ٱلْحَمْدُal-ḥamduAll Praise
لِلَّهِlillahi(is) for Allah
ٱلَّذِىٓalladhīthe One Who
أَنزَلَanzala(has) revealed
عَلَىٰʿalāto
عَبْدِهِʿabdihiHis slave
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
وَلَمْwalamand not
يَجْعَلyajʿal(has) made
لَّهُۥlahuin it
عِوَجَاۜʿiwajāany crookedness
١(1)
[All] praise is [due] to Allāh, who has sent down upon His Servant [Muḥammad (ﷺ)] the Book and has not made therein any deviance.
Juz 15Page 293
قَيِّمًۭاqayyimanStraight
لِّيُنذِرَliyundhirato warn
بَأْسًۭاbasan(of) a punishment
شَدِيدًۭاshadīdansevere
مِّنminfrom
لَّدُنْهُladun'hunear Him
وَيُبَشِّرَwayubashiraand give glad tidings
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīna(to) the believers
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnado
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
أَنَّannathat
لَهُمْlahumfor them
أَجْرًاajran(is) a good reward
حَسَنًۭاḥasanan(is) a good reward
٢(2)
[He has made it] straight, to warn of severe punishment from Him and to give good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a good reward [i.e., Paradise]

مَّـٰكِثِينَmākithīna(They will) abide
فِيهِfīhiin it
أَبَدًۭاabadanforever
٣(3)
In which they will remain forever
Juz 15Page 293
وَيُنذِرَwayundhiraAnd to warn
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
قَالُوا۟qālūsay
ٱتَّخَذَittakhadhaAllah has taken
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah has taken
وَلَدًۭاwaladana son
٤(4)
And to warn those who say, "Allāh has taken a son."

مَّاmāNot
لَهُمlahumthey have
بِهِۦbihiabout it
مِنْminany
عِلْمٍۢʿil'minknowledge
وَلَاwalāand not
لِـَٔابَآئِهِمْ ۚliābāihimtheir forefathers
كَبُرَتْkaburatMighty (is)
كَلِمَةًۭkalimatanthe word
تَخْرُجُtakhruju(that) comes out
مِنْminof
أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ ۚafwāhihimtheir mouths
إِنinNot
يَقُولُونَyaqūlūnathey say
إِلَّاillāexcept
كَذِبًۭاkadhibana lie
٥(5)
They have no knowledge of it, nor had their fathers. Grave is the word that comes out of their mouths; they speak not except a lie.

فَلَعَلَّكَfalaʿallakaThen perhaps you would (be)
بَـٰخِعٌۭbākhiʿunthe one who kills
نَّفْسَكَnafsakayourself
عَلَىٰٓʿalāover
ءَاثَـٰرِهِمْāthārihimtheir footsteps
إِنinif
لَّمْlamnot
يُؤْمِنُوا۟yu'minūthey believe
بِهَـٰذَاbihādhāin this
ٱلْحَدِيثِl-ḥadīthi[the] narration
أَسَفًاasafan(in) grief
٦(6)
Then perhaps you would kill yourself through grief over them, [O Muḥammad], if they do not believe in this message, [and] out of sorrow.

إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
جَعَلْنَاjaʿalnāWe have made
مَاmāwhat
عَلَىʿalā(is) on
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
زِينَةًۭzīnatanadornment
لَّهَاlahāfor it
لِنَبْلُوَهُمْlinabluwahumthat We may test [them]
أَيُّهُمْayyuhumwhich of them
أَحْسَنُaḥsanu(is) best
عَمَلًۭاʿamalan(in) deed
٧(7)
Indeed, We have made that which is on the earth adornment for it that We may test them [as to] which of them is best in deed.

وَإِنَّاwa-innāAnd indeed, We
لَجَـٰعِلُونَlajāʿilūna(will) surely make
مَاmāwhat
عَلَيْهَاʿalayhā(is) on it
صَعِيدًۭاṣaʿīdansoil
جُرُزًاjuruzanbarren
٨(8)
And indeed, We will make that which is upon it [into] a barren ground.

أَمْamOr
حَسِبْتَḥasib'tahave you thought
أَنَّannathat
أَصْحَـٰبَaṣḥāba(the) companions
ٱلْكَهْفِl-kahfi(of) the cave
وَٱلرَّقِيمِwal-raqīmiand the inscription
كَانُوا۟kānūwere
مِنْminamong
ءَايَـٰتِنَاāyātināOur Signs
عَجَبًاʿajabana wonder
٩(9)
Or have you thought that the companions of the cave and the inscription were, among Our signs, a wonder?

إِذْidhWhen
أَوَىawāretreated
ٱلْفِتْيَةُl-fit'yatuthe youths
إِلَىilāto
ٱلْكَهْفِl-kahfithe cave
فَقَالُوا۟faqālūand they said
رَبَّنَآrabbanāOur Lord
ءَاتِنَاātināGrant us
مِنminfrom
لَّدُنكَladunkaYourself
رَحْمَةًۭraḥmatanMercy
وَهَيِّئْwahayyiand facilitate
لَنَاlanāfor us
مِنْmin[from]
أَمْرِنَاamrināour affair
رَشَدًۭاrashadan(in the) right way
١٠(10)
[Mention] when the youths retreated to the cave and said, "Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance."

فَضَرَبْنَاfaḍarabnāSo We cast
عَلَىٰٓʿalāover
ءَاذَانِهِمْādhānihimtheir ears
فِىfīin
ٱلْكَهْفِl-kahfithe cave
سِنِينَsinīnayears
عَدَدًۭاʿadadana number
١١(11)
So We cast [a cover of sleep] over their ears within the cave for a number of years.

ثُمَّthummaThen
بَعَثْنَـٰهُمْbaʿathnāhumWe raised them up
لِنَعْلَمَlinaʿlamathat We make evident
أَىُّayyuwhich
ٱلْحِزْبَيْنِl-ḥiz'bayni(of) the two parties
أَحْصَىٰaḥṣābest calculated
لِمَاlimāfor what
لَبِثُوٓا۟labithū(they had) remained
أَمَدًۭاamadan(in) time
١٢(12)
Then We awakened them that We might show which of the two factions was most precise in calculating what [extent] they had remained in time.

نَّحْنُnaḥnuWe
نَقُصُّnaquṣṣunarrate
عَلَيْكَʿalaykato you
نَبَأَهُمnaba-ahumtheir story
بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚbil-ḥaqiin truth
إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, they (were)
فِتْيَةٌfit'yatunyouths
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūwho believed
بِرَبِّهِمْbirabbihimin their Lord
وَزِدْنَـٰهُمْwazid'nāhumand We increased them
هُدًۭىhudan(in) guidance
١٣(13)
It is We who relate to you, [O Muḥammad], their story in truth. Indeed, they were youths who believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance.

وَرَبَطْنَاwarabaṭnāAnd We made firm
عَلَىٰʿalā[on]
قُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihimtheir hearts
إِذْidhwhen
قَامُوا۟qāmūthey stood up
فَقَالُوا۟faqālūand said
رَبُّنَاrabbunāOur Lord
رَبُّrabbu(is) the Lord
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth
لَنlanNever
نَّدْعُوَا۟nadʿuwāwe will invoke
مِنminbesides Him
دُونِهِۦٓdūnihibesides Him
إِلَـٰهًۭا ۖilāhanany god
لَّقَدْlaqadCertainly
قُلْنَآqul'nāwe would have said
إِذًۭاidhanthen
شَطَطًاshaṭaṭanan enormity
١٤(14)
And We bound [i.e., made firm] their hearts when they stood up and said, "Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. Never will we invoke besides Him any deity. We would have certainly spoken, then, an excessive transgression.

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāiThese
قَوْمُنَاqawmunāour people
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ittakhadhūhave taken
مِنminbesides Him
دُونِهِۦٓdūnihibesides Him
ءَالِهَةًۭ ۖālihatangods
لَّوْلَاlawlāWhy not
يَأْتُونَyatūnathey come
عَلَيْهِمʿalayhimto them
بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۭbisul'ṭāninwith an authority
بَيِّنٍۢ ۖbayyininclear
فَمَنْfamanAnd who
أَظْلَمُaẓlamu(is) more wrong
مِمَّنِmimmanithan (one) who
ٱفْتَرَىٰif'tarāinvents
عَلَىʿalāagainst
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
كَذِبًۭاkadhibana lie
١٥(15)
These, our people, have taken besides Him deities. Why do they not bring for [worship of] them a clear evidence? And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allāh a lie?"

وَإِذِwa-idhiAnd when
ٱعْتَزَلْتُمُوهُمْiʿ'tazaltumūhumyou withdraw from them
وَمَاwamāand what
يَعْبُدُونَyaʿbudūnathey worship
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
فَأْوُۥٓا۟fawūthen retreat
إِلَىilāto
ٱلْكَهْفِl-kahfithe cave
يَنشُرْyanshurWill spread
لَكُمْlakumfor you
رَبُّكُمrabbukumyour Lord
مِّنminof
رَّحْمَتِهِۦraḥmatihiHis Mercy
وَيُهَيِّئْwayuhayyiand will facilitate
لَكُمlakumfor you
مِّنْmin[from]
أَمْرِكُمamrikumyour affair
مِّرْفَقًۭاmir'faqan(in) ease
١٦(16)
[The youths said to one another], "And when you have withdrawn from them and that which they worship other than Allāh, retreat to the cave. Your Lord will spread out for you of His mercy and will prepare for you from your affair facility."

۞ وَتَرَىwatarāAnd you (might) have seen
ٱلشَّمْسَl-shamsathe sun
إِذَاidhāwhen
طَلَعَتṭalaʿatit rose
تَّزَٰوَرُtazāwaruinclining away
عَنʿanfrom
كَهْفِهِمْkahfihimtheir cave
ذَاتَdhātato
ٱلْيَمِينِl-yamīnithe right
وَإِذَاwa-idhāand when
غَرَبَتgharabatit set
تَّقْرِضُهُمْtaqriḍuhumpassing away from them
ذَاتَdhātato
ٱلشِّمَالِl-shimālithe left
وَهُمْwahumwhile they
فِىfī(lay) in
فَجْوَةٍۢfajwatinthe open space
مِّنْهُ ۚmin'huthereof
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
مِنْmin(was) from
ءَايَـٰتِāyāti(the) Signs
ٱللَّهِ ۗl-lahi(of) Allah
مَنmanWhoever
يَهْدِyahdiAllah guides
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah guides
فَهُوَfahuwaand he
ٱلْمُهْتَدِ ۖl-muh'tadi(is) the guided one
وَمَنwamanand whoever
يُضْلِلْyuḍ'lilHe lets go astray
فَلَنfalanthen never
تَجِدَtajidayou will find
لَهُۥlahufor him
وَلِيًّۭاwaliyyana protector
مُّرْشِدًۭاmur'shidana guide
١٧(17)
And [had you been present], you would see the sun when it rose, inclining away from their cave on the right, and when it set, passing away from them on the left, while they were [lying] within an open space thereof. That was from the signs of Allāh. He whom Allāh guides is the [rightly] guided, but he whom He sends astray - never will you find for him a protecting guide.

وَتَحْسَبُهُمْwataḥsabuhumAnd you (would) think them
أَيْقَاظًۭاayqāẓanawake
وَهُمْwahumwhile they
رُقُودٌۭ ۚruqūdun(were) asleep
وَنُقَلِّبُهُمْwanuqallibuhumAnd We turned them
ذَاتَdhātato
ٱلْيَمِينِl-yamīnithe right
وَذَاتَwadhātaand to
ٱلشِّمَالِ ۖl-shimālithe left
وَكَلْبُهُمwakalbuhumwhile their dog
بَـٰسِطٌۭbāsiṭunstretched
ذِرَاعَيْهِdhirāʿayhihis two forelegs
بِٱلْوَصِيدِ ۚbil-waṣīdiat the entrance
لَوِlawiIf
ٱطَّلَعْتَiṭṭalaʿtayou had looked
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimat them
لَوَلَّيْتَlawallaytayou (would) have surely turned back
مِنْهُمْmin'humfrom them
فِرَارًۭاfirāran(in) flight
وَلَمُلِئْتَwalamuli'taand surely you would have been filled
مِنْهُمْmin'humby them
رُعْبًۭاruʿ'ban(with) terror
١٨(18)
And you would think them awake, while they were asleep. And We turned them to the right and to the left, while their dog stretched his forelegs at the entrance. If you had looked at them, you would have turned from them in flight and been filled by them with terror.

وَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhālikaAnd similarly
بَعَثْنَـٰهُمْbaʿathnāhumWe raised them
لِيَتَسَآءَلُوا۟liyatasāalūthat they might question
بَيْنَهُمْ ۚbaynahumamong them
قَالَqālaSaid
قَآئِلٌۭqāiluna speaker
مِّنْهُمْmin'humamong them
كَمْkamHow long
لَبِثْتُمْ ۖlabith'tumhave you remained
قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
لَبِثْنَاlabith'nāWe have remained
يَوْمًاyawmana day
أَوْawor
بَعْضَbaʿḍaa part
يَوْمٍۢ ۚyawmin(of) a day
قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
رَبُّكُمْrabbukumYour Lord
أَعْلَمُaʿlamuknows best
بِمَاbimāhow long
لَبِثْتُمْlabith'tumyou have remained
فَٱبْعَثُوٓا۟fa-ib'ʿathūSo send
أَحَدَكُمaḥadakumone of you
بِوَرِقِكُمْbiwariqikumwith this silver coin of yours
هَـٰذِهِۦٓhādhihiwith this silver coin of yours
إِلَىilāto
ٱلْمَدِينَةِl-madīnatithe city
فَلْيَنظُرْfalyanẓurand let him see
أَيُّهَآayyuhāwhich is
أَزْكَىٰazkāthe purest
طَعَامًۭاṭaʿāmanfood
فَلْيَأْتِكُمfalyatikumand let him bring to you
بِرِزْقٍۢbiriz'qinprovision
مِّنْهُmin'hufrom it
وَلْيَتَلَطَّفْwalyatalaṭṭafand let him be cautious
وَلَاwalāAnd let not be aware
يُشْعِرَنَّyush'ʿirannaAnd let not be aware
بِكُمْbikumabout you
أَحَدًاaḥadananyone
١٩(19)
And similarly, We awakened them that they might question one another. Said a speaker from among them, "How long have you remained [here]?" They said, "We have remained a day or part of a day." They said, "Your Lord is most knowing of how long you remained. So send one of you with this silver coin of yours to the city and let him look to which is the best of food and bring you provision from it and let him be cautious. And let no one be aware of you.

إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, [they]
إِنinif
يَظْهَرُوا۟yaẓharūthey come to know
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumabout you
يَرْجُمُوكُمْyarjumūkumthey will stone you
أَوْawor
يُعِيدُوكُمْyuʿīdūkumreturn you
فِىfīto
مِلَّتِهِمْmillatihimtheir religion
وَلَنwalanAnd never
تُفْلِحُوٓا۟tuf'liḥūwill you succeed
إِذًاidhanthen
أَبَدًۭاabadanever
٢٠(20)
Indeed, if they come to know of you, they will stone you or return you to their religion. And never would you succeed, then - ever."
Juz 15Page 295
وَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhālikaAnd similarly
أَعْثَرْنَاaʿtharnāWe made known
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimabout them
لِيَعْلَمُوٓا۟liyaʿlamūthat they might know
أَنَّannathat
وَعْدَwaʿda(the) Promise
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
حَقٌّۭḥaqqun(is) true
وَأَنَّwa-annaand that
ٱلسَّاعَةَl-sāʿata(about) the Hour
لَاlā(there is) no
رَيْبَraybadoubt
فِيهَآfīhāin it
إِذْidhWhen
يَتَنَـٰزَعُونَyatanāzaʿūnathey disputed
بَيْنَهُمْbaynahumamong themselves
أَمْرَهُمْ ۖamrahumabout their affair
فَقَالُوا۟faqālūand they said
ٱبْنُوا۟ib'nūConstruct
عَلَيْهِمʿalayhimover them
بُنْيَـٰنًۭا ۖbun'yānana structure
رَّبُّهُمْrabbuhumTheir Lord
أَعْلَمُaʿlamuknows best
بِهِمْ ۚbihimabout them
قَالَqālaSaid
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
غَلَبُوا۟ghalabūprevailed
عَلَىٰٓʿalāin
أَمْرِهِمْamrihimtheir matter
لَنَتَّخِذَنَّlanattakhidhannaSurely we will take
عَلَيْهِمʿalayhimover them
مَّسْجِدًۭاmasjidana place of worship
٢١(21)
And similarly, We caused them to be found that they [who found them] would know that the promise of Allāh is truth and that of the Hour there is no doubt. [That was] when they disputed among themselves about their affair and [then] said, "Construct over them a structure. Their Lord is most knowing about them." Said those who prevailed in the matter, "We will surely take [for ourselves] over them a masjid."

سَيَقُولُونَsayaqūlūnaThey say
ثَلَـٰثَةٌۭthalāthatun(they were) three
رَّابِعُهُمْrābiʿuhumthe forth of them
كَلْبُهُمْkalbuhumtheir dog
وَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaand they say
خَمْسَةٌۭkhamsatun(they were) five
سَادِسُهُمْsādisuhumthe sixth of them
كَلْبُهُمْkalbuhumtheir dog
رَجْمًۢاrajmanguessing
بِٱلْغَيْبِ ۖbil-ghaybiabout the unseen
وَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaand they say
سَبْعَةٌۭsabʿatun(they were) seven
وَثَامِنُهُمْwathāminuhumand the eight of them
كَلْبُهُمْ ۚkalbuhumtheir dog
قُلqulSay
رَّبِّىٓrabbīMy Lord
أَعْلَمُaʿlamuknows best
بِعِدَّتِهِمbiʿiddatihimtheir number
مَّاmāNone
يَعْلَمُهُمْyaʿlamuhumknows them
إِلَّاillāexcept
قَلِيلٌۭ ۗqalīluna few
فَلَاfalāSo (do) not
تُمَارِtumāriargue
فِيهِمْfīhimabout them
إِلَّاillāexcept
مِرَآءًۭmirāan(with) an argument
ظَـٰهِرًۭاẓāhiranobvious
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تَسْتَفْتِtastaftiinquire
فِيهِمfīhimabout them
مِّنْهُمْmin'humamong them
أَحَدًۭاaḥadan(from) anyone
٢٢(22)
They [i.e., people] will say there were three, the fourth of them being their dog; and they will say there were five, the sixth of them being their dog - guessing at the unseen; and they will say there were seven, and the eighth of them was their dog. Say, [O Muḥammad], "My Lord is most knowing of their number. None knows them except a few. So do not argue about them except with an obvious argument and do not inquire about them among [the speculators] from anyone."

وَلَاwalāAnd (do) not
تَقُولَنَّtaqūlannasay
لِشَا۟ىْءٍlishāy'inof anything
إِنِّىinnīIndeed, I
فَاعِلٌۭfāʿilunwill do
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
غَدًاghadantomorrow
٢٣(23)
And never say of anything, "Indeed, I will do that tomorrow,"
Juz 15Page 296
إِلَّآillāExcept
أَنanIf
يَشَآءَyashāaAllah wills
ٱللَّهُ ۚl-lahuAllah wills
وَٱذْكُرwa-udh'kurAnd remember
رَّبَّكَrabbakayour Lord
إِذَاidhāwhen
نَسِيتَnasītayou forget
وَقُلْwaquland say
عَسَىٰٓʿasāPerhaps
أَنan[that]
يَهْدِيَنِyahdiyaniwill guide me
رَبِّىrabbīmy Lord
لِأَقْرَبَli-aqrabato a nearer (way)
مِنْminthan
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
رَشَدًۭاrashadanright way
٢٤(24)
Except [when adding], "If Allāh wills." And remember your Lord when you forget [it] and say, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to what is nearer than this to right conduct."

وَلَبِثُوا۟walabithūAnd they remained
فِىfīin
كَهْفِهِمْkahfihimtheir cave
ثَلَـٰثَthalātha(for) three
مِا۟ئَةٍۢmi-atinhundred
سِنِينَsinīnayears
وَٱزْدَادُوا۟wa-iz'dādūand add
تِسْعًۭاtis'ʿannine
٢٥(25)
And they remained in their cave for three hundred years and exceeded by nine.

قُلِquliSay
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
أَعْلَمُaʿlamuknows best
بِمَاbimāabout what (period)
لَبِثُوا۟ ۖlabithūthey remained
لَهُۥlahuFor Him
غَيْبُghaybu(is the) unseen
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖwal-arḍiand the earth
أَبْصِرْabṣirHow clearly He sees
بِهِۦbihi[of it]
وَأَسْمِعْ ۚwa-asmiʿAnd how clearly He hears
مَاmāNot
لَهُمlahumfor them
مِّنminbesides Him
دُونِهِۦdūnihibesides Him
مِنminany
وَلِىٍّۢwaliyyinprotector
وَلَاwalāand not
يُشْرِكُyush'rikuHe shares
فِىfī[in]
حُكْمِهِۦٓḥuk'mihiHis Commands
أَحَدًۭاaḥadan(with) anyone
٢٦(26)
Say, "Allāh is most knowing of how long they remained. He has [knowledge of] the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth. How Seeing is He and how Hearing! They have not besides Him any protector, and He shares not His legislation with anyone."

وَٱتْلُwa-ut'luAnd recite
مَآmāwhat
أُوحِىَūḥiyahas been revealed
إِلَيْكَilaykato you
مِنminof
كِتَابِkitābithe Book
رَبِّكَ ۖrabbika(of) your Lord
لَاlāNone
مُبَدِّلَmubaddilacan change
لِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦlikalimātihiHis Words
وَلَنwalanand never
تَجِدَtajidayou will find
مِنminbesides Him
دُونِهِۦdūnihibesides Him
مُلْتَحَدًۭاmul'taḥadana refuge
٢٧(27)
And recite, [O Muḥammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book of your Lord. There is no changer of His words, and never will you find in other than Him a refuge.

وَٱصْبِرْwa-iṣ'birAnd be patient
نَفْسَكَnafsakayourself
مَعَmaʿawith
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
يَدْعُونَyadʿūnacall
رَبَّهُمrabbahumtheir Lord
بِٱلْغَدَوٰةِbil-ghadatiin the morning
وَٱلْعَشِىِّwal-ʿashiyiand the evening
يُرِيدُونَyurīdūnadesiring
وَجْهَهُۥ ۖwajhahuHis Face
وَلَاwalāAnd (let) not
تَعْدُtaʿdupass beyond
عَيْنَاكَʿaynākayour eyes
عَنْهُمْʿanhumover them
تُرِيدُturīdudesiring
زِينَةَzīnataadornment
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِl-ḥayati(of) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖl-dun'yā(of) the world
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تُطِعْtuṭiʿobey
مَنْmanwhom
أَغْفَلْنَاaghfalnāWe have made heedless
قَلْبَهُۥqalbahuhis heart
عَنʿanof
ذِكْرِنَاdhik'rināOur remembrance
وَٱتَّبَعَwa-ittabaʿaand follows
هَوَىٰهُhawāhuhis desires
وَكَانَwakānaand is
أَمْرُهُۥamruhuhis affair
فُرُطًۭاfuruṭan(in) excess
٢٨(28)
And keep yourself patient [by being] with those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening, seeking His face [i.e., acceptance]. And let not your eyes pass beyond them, desiring adornments of the worldly life, and do not obey one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance and who follows his desire and whose affair is ever [in] neglect.

وَقُلِwaquliAnd say
ٱلْحَقُّl-ḥaquThe truth
مِنmin(is) from
رَّبِّكُمْ ۖrabbikumyour Lord
فَمَنfamanso whoever
شَآءَshāawills
فَلْيُؤْمِنfalyu'minlet him believe
وَمَنwamanand whoever
شَآءَshāawills
فَلْيَكْفُرْ ۚfalyakfurlet him disbelieve
إِنَّآinnāIndeed, We
أَعْتَدْنَاaʿtadnāhave prepared
لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَlilẓẓālimīnafor the wrongdoers
نَارًاnārana Fire
أَحَاطَaḥāṭawill surround
بِهِمْbihimthem
سُرَادِقُهَا ۚsurādiquhāits walls
وَإِنwa-inAnd if
يَسْتَغِيثُوا۟yastaghīthūthey call for relief
يُغَاثُوا۟yughāthūthey will be relieved
بِمَآءٍۢbimāinwith water
كَٱلْمُهْلِkal-muh'lilike molten brass
يَشْوِىyashwī(which) scalds
ٱلْوُجُوهَ ۚl-wujūhathe faces
بِئْسَbi'saWretched
ٱلشَّرَابُl-sharābu(is) the drink
وَسَآءَتْwasāatand evil
مُرْتَفَقًاmur'tafaqan(is) the resting place
٢٩(29)
And say, "The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills - let him believe; and whoever wills - let him disbelieve." Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a fire whose walls will surround them. And if they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like murky oil, which scalds [their] faces. Wretched is the drink, and evil is the resting place.

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieved
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand did
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātithe good deeds
إِنَّاinnāindeed, We
لَاlāwill not let go waste
نُضِيعُnuḍīʿuwill not let go waste
أَجْرَajra(the) reward
مَنْman(of one) who
أَحْسَنَaḥsanadoes good
عَمَلًاʿamalandeeds
٣٠(30)
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - indeed, We will not allow to be lost the reward of any who did well in deeds.

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose
لَهُمْlahumfor them
جَنَّـٰتُjannātu(are) Gardens
عَدْنٍۢʿadninof Eden
تَجْرِىtajrīflows
مِنminfrom
تَحْتِهِمُtaḥtihimuunderneath them
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُl-anhāruthe rivers
يُحَلَّوْنَyuḥallawnaThey will be adorned
فِيهَاfīhātherein
مِنْmin[of] (with)
أَسَاوِرَasāwirabracelets
مِنminof
ذَهَبٍۢdhahabingold
وَيَلْبَسُونَwayalbasūnaand will wear
ثِيَابًاthiyābangarments
خُضْرًۭاkhuḍ'rangreen
مِّنminof
سُندُسٍۢsundusinfine silk
وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍۢwa-is'tabraqinand heavy brocade
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَmuttakiīnareclining
فِيهَاfīhātherein
عَلَىʿalāon
ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ ۚl-arāikiadorned couches
نِعْمَniʿ'maExcellent
ٱلثَّوَابُl-thawābu(is) the reward
وَحَسُنَتْwaḥasunatand good
مُرْتَفَقًۭاmur'tafaqan(is) the resting place
٣١(31)
Those will have gardens of perpetual residence; beneath them rivers will flow. They will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and will wear green garments of fine silk and brocade, reclining therein on adorned couches. Excellent is the reward, and good is the resting place.

۞ وَٱضْرِبْwa-iḍ'ribAnd set forth
لَهُمlahumto them
مَّثَلًۭاmathalanthe example
رَّجُلَيْنِrajulayniof two men:
جَعَلْنَاjaʿalnāWe provided
لِأَحَدِهِمَاli-aḥadihimāfor one of them
جَنَّتَيْنِjannataynitwo gardens
مِنْminof
أَعْنَـٰبٍۢaʿnābingrapes
وَحَفَفْنَـٰهُمَاwaḥafafnāhumāand We bordered them
بِنَخْلٍۢbinakhlinwith date-palms
وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāand We placed
بَيْنَهُمَاbaynahumābetween both of them
زَرْعًۭاzarʿancrops
٣٢(32)
And present to them an example of two men: We granted to one of them two gardens of grapevines, and We bordered them with palm trees and placed between them [fields of] crops.

كِلْتَاkil'tāEach
ٱلْجَنَّتَيْنِl-janatayni(of) the two gardens
ءَاتَتْātatbrought forth
أُكُلَهَاukulahāits produce
وَلَمْwalamand not
تَظْلِمtaẓlimdid wrong
مِّنْهُmin'huof it
شَيْـًۭٔا ۚshayananything
وَفَجَّرْنَاwafajjarnāAnd We caused to gush forth
خِلَـٰلَهُمَاkhilālahumāwithin them
نَهَرًۭاnaharana river
٣٣(33)
Each of the two gardens produced its fruit and did not fall short thereof in anything. And We caused to gush forth within them a river.

وَكَانَwakānaAnd was
لَهُۥlahufor him
ثَمَرٌۭthamarunfruit
فَقَالَfaqālaso he said
لِصَـٰحِبِهِۦliṣāḥibihito his companion
وَهُوَwahuwawhile he
يُحَاوِرُهُۥٓyuḥāwiruhu(was) talking with him
أَنَا۠anāI am
أَكْثَرُaktharugreater
مِنكَminkathan you
مَالًۭاmālan(in) wealth
وَأَعَزُّwa-aʿazzuand stronger
نَفَرًۭاnafaran(in) men
٣٤(34)
And he had fruit, so he said to his companion while he was conversing with him, "I am greater than you in wealth and mightier in [numbers of] men."

وَدَخَلَwadakhalaAnd he entered
جَنَّتَهُۥjannatahuhis garden
وَهُوَwahuwawhile he
ظَالِمٌۭẓālimun(was) unjust
لِّنَفْسِهِۦlinafsihito himself
قَالَqālaHe said
مَآmāNot
أَظُنُّaẓunnuI think
أَنanthat
تَبِيدَtabīdawill perish
هَـٰذِهِۦٓhādhihithis
أَبَدًۭاabadanever
٣٥(35)
And he entered his garden while he was unjust to himself. He said, "I do not think that this will perish - ever.
Juz 15Page 298
وَمَآwamāAnd not
أَظُنُّaẓunnuI think
ٱلسَّاعَةَl-sāʿatathe Hour
قَآئِمَةًۭqāimatanwill occur
وَلَئِنwala-inAnd if
رُّدِدتُّrudidttuI am brought back
إِلَىٰilāto
رَبِّىrabbīmy Lord
لَأَجِدَنَّla-ajidannaI will surely find
خَيْرًۭاkhayranbetter
مِّنْهَاmin'hāthan this
مُنقَلَبًۭاmunqalaban(as) a return
٣٦(36)
And I do not think the Hour will occur. And even if I should be brought back to my Lord, I will surely find better than this as a return."
Juz 15Page 298
قَالَqālaSaid
لَهُۥlahuto him
صَاحِبُهُۥṣāḥibuhuhis companion
وَهُوَwahuwawhile he
يُحَاوِرُهُۥٓyuḥāwiruhuwas talking to him
أَكَفَرْتَakafartaDo you disbelieve
بِٱلَّذِىbi-alladhīin One Who
خَلَقَكَkhalaqakacreated you
مِنminfrom
تُرَابٍۢturābindust
ثُمَّthummathen
مِنminfrom
نُّطْفَةٍۢnuṭ'fatina minute quantity of semen
ثُمَّthummathen
سَوَّىٰكَsawwākafashioned you
رَجُلًۭاrajulan(into) a man
٣٧(37)
His companion said to him while he was conversing with him, "Have you disbelieved in He who created you from dust and then from a sperm-drop and then proportioned you [as] a man?

لَّـٰكِنَّا۠lākinnāBut as for me
هُوَhuwaHe
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(is) Allah
رَبِّىrabbīmy Lord
وَلَآwalāand not
أُشْرِكُush'rikuI associate
بِرَبِّىٓbirabbīwith my Lord
أَحَدًۭاaḥadananyone
٣٨(38)
But as for me, He is Allāh, my Lord, and I do not associate with my Lord anyone.

وَلَوْلَآwalawlāAnd why (did you) not
إِذْidhwhen
دَخَلْتَdakhaltayou entered
جَنَّتَكَjannatakayour garden
قُلْتَqul'tasay
مَاmāWhat
شَآءَshāawills
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
لَاlā(there is) no
قُوَّةَquwwatapower
إِلَّاillāexcept
بِٱللَّهِ ۚbil-lahiwith Allah
إِنinIf
تَرَنِtaraniyou see me
أَنَا۠anā(me)
أَقَلَّaqallalesser
مِنكَminkathan you
مَالًۭاmālan(in) wealth
وَوَلَدًۭاwawaladanand children
٣٩(39)
And why did you, when you entered your garden, not say, 'What Allāh willed [has occurred]; there is no power except in Allāh'? Although you see me less than you in wealth and children,

فَعَسَىٰfaʿasāIt may be
رَبِّىٓrabbīthat my Lord
أَنanthat my Lord
يُؤْتِيَنِyu'tiyaniwill give me
خَيْرًۭاkhayranbetter
مِّنminthan
جَنَّتِكَjannatikayour garden
وَيُرْسِلَwayur'silaand will send
عَلَيْهَاʿalayhāupon it
حُسْبَانًۭاḥus'bānana calamity
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky
فَتُصْبِحَfatuṣ'biḥathen it will become
صَعِيدًۭاṣaʿīdanground
زَلَقًاzalaqanslippery
٤٠(40)
It may be that my Lord will give me [something] better than your garden and will send upon it a [disastrous] penalty from the sky, and it will become a smooth, dusty ground,

أَوْawOr
يُصْبِحَyuṣ'biḥawill become
مَآؤُهَاmāuhāits water
غَوْرًۭاghawransunken
فَلَنfalanso never
تَسْتَطِيعَtastaṭīʿayou will be able
لَهُۥlahuto find it
طَلَبًۭاṭalabanto find it
٤١(41)
Or its water will become sunken [into the earth], so you would never be able to seek it."
Juz 15Page 298
وَأُحِيطَwa-uḥīṭaAnd were surrounded
بِثَمَرِهِۦbithamarihihis fruits
فَأَصْبَحَfa-aṣbaḥaso he began
يُقَلِّبُyuqallibutwisting
كَفَّيْهِkaffayhihis hands
عَلَىٰʿalāover
مَآmāwhat
أَنفَقَanfaqahe (had) spent
فِيهَاfīhāon it
وَهِىَwahiyawhile it (had)
خَاوِيَةٌkhāwiyatuncollapsed
عَلَىٰʿalāon
عُرُوشِهَاʿurūshihāits trellises
وَيَقُولُwayaqūluand he said
يَـٰلَيْتَنِىyālaytanīOh! I wish
لَمْlamI had not associated
أُشْرِكْush'rikI had not associated
بِرَبِّىٓbirabbīwith my Lord
أَحَدًۭاaḥadananyone
٤٢(42)
And his fruits were encompassed [by ruin], so he began to turn his hands about [in dismay] over what he had spent on it, while it had collapsed upon its trellises, and said, "Oh, I wish I had not associated with my Lord anyone."

وَلَمْwalamAnd not
تَكُنtakunwas
لَّهُۥlahufor him
فِئَةٌۭfi-atuna group
يَنصُرُونَهُۥyanṣurūnahu(to) help him
مِنminother than
دُونِdūniother than
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
وَمَاwamāand not
كَانَkānawas
مُنتَصِرًاmuntaṣiran(he) supported
٤٣(43)
And there was for him no company to aid him other than Allāh, nor could he defend himself.

هُنَالِكَhunālikaThere
ٱلْوَلَـٰيَةُl-walāyatuthe protection
لِلَّهِlillahi(is) from Allah
ٱلْحَقِّ ۚl-ḥaqithe True
هُوَhuwaHe
خَيْرٌۭkhayrun(is the) best
ثَوَابًۭاthawāban(to) reward
وَخَيْرٌwakhayrunand (the) best
عُقْبًۭاʿuq'ban(for) the final end
٤٤(44)
There the authority is [completely] for Allāh, the Truth. He is best in reward and best in outcome.

وَٱضْرِبْwa-iḍ'ribAnd present
لَهُمlahumto them
مَّثَلَmathalathe example
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِl-ḥayati(of) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the world
كَمَآءٍkamāinlike water
أَنزَلْنَـٰهُanzalnāhuwhich We send down
مِنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky
فَٱخْتَلَطَfa-ikh'talaṭathen mingles
بِهِۦbihiwith it
نَبَاتُnabātu(the) vegetation
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍi(of) the earth
فَأَصْبَحَfa-aṣbaḥathen becomes
هَشِيمًۭاhashīmandry stalks
تَذْرُوهُtadhrūhuit (is) scattered
ٱلرِّيَـٰحُ ۗl-riyāḥu(by) the winds
وَكَانَwakānaAnd Allah
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAnd Allah
عَلَىٰʿalāover
كُلِّkullievery
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
مُّقْتَدِرًاmuq'tadiran(is) All Able
٤٥(45)
And present to them the example of the life of this world, [its being] like rain which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it and [then] it becomes dry remnants, scattered by the winds. And Allāh is ever, over all things, Perfect in Ability.

ٱلْمَالُal-māluThe wealth
وَٱلْبَنُونَwal-banūnaand children
زِينَةُzīnatu(are) adornment
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِl-ḥayati(of) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖl-dun'yā(of) the world
وَٱلْبَـٰقِيَـٰتُwal-bāqiyātuBut the enduring
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتُl-ṣāliḥātugood deeds
خَيْرٌkhayrun(are) better
عِندَʿindanear
رَبِّكَrabbikayour Lord
ثَوَابًۭاthawāban(for) reward
وَخَيْرٌwakhayrunand better
أَمَلًۭاamalan(for) hope
٤٦(46)
Wealth and children are [but] adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for [one's] hope.
Juz 15Page 299
وَيَوْمَwayawmaAnd the Day
نُسَيِّرُnusayyiruWe will cause (to) move
ٱلْجِبَالَl-jibālathe mountains
وَتَرَىwatarāand you will see
ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earth
بَارِزَةًۭbārizatan(as) a leveled plain
وَحَشَرْنَـٰهُمْwaḥasharnāhumand We will gather them
فَلَمْfalamand not
نُغَادِرْnughādirWe will leave behind
مِنْهُمْmin'humfrom them
أَحَدًۭاaḥadananyone
٤٧(47)
And [warn of] the Day when We will remove the mountains and you will see the earth exposed, and We will gather them and not leave behind from them anyone.
Juz 15Page 299
وَعُرِضُوا۟waʿuriḍūAnd they will be presented
عَلَىٰʿalābefore
رَبِّكَrabbikayour Lord
صَفًّۭاṣaffan(in) rows
لَّقَدْlaqadCertainly
جِئْتُمُونَاji'tumūnāyou have come to Us
كَمَاkamāas
خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْkhalaqnākumWe created you
أَوَّلَawwalathe first
مَرَّةٍۭ ۚmarratintime
بَلْbalNay
زَعَمْتُمْzaʿamtumyou claimed
أَلَّنallanthat not
نَّجْعَلَnajʿalaWe made
لَكُمlakumfor you
مَّوْعِدًۭاmawʿidanan appointment
٤٨(48)
And they will be presented before your Lord in rows, [and He will say], "You have certainly come to Us just as We created you the first time. But you claimed that We would never make for you an appointment."

وَوُضِعَwawuḍiʿaAnd (will) be placed
ٱلْكِتَـٰبُl-kitābuthe Book
فَتَرَىfatarāand you will see
ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَl-muj'rimīnathe criminals
مُشْفِقِينَmush'fiqīnafearful
مِمَّاmimmāof what
فِيهِfīhi(is) in it
وَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaand they will say
يَـٰوَيْلَتَنَاyāwaylatanāOh, woe to us
مَالِmāliWhat (is) for
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi[the] Book
لَاlānot
يُغَادِرُyughādiruleaves
صَغِيرَةًۭṣaghīratana small
وَلَاwalāand not
كَبِيرَةًkabīratana great
إِلَّآillāexcept
أَحْصَىٰهَا ۚaḥṣāhāhas enumerated it
وَوَجَدُوا۟wawajadūAnd they will find
مَاmāwhat
عَمِلُوا۟ʿamilūthey did
حَاضِرًۭا ۗḥāḍiranpresented
وَلَاwalāAnd not
يَظْلِمُyaẓlimudeals unjustly
رَبُّكَrabbukayour Lord
أَحَدًۭاaḥadan(with) anyone
٤٩(49)
And the record [of deeds] will be placed [open], and you will see the criminals fearful of that within it, and they will say, "Oh, woe to us! What is this book that leaves nothing small or great except that it has enumerated it?" And they will find what they did present [before them]. And your Lord does injustice to no one.
Juz 15Page 299
وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when
قُلْنَاqul'nāWe said
لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِlil'malāikatito the Angels
ٱسْجُدُوا۟us'judūProstrate
لِـَٔادَمَliādamato Adam
فَسَجَدُوٓا۟fasajadūso they prostrated
إِلَّآillāexcept
إِبْلِيسَib'līsaIblis
كَانَkāna(He) was
مِنَminaof
ٱلْجِنِّl-jinithe jinn
فَفَسَقَfafasaqaand he rebelled
عَنْʿanagainst
أَمْرِamrithe Command
رَبِّهِۦٓ ۗrabbihi(of) his Lord
أَفَتَتَّخِذُونَهُۥafatattakhidhūnahuWill you then take him
وَذُرِّيَّتَهُۥٓwadhurriyyatahuand his offspring
أَوْلِيَآءَawliyāa(as) protectors
مِنminother than Me
دُونِىdūnīother than Me
وَهُمْwahumwhile they
لَكُمْlakum(are) to you
عَدُوٌّۢ ۚʿaduwwunenemies
بِئْسَbi'saWretched
لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَlilẓẓālimīnafor the wrongdoers
بَدَلًۭاbadalan(is) the exchange
٥٠(50)
And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was of the jinn and departed from [i.e., disobeyed] the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange.

۞ مَّآmāNot
أَشْهَدتُّهُمْashhadttuhumI made them witness
خَلْقَkhalqathe creation
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth
وَلَاwalāand not
خَلْقَkhalqathe creation
أَنفُسِهِمْanfusihim(of) themselves
وَمَاwamāand not
كُنتُkuntuI Am
مُتَّخِذَmuttakhidhathe One to take
ٱلْمُضِلِّينَl-muḍilīnathe misleaders
عَضُدًۭاʿaḍudan(as) helper(s)
٥١(51)
I did not make them witness to the creation of the heavens and the earth or to the creation of themselves, and I would not have taken the misguiders as assistants.
Juz 15Page 299
وَيَوْمَwayawmaAnd the Day
يَقُولُyaqūluHe will say
نَادُوا۟nādūCall
شُرَكَآءِىَshurakāiyaMy partners
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
زَعَمْتُمْzaʿamtumyou claimed
فَدَعَوْهُمْfadaʿawhumthen they will call them
فَلَمْfalambut not
يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟yastajībūthey will respond
لَهُمْlahumto them
وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāAnd We will make
بَيْنَهُمbaynahumbetween them
مَّوْبِقًۭاmawbiqana barrier
٥٢(52)
And [warn of] the Day when He will say, "Call My 'partners' whom you claimed," and they will invoke them, but they will not respond to them. And We will put between them [a valley of] destruction.
Juz 15Page 299
وَرَءَاwaraāAnd will see
ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَl-muj'rimūnathe criminals
ٱلنَّارَl-nārathe Fire
فَظَنُّوٓا۟faẓannūand they (will be) certain
أَنَّهُمannahumthat they
مُّوَاقِعُوهَاmuwāqiʿūhāare to fall in it
وَلَمْwalamAnd not
يَجِدُوا۟yajidūthey will find
عَنْهَاʿanhāfrom it
مَصْرِفًۭاmaṣrifana way of escape
٥٣(53)
And the criminals will see the Fire and will be certain that they are to fall therein. And they will not find from it a way elsewhere.

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainly
صَرَّفْنَاṣarrafnāWe have explained
فِىfīin
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
ٱلْقُرْءَانِl-qur'ānithe Quran
لِلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor mankind
مِنminof
كُلِّkullievery
مَثَلٍۢ ۚmathalinexample
وَكَانَwakānaBut is
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānuthe man
أَكْثَرَakthara(in) most
شَىْءٍۢshayinthings
جَدَلًۭاjadalanquarrelsome
٥٤(54)
And We have certainly diversified in this Qur’ān for the people from every [kind of] example; but man has ever been, most of anything, [prone to] dispute.
Juz 15Page 300
وَمَاwamāAnd nothing
مَنَعَmanaʿaprevents
ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsamen
أَنanthat
يُؤْمِنُوٓا۟yu'minūthey believe
إِذْidhwhen
جَآءَهُمُjāahumuhas come to them
ٱلْهُدَىٰl-hudāthe guidance
وَيَسْتَغْفِرُوا۟wayastaghfirūand they ask forgiveness
رَبَّهُمْrabbahum(of) their Lord
إِلَّآillāexcept
أَنanthat
تَأْتِيَهُمْtatiyahumcomes to them
سُنَّةُsunnatu(the) way
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīna(of) the former (people)
أَوْawor
يَأْتِيَهُمُyatiyahumucomes to them
ٱلْعَذَابُl-ʿadhābuthe punishment
قُبُلًۭاqubulanbefore (them)
٥٥(55)
And nothing has prevented the people from believing when guidance came to them and from asking forgiveness of their Lord except that there [must] befall them the [accustomed] precedent of the former peoples or that the punishment should come [directly] before them.

وَمَاwamāAnd not
نُرْسِلُnur'siluWe send
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَl-mur'salīnathe Messengers
إِلَّاillāexcept
مُبَشِّرِينَmubashirīna(as) bearers of glad tidings
وَمُنذِرِينَ ۚwamundhirīnaand (as) warners
وَيُجَـٰدِلُwayujādiluAnd dispute
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِbil-bāṭiliwith falsehood
لِيُدْحِضُوا۟liyud'ḥiḍūto refute
بِهِbihithereby
ٱلْحَقَّ ۖl-ḥaqathe truth
وَٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟wa-ittakhadhūAnd they take
ءَايَـٰتِىāyātīMy Verses
وَمَآwamāand what
أُنذِرُوا۟undhirūthey are warned
هُزُوًۭاhuzuwan(in) ridicule
٥٦(56)
And We send not the messengers except as bringers of good tidings and warners. And those who disbelieve dispute by [using] falsehood to [attempt to] invalidate thereby the truth and have taken My verses, and that of which they are warned, in ridicule.

وَمَنْwamanAnd who
أَظْلَمُaẓlamu(is) more wrong
مِمَّنmimmanthan (he) who
ذُكِّرَdhukkirais reminded
بِـَٔايَـٰتِbiāyātiof the Verses
رَبِّهِۦrabbihi(of) his Lord
فَأَعْرَضَfa-aʿraḍabut turns away
عَنْهَاʿanhāfrom them
وَنَسِىَwanasiyaand forgets
مَاmāwhat
قَدَّمَتْqaddamathave sent forth
يَدَاهُ ۚyadāhuhis hands
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
جَعَلْنَاjaʿalnā[We] have placed
عَلَىٰʿalāover
قُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihimtheir hearts
أَكِنَّةًakinnatancoverings
أَنanlest
يَفْقَهُوهُyafqahūhuthey understand it
وَفِىٓwafīand in
ءَاذَانِهِمْādhānihimtheir ears
وَقْرًۭا ۖwaqran(is) deafness
وَإِنwa-inAnd if
تَدْعُهُمْtadʿuhumyou call them
إِلَىilāto
ٱلْهُدَىٰl-hudāthe guidance
فَلَنfalanthen never
يَهْتَدُوٓا۟yahtadūthey will be guided
إِذًاidhanthen
أَبَدًۭاabadanever
٥٧(57)
And who is more unjust than one who is reminded of the verses of his Lord but turns away from them and forgets what his hands have put forth? Indeed, We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And if you invite them to guidance - they will never be guided, then - ever.

وَرَبُّكَwarabbukaAnd your Lord
ٱلْغَفُورُl-ghafūru(is) the Most Forgiving
ذُوdhūOwner
ٱلرَّحْمَةِ ۖl-raḥmati(of) the Mercy
لَوْlawIf
يُؤَاخِذُهُمyuākhidhuhumHe were to seize them
بِمَاbimāfor what
كَسَبُوا۟kasabūthey have earned
لَعَجَّلَlaʿajjalasurely, He (would) have hastened
لَهُمُlahumufor them
ٱلْعَذَابَ ۚl-ʿadhābathe punishment
بَلbalBut
لَّهُمlahumfor them
مَّوْعِدٌۭmawʿidun(is) an appointment
لَّنlannever
يَجِدُوا۟yajidūthey will find
مِنminother than it
دُونِهِۦdūnihiother than it
مَوْئِلًۭاmawilanan escape
٥٨(58)
And your Lord is the Forgiving, the possessor of mercy. If He were to impose blame upon them for what they earned, He would have hastened for them the punishment. Rather, for them is an appointment from which they will never find an escape.

وَتِلْكَwatil'kaAnd these
ٱلْقُرَىٰٓl-qurā[the] towns
أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْahlaknāhumWe destroyed them
لَمَّاlammāwhen
ظَلَمُوا۟ẓalamūthey wronged
وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāand We made
لِمَهْلِكِهِمlimahlikihimfor their destruction
مَّوْعِدًۭاmawʿidanan appointed time
٥٩(59)
And those cities - We destroyed them when they wronged, and We made for their destruction an appointed time.

وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when
قَالَqālasaid
مُوسَىٰmūsāMusa
لِفَتَىٰهُlifatāhuto his boy
لَآlāNot
أَبْرَحُabraḥuI will cease
حَتَّىٰٓḥattāuntil
أَبْلُغَablughaI reach
مَجْمَعَmajmaʿathe junction
ٱلْبَحْرَيْنِl-baḥrayni(of) the two seas
أَوْawor
أَمْضِىَamḍiyaI continue
حُقُبًۭاḥuquban(for) a long period
٦٠(60)
And [mention] when Moses said to his boy [i.e., servant], "I will not cease [traveling] until I reach the junction of the two seas or continue for a long period."

فَلَمَّاfalammāBut when
بَلَغَاbalaghāthey reached
مَجْمَعَmajmaʿathe junction
بَيْنِهِمَاbaynihimābetween them
نَسِيَاnasiyāthey forgot
حُوتَهُمَاḥūtahumātheir fish
فَٱتَّخَذَfa-ittakhadhaand it took
سَبِيلَهُۥsabīlahuits way
فِىfīinto
ٱلْبَحْرِl-baḥrithe sea
سَرَبًۭاsarabanslipping away
٦١(61)
But when they reached the junction between them, they forgot their fish, and it took its course into the sea, slipping away.

فَلَمَّاfalammāThen when
جَاوَزَاjāwazāthey had passed beyond
قَالَqālahe said
لِفَتَىٰهُlifatāhuto his boy
ءَاتِنَاātināBring us
غَدَآءَنَاghadāanāour morning meal
لَقَدْlaqadCertainly
لَقِينَاlaqīnāwe have suffered
مِنminin
سَفَرِنَاsafarināour journey
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
نَصَبًۭاnaṣabanfatigue
٦٢(62)
So when they had passed beyond it, [Moses] said to his boy, "Bring us our morning meal. We have certainly suffered in this, our journey, [much] fatigue."

قَالَqālaHe said
أَرَءَيْتَara-aytaDid you see
إِذْidhwhen
أَوَيْنَآawaynāwe retired
إِلَىilāto
ٱلصَّخْرَةِl-ṣakhratithe rock
فَإِنِّىfa-innīThen indeed, I
نَسِيتُnasītu[I] forgot
ٱلْحُوتَl-ḥūtathe fish
وَمَآwamāAnd not
أَنسَىٰنِيهُansānīhumade me forget it
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُl-shayṭānuthe Shaitaan
أَنْanthat
أَذْكُرَهُۥ ۚadhkurahuI mention it
وَٱتَّخَذَwa-ittakhadhaAnd it took
سَبِيلَهُۥsabīlahuits way
فِىfīinto
ٱلْبَحْرِl-baḥrithe sea
عَجَبًۭاʿajabanamazingly
٦٣(63)
He said, "Did you see when we retired to the rock? Indeed, I forgot [there] the fish. And none made me forget it except Satan - that I should mention it. And it took its course into the sea amazingly."

قَالَqālaHe said
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
مَاmā(is) what
كُنَّاkunnāwe were
نَبْغِ ۚnabghiseeking
فَٱرْتَدَّاfa-ir'taddāSo they returned
عَلَىٰٓʿalāon
ءَاثَارِهِمَاāthārihimātheir footprints
قَصَصًۭاqaṣaṣanretracing
٦٤(64)
[Moses] said, "That is what we were seeking." So they returned, following their footprints.

فَوَجَدَاfawajadāThen they found
عَبْدًۭاʿabdana servant
مِّنْminfrom
عِبَادِنَآʿibādināOur servants
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُātaynāhuwhom We had given
رَحْمَةًۭraḥmatanmercy
مِّنْminfrom
عِندِنَاʿindināUs
وَعَلَّمْنَـٰهُwaʿallamnāhuand We had taught him
مِنminfrom
لَّدُنَّاladunnāUs
عِلْمًۭاʿil'mana knowledge
٦٥(65)
And they found a servant from among Our servants [i.e., al-Khiḍr] to whom We had given mercy from Us and had taught him from Us a [certain] knowledge.

قَالَqālaSaid
لَهُۥlahuto him
مُوسَىٰmūsāMusa
هَلْhalMay
أَتَّبِعُكَattabiʿukaI follow you
عَلَىٰٓʿalāon
أَنanthat
تُعَلِّمَنِtuʿallimaniyou teach me
مِمَّاmimmāof what
عُلِّمْتَʿullim'tayou have been taught
رُشْدًۭاrush'dan(of) right guidance
٦٦(66)
Moses said to him, "May I follow you on [the condition] that you teach me from what you have been taught of sound judgement?"

قَالَqālaHe said
إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, you
لَنlannever
تَسْتَطِيعَtastaṭīʿawill be able
مَعِىَmaʿiyawith me
صَبْرًۭاṣabran(to have) patience
٦٧(67)
He said, "Indeed, with me you will never be able to have patience.

وَكَيْفَwakayfaAnd how can
تَصْبِرُtaṣbiruyou have patience
عَلَىٰʿalāfor
مَاmāwhat
لَمْlamnot
تُحِطْtuḥiṭyou encompass
بِهِۦbihiof it
خُبْرًۭاkhub'ranany knowledge
٦٨(68)
And how can you have patience for what you do not encompass in knowledge?"

قَالَqālaHe said
سَتَجِدُنِىٓsatajidunīYou will find me
إِنinif
شَآءَshāaAllah wills
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah wills
صَابِرًۭاṣābiranpatient
وَلَآwalāand not
أَعْصِىaʿṣīI will disobey
لَكَlakayour
أَمْرًۭاamranorder
٦٩(69)
[Moses] said, "You will find me, if Allāh wills, patient, and I will not disobey you in [any] order."

قَالَqālaHe said
فَإِنِfa-iniThen if
ٱتَّبَعْتَنِىittabaʿtanīyou follow me
فَلَاfalā(do) not
تَسْـَٔلْنِىtasalnīask me
عَنʿanabout
شَىْءٍshayinanything
حَتَّىٰٓḥattāuntil
أُحْدِثَuḥ'dithaI present
لَكَlakato you
مِنْهُmin'huof it
ذِكْرًۭاdhik'rana mention
٧٠(70)
He said, "Then if you follow me, do not ask me about anything until I make to you about it mention [i.e., explanation]."

فَٱنطَلَقَاfa-inṭalaqāSo they both set out
حَتَّىٰٓḥattāuntil
إِذَاidhāwhen
رَكِبَاrakibāthey had embarked
فِىfīon
ٱلسَّفِينَةِl-safīnatithe ship
خَرَقَهَا ۖkharaqahāhe made a hole in it
قَالَqālaHe said
أَخَرَقْتَهَاakharaqtahāHave you made a hole in it
لِتُغْرِقَlitugh'riqato drown
أَهْلَهَاahlahāits people
لَقَدْlaqadCertainly
جِئْتَji'tayou have done
شَيْـًٔاshayana thing
إِمْرًۭاim'rangrave
٧١(71)
So they set out, until when they had embarked on the ship, he [i.e., al-Khiḍr] tore it open. [Moses] said, "Have you torn it open to drown its people? You have certainly done a grave thing."

قَالَqālaHe said
أَلَمْalamDid not
أَقُلْaqulI say
إِنَّكَinnakaindeed, you
لَنlannever
تَسْتَطِيعَtastaṭīʿawill be able
مَعِىَmaʿiyawith me
صَبْرًۭاṣabran(to have) patience
٧٢(72)
[Al-Khiḍr] said, "Did I not say that with me you would never be able to have patience?"

قَالَqālaHe said
لَاlā(Do) not
تُؤَاخِذْنِىtuākhidh'nīblame me
بِمَاbimāfor what
نَسِيتُnasītuI forgot
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تُرْهِقْنِىtur'hiq'nībe hard (upon) me
مِنْminin
أَمْرِىamrīmy affair
عُسْرًۭاʿus'ran(raising) difficulty
٧٣(73)
[Moses] said, "Do not blame me for what I forgot and do not overwhelm me in my matter with difficulty."

فَٱنطَلَقَاfa-inṭalaqāThen they both set out
حَتَّىٰٓḥattāuntil
إِذَاidhāwhen
لَقِيَاlaqiyāthey met
غُلَـٰمًۭاghulāmana boy
فَقَتَلَهُۥfaqatalahuthen he killed him
قَالَqālaHe said
أَقَتَلْتَaqataltaHave you killed
نَفْسًۭاnafsana soul
زَكِيَّةًۢzakiyyatanpure
بِغَيْرِbighayrifor other than
نَفْسٍۢnafsina soul
لَّقَدْlaqadCertainly
جِئْتَji'tayou have done
شَيْـًۭٔاshayana thing
نُّكْرًۭاnuk'ranevil
٧٤(74)
So they set out, until when they met a boy, he [i.e., al-Khiḍr] killed him. [Moses] said, "Have you killed a pure soul for other than [having killed] a soul? You have certainly done a deplorable thing."

۞ قَالَqālaHe said
أَلَمْalamDid not
أَقُلaqulI say
لَّكَlakato you
إِنَّكَinnakathat you
لَنlannever
تَسْتَطِيعَtastaṭīʿawill be able
مَعِىَmaʿiyawith me
صَبْرًۭاṣabran(to have) patience
٧٥(75)
[Al-Khiḍr] said, "Did I not tell you that with me you would never be able to have patience?"

قَالَqālaHe said
إِنinIf
سَأَلْتُكَsa-altukaI ask you
عَنʿanabout
شَىْءٍۭshayinanything
بَعْدَهَاbaʿdahāafter it
فَلَاfalāthen (do) not
تُصَـٰحِبْنِى ۖtuṣāḥib'nīkeep me as a companion
قَدْqadVerily
بَلَغْتَbalaghtayou have reached
مِنminfrom me
لَّدُنِّىladunnīfrom me
عُذْرًۭاʿudh'ranan excuse
٧٦(76)
[Moses] said, "If I should ask you about anything after this, then do not keep me as a companion. You have obtained from me an excuse."

فَٱنطَلَقَاfa-inṭalaqāSo they set out
حَتَّىٰٓḥattāuntil
إِذَآidhāwhen
أَتَيَآatayāthey came
أَهْلَahla(to the) people
قَرْيَةٍqaryatin(of) a town
ٱسْتَطْعَمَآis'taṭʿamāthey asked for food
أَهْلَهَاahlahā(from) its people
فَأَبَوْا۟fa-abawbut they refused
أَنanto
يُضَيِّفُوهُمَاyuḍayyifūhumāoffer them hospitality
فَوَجَدَاfawajadāThen they found
فِيهَاfīhāin it
جِدَارًۭاjidārana wall
يُرِيدُyurīdu(that) want(ed)
أَنanto
يَنقَضَّyanqaḍḍacollapse
فَأَقَامَهُۥ ۖfa-aqāmahuso he set it straight
قَالَqālaHe said
لَوْlawIf
شِئْتَshi'tayou wished
لَتَّخَذْتَlattakhadhtasurely you (could) have taken
عَلَيْهِʿalayhifor it
أَجْرًۭاajrana payment
٧٧(77)
So they set out, until when they came to the people of a town, they asked its people for food, but they refused to offer them hospitality. And they found therein a wall about to collapse, so he [i.e., al-Khiḍr] restored it. [Moses] said, "If you wished, you could have taken for it a payment."

قَالَqālaHe said
هَـٰذَاhādhāThis
فِرَاقُfirāqu(is) parting
بَيْنِىbaynībetween me
وَبَيْنِكَ ۚwabaynikaand between you
سَأُنَبِّئُكَsa-unabbi-ukaI will inform you
بِتَأْوِيلِbitawīliof (the) interpretation
مَاmā(of) what
لَمْlamnot
تَسْتَطِعtastaṭiʿyou were able
عَّلَيْهِʿalayhion it
صَبْرًاṣabran(to have) patience
٧٨(78)
[Al-Khiḍr] said, "This is parting between me and you. I will inform you of the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience.

أَمَّاammāAs for
ٱلسَّفِينَةُl-safīnatuthe ship
فَكَانَتْfakānatit was
لِمَسَـٰكِينَlimasākīnaof (the) poor people
يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnaworking
فِىfīin
ٱلْبَحْرِl-baḥrithe sea
فَأَرَدتُّfa-aradttuSo I intended
أَنْanthat
أَعِيبَهَاaʿībahāI cause defect (in) it
وَكَانَwakāna(as there) was
وَرَآءَهُمwarāahumafter them
مَّلِكٌۭmalikuna king
يَأْخُذُyakhudhuwho seized
كُلَّkullaevery
سَفِينَةٍsafīnatinship
غَصْبًۭاghaṣban(by) force
٧٩(79)
As for the ship, it belonged to poor people working at sea. So I intended to cause defect in it as there was after them a king who seized every [good] ship by force.

وَأَمَّاwa-ammāAnd as for
ٱلْغُلَـٰمُl-ghulāmuthe boy
فَكَانَfakānahis parents were
أَبَوَاهُabawāhuhis parents were
مُؤْمِنَيْنِmu'minaynibelievers
فَخَشِينَآfakhashīnāand we feared
أَنanthat
يُرْهِقَهُمَاyur'hiqahumāhe would overburden them
طُغْيَـٰنًۭاṭugh'yānan(by) transgression
وَكُفْرًۭاwakuf'ranand disbelief
٨٠(80)
And as for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared that he would overburden them by transgression and disbelief.

فَأَرَدْنَآfa-aradnāSo we intended
أَنanthat
يُبْدِلَهُمَاyub'dilahumāwould change for them
رَبُّهُمَاrabbuhumātheir Lord
خَيْرًۭاkhayrana better
مِّنْهُmin'huthan him
زَكَوٰةًۭzakatan(in) purity
وَأَقْرَبَwa-aqrabaand nearer
رُحْمًۭاruḥ'man(in) affection
٨١(81)
So we intended that their Lord should substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy.

وَأَمَّاwa-ammāAnd as for
ٱلْجِدَارُl-jidāruthe wall
فَكَانَfakānait was
لِغُلَـٰمَيْنِlighulāmaynifor two orphan boys
يَتِيمَيْنِyatīmaynifor two orphan boys
فِىfīin
ٱلْمَدِينَةِl-madīnatithe town
وَكَانَwakānaand was
تَحْتَهُۥtaḥtahuunderneath it
كَنزٌۭkanzuna treasure
لَّهُمَاlahumāfor them
وَكَانَwakānaand was
أَبُوهُمَاabūhumātheir father
صَـٰلِحًۭاṣāliḥanrighteous
فَأَرَادَfa-arādaSo intended
رَبُّكَrabbukayour Lord
أَنanthat
يَبْلُغَآyablughāthey reach
أَشُدَّهُمَاashuddahumātheir maturity
وَيَسْتَخْرِجَاwayastakhrijāand bring forth
كَنزَهُمَاkanzahumātheir treasure
رَحْمَةًۭraḥmatan(as) a mercy
مِّنminfrom
رَّبِّكَ ۚrabbikayour Lord
وَمَاwamāAnd not
فَعَلْتُهُۥfaʿaltuhuI did it
عَنْʿanon
أَمْرِى ۚamrīmy (own) accord
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
تَأْوِيلُtawīlu(is the) interpretation
مَاmā(of) what
لَمْlamnot
تَسْطِعtasṭiʿyou were able
عَّلَيْهِʿalayhion it
صَبْرًۭاṣabran(to have) patience
٨٢(82)
And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure for them, and their father had been righteous. So your Lord intended that they reach maturity and extract their treasure, as a mercy from your Lord. And I did it not of my own accord. That is the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience."

وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَwayasalūnakaAnd they ask you
عَنʿanabout
ذِىdhīDhul-qarnain
ٱلْقَرْنَيْنِ ۖl-qarnayniDhul-qarnain
قُلْqulSay
سَأَتْلُوا۟sa-atlūI will recite
عَلَيْكُمʿalaykumto you
مِّنْهُmin'huabout him
ذِكْرًاdhik'rana remembrance
٨٣(83)
And they ask you, [O Muḥammad], about Dhul-Qarnayn. Say, "I will recite to you about him a report."

إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
مَكَّنَّاmakkannā[We] established
لَهُۥlahu[for] him
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُwaātaynāhuand We gave him
مِنminof
كُلِّkullievery
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
سَبَبًۭاsababana means
٨٤(84)
Indeed, We established him upon the earth, and We gave him from everything a way [i.e., means].

فَأَتْبَعَfa-atbaʿaSo he followed
سَبَبًاsababana course
٨٥(85)
So he followed a way

حَتَّىٰٓḥattāUntil
إِذَاidhāwhen
بَلَغَbalaghahe reached
مَغْرِبَmaghriba(the) setting place
ٱلشَّمْسِl-shamsi(of) the sun
وَجَدَهَاwajadahāhe found it
تَغْرُبُtaghrubusetting
فِىfīin
عَيْنٍʿaynina spring
حَمِئَةٍۢḥami-atin(of) dark mud
وَوَجَدَwawajadaand he found
عِندَهَاʿindahānear it
قَوْمًۭا ۗqawmana community
قُلْنَاqul'nāWe said
يَـٰذَاyādhāO Dhul-qarnain
ٱلْقَرْنَيْنِl-qarnayniO Dhul-qarnain
إِمَّآimmāEither
أَنan[that]
تُعَذِّبَtuʿadhibayou punish
وَإِمَّآwa-immāor
أَنan[that]
تَتَّخِذَtattakhidhayou take
فِيهِمْfīhim[in] them
حُسْنًۭاḥus'nan(with) goodness
٨٦(86)
Until, when he reached the setting of the sun [i.e., the west], he found it [as if] setting in a body of dark water, and he found near it a people. We [i.e., Allāh] said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, either you punish [them] or else adopt among them [a way of] goodness."

قَالَqālaHe said
أَمَّاammāAs for
مَنman(one) who
ظَلَمَẓalamawrongs
فَسَوْفَfasawfathen soon
نُعَذِّبُهُۥnuʿadhibuhuwe will punish him
ثُمَّthummaThen
يُرَدُّyuradduhe will be returned
إِلَىٰilāto
رَبِّهِۦrabbihihis Lord
فَيُعَذِّبُهُۥfayuʿadhibuhuand He will punish him
عَذَابًۭاʿadhāban(with) a punishment
نُّكْرًۭاnuk'ranterrible
٨٧(87)
He said, "As for one who wrongs, we will punish him. Then he will be returned to his Lord, and He will punish him with a terrible punishment [i.e., Hellfire].

وَأَمَّاwa-ammāBut as for
مَنْman(one) who
ءَامَنَāmanabelieves
وَعَمِلَwaʿamilaand does
صَـٰلِحًۭاṣāliḥanrighteous (deeds)
فَلَهُۥfalahuthen for him
جَزَآءًjazāan(is) a reward
ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۖl-ḥus'nāgood
وَسَنَقُولُwasanaqūluAnd we will speak
لَهُۥlahuto him
مِنْminfrom
أَمْرِنَاamrināour command
يُسْرًۭاyus'ran(with) ease
٨٨(88)
But as for one who believes and does righteousness, he will have a reward of the best [i.e., Paradise], and we [i.e., Dhul-Qarnayn] will speak to him from our command with ease."

سَبَبًاsababan(a) course

Then he followed a way

حَتَّىٰٓḥattāUntil
إِذَاidhāwhen
بَلَغَbalaghahe reached
مَطْلِعَmaṭliʿa(the) rising place
ٱلشَّمْسِl-shamsi(of) the sun
وَجَدَهَاwajadahāand he found it
تَطْلُعُtaṭluʿurising
عَلَىٰʿalāon
قَوْمٍۢqawmina community
لَّمْlamnot
نَجْعَلnajʿalWe made
لَّهُمlahumfor them
مِّنminagainst it
دُونِهَاdūnihāagainst it
سِتْرًۭاsit'ranany shelter
٩٠(90)
Until, when he came to the rising of the sun [i.e., the east], he found it rising on a people for whom We had not made against it any shield.

كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
وَقَدْwaqadAnd verily
أَحَطْنَاaḥaṭnāWe encompassed
بِمَاbimāof what
لَدَيْهِladayhi(was) with him
خُبْرًۭاkhub'ran(of the) information
٩١(91)
Thus. And We had encompassed [all] that he had in knowledge.

Then he followed a way

حَتَّىٰٓḥattāUntil
إِذَاidhāwhen
بَلَغَbalaghahe reached
بَيْنَbaynabetween
ٱلسَّدَّيْنِl-sadaynithe two mountains
وَجَدَwajadahe found
مِنminbesides them
دُونِهِمَاdūnihimābesides them
قَوْمًۭاqawmana community
لَّاlānot
يَكَادُونَyakādūnawho would almost
يَفْقَهُونَyafqahūnaunderstand
قَوْلًۭاqawlan(his) speech
٩٣(93)
Until, when he reached [a pass] between two mountains, he found beside them a people who could hardly understand [his] speech.

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
يَـٰذَاyādhāO Dhul-qarnain
ٱلْقَرْنَيْنِl-qarnayniO Dhul-qarnain
إِنَّinnaIndeed
يَأْجُوجَyajūjaYajuj
وَمَأْجُوجَwamajūjaand Majuj
مُفْسِدُونَmuf'sidūna(are) corrupters
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe land
فَهَلْfahalSo may
نَجْعَلُnajʿaluwe make
لَكَlakafor you
خَرْجًاkharjanan expenditure
عَلَىٰٓʿalā[on]
أَنanthat
تَجْعَلَtajʿalayou make
بَيْنَنَاbaynanābetween us
وَبَيْنَهُمْwabaynahumand between them
سَدًّۭاsaddana barrier
٩٤(94)
They said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are [great] corrupters in the land. So may we assign for you an expenditure that you might make between us and them a barrier?"

قَالَqālaHe said
مَاmāWhat
مَكَّنِّىmakkannīhas established me
فِيهِfīhi[in it]
رَبِّىrabbīmy Lord
خَيْرٌۭkhayrun(is) better
فَأَعِينُونِىfa-aʿīnūnībut assist me
بِقُوَّةٍbiquwwatinwith strength
أَجْعَلْajʿalI will make
بَيْنَكُمْbaynakumbetween you
وَبَيْنَهُمْwabaynahumand between them
رَدْمًاradmana barrier
٩٥(95)
He said, "That in which my Lord has established me is better [than what you offer], but assist me with strength [i.e., manpower]; I will make between you and them a dam.

ءَاتُونِىātūnīBring me
زُبَرَzubarasheets
ٱلْحَدِيدِ ۖl-ḥadīdi(of) iron
حَتَّىٰٓḥattāuntil
إِذَاidhāwhen
سَاوَىٰsāwāhe (had) leveled
بَيْنَbaynabetween
ٱلصَّدَفَيْنِl-ṣadafaynithe two cliffs
قَالَqālahe said
ٱنفُخُوا۟ ۖunfukhūBlow
حَتَّىٰٓḥattāuntil
إِذَاidhāwhen
جَعَلَهُۥjaʿalahuhe made it
نَارًۭاnāranfire
قَالَqālahe said
ءَاتُونِىٓātūnīBring me
أُفْرِغْuf'righI pour
عَلَيْهِʿalayhiover it
قِطْرًۭاqiṭ'ranmolten copper
٩٦(96)
Bring me bars of iron" - until, when he had leveled [them] between the two mountain walls, he said, "Blow [with bellows]," until when he had made it [like] fire, he said, "Bring me, that I may pour over it molten copper."

فَمَاfamāSo not
ٱسْطَـٰعُوٓا۟is'ṭāʿūthey were able
أَنanto
يَظْهَرُوهُyaẓharūhuscale it
وَمَاwamāand not
ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟is'taṭāʿūthey were able
لَهُۥlahuin it
نَقْبًۭاnaqban(to do) any penetration
٩٧(97)
So they [i.e., Gog and Magog] were unable to pass over it, nor were they able [to effect] in it any penetration.

قَالَqālaHe said
هَـٰذَاhādhāThis
رَحْمَةٌۭraḥmatun(is) a mercy
مِّنminfrom
رَّبِّى ۖrabbīmy Lord
فَإِذَاfa-idhāBut when
جَآءَjāacomes
وَعْدُwaʿdu(the) Promise
رَبِّىrabbī(of) my Lord
جَعَلَهُۥjaʿalahuHe will make it
دَكَّآءَ ۖdakkāalevel
وَكَانَwakānaAnd is
وَعْدُwaʿdu(the) Promise
رَبِّىrabbī(of) my Lord
حَقًّۭاḥaqqantrue
٩٨(98)
[Dhul-Qarnayn] said, "This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord comes [i.e., approaches], He will make it level, and ever is the promise of my Lord true."

۞ وَتَرَكْنَاwataraknāAnd We (will) leave
بَعْضَهُمْbaʿḍahumsome of them
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin(on) that Day
يَمُوجُyamūjuto surge
فِىfīover
بَعْضٍۢ ۖbaʿḍinothers
وَنُفِخَwanufikhaand (will be) blown
فِىfīin
ٱلصُّورِl-ṣūrithe trumpet
فَجَمَعْنَـٰهُمْfajamaʿnāhumthen We (will) gather them
جَمْعًۭاjamʿanall together
٩٩(99)
And We will leave them that day surging over each other, and [then] the Horn will be blown, and We will assemble them in [one] assembly.

وَعَرَضْنَاwaʿaraḍnāAnd We (will) present
جَهَنَّمَjahannamaHell
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin(on) that Day
لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَlil'kāfirīnato the disbelievers
عَرْضًاʿarḍan(on) display
١٠٠(100)
And We will present Hell that Day to the disbelievers, on display -

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose
كَانَتْkānathad been
أَعْيُنُهُمْaʿyunuhumtheir eyes
فِىfīwithin
غِطَآءٍghiṭāina cover
عَنʿanfrom
ذِكْرِىdhik'rīMy remembrance
وَكَانُوا۟wakānūand were
لَاlānot
يَسْتَطِيعُونَyastaṭīʿūnaable
سَمْعًاsamʿan(to) hear
١٠١(101)
Those whose eyes had been within a cover [removed] from My remembrance, and they were not able to hear.

أَفَحَسِبَafaḥasibaDo then think
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوٓا۟kafarūdisbelieve
أَنanthat
يَتَّخِذُوا۟yattakhidhūthey (can) take
عِبَادِىʿibādīMy servants
مِنminbesides Me
دُونِىٓdūnībesides Me
أَوْلِيَآءَ ۚawliyāa(as) protectors
إِنَّآinnāIndeed, We
أَعْتَدْنَاaʿtadnāWe have prepared
جَهَنَّمَjahannamaHell
لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَlil'kāfirīnafor the disbelievers
نُزُلًۭاnuzulan(as) a lodging
١٠٢(102)
Then do those who disbelieve think that they can take My servants instead of Me as allies? Indeed, We have prepared Hell for the disbelievers as a lodging.

قُلْqulSay
هَلْhalShall
نُنَبِّئُكُمnunabbi-ukumWe inform you
بِٱلْأَخْسَرِينَbil-akhsarīnaof the greatest losers
أَعْمَـٰلًاaʿmālan(as to their) deeds
١٠٣(103)
Say, [O Muḥammad], "Shall we [believers] inform you of the greatest losers as to [their] deeds?

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose
ضَلَّḍallais lost
سَعْيُهُمْsaʿyuhumtheir effort
فِىfīin
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِl-ḥayatithe life
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the world
وَهُمْwahumwhile they
يَحْسَبُونَyaḥsabūnathink
أَنَّهُمْannahumthat they
يُحْسِنُونَyuḥ'sinūna(were) acquiring good
صُنْعًاṣun'ʿan(in) work
١٠٤(104)
[They are] those whose effort is lost in worldly life, while they think that they are doing well in work."

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(are) the ones who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
بِـَٔايَـٰتِbiāyātiin the Verses
رَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) their Lord
وَلِقَآئِهِۦwaliqāihiand the meeting (with) Him
فَحَبِطَتْfaḥabiṭatSo (are) vain
أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْaʿmāluhumtheir deeds
فَلَاfalāso not
نُقِيمُnuqīmuWe will assign
لَهُمْlahumfor them
يَوْمَyawma(on) the Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
وَزْنًۭاwaznanany weight
١٠٥(105)
Those are the ones who disbelieve in the verses of their Lord and in [their] meeting Him, so their deeds have become worthless; and We will not assign to them on the Day of Resurrection any weight [i.e., importance].

ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
جَزَآؤُهُمْjazāuhum(is) their recompense
جَهَنَّمُjahannamuHell
بِمَاbimābecause
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūthey disbelieved
وَٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟wa-ittakhadhūand took
ءَايَـٰتِىāyātīMy Verses
وَرُسُلِىwarusulīand My Messengers
هُزُوًاhuzuwan(in) ridicule
١٠٦(106)
That is their recompense - Hell - for what they denied and [because] they took My signs and My messengers in ridicule.

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieved
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand did
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
كَانَتْkānatfor them will be
لَهُمْlahumfor them will be
جَنَّـٰتُjannātuGardens
ٱلْفِرْدَوْسِl-fir'dawsi(of) the Paradise
نُزُلًاnuzulan(as) a lodging
١٠٧(107)
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - they will have the Gardens of Paradise as a lodging,

خَـٰلِدِينَkhālidīnaAbiding forever
فِيهَاfīhāin it
لَاlāNot
يَبْغُونَyabghūnathey will desire
عَنْهَاʿanhāfrom it
حِوَلًۭاḥiwalanany transfer
١٠٨(108)
Wherein they abide eternally. They will not desire from it any transfer.

قُلqulSay
لَّوْlawIf
كَانَkānawere
ٱلْبَحْرُl-baḥruthe sea
مِدَادًۭاmidādanink
لِّكَلِمَـٰتِlikalimātifor (the) Words
رَبِّىrabbī(of) my Lord
لَنَفِدَlanafidasurely (would be) exhausted
ٱلْبَحْرُl-baḥruthe sea
قَبْلَqablabefore
أَنan[that]
تَنفَدَtanfada(were) exhausted
كَلِمَـٰتُkalimātu(the) Words
رَبِّىrabbī(of) my Lord
وَلَوْwalaweven if
جِئْنَاji'nāWe brought
بِمِثْلِهِۦbimith'lihi(the) like (of) it
مَدَدًۭاmadadan(as) a supplement
١٠٩(109)
Say, "If the sea were ink for [writing] the words of my Lord, the sea would be exhausted before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even if We brought the like of it in [continual] supplement."

قُلْqulSay
إِنَّمَآinnamāOnly
أَنَا۠anāI
بَشَرٌۭbasharun(am) a man
مِّثْلُكُمْmith'lukumlike you
يُوحَىٰٓyūḥāHas been revealed
إِلَىَّilayyato me
أَنَّمَآannamāthat
إِلَـٰهُكُمْilāhukumyour God
إِلَـٰهٌۭilāhun(is) God
وَٰحِدٌۭ ۖwāḥidunOne
فَمَنfamanSo whoever
كَانَkānais
يَرْجُوا۟yarjūhoping
لِقَآءَliqāa(for the) meeting
رَبِّهِۦrabbihi(with) his Lord
فَلْيَعْمَلْfalyaʿmallet him do
عَمَلًۭاʿamalandeeds
صَـٰلِحًۭاṣāliḥanrighteous
وَلَاwalāand not
يُشْرِكْyush'rikassociate
بِعِبَادَةِbiʿibādatiin (the) worship
رَبِّهِۦٓrabbihi(of) his Lord
أَحَدًۢاaḥadananyone
١١٠(110)
Say, "I am only a man like you, to whom has been revealed that your god is one God. So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord - let him do righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone."
