مَآ
Not
أَنزَلْنَا
anzalnāWe (have) sent down
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalaykato you
ٱلْقُرْءَانَ
l-qur'ānathe Quran
لِتَشْقَىٰٓ
litashqāthat you be distressed
٢
(2)
We have not sent down to you the Qur’ān that you be distressed

إِلَّا
illā(But)
تَذْكِرَةًۭ
tadhkiratan(as) a reminder
لِّمَن
limanfor (those) who
يَخْشَىٰ
yakhshāfear
٣
(3)
But only as a reminder for those who fear [Allāh] -

تَنزِيلًۭا
tanzīlanA revelation
مِّمَّنْ
mimmanfrom (He) Who
خَلَقَ
khalaqacreated
ٱلْأَرْضَ
l-arḍathe earth
وَٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
wal-samāwātiand the heavens
ٱلْعُلَى
l-ʿulā[the] high
٤
(4)
A revelation from He who created the earth and highest heavens,

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ
al-raḥmānuThe Most Gracious
عَلَى
ʿalāover
ٱلْعَرْشِ
l-ʿarshithe Throne
ٱسْتَوَىٰ
is'tawāis established
٥
(5)
The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established.

لَهُۥ
lahuTo Him (belongs)
مَا
whatever
فِى
(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwātithe heavens
وَمَا
wamāand whatever
فِى
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
وَمَا
wamāand whatever
بَيْنَهُمَا
baynahumā(is) between them
وَمَا
wamāand whatever
تَحْتَ
taḥta(is) under
ٱلثَّرَىٰ
l-tharāthe soil
٦
(6)
To Him belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth and what is between them and what is under the soil.

وَإِن
wa-inAnd if
تَجْهَرْ
tajharyou speak aloud
بِٱلْقَوْلِ
bil-qawlithe word
فَإِنَّهُۥ
fa-innahuthen indeed, He
يَعْلَمُ
yaʿlamuknows
ٱلسِّرَّ
l-sirathe secret
وَأَخْفَى
wa-akhfāand the more hidden
٧
(7)
And if you speak aloud - then indeed, He knows the secret and what is [even] more hidden.

ٱللَّهُ
al-lahuAllah
لَآ
(there is) no
إِلَـٰهَ
ilāhagod
إِلَّا
illāexcept
هُوَ ۖ
huwaHim
لَهُ
lahuTo Him (belong)
ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ
l-asmāuthe Names
ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ
l-ḥus'nāthe Most Beautiful
٨
(8)
Allāh - there is no deity except Him. To Him belong the best names.

وَهَلْ
wahalAnd has
أَتَىٰكَ
atākacome to you
حَدِيثُ
ḥadīthuthe narration
مُوسَىٰٓ
mūsā(of) Musa
٩
(9)
And has the story of Moses reached you? -

إِذْ
idhWhen
رَءَا
raāhe saw
نَارًۭا
nārana fire
فَقَالَ
faqālathen he said
لِأَهْلِهِ
li-ahlihito his family
ٱمْكُثُوٓا۟
um'kuthūStay here
إِنِّىٓ
innīindeed, I
ءَانَسْتُ
ānastu[I] perceived
نَارًۭا
nārana fire
لَّعَلِّىٓ
laʿallīperhaps I (can)
ءَاتِيكُم
ātīkumbring you
مِّنْهَا
min'hātherefrom
بِقَبَسٍ
biqabasina burning brand
أَوْ
awor
أَجِدُ
ajiduI find
عَلَى
ʿalāat
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nārithe fire
هُدًۭى
hudanguidance
١٠
(10)
When he saw a fire and said to his family, "Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire; perhaps I can bring you a torch or find at the fire some guidance."

فَلَمَّآ
falammāThen when
أَتَىٰهَا
atāhāhe came to it
نُودِىَ
nūdiyahe was called
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ
yāmūsāO Musa
١١
(11)
And when he came to it, he was called, "O Moses,

إِنِّىٓ
innīIndeed, [I]
أَنَا۠
anāI Am
رَبُّكَ
rabbukayour Lord
فَٱخْلَعْ
fa-ikh'laʿso remove
نَعْلَيْكَ ۖ
naʿlaykayour shoes
إِنَّكَ
innakaIndeed, you
بِٱلْوَادِ
bil-wādi(are) in the valley
ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ
l-muqadasithe sacred
طُوًۭى
ṭuwan(of) Tuwa
١٢
(12)
Indeed, I am your Lord, so remove your sandals. Indeed, you are in the blessed valley of Ṭuwā.

وَأَنَا
wa-anāAnd I
ٱخْتَرْتُكَ
ikh'tartuka(have) chosen you
فَٱسْتَمِعْ
fa-is'tamiʿso listen
لِمَا
limāto what
يُوحَىٰٓ
yūḥāis revealed
١٣
(13)
And I have chosen you, so listen to what is revealed [to you].

إِنَّنِىٓ
innanīIndeed, [I]
أَنَا
anāI Am
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
لَآ
(There is) no
إِلَـٰهَ
ilāhagod
إِلَّآ
illābut
أَنَا۠
anāI
فَٱعْبُدْنِى
fa-uʿ'bud'nīso worship Me
وَأَقِمِ
wa-aqimiand establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
l-ṣalatathe prayer
لِذِكْرِىٓ
lidhik'rīfor My remembrance
١٤
(14)
Indeed, I am Allāh. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.

إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱلسَّاعَةَ
l-sāʿatathe Hour
ءَاتِيَةٌ
ātiyatun(will be) coming
أَكَادُ
akāduI almost
أُخْفِيهَا
ukh'fīhā[I] hide it
لِتُجْزَىٰ
lituj'zāthat may be recompensed
كُلُّ
kulluevery
نَفْسٍۭ
nafsinsoul
بِمَا
bimāfor what
تَسْعَىٰ
tasʿāit strives
١٥
(15)
Indeed, the Hour is coming - I almost conceal it - so that every soul may be recompensed according to that for which it strives.

فَلَا
falāSo (do) not
يَصُدَّنَّكَ
yaṣuddannaka(let) avert you
عَنْهَا
ʿanhāfrom it
مَن
man(one) who
لَّا
(does) not
يُؤْمِنُ
yu'minubelieve
بِهَا
bihāin it
وَٱتَّبَعَ
wa-ittabaʿaand follows
هَوَىٰهُ
hawāhuhis desires
فَتَرْدَىٰ
fatardālest you perish
١٦
(16)
So do not let one avert you from it who does not believe in it and follows his desire, for you [then] would perish.

وَمَا
wamāAnd what
تِلْكَ
til'ka(is) that
بِيَمِينِكَ
biyamīnikain your right hand
يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
yāmūsāO Musa
١٧
(17)
And what is that in your right hand, O Moses?"

قَالَ
qālaHe said
هِىَ
hiyaIt
عَصَاىَ
ʿaṣāya(is) my staff
أَتَوَكَّؤُا۟
atawakka-uI lean
عَلَيْهَا
ʿalayhāupon it
وَأَهُشُّ
wa-ahushuand I bring down leaves
بِهَا
bihāwith it
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāfor
غَنَمِى
ghanamīmy sheep
وَلِىَ
waliyaand for me
فِيهَا
fīhāin it
مَـَٔارِبُ
maāribu(are) uses
أُخْرَىٰ
ukh'rāother
١٨
(18)
He said, "It is my staff; I lean upon it, and I bring down leaves for my sheep and I have therein other uses."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
أَلْقِهَا
alqihāThrow it down
يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
yāmūsāO Musa
١٩
(19)
[Allāh] said, "Throw it down, O Moses."

فَأَلْقَىٰهَا
fa-alqāhāSo he threw it down
فَإِذَا
fa-idhāand behold
هِىَ
hiyaIt
حَيَّةٌۭ
ḥayyatun(was) a snake
تَسْعَىٰ
tasʿāmoving swiftly
٢٠
(20)
So he threw it down, and thereupon it was a snake, moving swiftly.

قَالَ
qālaHe said
خُذْهَا
khudh'hāSeize it
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تَخَفْ ۖ
takhaffear
سَنُعِيدُهَا
sanuʿīduhāWe will return it
سِيرَتَهَا
sīratahā(to) its state
ٱلْأُولَىٰ
l-ūlāthe former
٢١
(21)
[Allāh] said, "Seize it and fear not; We will return it to its former condition.

وَٱضْمُمْ
wa-uḍ'mumAnd draw near
يَدَكَ
yadakayour hand
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
جَنَاحِكَ
janāḥikayour side
تَخْرُجْ
takhrujit will come out
بَيْضَآءَ
bayḍāawhite
مِنْ
minwithout any
غَيْرِ
ghayriwithout any
سُوٓءٍ
sūindisease
ءَايَةً
āyatan(as) a sign
أُخْرَىٰ
ukh'rāanother
٢٢
(22)
And draw in your hand to your side; it will come out white without disease - another sign,

لِنُرِيَكَ
linuriyakaThat We may show you
مِنْ
minof
ءَايَـٰتِنَا
āyātināOur Signs
ٱلْكُبْرَى
l-kub'rāthe Greatest
٢٣
(23)
That We may show you [some] of Our greater signs.

ٱذْهَبْ
idh'habGo
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawnaFiraun
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, he
طَغَىٰ
ṭaghā(has) transgressed
٢٤
(24)
Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed [i.e., tyrannized]."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
رَبِّ
rabbiMy Lord
ٱشْرَحْ
ish'raḥExpand
لِى
for me
صَدْرِى
ṣadrīmy breast
٢٥
(25)
[Moses] said, "My Lord, expand [i.e., relax] for me my breast [with assurance]

وَيَسِّرْ
wayassirAnd ease
لِىٓ
for me
أَمْرِى
amrīmy task
٢٦
(26)
And ease for me my task

وَٱحْلُلْ
wa-uḥ'lulAnd untie
عُقْدَةًۭ
ʿuq'datan(the) knot
مِّن
minfrom
لِّسَانِى
lisānīmy tongue
٢٧
(27)
And untie the knot from my tongue

يَفْقَهُوا۟
yafqahūThat they may understand
قَوْلِى
qawlīmy speech
٢٨
(28)
That they may understand my speech.

وَٱجْعَل
wa-ij'ʿalAnd appoint
لِّى
for me
وَزِيرًۭا
wazīrana minister
مِّنْ
minfrom
أَهْلِى
ahlīmy family
٢٩
(29)
And appoint for me a minister [i.e., assistant] from my family -

هَـٰرُونَ
hārūnaHarun
أَخِى
akhīmy brother
٣٠
(30)
Aaron, my brother.

ٱشْدُدْ
ush'dudReinforce
بِهِۦٓ
bihithrough him
أَزْرِى
azrīmy strength
٣١
(31)
Increase through him my strength

32
وَأَشْرِكْهُ
wa-ashrik'huAnd make him share
فِىٓ
[in]
أَمْرِى
amrīmy task
٣٢
(32)
And let him share my task

كَىْ
kayThat
نُسَبِّحَكَ
nusabbiḥakawe may glorify You
كَثِيرًۭا
kathīranmuch
٣٣
(33)
That we may exalt You much

34
وَنَذْكُرَكَ
wanadhkurakaAnd [we] remember You
كَثِيرًا
kathīranmuch
٣٤
(34)
And remember You much.

35
إِنَّكَ
innakaIndeed, [You]
كُنتَ
kuntaYou are
بِنَا
bināof us
بَصِيرًۭا
baṣīranAll-Seer
٣٥
(35)
Indeed, You are of us ever Seeing."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
قَدْ
qadVerily
أُوتِيتَ
ūtītayou are granted
سُؤْلَكَ
su'lakayour request
يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
yāmūsāO Musa
٣٦
(36)
[Allāh] said, "You have been granted your request, O Moses.

وَلَقَدْ
walaqadAnd indeed
مَنَنَّا
manannāWe conferred a favor
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalaykaon you
مَرَّةً
marratananother time
أُخْرَىٰٓ
ukh'rāanother time
٣٧
(37)
And We had already conferred favor upon you another time,

إِذْ
idhWhen
أَوْحَيْنَآ
awḥaynāWe inspired
إِلَىٰٓ
ilāto
أُمِّكَ
ummikayour mother
مَا
what
يُوحَىٰٓ
yūḥāis inspired
٣٨
(38)
When We inspired to your mother what We inspired,

أَنِ
aniThat
ٱقْذِفِيهِ
iq'dhifīhicast him
فِى
in
ٱلتَّابُوتِ
l-tābūtithe chest
فَٱقْذِفِيهِ
fa-iq'dhifīhithen cast it
فِى
in
ٱلْيَمِّ
l-yamithe river
فَلْيُلْقِهِ
falyul'qihithen let cast it
ٱلْيَمُّ
l-yamuthe river
بِٱلسَّاحِلِ
bil-sāḥilion the bank
يَأْخُذْهُ
yakhudh'huwill take him
عَدُوٌّۭ
ʿaduwwunan enemy
لِّى
to Me
وَعَدُوٌّۭ
waʿaduwwunand an enemy
لَّهُۥ ۚ
lahuto him
وَأَلْقَيْتُ
wa-alqaytuAnd I cast
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalaykaover you
مَحَبَّةًۭ
maḥabbatanlove
مِّنِّى
minnīfrom Me
وَلِتُصْنَعَ
walituṣ'naʿaand that you may be brought up
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāunder
عَيْنِىٓ
ʿaynīMy eye
٣٩
(39)
[Saying], 'Cast him into the chest and cast it into the river, and the river will throw it onto the bank; there will take him an enemy to Me and an enemy to him.' And I bestowed upon you love from Me that you would be brought up under My eye [i.e., observation and care].

إِذْ

تَمْشِىٓ
tamshīwas going
أُخْتُكَ
ukh'tukayour sister
فَتَقُولُ
fataqūluand she said
هَلْ
halShall
أَدُلُّكُمْ
adullukumI show you
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā[to]
مَن
man(one) who
يَكْفُلُهُۥ ۖ
yakfuluhuwill nurse and rear him
فَرَجَعْنَـٰكَ
farajaʿnākaSo We returned you
إِلَىٰٓ
ilāto
أُمِّكَ
ummikayour mother
كَىْ
kaythat
تَقَرَّ
taqarramay be cooled
عَيْنُهَا
ʿaynuhāher eyes
وَلَا
walāand not
تَحْزَنَ ۚ
taḥzanashe grieves
وَقَتَلْتَ
waqataltaAnd you killed
نَفْسًۭا
nafsana man
فَنَجَّيْنَـٰكَ
fanajjaynākabut We saved you
مِنَ
minafrom
ٱلْغَمِّ
l-ghamithe distress
وَفَتَنَّـٰكَ
wafatannākaand We tried you
فُتُونًۭا ۚ
futūnan(with) a trial
فَلَبِثْتَ
falabith'taThen you remained
سِنِينَ
sinīna(some) years
فِىٓ
with
أَهْلِ
ahli(the) people
مَدْيَنَ
madyana(of) Madyan
ثُمَّ
thummaThen
جِئْتَ
ji'tayou came
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāat
قَدَرٍۢ
qadarinthe decreed (time)
يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
yāmūsāO Musa
٤٠
(40)
[And We favored you] when your sister went and said, 'Shall I direct you to someone who will be responsible for him?' So We restored you to your mother that she might be content and not grieve. And you killed someone, but We saved you from retaliation and tried you with a [severe] trial. And you remained [some] years among the people of Madyan. Then you came [here] at the decreed time, O Moses.

وَٱصْطَنَعْتُكَ
wa-iṣ'ṭanaʿtukaAnd I (have) chosen you
لِنَفْسِى
linafsīfor Myself
٤١
(41)
And I produced you for Myself.

ٱذْهَبْ
idh'habGo
أَنتَ
antayou
وَأَخُوكَ
wa-akhūkaand your brother
بِـَٔايَـٰتِى
biāyātīwith My Signs
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تَنِيَا
taniyāslacken
فِى
in
ذِكْرِى
dhik'rīMy remembrance
٤٢
(42)
Go, you and your brother, with My signs and do not slacken in My remembrance.

ٱذْهَبَآ
idh'habāGo, both of you
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawnaFiraun
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, he
طَغَىٰ
ṭaghā(has) transgressed
٤٣
(43)
Go, both of you, to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed.

فَقُولَا
faqūlāAnd speak
لَهُۥ
lahuto him
قَوْلًۭا
qawlana word
لَّيِّنًۭا
layyinangentle
لَّعَلَّهُۥ
laʿallahuperhaps he
يَتَذَكَّرُ
yatadhakkarumay take heed
أَوْ
awor
يَخْشَىٰ
yakhshāfear
٤٤
(44)
And speak to him with gentle speech that perhaps he may be reminded or fear [Allāh]."

قَالَا
qālāThey said
رَبَّنَآ
rabbanāOur Lord
إِنَّنَا
innanāIndeed, we
نَخَافُ
nakhāfufear
أَن
anthat
يَفْرُطَ
yafruṭahe will hasten
عَلَيْنَآ
ʿalaynāagainst us
أَوْ
awor
أَن
anthat
يَطْغَىٰ
yaṭghāhe will transgress
٤٥
(45)
They said, "Our Lord, indeed we are afraid that he will hasten [punishment] against us or that he will transgress."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
لَا
(Do) not
تَخَافَآ ۖ
takhāfāfear
إِنَّنِى
innanīIndeed, I Am
مَعَكُمَآ
maʿakumāwith you both
أَسْمَعُ
asmaʿuI hear
وَأَرَىٰ
wa-arāand I see
٤٦
(46)
[Allāh] said, "Fear not. Indeed, I am with you both; I hear and I see.

فَأْتِيَاهُ
fatiyāhuSo go to him
فَقُولَآ
faqūlāand say
إِنَّا
innāIndeed, we
رَسُولَا
rasūlāboth (are) Messengers
رَبِّكَ
rabbika(of) your Lord
فَأَرْسِلْ
fa-arsilso send
مَعَنَا
maʿanāwith us
بَنِىٓ
banī(the) Children of Israel
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ
is'rāīla(the) Children of Israel
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تُعَذِّبْهُمْ ۖ
tuʿadhib'humtorment them
قَدْ
qadVerily
جِئْنَـٰكَ
ji'nākawe came to you
بِـَٔايَةٍۢ
biāyatinwith a Sign
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّكَ ۖ
rabbikayour Lord
وَٱلسَّلَـٰمُ
wal-salāmuAnd peace
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāon
مَنِ
mani(one) who
ٱتَّبَعَ
ittabaʿafollows
ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ
l-hudāthe Guidance
٤٧
(47)
So go to him and say, 'Indeed, we are messengers of your Lord, so send with us the Children of Israel and do not torment them. We have come to you with a sign from your Lord. And peace will be upon he who follows the guidance.

إِنَّا
innāIndeed, we
قَدْ
qadverily
أُوحِىَ
ūḥiyait has been revealed
إِلَيْنَآ
ilaynāto us
أَنَّ
annathat
ٱلْعَذَابَ
l-ʿadhābathe punishment
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā(will be) on
مَن
man(one) who
كَذَّبَ
kadhabadenies
وَتَوَلَّىٰ
watawallāand turns away
٤٨
(48)
Indeed, it has been revealed to us that the punishment will be upon whoever denies and turns away.'"

qālaHe said
فَمَن
famanThen who
رَّبُّكُمَا
rabbukumā(is) your Lord
يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
yāmūsāO Musa
٤٩
(49)
[Pharaoh] said, "So who is the Lord of you two, O Moses?"

قَالَ
qālaHe said
رَبُّنَا
rabbunāOur Lord
ٱلَّذِىٓ
alladhī(is) the One Who
أَعْطَىٰ
aʿṭāgave
كُلَّ
kulla(to) every
شَىْءٍ
shayinthing
خَلْقَهُۥ
khalqahuits form
ثُمَّ
thummathen
هَدَىٰ
hadāHe guided (it)
٥٠
(50)
He said, "Our Lord is He who gave each thing its form and then guided [it]."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
فَمَا
famāThen what
بَالُ
bālu(is the) case
ٱلْقُرُونِ
l-qurūni(of) the generations
ٱلْأُولَىٰ
l-ūlā(of) the former
٥١
(51)
[Pharaoh] said, "Then what is the case of the former generations?"

عِلْمُهَا
ʿil'muhāIts knowledge
عِندَ
ʿinda(is) with
رَبِّى
rabbīmy Lord
فِى
in
كِتَـٰبٍۢ ۖ
kitābina Record
لَّا
Not
يَضِلُّ
yaḍilluerrs
رَبِّى
rabbīmy Lord
وَلَا
walāand not
يَنسَى
yansāforgets
٥٢
(52)
[Moses] said, "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord in a record. My Lord neither errs nor forgets."

ٱلَّذِى
alladhīThe One Who
جَعَلَ
jaʿalamade
لَكُمُ
lakumufor you
ٱلْأَرْضَ
l-arḍathe earth
مَهْدًۭا
mahdan(as) a bed
وَسَلَكَ
wasalakaand inserted
لَكُمْ
lakumfor you
فِيهَا
fīhātherein
سُبُلًۭا
subulanways
وَأَنزَلَ
wa-anzalaand sent down
مِنَ
minafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāithe sky
مَآءًۭ
māanwater
فَأَخْرَجْنَا
fa-akhrajnāthen We (have) brought forth
بِهِۦٓ
bihiwith it
أَزْوَٰجًۭا
azwājanpairs
مِّن
minof
نَّبَاتٍۢ
nabātinplants
شَتَّىٰ

(53)
[It is He] who has made for you the earth as a bed [spread out] and inserted therein for you roadways and sent down from the sky, rain and produced thereby categories of various plants.

كُلُوا۟
kulūEat
وَٱرْعَوْا۟
wa-ir'ʿawand pasture
أَنْعَـٰمَكُمْ ۗ
anʿāmakumyour cattle
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
فِى
in
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikathat
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ
laāyātinsurely (are) Signs
لِّأُو۟لِى
li-ulīfor possessors
ٱلنُّهَىٰ
l-nuhā(of) intelligence
٥٤
(54)
Eat [therefrom] and pasture your livestock. Indeed in that are signs for those of intelligence.

۞ مِنْهَا
min'hāFrom it
خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ
khalaqnākumWe created you
وَفِيهَا
wafīhāand in it
نُعِيدُكُمْ
nuʿīdukumWe will return you
وَمِنْهَا
wamin'hāand from it
نُخْرِجُكُمْ
nukh'rijukumWe will bring you out
تَارَةً
tāratantime
أُخْرَىٰ
ukh'rāanother
٥٥
(55)
From it [i.e., the earth] We created you, and into it We will return you, and from it We will extract you another time.

وَلَقَدْ
walaqadAnd verily
أَرَيْنَـٰهُ
araynāhuWe showed him
ءَايَـٰتِنَا
āyātināOur Signs
كُلَّهَا
kullahāall of them
فَكَذَّبَ
fakadhababut he denied
وَأَبَىٰ
wa-abāand refused
٥٦
(56)
And We certainly showed him [i.e., Pharaoh] Our signs - all of them - but he denied and refused.

قَالَ
qālaHe said
أَجِئْتَنَا
aji'tanāHave you come to us
لِتُخْرِجَنَا
litukh'rijanāto drive us out
مِنْ
minof
أَرْضِنَا
arḍināour land
بِسِحْرِكَ
bisiḥ'rikawith your magic
يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
yāmūsāO Musa
٥٧
(57)
He said, "Have you come to us to drive us out of our land with your magic, O Moses?

فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّكَ
falanatiyannakaThen we will surely produce for you
بِسِحْرٍۢ
bisiḥ'rinmagic
مِّثْلِهِۦ
mith'lihilike it
فَٱجْعَلْ
fa-ij'ʿalSo make
بَيْنَنَا
baynanābetween us
وَبَيْنَكَ
wabaynakaand between you
مَوْعِدًۭا
mawʿidanan appointment
لَّا
not
نُخْلِفُهُۥ
nukh'lifuhuwe will fail it
نَحْنُ
naḥnu[we]
وَلَآ
walāand not
أَنتَ
antayou
مَكَانًۭا
makānan(in) a place
سُوًۭى
suwaneven
٥٨
(58)
Then we will surely bring you magic like it, so make between us and you an appointment, which we will not fail to keep and neither will you, in a place assigned."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
مَوْعِدُكُمْ
mawʿidukumYour appointment
يَوْمُ
yawmu(is on the) day
ٱلزِّينَةِ
l-zīnati(of) the festival
وَأَن
wa-anand that
يُحْشَرَ
yuḥ'sharawill be assembled
ٱلنَّاسُ
l-nāsuthe people
ضُحًۭى
ḍuḥan(at) forenoon
٥٩
(59)
[Moses] said, "Your appointment is on the day of the festival when the people assemble at mid-morning."

فَتَوَلَّىٰ
fatawallāThen went away
فِرْعَوْنُ
fir'ʿawnuFiraun
فَجَمَعَ
fajamaʿaand put together
كَيْدَهُۥ
kaydahuhis plan
ثُمَّ
thummathen
أَتَىٰ
atācame
٦٠
(60)
So Pharaoh went away, put together his plan, and then came [to Moses].

قَالَ
qālaSaid
لَهُم
lahumto them
مُّوسَىٰ
mūsāMusa
وَيْلَكُمْ
waylakumWoe to you
لَا
(Do) not
تَفْتَرُوا۟
taftarūinvent
عَلَى
ʿalāagainst
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
كَذِبًۭا
kadhibana lie
فَيُسْحِتَكُم
fayus'ḥitakumlest He will destroy you
بِعَذَابٍۢ ۖ
biʿadhābinwith a punishment
وَقَدْ
waqadAnd verily
خَابَ
khābahe failed
مَنِ
maniwho
ٱفْتَرَىٰ
if'tarāinvented
٦١
(61)
Moses said to them [i.e., the magicians summoned by Pharaoh], "Woe to you! Do not invent a lie against Allāh or He will exterminate you with a punishment; and he has failed who invents [such falsehood]."

فَتَنَـٰزَعُوٓا۟
fatanāzaʿūThen they disputed
أَمْرَهُم
amrahum(in) their affair
بَيْنَهُمْ
baynahumamong them
وَأَسَرُّوا۟
wa-asarrūand they kept secret
ٱلنَّجْوَىٰ
l-najwāthe private conversation
٦٢
(62)
So they disputed over their affair among themselves and concealed their private conversation.

قَالُوٓا۟
qālūThey said
إِنْ
inIndeed
هَـٰذَٰنِ
hādhānithese two
لَسَـٰحِرَٰنِ
lasāḥirāni[two] magicians
يُرِيدَانِ
yurīdānithey intend
أَن
anthat
يُخْرِجَاكُم
yukh'rijākumthey drive you out
مِّنْ
minof
أَرْضِكُم
arḍikumyour land
بِسِحْرِهِمَا
bisiḥ'rihimāwith their magic
وَيَذْهَبَا
wayadhhabāand do away
بِطَرِيقَتِكُمُ
biṭarīqatikumuwith your way
ٱلْمُثْلَىٰ
l-muth'lāthe exemplary
٦٣
(63)
They said, "Indeed, these are two magicians who want to drive you out of your land with their magic and do away with your most exemplary way [i.e., religion or tradition].

فَأَجْمِعُوا۟
fa-ajmiʿūSo put together
كَيْدَكُمْ
kaydakumyour plan
ثُمَّ
thummathen
ٱئْتُوا۟
i'tūcome
صَفًّۭا ۚ
ṣaffan(in) a line
وَقَدْ
waqadAnd verily
أَفْلَحَ
aflaḥa(will be) successful
ٱلْيَوْمَ
l-yawmatoday
مَنِ
maniwho
ٱسْتَعْلَىٰ
is'taʿlāovercomes
٦٤
(64)
So resolve upon your plan and then come [forward] in line. And he has succeeded today who overcomes."

قَالُوا۟
qālūThey said
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ
yāmūsāO Musa
إِمَّآ
immāEither
أَن
an[that]
تُلْقِىَ
tul'qiyayou throw
وَإِمَّآ
wa-immāor
أَن
an[that]
نَّكُونَ
nakūnawe will be
أَوَّلَ
awwalathe first
مَنْ
manwho
أَلْقَىٰ
alqāthrows
٦٥
(65)
They said, "O Moses, either you throw or we will be the first to throw."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
بَلْ
balNay
أَلْقُوا۟ ۖ
alqūyou throw
فَإِذَا
fa-idhāThen behold
حِبَالُهُمْ
ḥibāluhumTheir ropes
وَعِصِيُّهُمْ
waʿiṣiyyuhumand their staffs
يُخَيَّلُ
yukhayyaluseemed
إِلَيْهِ
ilayhito him
مِن
minby
سِحْرِهِمْ
siḥ'rihimtheir magic
أَنَّهَا
annahāthat they
تَسْعَىٰ
tasʿā(were) moving
٦٦
(66)
He said, "Rather, you throw." And suddenly their ropes and staffs seemed to him from their magic that they were moving [like snakes].

فَأَوْجَسَ
fa-awjasaSo sensed
فِى
in
نَفْسِهِۦ
nafsihihimself
خِيفَةًۭ
khīfatana fear
مُّوسَىٰ
mūsāMusa
٦٧
(67)
And he sensed within himself apprehension, did Moses.

قُلْنَا
qul'nāWe said
لَا
(Do) not
تَخَفْ
takhaffear
إِنَّكَ
innakaIndeed, you
أَنتَ
antayou
ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
l-aʿlā(will be) superior
٦٨
(68)
We [i.e., Allāh] said, "Fear not. Indeed, it is you who are superior.

وَأَلْقِ
wa-alqiAnd throw
مَا
what
فِى
(is) in
يَمِينِكَ
yamīnikayour right hand
تَلْقَفْ
talqafit will swallow up
مَا
what
صَنَعُوٓا۟ ۖ
ṣanaʿūthey have made
إِنَّمَا
innamāOnly
صَنَعُوا۟
ṣanaʿūthey (have) made
كَيْدُ
kaydua trick
سَـٰحِرٍۢ ۖ
sāḥirin(of) a magician
وَلَا
walāand not
يُفْلِحُ
yuf'liḥuwill be successful
ٱلسَّاحِرُ
l-sāḥiruthe magician
حَيْثُ
ḥaythuwherever
أَتَىٰ
atāhe comes
٦٩
(69)
And throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow up what they have crafted. What they have crafted is but the trick of a magician, and the magician will not succeed wherever he is."

فَأُلْقِىَ
fa-ul'qiyaSo were thrown down
ٱلسَّحَرَةُ
l-saḥaratuthe magicians
سُجَّدًۭا
sujjadanprostrating
قَالُوٓا۟
qālūThey said
ءَامَنَّا
āmannāWe believe
بِرَبِّ
birabbiin (the) Lord
هَـٰرُونَ
hārūna(of) Harun
وَمُوسَىٰ
wamūsāand Musa
٧٠
(70)
So the magicians fell down in prostration. They said, "We have believed in the Lord of Aaron and Moses."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
ءَامَنتُمْ
āmantumYou believe
لَهُۥ
lahu[to] him
قَبْلَ
qablabefore
أَنْ
an[that]
ءَاذَنَ
ādhanaI gave permission
لَكُمْ ۖ
lakumto you
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, he
لَكَبِيرُكُمُ
lakabīrukumu(is) your chief
ٱلَّذِى
alladhīthe one who
عَلَّمَكُمُ
ʿallamakumutaught you
ٱلسِّحْرَ ۖ
l-siḥ'rathe magic
فَلَأُقَطِّعَنَّ
fala-uqaṭṭiʿannaSo surely I will cut off
أَيْدِيَكُمْ
aydiyakumyour hands
وَأَرْجُلَكُم
wa-arjulakumand your feet
مِّنْ
minof
خِلَـٰفٍۢ
khilāfinopposite sides
وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ
wala-uṣallibannakumand surely I will crucify you
فِى
on
جُذُوعِ
judhūʿi(the) trunks
ٱلنَّخْلِ
l-nakhli(of) date-palms
وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ
walataʿlamunnaand surely you will know
أَيُّنَآ
ayyunāwhich of us
أَشَدُّ
ashaddu(is) more severe
عَذَابًۭا
ʿadhāban(in) punishment
وَأَبْقَىٰ
wa-abqāand more lasting
٧١
(71)
[Pharaoh] said, "You believed him [i.e., Moses] before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic. So I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you on the trunks of palm trees, and you will surely know which of us is more severe in [giving] punishment and more enduring."

قَالُوا۟
qālūThey said
لَن
lanNever
نُّؤْثِرَكَ
nu'thirakawe will prefer you
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāover
مَا
what
جَآءَنَا
jāanāhas come to us
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ
l-bayinātithe clear proofs
وَٱلَّذِى
wa-alladhīand the One Who
فَطَرَنَا ۖ
faṭaranācreated us
فَٱقْضِ
fa-iq'ḍiSo decree
مَآ
whatever
أَنتَ
antayou
قَاضٍ ۖ
qāḍin(are) decreeing
إِنَّمَا
innamāOnly
تَقْضِى
taqḍīyou can decree
هَـٰذِهِ
hādhihi(for) this
ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ
l-ḥayatalife
ٱلدُّنْيَآ
l-dun'yā(of) the world
٧٢
(72)
They said, "Never will we prefer you over what has come to us of clear proofs and [over] He who created us. So decree whatever you are to decree. You can only decree for this worldly life.

إِنَّآ
innāIndeed, [we]
ءَامَنَّا
āmannāwe believe
بِرَبِّنَا
birabbināin our Lord
لِيَغْفِرَ
liyaghfirathat He may forgive
لَنَا
lanāfor us
خَطَـٰيَـٰنَا
khaṭāyānāour sins
وَمَآ
wamāand what
أَكْرَهْتَنَا
akrahtanāyou compelled us
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhion it
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلسِّحْرِ ۗ
l-siḥ'rithe magic
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahuAnd Allah
خَيْرٌۭ
khayrun(is) Best
وَأَبْقَىٰٓ
wa-abqāand Ever Lasting
٧٣
(73)
Indeed, we have believed in our Lord that He may forgive us our sins and what you compelled us [to do] of magic. And Allāh is better and more enduring."

إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, he
مَن
manwho
يَأْتِ
yaticomes
رَبَّهُۥ
rabbahu(to) his Lord
مُجْرِمًۭا
muj'riman(as) a criminal
فَإِنَّ
fa-innathen indeed
لَهُۥ
lahufor him
جَهَنَّمَ
jahannama(is) Hell
لَا
Not
يَمُوتُ
yamūtuhe will die
فِيهَا
fīhāin it
وَلَا
walāand not
يَحْيَىٰ
yaḥyālive
٧٤
(74)
Indeed, whoever comes to his Lord as a criminal - indeed, for him is Hell; he will neither die therein nor live.

وَمَن
wamanBut whoever
يَأْتِهِۦ
yatihicomes to Him
مُؤْمِنًۭا
mu'minan(as) a believer
قَدْ
qadverily
عَمِلَ
ʿamilahe has done
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥātithe righteous deeds
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
fa-ulāikathen those
لَهُمُ
lahumufor them
ٱلدَّرَجَـٰتُ
l-darajātu(will be) the ranks
ٱلْعُلَىٰ
l-ʿulā[the] high
٧٥
(75)
But whoever comes to Him as a believer having done righteous deeds - for those will be the highest degrees [in position]:

جَنَّـٰتُ
jannātuGardens
عَدْنٍۢ
ʿadnin(of) Eden
تَجْرِى
tajrīflows
مِن
minfrom
تَحْتِهَا
taḥtihāunderneath them
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ
l-anhāruthe rivers
خَـٰلِدِينَ
khālidīnaabiding forever
فِيهَا ۚ
fīhāin it
وَذَٰلِكَ
wadhālikaAnd that
جَزَآءُ
jazāu(is) the reward
مَن
man(for him) who
تَزَكَّىٰ
tazakkāpurifies himself
٧٦
(76)
Gardens of perpetual residence beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. And that is the reward of one who purifies himself.

وَلَقَدْ
walaqadAnd verily
أَوْحَيْنَآ
awḥaynāWe inspired
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
مُوسَىٰٓ
mūsāMusa
أَنْ
anthat
أَسْرِ
asriTravel by night
بِعِبَادِى
biʿibādīwith My slaves
فَٱضْرِبْ
fa-iḍ'riband strike
لَهُمْ
lahumfor them
طَرِيقًۭا
ṭarīqana path
فِى
in
ٱلْبَحْرِ
l-baḥrithe sea
يَبَسًۭا
yabasandry
لَّا
not
تَخَـٰفُ
takhāfufearing
دَرَكًۭا
darakanto be overtaken
وَلَا
walāand not
تَخْشَىٰ
takhshābeing afraid
٧٧
(77)
And We had inspired to Moses, "Travel by night with My servants and strike for them a dry path through the sea; you will not fear being overtaken [by Pharaoh] nor be afraid [of drowning]."

فَأَتْبَعَهُمْ
fa-atbaʿahumThen followed them
فِرْعَوْنُ
fir'ʿawnuFiraun
بِجُنُودِهِۦ
bijunūdihiwith his forces
فَغَشِيَهُم
faghashiyahumbut covered them
مِّنَ
minafrom
ٱلْيَمِّ
l-yamithe sea
مَا
what
غَشِيَهُمْ
ghashiyahumcovered them
٧٨
(78)
So Pharaoh pursued them with his soldiers, and there covered them from the sea that which covered them,

وَأَضَلَّ
wa-aḍallaAnd led astray
فِرْعَوْنُ
fir'ʿawnuFiraun
قَوْمَهُۥ
qawmahuhis people
وَمَا
wamāand (did) not
هَدَىٰ
hadāguide them
٧٩
(79)
And Pharaoh led his people astray and did not guide [them].

يَـٰبَنِىٓ
yābanīO Children of Israel
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ
is'rāīlaO Children of Israel
قَدْ
qadVerily
أَنجَيْنَـٰكُم
anjaynākumWe delivered you
مِّنْ
minfrom
عَدُوِّكُمْ
ʿaduwwikumyour enemy
وَوَٰعَدْنَـٰكُمْ
wawāʿadnākumand We made a covenant with you
جَانِبَ
jānibaon (the) side
ٱلطُّورِ
l-ṭūri(of) the Mount
ٱلْأَيْمَنَ
l-aymanathe right
وَنَزَّلْنَا
wanazzalnāand We sent down
عَلَيْكُمُ
ʿalaykumuto you
ٱلْمَنَّ
l-manathe Manna
وَٱلسَّلْوَىٰ
wal-salwāand the quails
٨٠
(80)
O Children of Israel, We delivered you from your enemy, and We made an appointment with you at the right side of the mount, and We sent down to you manna and quails,

كُلُوا۟
kulūEat
مِن
minof
طَيِّبَـٰتِ
ṭayyibāti(the) good things
مَا
which
رَزَقْنَـٰكُمْ
razaqnākumWe have provided you
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تَطْغَوْا۟
taṭghawtransgress
فِيهِ
fīhitherein
فَيَحِلَّ
fayaḥillalest should descend
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykumupon you
غَضَبِى ۖ
ghaḍabīMy Anger
وَمَن
wamanAnd whoever
يَحْلِلْ
yaḥlilon whom descends
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhion whom descends
غَضَبِى
ghaḍabīMy Anger
فَقَدْ
faqadindeed
هَوَىٰ
hawāhe (has) perished
٨١
(81)
[Saying], "Eat from the good things with which We have provided you and do not transgress [or oppress others] therein, lest My anger should descend upon you. And he upon whom My anger descends has certainly fallen [i.e., perished]."

وَإِنِّى
wa-innīBut indeed, I Am
لَغَفَّارٌۭ
laghaffārunthe Perpetual Forgiver
لِّمَن
limanof whoever
تَابَ
tābarepents
وَءَامَنَ
waāmanaand believes
وَعَمِلَ
waʿamilaand does
صَـٰلِحًۭا
ṣāliḥanrighteous (deeds)
ثُمَّ
thummathen
ٱهْتَدَىٰ
ih'tadāremains guided
٨٢
(82)
But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.

۞ وَمَآ
wamāAnd what
أَعْجَلَكَ
aʿjalakamade you hasten
عَن
ʿanfrom
قَوْمِكَ
qawmikayour people
يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
yāmūsāO Musa
٨٣
(83)
[Allāh said], "And what made you hasten from your people, O Moses?"

قَالَ
qālaHe said
هُمْ
humThey
أُو۟لَآءِ
ulāi(are) close
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalāupon
أَثَرِى
atharīmy tracks
وَعَجِلْتُ
waʿajil'tuand I hastened
إِلَيْكَ
ilaykato you
رَبِّ
rabbimy Lord
لِتَرْضَىٰ
litarḍāthat You be pleased
٨٤
(84)
He said, "They are close upon my tracks, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
فَإِنَّا
fa-innāBut indeed, We
قَدْ
qad[verily]
فَتَنَّا
fatannāWe (have) tried
قَوْمَكَ
qawmakayour people
مِنۢ
minafter you
بَعْدِكَ
baʿdikaafter you
وَأَضَلَّهُمُ
wa-aḍallahumuand has led them astray
ٱلسَّامِرِىُّ
l-sāmiriyuthe Samiri
٨٥
(85)
[Allāh] said, "But indeed, We have tried your people after you [departed], and the Sāmirī has led them astray."

فَرَجَعَ
farajaʿaThen Musa returned
مُوسَىٰٓ
mūsāThen Musa returned
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
قَوْمِهِۦ
qawmihihis people
غَضْبَـٰنَ
ghaḍbānaangry
أَسِفًۭا ۚ
asifan(and) sorrowful
قَالَ
qālaHe said
يَـٰقَوْمِ
yāqawmiO my people
أَلَمْ
alamDid not
يَعِدْكُمْ
yaʿid'kumpromise you
رَبُّكُمْ
rabbukumyour Lord
وَعْدًا
waʿdana promise
حَسَنًا ۚ
ḥasanangood
أَفَطَالَ
afaṭālaThen, did seem long
عَلَيْكُمُ
ʿalaykumuto you
ٱلْعَهْدُ
l-ʿahduthe promise
أَمْ
amor
أَرَدتُّمْ
aradttumdid you desire
أَن
anthat
يَحِلَّ
yaḥilladescend
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykumupon you
غَضَبٌۭ
ghaḍabun(the) Anger
مِّن
minof
رَّبِّكُمْ
rabbikumyour Lord
فَأَخْلَفْتُم
fa-akhlaftumso you broke
مَّوْعِدِى
mawʿidī(the) promise to me
٨٦
(86)
So Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved. He said, "O my people, did your Lord not make you a good promise? Then, was the time [of its fulfillment] too long for you, or did you wish that wrath from your Lord descend upon you, so you broke your promise [of obedience] to me?"

مَآ
Not
أَخْلَفْنَا
akhlafnāwe broke
مَوْعِدَكَ
mawʿidakapromise to you
بِمَلْكِنَا
bimalkināby our will
وَلَـٰكِنَّا
walākinnābut we
حُمِّلْنَآ
ḥummil'nā[we] were made to carry
أَوْزَارًۭا
awzāranburdens
مِّن
minfrom
زِينَةِ
zīnatiornaments
ٱلْقَوْمِ
l-qawmi(of) the people
فَقَذَفْنَـٰهَا
faqadhafnāhāso we threw them
فَكَذَٰلِكَ
fakadhālikaand thus
أَلْقَى
alqāthrew
ٱلسَّامِرِىُّ
l-sāmiriyuthe Samiri
٨٧
(87)
They said, "We did not break our promise to you by our will, but we were made to carry burdens from the ornaments of the people [of Pharaoh], so we threw them [into the fire], and thus did the Sāmirī throw."

إِلَـٰهُكُمْ

وَإِلَـٰهُ
wa-ilāhuand the god
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā(of) Musa
فَنَسِىَ
fanasiyabut he forgot

(88)
And he extracted for them [the statue of] a calf which had a lowing sound, and they said, "This is your god and the god of Moses, but he forgot."

Did they not see that it could not return to them any speech [i.e., response] and that it did not possess for them any harm or benefit?

فُتِنتُم

بِهِۦ ۖ

وَإِنَّ
wa-innaand indeed
رَبَّكُمُ
rabbakumuyour Lord
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ
l-raḥmānu(is) the Most Gracious
فَٱتَّبِعُونِى
fa-ittabiʿūnīso follow me
وَأَطِيعُوٓا۟
wa-aṭīʿūand obey
أَمْرِى
amrīmy order
٩٠
(90)
And Aaron had already told them before [the return of Moses], "O my people, you are only being tested by it, and indeed, your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my order."

عَلَيْهِ

يَرْجِعَ

إِلَيْنَا
ilaynāto us
مُوسَىٰ

They said, "We will never cease being devoted to it [i.e., the calf] until Moses returns to us."

[Moses] said, "O Aaron, what prevented you, when you saw them going astray,

خَشِيتُ
khashītu[I] feared

فَرَّقْتَ
farraqtaYou caused division
بَيْنَ
baynabetween
بَنِىٓ
banī(the) Children of Israel
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ
is'rāīla(the) Children of Israel
وَلَمْ
walamand not
تَرْقُبْ
tarqubyou respect
قَوْلِى
qawlīmy word
٩٤
(94)
[Aaron] said, "O son of my mother, do not seize [me] by my beard or by my head. Indeed, I feared that you would say, 'You caused division among the Children of Israel, and you did not observe [or await] my word.'"

قَبْضَةًۭ
qabḍatana handful
مِّنْ

أَثَرِ
athari(the) track
ٱلرَّسُولِ
l-rasūli(of) the Messenger
فَنَبَذْتُهَا
fanabadhtuhāthen threw it
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālikaand thus
سَوَّلَتْ
sawwalatsuggested
لِى
to me
نَفْسِى
nafsīmy soul
٩٦
(96)
He said, "I saw what they did not see, so I took a handful [of dust] from the track of the messenger and threw it, and thus did my soul entice me."

فَإِنَّ

لَكَ

ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ

taqūlayou will say
لَا
(Do) not
مِسَاسَ ۖ
misāsatouch
وَإِنَّ
wa-innaAnd indeed
لَكَ
lakafor you
مَوْعِدًۭا
mawʿidan(is) an appointment
لَّن
lannever
تُخْلَفَهُۥ ۖ
tukh'lafahuyou will fail to (keep) it
وَٱنظُرْ
wa-unẓurAnd look
إِلَىٰٓ
ilāat
إِلَـٰهِكَ
ilāhikayour god
ٱلَّذِى
alladhīthat which
ظَلْتَ
ẓaltayou have remained
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhito it
عَاكِفًۭا ۖ
ʿākifandevoted
لَّنُحَرِّقَنَّهُۥ
lanuḥarriqannahuSurely we will burn it
ثُمَّ
thummathen
لَنَنسِفَنَّهُۥ
lanansifannahucertainly we will scatter it
فِى
in
ٱلْيَمِّ
l-yamithe sea
نَسْفًا
nasfan(in) particles
٩٧
(97)
[Moses] said, "Then go. And indeed, it is [decreed] for you in [this] life to say, 'No contact.' And indeed, you have an appointment [in the Hereafter] you will not fail to keep. And look at your 'god' to which you remained devoted. We will surely burn it and blow it [i.e., its ashes] into the sea with a blast.

هُوَ ۚ

وَسِعَ
wasiʿaHe has encompassed
كُلَّ

شَىْءٍ
shayinthings
عِلْمًۭا
ʿil'man(in) knowledge

Your god is only Allāh, except for whom there is no deity. He has encompassed all things in knowledge."

سَبَقَ ۚ

وَقَدْ
waqadAnd certainly
ءَاتَيْنَـٰكَ
ātaynākaWe have given you

minfrom
لَّدُنَّا
ladunnāUs
ذِكْرًۭا
dhik'rana Reminder

Thus, [O Muḥammad], We relate to you from the news of what has preceded. And We have certainly given you from Us a message [i.e., the Qur’ān].

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati(of) Resurrection
وِزْرًا
wiz'rana burden

Whoever turns away from it - then indeed, he will bear on the Day of Resurrection a burden [i.e., great sin],

[Abiding] eternally therein, and evil it is for them on the Day of Resurrection as a load -

وَنَحْشُرُ

l-muj'rimīnathe criminals
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ
yawma-idhinthat Day
زُرْقًۭا
zur'qanblue-eyed

The Day the Horn will be blown. And We will gather the criminals, that Day, blue-eyed.

They will murmur among themselves, "You remained not but ten [days in the world]."

We are most knowing of what they say when the best of them in manner [i.e., wisdom or speech] will say, "You remained not but one day."

عَنِ

ٱلْجِبَالِ
l-jibālithe mountains
فَقُلْ
faqulso say
يَنسِفُهَا
yansifuhāWill blast them
رَبِّى
rabbīmy Lord
نَسْفًۭا
nasfan(into) particles
١٠٥
(105)
And they ask you about the mountains, so say, "My Lord will blow them away with a blast.

And He will leave it [i.e., the earth] a level plain;

You will not see therein a depression or an elevation."

لَهُۥ ۖ
lahufrom it
وَخَشَعَتِ
wakhashaʿatiAnd (will be) humbled
ٱلْأَصْوَاتُ
l-aṣwātuthe voices
لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ
lilrraḥmānifor the Most Gracious
فَلَا
falāso not
تَسْمَعُ
tasmaʿuyou will hear
إِلَّا
illāexcept
هَمْسًۭا
hamsana faint sound
١٠٨
(108)
That Day, they [i.e., everyone] will follow [the call of] the Caller [with] no deviation therefrom, and [all] voices will be stilled before the Most Merciful, so you will not hear except a whisper [of footsteps].

ٱلشَّفَـٰعَةُ

أَذِنَ
adhinahas given permission
لَهُ
lahu[to him]
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ
l-raḥmānuthe Most Gracious
وَرَضِىَ
waraḍiyaand He has accepted
لَهُۥ
lahufor him
قَوْلًۭا
qawlana word
١٠٩
(109)
That Day, no intercession will benefit except [that of] one to whom the Most Merciful has given permission and has accepted his word.

أَيْدِيهِمْ
aydīhim(is) before them
وَمَا
wamāand what
خَلْفَهُمْ

walāwhile not
يُحِيطُونَ
yuḥīṭūnathey encompass
بِهِۦ
bihiit
عِلْمًۭا
ʿil'man(in) knowledge
١١٠
(110)
He [i.e., Allāh] knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, but they do not encompass it [i.e., what He knows] in knowledge.

۞ وَعَنَتِ
waʿanatiAnd (will be) humbled
ٱلْوُجُوهُ
l-wujūhuthe faces
لِلْحَىِّ
lil'ḥayyibefore the Ever-Living
ٱلْقَيُّومِ ۖ
l-qayūmithe Self-Subsisting
وَقَدْ
waqadAnd verily
خَابَ
khābawill have failed
مَنْ
man(he) who
حَمَلَ
ḥamalacarried
ظُلْمًۭا
ẓul'manwrongdoing
١١١
(111)
And [all] faces will be humbled before the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining. And he will have failed who carries injustice.

wamanBut (he) who
يَعْمَلْ
yaʿmaldoes
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥātithe righteous deeds
وَهُوَ
wahuwawhile he
مُؤْمِنٌۭ
mu'minun(is) a believer
فَلَا
falāthen not
يَخَافُ
yakhāfuhe will fear
ظُلْمًۭا
ẓul'maninjustice
وَلَا
walāand not
هَضْمًۭا
haḍmandeprivation
١١٢
(112)
But he who does of righteous deeds while he is a believer - he will neither fear injustice nor deprivation.

وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālikaAnd thus
أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ
anzalnāhuWe have sent it down
قُرْءَانًا
qur'ānan(the) Quran
عَرَبِيًّۭا
ʿarabiyyan(in) Arabic
وَصَرَّفْنَا
waṣarrafnāand We have explained
فِيهِ
fīhiin it
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْوَعِيدِ
l-waʿīdithe warnings
لَعَلَّهُمْ
laʿallahumthat they may
يَتَّقُونَ
yattaqūnafear
أَوْ
awor
يُحْدِثُ
yuḥ'dithuit may cause
لَهُمْ
lahum[for] them
ذِكْرًۭا
dhik'ranremembrance
١١٣
(113)
And thus We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’ān and have diversified therein the warnings that perhaps they will avoid [sin] or it would cause them remembrance.

ٱلْحَقُّ ۗ

walāAnd (do) not
تَعْجَلْ
taʿjalhasten
بِٱلْقُرْءَانِ
bil-qur'āniwith the Quran
مِن
minbefore
قَبْلِ
qablibefore
أَن
an[that]
يُقْضَىٰٓ
yuq'ḍāis completed
إِلَيْكَ
ilaykato you
وَحْيُهُۥ ۖ
waḥyuhuits revelation
وَقُل
waquland say
رَّبِّ
rabbiMy Lord
زِدْنِى
zid'nīIncrease me
عِلْمًۭا
ʿil'man(in) knowledge
١١٤
(114)
So high [above all] is Allāh, the Sovereign, the Truth. And, [O Muḥammad], do not hasten with [recitation of] the Qur’ān before its revelation is completed to you, and say, "My Lord, increase me in knowledge."

عَهِدْنَآ
ʿahid'nāWe made a covenant
إِلَىٰٓ

ءَادَمَ
ādamaAdam

fanasiyabut he forgot
وَلَمْ
walamand not
نَجِدْ
najidWe found
لَهُۥ
lahuin him
عَزْمًۭا
ʿazmandetermination

(115)
And We had already taken a promise from Adam before, but he forgot; and We found not in him determination.

قُلْنَا

لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ
lil'malāikatito the Angels
ٱسْجُدُوا۟
us'judūProstrate
لِـَٔادَمَ

فَسَجَدُوٓا۟
fasajadūthen they prostrated
إِلَّآ
illāexcept
إِبْلِيسَ
ib'līsaIblis
أَبَىٰ
abāhe refused
١١٦
(116)
And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except Iblees; he refused.

يَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ
yāādamuO Adam
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
هَـٰذَا

عَدُوٌّۭ
ʿaduwwun(is) an enemy
لَّكَ
lakato you
وَلِزَوْجِكَ
walizawjikaand to your wife
فَلَا
falāSo not
يُخْرِجَنَّكُمَا
yukh'rijannakumā(let) him drive you both
مِنَ
minafrom
ٱلْجَنَّةِ
l-janatiParadise
فَتَشْقَىٰٓ
fatashqāso (that) you would suffer
١١٧
(117)
So We said, "O Adam, indeed this is an enemy to you and to your wife. Then let him not remove you from Paradise so you would suffer.

tajūʿayou will be hungry
فِيهَا

وَلَا

تَعْرَىٰ

(118)
Indeed, it is [promised] for you not to be hungry therein or be unclothed.

وَأَنَّكَ
wa-annakaAnd that you
لَا
not
تَظْمَؤُا۟
taẓma-uwill suffer from thirst
فِيهَا
fīhātherein
وَلَا
walāand not
تَضْحَىٰ
taḍḥāexposed to the sun's heat

(119)
And indeed, you will not be thirsty therein or be hot from the sun."

فَوَسْوَسَ
fawaswasaThen whispered
إِلَيْهِ
ilayhito him
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ
l-shayṭānuShaitaan
قَالَ
qālahe said
يَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ
yāādamuO Adam
هَلْ
halShall
أَدُلُّكَ
adullukaI direct you
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāto
شَجَرَةِ
shajarati(the) tree
ٱلْخُلْدِ
l-khul'di(of) the Eternity
وَمُلْكٍۢ
wamul'kinand a kingdom
لَّا
not
يَبْلَىٰ
yablā(that will) deteriorate
١٢٠
(120)
Then Satan whispered to him; he said, "O Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of eternity and possession that will not deteriorate?"

فَأَكَلَا
fa-akalāThen they both ate
مِنْهَا
min'hāfrom it
فَبَدَتْ
fabadatso became apparent
لَهُمَا
lahumāto them
سَوْءَٰتُهُمَا
sawātuhumātheir shame
وَطَفِقَا
waṭafiqāand they began
يَخْصِفَانِ
yakhṣifāni(to) fasten
عَلَيْهِمَا
ʿalayhimāon themselves
مِن
minfrom
وَرَقِ
waraqi(the) leaves
ٱلْجَنَّةِ ۚ
l-janati(of) Paradise
وَعَصَىٰٓ
waʿaṣāAnd Adam disobeyed
ءَادَمُ
ādamuAnd Adam disobeyed
رَبَّهُۥ
rabbahuhis Lord
فَغَوَىٰ
faghawāand erred
١٢١
(121)
And they [i.e., Adam and his wife] ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred.

ٱجْتَبَـٰهُ
ij'tabāhuchose him
رَبُّهُۥ

فَتَابَ
fatābaand turned
عَلَيْهِ

وَهَدَىٰ
wahadāand guided (him)
١٢٢
(122)
Then his Lord chose him and turned to him in forgiveness and guided [him].

مِنْهَا

جَمِيعًۢا ۖ

بَعْضُكُمْ

libaʿḍinto others
عَدُوٌّۭ ۖ
ʿaduwwun(as) enemy
فَإِمَّا
fa-immāThen if
يَأْتِيَنَّكُم
yatiyannakumcomes to you
مِّنِّى
minnīfrom Me
هُدًۭى
hudanguidance
فَمَنِ
famanithen whoever
ٱتَّبَعَ
ittabaʿafollows
هُدَاىَ
hudāyaMy guidance
فَلَا
falāthen not
يَضِلُّ
yaḍilluhe will go astray
وَلَا
walāand not
يَشْقَىٰ
yashqāsuffer
١٢٣
(123)
[Allāh] said, "Descend from it [i.e., Paradise] - all, [your descendants] being enemies to one another. And if there should come to you guidance from Me - then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter].

ʿanfrom
ذِكْرِى
dhik'rīMy remembrance
فَإِنَّ
fa-innathen indeed
لَهُۥ
lahufor him
مَعِيشَةًۭ
maʿīshatan(is) a life
ضَنكًۭا
ḍankanstraitened
وَنَحْشُرُهُۥ
wanaḥshuruhuand We will gather him
يَوْمَ
yawma(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
أَعْمَىٰ
aʿmāblind
١٢٤
(124)
And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed [i.e., difficult] life, and We will gather [i.e., raise] him on the Day of Resurrection blind."

قَالَ
qālaHe will say
رَبِّ
rabbiMy Lord
لِمَ
limaWhy
حَشَرْتَنِىٓ
ḥashartanīYou raised me
أَعْمَىٰ
aʿmāblind
وَقَدْ
waqadwhile [verily]
كُنتُ
kuntuI had
بَصِيرًۭا
baṣīransight
١٢٥
(125)
He will say, "My Lord, why have you raised me blind while I was [once] seeing?"

قَالَ
qālaHe will say
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālikaThus
أَتَتْكَ
atatkacame to you
ءَايَـٰتُنَا
āyātunāOur Signs
فَنَسِيتَهَا ۖ
fanasītahābut you forgot them
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālikaand thus
ٱلْيَوْمَ
l-yawmatoday
تُنسَىٰ
tunsāyou will be forgotten
١٢٦
(126)
[Allāh] will say, "Thus did Our signs come to you, and you forgot [i.e., disregarded] them; and thus will you this Day be forgotten."

وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālikaAnd thus
نَجْزِى
najzīWe recompense
مَنْ
man(he) who
أَسْرَفَ
asrafatransgresses
وَلَمْ
walamand not
يُؤْمِنۢ
yu'minbelieves
بِـَٔايَـٰتِ
biāyātiin (the) Signs
رَبِّهِۦ ۚ
rabbihi(of) his Lord
وَلَعَذَابُ
walaʿadhābuAnd surely (the) punishment
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
l-ākhirati(of) the Hereafter
أَشَدُّ
ashaddu(is) more severe
وَأَبْقَىٰٓ
wa-abqāand more lasting
١٢٧
(127)
And thus do We recompense he who transgressed and did not believe in the signs of his Lord. And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more enduring.

أَفَلَمْ
afalamThen has not
يَهْدِ
yahdiit guided
لَهُمْ
lahum[for] them
كَمْ
kamhow many
أَهْلَكْنَا
ahlaknāWe (have) destroyed
قَبْلَهُم
qablahumbefore them
مِّنَ
minaof
ٱلْقُرُونِ
l-qurūnithe generations
يَمْشُونَ
yamshūna(as) they walk
فِى
in
مَسَـٰكِنِهِمْ ۗ
masākinihimtheir dwellings
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
فِى
in
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikathat
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ
laāyātinsurely (are) Signs
لِّأُو۟لِى
li-ulīfor possessors
ٱلنُّهَىٰ
l-nuhā(of) intelligence
١٢٨
(128)
Then, has it not become clear to them how many generations We destroyed before them as they walk among their dwellings? Indeed in that are signs for those of intelligence.

وَلَوْلَا
walawlāAnd if not
كَلِمَةٌۭ
kalimatun(for) a Word
سَبَقَتْ
sabaqat(that) preceded
مِن
minfrom
رَّبِّكَ
rabbikayour Lord
لَكَانَ
lakānasurely (would) have been
لِزَامًۭا
lizāmanan obligation
وَأَجَلٌۭ
wa-ajalunand a term
مُّسَمًّۭى
musammandetermined
١٢٩
(129)
And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord, it [i.e., punishment] would have been an obligation [due immediately], and [if not for] a specified term [decreed].

فَٱصْبِرْ
fa-iṣ'birSo be patient
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāover
مَا
what
يَقُولُونَ
yaqūlūnathey say
وَسَبِّحْ
wasabbiḥand glorify
بِحَمْدِ
biḥamdiwith praise
رَبِّكَ
rabbika(of) your Lord
قَبْلَ
qablabefore
طُلُوعِ
ṭulūʿi(the) rising
ٱلشَّمْسِ
l-shamsi(of) the sun
وَقَبْلَ
waqablaand before
غُرُوبِهَا ۖ
ghurūbihāits setting
وَمِنْ
waminand from
ءَانَآئِ
ānāi(the) hours
ٱلَّيْلِ
al-layli(of) the night
فَسَبِّحْ
fasabbiḥand glorify
وَأَطْرَافَ
wa-aṭrāfa(at the) ends
ٱلنَّهَارِ
l-nahāri(of) the day
لَعَلَّكَ
laʿallakaso that you may
تَرْضَىٰ
tarḍābe satisfied
١٣٠
(130)
So be patient over what they say and exalt [Allāh] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting; and during periods of the night [exalt Him] and at the ends of the day, that you may be satisfied.

وَلَا
walāAnd (do) not
تَمُدَّنَّ
tamuddannaextend
عَيْنَيْكَ
ʿaynaykayour eyes
إِلَىٰ
ilātowards
مَا
what
مَتَّعْنَا
mattaʿnāWe have given for enjoyment
بِهِۦٓ
bihi[with it]
أَزْوَٰجًۭا
azwājanpairs
مِّنْهُمْ
min'humof them
زَهْرَةَ
zahrata(the) splendor
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayati(of) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā(of) the world
لِنَفْتِنَهُمْ
linaftinahumthat We may test them
فِيهِ ۚ
fīhiin it
وَرِزْقُ
wariz'quAnd (the) provision
رَبِّكَ
rabbika(of) your Lord
خَيْرٌۭ
khayrun(is) better
وَأَبْقَىٰ
wa-abqāand more lasting
١٣١
(131)
And do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [some] categories of them, [its being but] the splendor of worldly life by which We test them. And the provision of your Lord is better and more enduring.

وَأْمُرْ
wamurAnd enjoin
أَهْلَكَ
ahlaka(on) your family
بِٱلصَّلَوٰةِ
bil-ṣalatithe prayer
وَٱصْطَبِرْ
wa-iṣ'ṭabirand be steadfast
عَلَيْهَا ۖ
ʿalayhātherein
لَا
Not
نَسْـَٔلُكَ
nasalukaWe ask you
رِزْقًۭا ۖ
riz'qan(for) provision
نَّحْنُ
naḥnuWe
نَرْزُقُكَ ۗ
narzuqukaprovide (for) you
وَٱلْعَـٰقِبَةُ
wal-ʿāqibatuand the outcome
لِلتَّقْوَىٰ
lilttaqwā(is) for the righteous[ness]
١٣٢
(132)
And enjoin prayer upon your family [and people] and be steadfast therein. We ask you not for provision; We provide for you, and the [best] outcome is for [those of] righteousness.

وَقَالُوا۟
waqālūAnd they say
لَوْلَا
lawlāWhy not
يَأْتِينَا
yatīnāhe brings us
بِـَٔايَةٍۢ
biāyatina sign
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّهِۦٓ ۚ
rabbihihis Lord
أَوَلَمْ
awalamHas not
تَأْتِهِم
tatihimcome to them
بَيِّنَةُ
bayyinatuevidence
مَا
(of) what
فِى
(was) in
ٱلصُّحُفِ
l-ṣuḥufithe Scriptures
ٱلْأُولَىٰ
l-ūlāthe former
١٣٣
(133)
And they say, "Why does he not bring us a sign from his Lord?" Has there not come to them evidence of what was in the former scriptures?

وَلَوْ
walawAnd if
أَنَّآ
annāWe
أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُم
ahlaknāhum(had) destroyed them
بِعَذَابٍۢ
biʿadhābinwith a punishment
مِّن
minbefore him
قَبْلِهِۦ
qablihibefore him
لَقَالُوا۟
laqālūsurely they (would) have said
رَبَّنَا
rabbanāOur Lord
لَوْلَآ
lawlāwhy not
أَرْسَلْتَ
arsaltaYou sent
إِلَيْنَا
ilaynāto us
رَسُولًۭا
rasūlana Messenger
فَنَتَّبِعَ
fanattabiʿaso we (could) have followed
ءَايَـٰتِكَ
āyātikaYour signs
مِن
minbefore
قَبْلِ
qablibefore
أَن
an[that]
نَّذِلَّ
nadhillawe were humiliated
وَنَخْزَىٰ
wanakhzāand disgraced
١٣٤
(134)
And if We had destroyed them with a punishment before him, they would have said, "Our Lord, why did You not send to us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses [i.e., teachings] before we were humiliated and disgraced?"

قُلْ
qulSay
كُلٌّۭ
kullunEach
مُّتَرَبِّصٌۭ
mutarabbiṣun(is) waiting
فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ ۖ
fatarabbaṣūso await
فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ
fasataʿlamūnaThen you will know
مَنْ
manwho
أَصْحَـٰبُ
aṣḥābu(are the) companions
ٱلصِّرَٰطِ
l-ṣirāṭi(of) the way
ٱلسَّوِىِّ
l-sawiyi[the] even
وَمَنِ
wamaniand who
ٱهْتَدَىٰ
ih'tadāis guided
١٣٥
(135)
Say, "Each [of us] is waiting; so wait. For you will know who are the companions of the sound path and who is guided."
