) interpretation
مَا
(of) what
لَمْ
lamnot
تَسْطِع
tasṭiʿyou were able
عَّلَيْهِ
ʿalayhion it
صَبْرًۭا
ṣabran(to have) patience
٨٢
(82)
And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure for them, and their father had been righteous. So your Lord intended that they reach maturity and extract their treasure, as a mercy from your Lord. And I did it not of my own accord. That is the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience."

وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَ
wayasalūnakaAnd they ask you
عَن
ʿanabout
ذِى
dhīDhul-qarnain
ٱلْقَرْنَيْنِ ۖ
l-qarnayniDhul-qarnain
قُلْ
qulSay
سَأَتْلُوا۟
sa-atlūI will recite
عَلَيْكُم
ʿalaykumto you
مِّنْهُ
min'huabout him
ذِكْرًا
dhik'rana remembrance
٨٣
(83)
And they ask you, [O Muḥammad], about Dhul-Qarnayn. Say, "I will recite to you about him a report."

مَكَّنَّا
makkannā[We] established
لَهُۥ

فِى

ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ

كُلِّ
kullievery
شَىْءٍۢ
shayinthing
سَبَبًۭا
sababana means

(84)
Indeed, We established him upon the earth, and We gave him from everything a way [i.e., means].

مَغْرِبَ
maghriba(the) setting place
ٱلشَّمْسِ
l-shamsi(of) the sun
وَجَدَهَا
wajadahāhe found it
تَغْرُبُ
taghrubusetting
فِى
in
عَيْنٍ
ʿaynina spring
حَمِئَةٍۢ
ḥami-atin(of) dark mud
وَوَجَدَ
wawajadaand he found
عِندَهَا
ʿindahānear it
قَوْمًۭا ۗ
qawmana community
قُلْنَا
qul'nāWe said
يَـٰذَا
yādhāO Dhul-qarnain
ٱلْقَرْنَيْنِ
l-qarnayniO Dhul-qarnain
إِمَّآ
immāEither
أَن
an[that]
تُعَذِّبَ
tuʿadhibayou punish
وَإِمَّآ
wa-immāor
أَن
an[that]
تَتَّخِذَ
tattakhidhayou take
فِيهِمْ
fīhim[in] them
حُسْنًۭا
ḥus'nan(with) goodness
٨٦
(86)
Until, when he reached the setting of the sun [i.e., the west], he found it [as if] setting in a body of dark water, and he found near it a people. We [i.e., Allāh] said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, either you punish [them] or else adopt among them [a way of] goodness."

qālaHe said
أَمَّا
ammāAs for
مَن
man(one) who
ظَلَمَ
ẓalamawrongs
فَسَوْفَ
fasawfathen soon
نُعَذِّبُهُۥ
nuʿadhibuhuwe will punish him
ثُمَّ
thummaThen
يُرَدُّ
yuradduhe will be returned
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
رَبِّهِۦ
rabbihihis Lord
فَيُعَذِّبُهُۥ
fayuʿadhibuhuand He will punish him
عَذَابًۭا
ʿadhāban(with) a punishment
نُّكْرًۭا
nuk'ranterrible
٨٧
(87)
He said, "As for one who wrongs, we will punish him. Then he will be returned to his Lord, and He will punish him with a terrible punishment [i.e., Hellfire].

وَأَمَّا
wa-ammāBut as for
مَنْ
man(one) who
ءَامَنَ
āmanabelieves
وَعَمِلَ
waʿamilaand does
صَـٰلِحًۭا
ṣāliḥanrighteous (deeds)
فَلَهُۥ
falahuthen for him
جَزَآءً
jazāan(is) a reward
ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۖ
l-ḥus'nāgood
وَسَنَقُولُ
wasanaqūluAnd we will speak
لَهُۥ
lahuto him
مِنْ
minfrom
أَمْرِنَا
amrināour command
يُسْرًۭا
yus'ran(with) ease
٨٨
(88)
But as for one who believes and does righteousness, he will have a reward of the best [i.e., Paradise], and we [i.e., Dhul-Qarnayn] will speak to him from our command with ease."

قَوْمٍۢ
qawmina community
لَّمْ
lamnot
نَجْعَل
najʿalWe made
لَّهُم
lahumfor them
مِّن
minagainst it
دُونِهَا
dūnihāagainst it
سِتْرًۭا
sit'ranany shelter
٩٠
(90)
Until, when he came to the rising of the sun [i.e., the east], he found it rising on a people for whom We had not made against it any shield.

kadhālikaThus
وَقَدْ
waqadAnd verily
أَحَطْنَا
aḥaṭnāWe encompassed
بِمَا
bimāof what
لَدَيْهِ
ladayhi(was) with him
خُبْرًۭا
khub'ran(of the) information

(91)
Thus. And We had encompassed [all] that he had in knowledge.

minbesides them
دُونِهِمَا

لَّا

يَكَادُونَ
yakādūnawho would almost
يَفْقَهُونَ
yafqahūnaunderstand
قَوْلًۭا
qawlan(his) speech
٩٣
(93)
Until, when he reached [a pass] between two mountains, he found beside them a people who could hardly understand [his] speech.

يَـٰذَا
yādhāO Dhul-qarnain
ٱلْقَرْنَيْنِ
l-qarnayniO Dhul-qarnain
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
يَأْجُوجَ
yajūjaYajuj
وَمَأْجُوجَ
wamajūjaand Majuj
مُفْسِدُونَ
muf'sidūna(are) corrupters
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe land
فَهَلْ
fahalSo may
نَجْعَلُ
najʿaluwe make
لَكَ
lakafor you
خَرْجًا
kharjanan expenditure
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā[on]
أَن
anthat
تَجْعَلَ
tajʿalayou make
بَيْنَنَا
baynanābetween us
وَبَيْنَهُمْ
wabaynahumand between them
سَدًّۭا
saddana barrier
٩٤
(94)
They said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are [great] corrupters in the land. So may we assign for you an expenditure that you might make between us and them a barrier?"

مَكَّنِّى
makkannīhas established me
فِيهِ
fīhi[in it]
رَبِّى
rabbīmy Lord
خَيْرٌۭ
khayrun(is) better
فَأَعِينُونِى
fa-aʿīnūnībut assist me
بِقُوَّةٍ
biquwwatinwith strength
أَجْعَلْ
ajʿalI will make
بَيْنَكُمْ
baynakumbetween you
وَبَيْنَهُمْ
wabaynahumand between them
رَدْمًا
radmana barrier
٩٥
(95)
He said, "That in which my Lord has established me is better [than what you offer], but assist me with strength [i.e., manpower]; I will make between you and them a dam.

ءَاتُونِى
ātūnīBring me
زُبَرَ
zubarasheets
ٱلْحَدِيدِ ۖ
l-ḥadīdi(of) iron
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattāuntil
إِذَا
idhāwhen
سَاوَىٰ
sāwāhe (had) leveled
بَيْنَ
baynabetween
ٱلصَّدَفَيْنِ
l-ṣadafaynithe two cliffs
قَالَ
qālahe said
ٱنفُخُوا۟ ۖ
unfukhūBlow
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattāuntil
إِذَا
idhāwhen
جَعَلَهُۥ
jaʿalahuhe made it
نَارًۭا
nāranfire
قَالَ
qālahe said
ءَاتُونِىٓ
ātūnīBring me
أُفْرِغْ
uf'righI pour
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhiover it
قِطْرًۭا
qiṭ'ranmolten copper
٩٦
(96)
Bring me bars of iron" - until, when he had leveled [them] between the two mountain walls, he said, "Blow [with bellows]," until when he had made it [like] fire, he said, "Bring me, that I may pour over it molten copper."

فَمَا
famāSo not
ٱسْطَـٰعُوٓا۟
is'ṭāʿūthey were able
أَن
anto
يَظْهَرُوهُ
yaẓharūhuscale it
وَمَا
wamāand not
ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟
is'taṭāʿūthey were able
لَهُۥ
lahuin it
نَقْبًۭا
naqban(to do) any penetration
٩٧
(97)
So they [i.e., Gog and Magog] were unable to pass over it, nor were they able [to effect] in it any penetration.

qālaHe said
هَـٰذَا
hādhāThis
رَحْمَةٌۭ
raḥmatun(is) a mercy
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّى ۖ
rabbīmy Lord
فَإِذَا
fa-idhāBut when
جَآءَ
jāacomes
وَعْدُ
waʿdu(the) Promise
رَبِّى
rabbī(of) my Lord
جَعَلَهُۥ
jaʿalahuHe will make it
دَكَّآءَ ۖ
dakkāalevel
وَكَانَ
wakānaAnd is
وَعْدُ
waʿdu(the) Promise
رَبِّى
rabbī(of) my Lord
حَقًّۭا
ḥaqqantrue
٩٨
(98)
[Dhul-Qarnayn] said, "This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord comes [i.e., approaches], He will make it level, and ever is the promise of my Lord true."

۞ وَتَرَكْنَا
wataraknāAnd We (will) leave
بَعْضَهُمْ
baʿḍahumsome of them
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ
yawma-idhin(on) that Day
يَمُوجُ
yamūjuto surge
فِى
over
بَعْضٍۢ ۖ
baʿḍinothers
وَنُفِخَ
wanufikhaand (will be) blown
فِى
in
ٱلصُّورِ
l-ṣūrithe trumpet
فَجَمَعْنَـٰهُمْ
fajamaʿnāhumthen We (will) gather them
جَمْعًۭا
jamʿanall together
٩٩
(99)
And We will leave them that day surging over each other, and [then] the Horn will be blown, and We will assemble them in [one] assembly.

وَعَرَضْنَا
waʿaraḍnāAnd We (will) present
جَهَنَّمَ
jahannamaHell
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ
yawma-idhin(on) that Day
لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
lil'kāfirīnato the disbelievers
عَرْضًا
ʿarḍan(on) display

(100)
And We will present Hell that Day to the disbelievers, on display -

ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnaThose
كَانَتْ
kānathad been
أَعْيُنُهُمْ
aʿyunuhumtheir eyes
فِى
within
غِطَآءٍ
ghiṭāina cover
عَن
ʿanfrom
ذِكْرِى
dhik'rīMy remembrance
وَكَانُوا۟
wakānūand were
لَا
not
يَسْتَطِيعُونَ
yastaṭīʿūnaable
سَمْعًا
samʿan(to) hear
١٠١
(101)
Those whose eyes had been within a cover [removed] from My remembrance, and they were not able to hear.

أَفَحَسِبَ
afaḥasibaDo then think
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوٓا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
أَن
anthat
يَتَّخِذُوا۟
yattakhidhūthey (can) take
عِبَادِى
ʿibādīMy servants
مِن
minbesides Me
دُونِىٓ
dūnībesides Me
أَوْلِيَآءَ ۚ
awliyāa(as) protectors
إِنَّآ
innāIndeed, We
أَعْتَدْنَا
aʿtadnāWe have prepared
جَهَنَّمَ
jahannamaHell
لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
lil'kāfirīnafor the disbelievers
نُزُلًۭا
nuzulan(as) a lodging
١٠٢
(102)
Then do those who disbelieve think that they can take My servants instead of Me as allies? Indeed, We have prepared Hell for the disbelievers as a lodging.

qulSay
هَلْ
halShall
نُنَبِّئُكُم
nunabbi-ukumWe inform you
بِٱلْأَخْسَرِينَ
bil-akhsarīnaof the greatest losers
أَعْمَـٰلًا
aʿmālan(as to their) deeds
١٠٣
(103)
Say, [O Muḥammad], "Shall we [believers] inform you of the greatest losers as to [their] deeds?

ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnaThose
ضَلَّ
ḍallais lost
سَعْيُهُمْ
saʿyuhumtheir effort
فِى
in
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayatithe life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā(of) the world
وَهُمْ
wahumwhile they
يَحْسَبُونَ
yaḥsabūnathink
أَنَّهُمْ
annahumthat they
يُحْسِنُونَ
yuḥ'sinūna(were) acquiring good
صُنْعًا
ṣun'ʿan(in) work
١٠٤
(104)
[They are] those whose effort is lost in worldly life, while they think that they are doing well in work."

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāikaThose
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna(are) the ones who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
بِـَٔايَـٰتِ
biāyātiin the Verses
رَبِّهِمْ
rabbihim(of) their Lord
وَلِقَآئِهِۦ
waliqāihiand the meeting (with) Him
فَحَبِطَتْ
faḥabiṭatSo (are) vain
أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ
aʿmāluhumtheir deeds
فَلَا
falāso not
نُقِيمُ
nuqīmuWe will assign
لَهُمْ
lahumfor them
يَوْمَ
yawma(on) the Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
وَزْنًۭا
waznanany weight
١٠٥
(105)
Those are the ones who disbelieve in the verses of their Lord and in [their] meeting Him, so their deeds have become worthless; and We will not assign to them on the Day of Resurrection any weight [i.e., importance].

ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
جَزَآؤُهُمْ
jazāuhum(is) their recompense
جَهَنَّمُ
jahannamuHell
بِمَا
bimābecause
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūthey disbelieved
وَٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟
wa-ittakhadhūand took
ءَايَـٰتِى
āyātīMy Verses
وَرُسُلِى
warusulīand My Messengers
هُزُوًا
huzuwan(in) ridicule
١٠٦
(106)
That is their recompense - Hell - for what they denied and [because] they took My signs and My messengers in ridicule.

إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieved
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilūand did
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
كَانَتْ
kānatfor them will be
لَهُمْ
lahumfor them will be
جَنَّـٰتُ
jannātuGardens
ٱلْفِرْدَوْسِ
l-fir'dawsi(of) the Paradise
نُزُلًا
nuzulan(as) a lodging
١٠٧
(107)
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - they will have the Gardens of Paradise as a lodging,

khālidīnaAbiding forever
فِيهَا
fīhāin it
لَا
Not
يَبْغُونَ
yabghūnathey will desire
عَنْهَا
ʿanhāfrom it
حِوَلًۭا
ḥiwalanany transfer
١٠٨
(108)
Wherein they abide eternally. They will not desire from it any transfer.

ٱلْبَحْرُ
l-baḥruthe sea
مِدَادًۭا

لِّكَلِمَـٰتِ
likalimātifor (the) Words
رَبِّى
rabbī(of) my Lord
لَنَفِدَ
lanafidasurely (would be) exhausted
ٱلْبَحْرُ
l-baḥruthe sea
قَبْلَ
qablabefore
أَن
an[that]
تَنفَدَ
tanfada(were) exhausted
كَلِمَـٰتُ
kalimātu(the) Words
رَبِّى
rabbī(of) my Lord
وَلَوْ
walaweven if
جِئْنَا
ji'nāWe brought
بِمِثْلِهِۦ
bimith'lihi(the) like (of) it
مَدَدًۭا
madadan(as) a supplement
١٠٩
(109)
Say, "If the sea were ink for [writing] the words of my Lord, the sea would be exhausted before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even if We brought the like of it in [continual] supplement."

أَنَا۠

بَشَرٌۭ
basharun(am) a man
مِّثْلُكُمْ
mith'lukumlike you
يُوحَىٰٓ
yūḥāHas been revealed
إِلَىَّ
ilayyato me
أَنَّمَآ
annamāthat
إِلَـٰهُكُمْ
ilāhukumyour God
إِلَـٰهٌۭ
ilāhun(is) God
وَٰحِدٌۭ ۖ
wāḥidunOne
فَمَن
famanSo whoever
كَانَ
kānais
يَرْجُوا۟
yarjūhoping
لِقَآءَ
liqāa(for the) meeting
رَبِّهِۦ
rabbihi(with) his Lord
فَلْيَعْمَلْ
falyaʿmallet him do
عَمَلًۭا
ʿamalandeeds
صَـٰلِحًۭا
ṣāliḥanrighteous
وَلَا
walāand not
يُشْرِكْ
yush'rikassociate
بِعِبَادَةِ
biʿibādatiin (the) worship
رَبِّهِۦٓ
rabbihi(of) his Lord
أَحَدًۢا
aḥadananyone
١١٠
(110)
Say, "I am only a man like you, to whom has been revealed that your god is one God. So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord - let him do righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone."
