قَدْ
qadIndeed
أَفْلَحَ
aflaḥasuccessful
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
l-mu'minūna(are) the believers
١
(1)
Certainly will the believers have succeeded:

ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnaThose who
هُمْ
hum[they]
فِى
during
صَلَاتِهِمْ
ṣalātihimtheir prayers
خَـٰشِعُونَ
khāshiʿūna(are) humbly submissive
٢
(2)
They who are during their prayer humbly intent

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaThose who
هُمْ
hum[they]
عَنِ
ʿanifrom
ٱللَّغْوِ
l-laghwithe vain talk
مُعْرِضُونَ
muʿ'riḍūnaturn away
٣
(3)
And they who turn away from ill speech

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaThose who
هُمْ
hum[they]
لِلزَّكَوٰةِ
lilzzakatiof purification works
فَـٰعِلُونَ
fāʿilūna(are) doers
٤
(4)
And they who are observant of zakāh

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaAnd those who
هُمْ
hum[they]
لِفُرُوجِهِمْ
lifurūjihimof their modesty
حَـٰفِظُونَ
ḥāfiẓūna(are) guardians
٥
(5)
And they who guard their private parts

إِلَّا
illāExcept
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalāfrom
أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ
azwājihimtheir spouses
أَوْ
awor
مَا
what
مَلَكَتْ
malakatpossess
أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ
aymānuhumtheir right hands
فَإِنَّهُمْ
fa-innahumthen indeed, they
غَيْرُ
ghayru(are) not
مَلُومِينَ
malūmīnablameworthy
٦
(6)
Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed -

فَمَنِ
famaniThen whoever
ٱبْتَغَىٰ
ib'taghāseeks
وَرَآءَ
warāabeyond
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikathat
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
fa-ulāikathen those
هُمُ
humu[they]
ٱلْعَادُونَ
l-ʿādūna(are) the transgressors
٧
(7)
But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors -

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaAnd those who
هُمْ
hum[they]
لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ
li-amānātihimof their trusts
وَعَهْدِهِمْ
waʿahdihimand their promise(s)
رَٰعُونَ
rāʿūna(are) observers
٨
(8)
And they who are to their trusts and their promises attentive

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaAnd those who
هُمْ
hum[they]
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāover
صَلَوَٰتِهِمْ
ṣalawātihimtheir prayers
يُحَافِظُونَ
yuḥāfiẓūnathey guard
٩
(9)
And they who carefully maintain their prayers -

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāikaThose
هُمُ
humu[they]
ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ
l-wārithūna(are) the inheritors
١٠
(10)
Those are the inheritors

11
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnaWho
يَرِثُونَ
yarithūnawill inherit
ٱلْفِرْدَوْسَ
l-fir'dawsathe Paradise
هُمْ
humThey
فِيهَا
fīhātherein
خَـٰلِدُونَ
khālidūna(will) abide forever
١١
(11)
Who will inherit al-Firdaus. They will abide therein eternally.

وَلَقَدْ
walaqadAnd indeed
خَلَقْنَا
khalaqnāWe created
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ
l-insānathe humankind
مِن
minfrom
سُلَـٰلَةٍۢ
sulālatinan essence
مِّن
minof
طِينٍۢ
ṭīninclay
١٢
(12)
And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay.

ثُمَّ
thummaThen
جَعَلْنَـٰهُ
jaʿalnāhuWe placed him
نُطْفَةًۭ
nuṭ'fatan(as) a semen-drop
فِى
in
قَرَارٍۢ
qarārina resting place
مَّكِينٍۢ
makīninfirm
١٣
(13)
Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging [i.e., the womb].

ثُمَّ
thummaThen
خَلَقْنَا
khalaqnāWe created
ٱلنُّطْفَةَ
l-nuṭ'fatathe semen-drop
عَلَقَةًۭ
ʿalaqatan(into) a clinging substance
فَخَلَقْنَا
fakhalaqnāthen We created
ٱلْعَلَقَةَ
l-ʿalaqatathe clinging substance
مُضْغَةًۭ
muḍ'ghatan(into) an embryonic lump
فَخَلَقْنَا
fakhalaqnāthen We created
ٱلْمُضْغَةَ
l-muḍ'ghatathe embryonic lump
عِظَـٰمًۭا
ʿiẓāman(into) bones
فَكَسَوْنَا
fakasawnāthen We clothed
ٱلْعِظَـٰمَ
l-ʿiẓāmathe bones
لَحْمًۭا
laḥman(with) flesh
ثُمَّ
thummathen
أَنشَأْنَـٰهُ
anshanāhuWe produce it
خَلْقًا
khalqan(as) a creation
ءَاخَرَ ۚ
ākharaanother
فَتَبَارَكَ
fatabārakaSo blessed is
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
أَحْسَنُ
aḥsanu(the) Best
ٱلْخَـٰلِقِينَ
l-khāliqīna(of) the Creators
١٤
(14)
Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allāh, the best of creators.

ثُمَّ
thummaThen
إِنَّكُم
innakumindeed, you
بَعْدَ
baʿdaafter
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikathat
لَمَيِّتُونَ
lamayyitūnasurely (will) die
١٥
(15)
Then indeed, after that you are to die.

ثُمَّ
thummaThen
إِنَّكُمْ
innakumindeed, you
يَوْمَ
yawma(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
تُبْعَثُونَ
tub'ʿathūnawill be resurrected
١٦
(16)
Then indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, will be resurrected.

وَلَقَدْ
walaqadAnd indeed
خَلَقْنَا
khalaqnāWe (have) created
فَوْقَكُمْ
fawqakumabove you
سَبْعَ
sabʿaseven
طَرَآئِقَ
ṭarāiqapaths
وَمَا
wamāand not
كُنَّا
kunnāWe are
عَنِ
ʿaniof
ٱلْخَلْقِ
l-khalqithe creation
غَـٰفِلِينَ
ghāfilīnaunaware
١٧
(17)
And We have created above you seven layered heavens, and never have We been of [Our] creation unaware.

18
وَأَنزَلْنَا
wa-anzalnāAnd We send down
مِنَ
minafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāithe sky
مَآءًۢ
māanwater
بِقَدَرٍۢ
biqadarinin (due) measure
فَأَسْكَنَّـٰهُ
fa-askannāhuthen We cause it to settle
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ
l-arḍithe earth
وَإِنَّا
wa-innāAnd indeed, We
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāon
ذَهَابٍۭ
dhahābintaking it away
بِهِۦ
bihitaking it away
لَقَـٰدِرُونَ
laqādirūnasurely (are) Able
١٨
(18)
And We have sent down rain from the sky in a measured amount and settled it in the earth. And indeed, We are Able to take it away.

19
فَأَنشَأْنَا
fa-anshanāThen We produced
لَكُم
lakumfor you
بِهِۦ
bihiby it
جَنَّـٰتٍۢ
jannātingardens
مِّن
minof date-palms
نَّخِيلٍۢ
nakhīlinof date-palms
وَأَعْنَـٰبٍۢ
wa-aʿnābinand grapevines
لَّكُمْ
lakumfor you
فِيهَا
fīhāin it
فَوَٰكِهُ
fawākihu(are) fruits
كَثِيرَةٌۭ
kathīratunabundant
وَمِنْهَا
wamin'hāand from them
تَأْكُلُونَ
takulūnayou eat
١٩
(19)
And We brought forth for you thereby gardens of palm trees and grapevines in which for you are abundant fruits and from which you eat.

وَشَجَرَةًۭ
washajaratanAnd a tree
تَخْرُجُ
takhruju(that) springs forth
مِن
minfrom
طُورِ
ṭūriMount Sinai
سَيْنَآءَ
saynāaMount Sinai
تَنۢبُتُ
tanbutu(which) produces
بِٱلدُّهْنِ
bil-duh'nioil
وَصِبْغٍۢ
waṣib'ghinand a relish
لِّلْـَٔاكِلِينَ
lil'ākilīnafor those who eat
٢٠
(20)
And [We brought forth] a tree issuing from Mount Sinai which produces oil and food [i.e., olives] for those who eat.

وَإِنَّ
wa-innaAnd indeed
لَكُمْ
lakumfor you
فِى
in
ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ
l-anʿāmithe cattle
لَعِبْرَةًۭ ۖ
laʿib'ratansurely, (is) a lesson
نُّسْقِيكُم
nus'qīkumWe give you drink
مِّمَّا
mimmāfrom what
فِى
(is) in
بُطُونِهَا
buṭūnihātheir bellies
وَلَكُمْ
walakumand for you
فِيهَا
fīhāin them
مَنَـٰفِعُ
manāfiʿu(are) benefits
كَثِيرَةٌۭ
kathīratunmany
وَمِنْهَا
wamin'hāand of them
تَأْكُلُونَ
takulūnayou eat
٢١
(21)
And indeed, for you in livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from that which is in their bellies, and for you in them are numerous benefits, and from them you eat.

وَعَلَيْهَا
waʿalayhāAnd on them
وَعَلَى
waʿalāand on
ٱلْفُلْكِ
l-ful'ki[the] ships
تُحْمَلُونَ
tuḥ'malūnayou are carried
٢٢
(22)
And upon them and on ships you are carried.

23
وَلَقَدْ
walaqadAnd verily
أَرْسَلْنَا
arsalnāWe sent
نُوحًا
nūḥanNuh
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
قَوْمِهِۦ
qawmihihis people
فَقَالَ
faqālaand he said
يَـٰقَوْمِ
yāqawmiO my people
ٱعْبُدُوا۟
uʿ'budūWorship
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
مَا
not
لَكُم
lakumfor you
مِّنْ
min(is) any
إِلَـٰهٍ
ilāhingod
غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ
ghayruhuother than Him
أَفَلَا
afalāThen will not
تَتَّقُونَ
tattaqūnayou fear
٢٣
(23)
And We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?"

فَقَالَ
faqālaBut said
ٱلْمَلَؤُا۟
l-mala-uthe chiefs
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieved
مِن
minamong
قَوْمِهِۦ
qawmihihis people
مَا
This is not
هَـٰذَآ
hādhāThis is not
إِلَّا
illābut
بَشَرٌۭ
basharuna man
مِّثْلُكُمْ
mith'lukumlike you
يُرِيدُ
yurīduhe wishes
أَن
anto
يَتَفَضَّلَ
yatafaḍḍalaassert (his) superiority
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykumover you
وَلَوْ
walawand if
شَآءَ
shāaAllah had willed
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah had willed
لَأَنزَلَ
la-anzalasurely He (would have) sent down
مَلَـٰٓئِكَةًۭ
malāikatanAngels
مَّا
Not
سَمِعْنَا
samiʿ'nāwe heard
بِهَـٰذَا
bihādhāof this
فِىٓ
from
ءَابَآئِنَا
ābāināour forefathers
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
l-awalīnaour forefathers
٢٤
(24)
But the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, "This is not but a man like yourselves who wishes to take precedence over you; and if Allāh had willed [to send a messenger], He would have sent down angels. We have not heard of this among our forefathers.

إِنْ
inNot
هُوَ
huwahe
إِلَّا
illā(is) but
رَجُلٌۢ
rajuluna man
بِهِۦ
bihiin him
جِنَّةٌۭ
jinnatun(is) madness
فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟
fatarabbaṣūso wait
بِهِۦ
bihiconcerning him
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattāuntil
حِينٍۢ
ḥīnina time
٢٥
(25)
He is not but a man possessed with madness, so wait concerning him for a time."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
رَبِّ
rabbiMy Lord
ٱنصُرْنِى
unṣur'nīHelp me
بِمَا
bimābecause
كَذَّبُونِ
kadhabūnithey deny me
٢٦
(26)
[Noah] said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me."

فَأَوْحَيْنَآ
fa-awḥaynāSo We inspired
إِلَيْهِ
ilayhito him
أَنِ
aniThat
ٱصْنَعِ
iṣ'naʿiconstruct
ٱلْفُلْكَ
l-ful'kathe ship
بِأَعْيُنِنَا
bi-aʿyunināunder Our eyes
وَوَحْيِنَا
wawaḥyināand Our inspiration
فَإِذَا
fa-idhāthen when
جَآءَ
jāacomes
أَمْرُنَا
amrunāOur Command
وَفَارَ
wafāraand gushes forth
ٱلتَّنُّورُ ۙ
l-tanūruthe oven
فَٱسْلُكْ
fa-us'lukthen put
فِيهَا
fīhāinto it
مِن
minof
كُلٍّۢ
kullinevery (kind)
زَوْجَيْنِ
zawjayni(of) mates
ٱثْنَيْنِ
ith'naynitwo
وَأَهْلَكَ
wa-ahlakaand your family
إِلَّا
illāexcept
مَن
manthose
سَبَقَ
sabaqa(has) preceded
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhiagainst whom
ٱلْقَوْلُ
l-qawluthe Word
مِنْهُمْ ۖ
min'humthereof
وَلَا
walāAnd (do) not
تُخَـٰطِبْنِى
tukhāṭib'nīaddress Me
فِى
concerning
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
ظَلَمُوٓا۟ ۖ
ẓalamūwronged
إِنَّهُم
innahumindeed, they
مُّغْرَقُونَ
mugh'raqūna(are) the ones to be drowned
٢٧
(27)
So We inspired to him, "Construct the ship under Our observation and Our inspiration, and when Our command comes and the oven overflows, put into it [i.e., the ship] from each [creature] two mates and your family, except him for whom the decree [of destruction] has proceeded. And do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are to be drowned.

فَإِذَا
fa-idhāAnd when
ٱسْتَوَيْتَ
is'tawaytayou (have) boarded
أَنتَ
antayou
وَمَن
wamanand whoever
مَّعَكَ
maʿaka(is) with you
عَلَى
ʿalā[on]
ٱلْفُلْكِ
l-ful'kithe ship
فَقُلِ
faqulithen say
ٱلْحَمْدُ
l-ḥamduPraise
لِلَّهِ
lillahi(be) to Allah
ٱلَّذِى
alladhīWho
نَجَّىٰنَا
najjānā(has) saved us
مِنَ
minafrom
ٱلْقَوْمِ
l-qawmithe people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
٢٨
(28)
And when you have boarded the ship, you and those with you, then say, 'Praise to Allāh who has saved us from the wrongdoing people.'

29
وَقُل
waqulAnd say
رَّبِّ
rabbiMy Lord
أَنزِلْنِى
anzil'nīcause me to land
مُنزَلًۭا
munzalan(at) a landing place
مُّبَارَكًۭا
mubārakanblessed
وَأَنتَ
wa-antaand You
خَيْرُ
khayru(are) the Best
ٱلْمُنزِلِينَ
l-munzilīna(of) those who cause to land.'
٢٩
(29)
And say, 'My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best to accommodate [us].'"

إِنَّ
innaIndeed
فِى
in
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikathat
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ
laāyātinsurely (are) Signs
وَإِن
wa-inand indeed
كُنَّا
kunnāWe are
لَمُبْتَلِينَ
lamub'talīnasurely testing
٣٠
(30)
Indeed in that are signs, and indeed, We are ever testing [Our servants].

ثُمَّ
thummaThen
أَنشَأْنَا
anshanāWe produced
مِنۢ
minafter them
بَعْدِهِمْ
baʿdihimafter them
قَرْنًا
qarnana generation
ءَاخَرِينَ
ākharīnaanother
٣١
(31)
Then We produced after them a generation of others.

32
فَأَرْسَلْنَا
fa-arsalnāAnd We sent
فِيهِمْ
fīhimamong them
رَسُولًۭا
rasūlana Messenger
مِّنْهُمْ
min'humfrom themselves
أَنِ
ani[that]
ٱعْبُدُوا۟
uʿ'budūWorship
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
مَا
not
لَكُم
lakumfor you
مِّنْ
min(is) any
إِلَـٰهٍ
ilāhingod
غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ
ghayruhuother than Him
أَفَلَا
afalāThen will not
تَتَّقُونَ
tattaqūnayou fear
٣٢
(32)
And We sent among them a messenger from themselves, [saying], "Worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?"

وَقَالَ
waqālaAnd said
ٱلْمَلَأُ
l-mala-uthe chiefs
مِن
minof
قَوْمِهِ
qawmihihis people
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnawho
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieved
وَكَذَّبُوا۟
wakadhabūand denied
بِلِقَآءِ
biliqāi(the) meeting
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
l-ākhirati(of) the Hereafter
وَأَتْرَفْنَـٰهُمْ
wa-atrafnāhumwhile We had given them luxury
فِى
in
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayatithe life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā(of) the world
مَا
Not
هَـٰذَآ
hādhā(is) this
إِلَّا
illābut
بَشَرٌۭ
basharuna man
مِّثْلُكُمْ
mith'lukumlike you
يَأْكُلُ
yakuluHe eats
مِمَّا
mimmāof what
تَأْكُلُونَ
takulūnayou eat
مِنْهُ
min'hu[from it]
وَيَشْرَبُ
wayashrabuand he drinks
مِمَّا
mimmāof what
تَشْرَبُونَ
tashrabūnayou drink
٣٣
(33)
And the eminent among his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter while We had given them luxury in the worldly life said, "This is not but a man like yourselves. He eats of that from which you eat and drinks of what you drink.

وَلَئِنْ
wala-inAnd surely if
أَطَعْتُم
aṭaʿtumyou obey
بَشَرًۭا
basharana man
مِّثْلَكُمْ
mith'lakumlike you
إِنَّكُمْ
innakumindeed, you
إِذًۭا
idhanthen
لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ
lakhāsirūnasurely (will be) losers
٣٤
(34)
And if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers.

35
أَيَعِدُكُمْ
ayaʿidukumDoes he promise you
أَنَّكُمْ
annakumthat you
إِذَا
idhāwhen
مِتُّمْ
mittumyou are dead
وَكُنتُمْ
wakuntumand you become
تُرَابًۭا
turābandust
وَعِظَـٰمًا
waʿiẓāmanand bones
أَنَّكُم
annakumthat you
مُّخْرَجُونَ
mukh'rajūna(will be) brought forth
٣٥
(35)
Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth [once more]?

۞ هَيْهَاتَ
hayhātaFar-(fetched)
هَيْهَاتَ
hayhātafar-(fetched)
لِمَا
limāis what
تُوعَدُونَ
tūʿadūnayou are promised
٣٦
(36)
How far, how far, is that which you are promised.

إِنْ
inNot
هِىَ
hiyait
إِلَّا
illā(is) but
حَيَاتُنَا
ḥayātunāour life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā(of) the world
نَمُوتُ
namūtuwe die
وَنَحْيَا
wanaḥyāand we live
وَمَا
wamāand not
نَحْنُ
naḥnuwe
بِمَبْعُوثِينَ
bimabʿūthīna(will be) resurrected
٣٧
(37)
It [i.e., life] is not but our worldly life - we die and live, but we will not be resurrected.

إِنْ
inNot
هُوَ
huwa(is) he
إِلَّا
illābut
رَجُلٌ
rajuluna man
ٱفْتَرَىٰ
if'tarāwho (has) invented
عَلَى
ʿalāabout
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
كَذِبًۭا
kadhibana lie
وَمَا
wamāand not
نَحْنُ
naḥnuwe
لَهُۥ
lahu(in) him
بِمُؤْمِنِينَ
bimu'minīna(are) believers
٣٨
(38)
He is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allāh, and we will not believe him."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
رَبِّ
rabbiMy Lord
ٱنصُرْنِى
unṣur'nīHelp me
بِمَا
bimābecause
كَذَّبُونِ
kadhabūnithey deny me
٣٩
(39)
He said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
عَمَّا
ʿammāAfter a little while
قَلِيلٍۢ
qalīlinAfter a little while
لَّيُصْبِحُنَّ
layuṣ'biḥunnasurely they will become
نَـٰدِمِينَ
nādimīnaregretful
٤٠
(40)
[Allāh] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful."

41
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ
fa-akhadhathumuSo seized them
ٱلصَّيْحَةُ
l-ṣayḥatuthe awful cry
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqiin truth
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ
fajaʿalnāhumand We made them
غُثَآءًۭ ۚ
ghuthāan(as) rubbish of dead leaves
فَبُعْدًۭا
fabuʿ'danSo away
لِّلْقَوْمِ
lil'qawmiwith the people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
٤١
(41)
So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people.

ثُمَّ
thummaThen
أَنشَأْنَا
anshanāWe produced
مِنۢ

No nation will precede its time [of termination], nor will they remain [thereafter].

كَذَّبُوهُ ۚ

فَأَتْبَعْنَا
fa-atbaʿnāso We made (them) follow
بَعْضَهُم
baʿḍahumsome of them
بَعْضًۭا
baʿḍanothers
وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ
wajaʿalnāhumand We made them
أَحَادِيثَ ۚ
aḥādīthanarrations
فَبُعْدًۭا
fabuʿ'danSo away
لِّقَوْمٍۢ
liqawminwith a people
لَّا
not
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūnathey believe
٤٤
(44)
Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe.

ثُمَّ
thummaThen
أَرْسَلْنَا
arsalnāWe sent
مُوسَىٰ
mūsāMusa
وَأَخَاهُ
wa-akhāhuand his brother
هَـٰرُونَ
hārūnaHarun
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا
biāyātināwith Our Signs
وَسُلْطَـٰنٍۢ
wasul'ṭāninand an authority
مُّبِينٍ
mubīninclear
٤٥
(45)
Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a clear authority

إِلَىٰ
ilāTo
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawnaFiraun
وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦ
wamala-ihiand his chiefs
فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟
fa-is'takbarūbut they behaved arrogantly
وَكَانُوا۟
wakānūand they were
قَوْمًا
qawmana people
عَالِينَ
ʿālīnahaughty
٤٦
(46)
To Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were arrogant and were a haughty people.

فَقَالُوٓا۟
faqālūThen they said
أَنُؤْمِنُ
anu'minuShall we believe
لِبَشَرَيْنِ
libasharayni(in) two men
مِثْلِنَا
mith'linālike ourselves
وَقَوْمُهُمَا
waqawmuhumāwhile their people
لَنَا
lanāfor us
عَـٰبِدُونَ
ʿābidūna(are) slaves
٤٧
(47)
They said, "Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are for us in servitude?"

فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا
fakadhabūhumāSo they denied them
فَكَانُوا۟
fakānūand they became
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْمُهْلَكِينَ
l-muh'lakīnathose who were destroyed

(48)
So they denied them and were of those destroyed.

وَلَقَدْ
walaqadAnd verily
ءَاتَيْنَا
ātaynāWe gave
مُوسَى
mūsāMusa
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ
l-kitābathe Scripture
لَعَلَّهُمْ
laʿallahumso that they may
يَهْتَدُونَ
yahtadūnabe guided
٤٩
(49)
And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided.

وَجَعَلْنَا
wajaʿalnāAnd We made
ٱبْنَ
ib'na(the) son
مَرْيَمَ
maryama(of) Maryam
وَأُمَّهُۥٓ
wa-ummahuand his mother
ءَايَةًۭ
āyatana Sign
وَءَاوَيْنَـٰهُمَآ
waāwaynāhumāand We sheltered them
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
رَبْوَةٍۢ
rabwatina high ground
ذَاتِ
dhātiof tranquility
قَرَارٍۢ
qarārinof tranquility
وَمَعِينٍۢ
wamaʿīninand water springs
٥٠
(50)
And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and sheltered them within a high ground having level [areas] and flowing water.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhāO Messengers
ٱلرُّسُلُ
l-rusuluO Messengers
كُلُوا۟
kulūEat
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ
l-ṭayibātithe good things
وَٱعْمَلُوا۟
wa-iʿ'malūand do
صَـٰلِحًا ۖ
ṣāliḥanrighteous (deeds)
إِنِّى
innīIndeed, I Am
بِمَا
bimāof what
تَعْمَلُونَ
taʿmalūnayou do
عَلِيمٌۭ
ʿalīmunAll-Knower
٥١
(51)
[Allāh said], "O messengers, eat from the good foods and work righteousness. Indeed I, of what you do, am Knowing.

وَإِنَّ
wa-innaAnd indeed
هَـٰذِهِۦٓ
hādhihithis
أُمَّتُكُمْ
ummatukumyour religion
أُمَّةًۭ
ummatan(is) religion
وَٰحِدَةًۭ
wāḥidatanone
وَأَنَا۠
wa-anāAnd I Am
رَبُّكُمْ
rabbukumyour Lord
فَٱتَّقُونِ
fa-ittaqūniso fear Me
٥٢
(52)
And indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me."

فَتَقَطَّعُوٓا۟
fataqaṭṭaʿūBut they cut off
أَمْرَهُم
amrahumtheir affair (of unity)
بَيْنَهُمْ
baynahumbetween them
زُبُرًۭا ۖ
zuburan(into) sects
كُلُّ
kullueach
حِزْبٍۭ
ḥiz'binfaction
بِمَا
bimāin what
لَدَيْهِمْ
ladayhimthey have
فَرِحُونَ
fariḥūnarejoicing
٥٣
(53)
But they [i.e., the people] divided their religion among them into portions [i.e., sects] - each faction, in what it has, rejoicing.

fadharhumSo leave them
فِى

غَمْرَتِهِمْ
ghamratihimtheir confusion
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattāuntil

So leave them in their confusion for a time.

أَنَّمَا

نُمِدُّهُم

وَبَنِينَ
wabanīnaand children

Do they think that what We extend to them of wealth and children

ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ ۚ

بَل

لَّا

يَشْعُرُونَ
yashʿurūnathey perceive

(56)
Is [because] We hasten for them good things? Rather, they do not perceive.

ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who

hum[they]
مِّنْ
minfrom
خَشْيَةِ
khashyati(the) fear
رَبِّهِم
rabbihim(of) their Lord
مُّشْفِقُونَ
mush'fiqūna(are) cautious
٥٧
(57)
Indeed, they who are apprehensive from fear of their Lord

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaAnd those
هُم
hum[they]
بِـَٔايَـٰتِ
biāyātiin (the) Signs
رَبِّهِمْ
rabbihim(of) their Lord
يُؤْمِنُونَ

(58)
And they who believe in the signs of their Lord

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaAnd those
هُم
hum[they]
بِرَبِّهِمْ
birabbihimwith their Lord
لَا
(do) not
يُشْرِكُونَ
yush'rikūnaassociate partners

And they who do not associate anything with their Lord

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaAnd those who
يُؤْتُونَ
yu'tūnagive
مَآ
what
ءَاتَوا۟
ātawthey give
وَّقُلُوبُهُمْ
waqulūbuhumwhile their hearts
وَجِلَةٌ
wajilatun(are) fearful
أَنَّهُمْ
annahumbecause they
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
رَبِّهِمْ
rabbihimtheir Lord
رَٰجِعُونَ
rājiʿūna(will) return
٦٠
(60)
And they who give what they give while their hearts are fearful because they will be returning to their Lord -

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāika(It is) those
يُسَـٰرِعُونَ
yusāriʿūnawho hasten
فِى
in
ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ
l-khayrātithe good (deeds)
وَهُمْ
wahumand they
لَهَا
lahāin them
سَـٰبِقُونَ
sābiqūna(are) foremost
٦١
(61)
It is those who hasten to good deeds, and they outstrip [others] therein.

وَلَا
walāAnd not
نُكَلِّفُ
nukallifuWe burden
نَفْسًا
nafsanany soul
إِلَّا
illāexcept
وُسْعَهَا ۖ
wus'ʿahā(to) its capacity
وَلَدَيْنَا
waladaynāand with Us
كِتَـٰبٌۭ
kitābun(is) a Record
يَنطِقُ
yanṭiqu(which) speaks
بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ
bil-ḥaqiwith the truth
وَهُمْ
wahumand they
لَا
(will) not
يُظْلَمُونَ
yuẓ'lamūnabe wronged
٦٢
(62)
And We charge no soul except [with that within] its capacity, and with Us is a record which speaks with truth; and they will not be wronged.

بَلْ
balNay
قُلُوبُهُمْ
qulūbuhumtheir hearts
فِى
(are) in
غَمْرَةٍۢ
ghamratinconfusion
مِّنْ
minover
هَـٰذَا
hādhāthis
وَلَهُمْ
walahumand for them
أَعْمَـٰلٌۭ
aʿmālun(are) deeds
مِّن
minbesides
دُونِ
dūnibesides
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikathat
هُمْ
humthey
لَهَا
lahāfor it
عَـٰمِلُونَ
ʿāmilūna(are) doers
٦٣
(63)
But their hearts are covered with confusion over this, and they have [evil] deeds besides that [i.e., disbelief] which they are doing,

حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattāUntil
إِذَآ
idhāwhen
أَخَذْنَا
akhadhnāWe seize
مُتْرَفِيهِم
mut'rafīhimtheir affluent ones
بِٱلْعَذَابِ
bil-ʿadhābiwith the punishment
إِذَا
idhābehold
هُمْ
humThey
يَجْـَٔرُونَ
yajarūnacry for help
٦٤
(64)
Until when We seize their affluent ones with punishment, at once they are crying [to Allāh] for help.

لَا
(Do) not
تَجْـَٔرُوا۟
tajarūcry for help
ٱلْيَوْمَ ۖ
l-yawmatoday
إِنَّكُم
innakumIndeed, you
مِّنَّا
minnāfrom Us
لَا
not
تُنصَرُونَ
tunṣarūnawill be helped
٦٥
(65)
Do not cry out today. Indeed, by Us you will not be helped.

قَدْ
qadVerily
كَانَتْ
kānatwere
ءَايَـٰتِى
āyātīMy Verses
تُتْلَىٰ
tut'lārecited
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykumto you
فَكُنتُمْ
fakuntumbut you used
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā(to) on
أَعْقَـٰبِكُمْ
aʿqābikumyour heels
تَنكِصُونَ
tankiṣūnaturn back
٦٦
(66)
My verses had already been recited to you, but you were turning back on your heels

مُسْتَكْبِرِينَ
mus'takbirīna(Being) arrogant
بِهِۦ
bihiabout it
سَـٰمِرًۭا
sāmiranconversing by night
تَهْجُرُونَ
tahjurūnaspeaking evil
٦٧
(67)
In arrogance regarding it, conversing by night, speaking evil.

أَفَلَمْ
afalamThen, do not
يَدَّبَّرُوا۟
yaddabbarūthey ponder
ٱلْقَوْلَ
l-qawlathe Word
أَمْ
amor
جَآءَهُم
jāahumhas come to them
مَّا
what
لَمْ
lamnot
يَأْتِ
yati(had) come
ءَابَآءَهُمُ
ābāahumu(to) their forefathers
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
l-awalīna(to) their forefathers
٦٨
(68)
Then have they not reflected over the word [i.e., the Qur’ān], or has there come to them that which had not come to their forefathers?

lam(do) not
يَعْرِفُوا۟
yaʿrifūthey recognize
رَسُولَهُمْ
rasūlahumtheir Messenger
فَهُمْ
fahumso they
لَهُۥ
lahu(are) rejecting him
مُنكِرُونَ
munkirūna(are) rejecting him
٦٩
(69)
Or did they not know their Messenger, so they are toward him disacknowledging?

يَقُولُونَ
yaqūlūnathey say
بِهِۦ
bihiIn him
جِنَّةٌۢ ۚ
jinnatun(is) madness
بَلْ
balNay
جَآءَهُم
jāahumhe brought them
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqithe truth
وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ
wa-aktharuhumbut most of them
لِلْحَقِّ
lil'ḥaqqito the truth
كَـٰرِهُونَ
kārihūna(are) averse
٧٠
(70)
Or do they say, "In him is madness"? Rather, he brought them the truth, but most of them, to the truth, are averse.

وَلَوِ
walawiBut if
ٱتَّبَعَ
ittabaʿa(had) followed
ٱلْحَقُّ
l-ḥaquthe truth
أَهْوَآءَهُمْ
ahwāahumtheir desires
لَفَسَدَتِ
lafasadatisurely (would) have been corrupted
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ
l-samāwātuthe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضُ
wal-arḍuand the earth
وَمَن
wamanand whoever
فِيهِنَّ ۚ
fīhinna(is) therein
بَلْ
balNay
أَتَيْنَـٰهُم
ataynāhumWe have brought them
بِذِكْرِهِمْ
bidhik'rihimtheir reminder
فَهُمْ
fahumbut they
عَن
ʿanfrom
ذِكْرِهِم
dhik'rihimtheir reminder
مُّعْرِضُونَ
muʿ'riḍūna(are) turning away
٧١
(71)
But if the Truth [i.e., Allāh] had followed their inclinations, the heavens and the earth and whoever is in them would have been ruined. Rather, We have brought them their message, but they, from their message, are turning away.

تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ
tasaluhumyou ask them
خَرْجًۭا
kharjan(for) a payment
فَخَرَاجُ
fakharājuBut the payment
رَبِّكَ
rabbika(of) your Lord
خَيْرٌۭ ۖ
khayrun(is) best
وَهُوَ
wahuwaand He
خَيْرُ
khayru(is) the Best
ٱلرَّٰزِقِينَ
l-rāziqīna(of) the Providers
٧٢
(72)
Or do you, [O Muḥammad], ask them for payment? But the reward of your Lord is best, and He is the best of providers.

وَإِنَّكَ
wa-innakaAnd indeed, you
لَتَدْعُوهُمْ
latadʿūhumcertainly call them
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
صِرَٰطٍۢ
ṣirāṭin(the) Path
مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ
mus'taqīminStraight
٧٣
(73)
And indeed, you invite them to a straight path.

وَإِنَّ
wa-innaAnd indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
لَا
(do) not
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūnabelieve
بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
bil-ākhiratiin the Hereafter
عَنِ
ʿanifrom
ٱلصِّرَٰطِ
l-ṣirāṭithe path
لَنَـٰكِبُونَ
lanākibūnasurely (are) deviating
٧٤
(74)
But indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter are deviating from the path.

۞ وَلَوْ
walawAnd if
رَحِمْنَـٰهُمْ
raḥim'nāhumWe had mercy on them
وَكَشَفْنَا
wakashafnāand We removed
مَا
what
بِهِم
bihim(was) on them
مِّن
minof
ضُرٍّۢ
ḍurrin(the) hardship
لَّلَجُّوا۟
lalajjūsurely they would persist
فِى
in
طُغْيَـٰنِهِمْ
ṭugh'yānihimtheir transgression
يَعْمَهُونَ
yaʿmahūnawandering blindly
٧٥
(75)
And even if We gave them mercy and removed what was upon them of affliction, they would persist in their transgression, wandering blindly.

وَلَقَدْ
walaqadAnd verily
أَخَذْنَـٰهُم
akhadhnāhumWe seized them
بِٱلْعَذَابِ
bil-ʿadhābiwith the punishment
فَمَا
famābut not
ٱسْتَكَانُوا۟
is'takānūthey submit
لِرَبِّهِمْ
lirabbihimto their Lord
وَمَا
wamāand not
يَتَضَرَّعُونَ
yataḍarraʿūnathey supplicate humbly
٧٦
(76)
And We had gripped them with suffering [as a warning], but they did not yield to their Lord, nor did they humbly supplicate, [and will continue thus]

حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattāUntil
إِذَا
idhāwhen
فَتَحْنَا
fataḥnāWe opened
عَلَيْهِم
ʿalayhimfor them
بَابًۭا
bābana gate
ذَا
dhāof a punishment
عَذَابٍۢ
ʿadhābinof a punishment
شَدِيدٍ
shadīdinsevere
إِذَا
idhābehold
هُمْ
humThey
فِيهِ
fīhiin it
مُبْلِسُونَ
mub'lisūna(will be in) despair
٧٧
(77)
Until when We have opened before them a door of severe punishment, immediately they will be therein in despair.

وَهُوَ
wahuwaAnd He
ٱلَّذِىٓ
alladhī(is) the One Who
أَنشَأَ
ansha-aproduced
لَكُمُ
lakumufor you
ٱلسَّمْعَ
l-samʿathe hearing
وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَ
wal-abṣāraand the sight
وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۚ
wal-afidataand the feeling
قَلِيلًۭا
qalīlanlittle
مَّا
(is) what
تَشْكُرُونَ
tashkurūnayou give thanks
٧٨
(78)
And it is He who produced for you hearing and vision and hearts [i.e., intellect]; little are you grateful.

وَهُوَ
wahuwaAnd He
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī(is) the One Who
ذَرَأَكُمْ
dhara-akummultiplied you
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
وَإِلَيْهِ
wa-ilayhiand to Him
تُحْشَرُونَ
tuḥ'sharūnayou will be gathered
٧٩
(79)
And it is He who has multiplied you throughout the earth, and to Him you will be gathered.

وَهُوَ
wahuwaAnd He
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī(is) the One Who
يُحْىِۦ
yuḥ'yīgives life
وَيُمِيتُ
wayumītuand causes death
وَلَهُ
walahuand for Him
ٱخْتِلَـٰفُ
ikh'tilāfu(is the) alternation
ٱلَّيْلِ
al-layli(of) the night
وَٱلنَّهَارِ ۚ
wal-nahāriand the day
أَفَلَا
afalāThen will not
تَعْقِلُونَ
taʿqilūnayou reason
٨٠
(80)
And it is He who gives life and causes death, and His is the alternation of the night and the day. Then will you not reason?

بَلْ
balNay
قَالُوا۟
qālūthey say
مِثْلَ
mith'la(the) like
مَا
(of) what
قَالَ
qālasaid
ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ
l-awalūnathe former (people)

(81)
Rather, they say like what the former peoples said.

قَالُوٓا۟
qālūThey said
أَءِذَا
a-idhāWhat! When
مِتْنَا
mit'nāwe are dead
وَكُنَّا
wakunnāand become
تُرَابًۭا
turābandust
وَعِظَـٰمًا
waʿiẓāmanand bones
أَءِنَّا
a-innāwould we
لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
lamabʿūthūnasurely be resurrected
٨٢
(82)
They said, "When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?

لَقَدْ
laqadVerily
وُعِدْنَا
wuʿid'nāwe have been promised
نَحْنُ
naḥnu[we]
وَءَابَآؤُنَا
waābāunāand our forefathers
هَـٰذَا
hādhāthis
مِن
minbefore
قَبْلُ
qablubefore
إِنْ
innot
هَـٰذَآ
hādhā(is) this
إِلَّآ
illābut
أَسَـٰطِيرُ
asāṭīru(the) tales
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
l-awalīna(of) the former (people)
٨٣
(83)
We have been promised this, we and our forefathers, before; this is not but legends of the former peoples."

ٱلْأَرْضُ
l-arḍuthe earth
وَمَن
wamanand whoever
فِيهَآ

تَعْلَمُونَ
taʿlamūnaknow
٨٤
(84)
Say, [O Muḥammad], "To whom belongs the earth and whoever is in it, if you should know?"

لِلَّهِ ۚ
lillahiTo Allah
قُلْ
qulSay
أَفَلَا
afalāThen will not
تَذَكَّرُونَ

They will say, "To Allāh." Say, "Then will you not remember?"

rabbu(is the) Lord
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti(of) the seven heavens
ٱلسَّبْعِ
l-sabʿi(of) the seven heavens
وَرَبُّ
warabbuand (the) Lord
ٱلْعَرْشِ
l-ʿarshi(of) the Throne
ٱلْعَظِيمِ
l-ʿaẓīmithe Great
٨٦
(86)
Say, "Who is Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Great Throne?"

لِلَّهِ ۚ
lillahiAllah
قُلْ

أَفَلَا
afalāThen will not
تَتَّقُونَ
tattaqūnayou fear (Him)

They will say, "[They belong] to Allāh." Say, "Then will you not fear Him?"

qulSay
مَنۢ
manWho is (it)
بِيَدِهِۦ
biyadihiin Whose Hand(s)
مَلَكُوتُ
malakūtu(is the) dominion
كُلِّ
kulli(of) all
شَىْءٍۢ
shayinthings
وَهُوَ
wahuwaand He
يُجِيرُ
yujīruprotects
وَلَا
walāand no (one)
يُجَارُ
yujāru(can) be protected
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhiagainst Him
إِن
inIf
كُنتُمْ
kuntumyou
تَعْلَمُونَ
taʿlamūnaknow
٨٨
(88)
Say, "In whose hand is the realm of all things - and He protects while none can protect against Him - if you should know?"

سَيَقُولُونَ
sayaqūlūnaThey will say
لِلَّهِ ۚ
lillahiAllah
قُلْ
qulSay
فَأَنَّىٰ
fa-annāThen how
تُسْحَرُونَ
tus'ḥarūnaare you deluded
٨٩
(89)
They will say, "[All belongs] to Allāh." Say, "Then how are you deluded?"

بَلْ
balNay
أَتَيْنَـٰهُم
ataynāhumWe (have) brought them
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqithe truth
وَإِنَّهُمْ
wa-innahumbut indeed, they
لَكَـٰذِبُونَ
lakādhibūnasurely, (are) liars
٩٠
(90)
Rather, We have brought them the truth, and indeed they are liars.

Not
ٱتَّخَذَ
ittakhadhaAllah has taken
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah has taken
مِن
minany
وَلَدٍۢ
waladinson
وَمَا
wamāand not
كَانَ
kānais
مَعَهُۥ
maʿahuwith Him
مِنْ
minany
إِلَـٰهٍ ۚ
ilāhingod
إِذًۭا
idhanThen
لَّذَهَبَ
ladhahabasurely (would have) taken away
كُلُّ
kullueach
إِلَـٰهٍۭ
ilāhingod
بِمَا
bimāwhat
خَلَقَ
khalaqahe created
وَلَعَلَا
walaʿalāand surely would have overpowered
بَعْضُهُمْ
baʿḍuhumsome of them
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā[on]
بَعْضٍۢ ۚ
baʿḍinothers
سُبْحَـٰنَ
sub'ḥānaGlory be
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(to) Allah
عَمَّا
ʿammāabove what
يَصِفُونَ
yaṣifūnathey attribute
٩١
(91)
Allāh has not taken any son, nor has there ever been with Him any deity. [If there had been], then each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have [sought to] overcome others. Exalted is Allāh above what they describe [concerning Him].

عَـٰلِمِ
ʿālimiKnower
ٱلْغَيْبِ
l-ghaybi(of) the unseen
وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ
wal-shahādatiand the witnessed
فَتَعَـٰلَىٰ
fataʿālāexalted is He
عَمَّا
ʿammāabove what
يُشْرِكُونَ
yush'rikūnathey associate
٩٢
(92)
[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, so high is He above what they associate [with Him].

قُل
qulSay
رَّبِّ
rabbiMy Lord
إِمَّا
immāIf
تُرِيَنِّى
turiyannīYou should show me
مَا
what
يُوعَدُونَ
yūʿadūnathey are promised
٩٣
(93)
Say, [O Muḥammad], "My Lord, if You should show me that which they are promised,

رَبِّ
rabbiMy Lord
فَلَا
falāthen (do) not
تَجْعَلْنِى
tajʿalnīplace me
فِى
among
ٱلْقَوْمِ
l-qawmithe people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
٩٤
(94)
My Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people."

95
وَإِنَّا
wa-innāAnd indeed We
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalāon
أَن
anthat
نُّرِيَكَ
nuriyakaWe show you
مَا
what
نَعِدُهُمْ
naʿiduhumWe have promised them
لَقَـٰدِرُونَ
laqādirūnasurely able
٩٥
(95)
And indeed, We are Able to show you what We have promised them.

ٱدْفَعْ
id'faʿRepel
بِٱلَّتِى
bi-allatīby that
هِىَ
hiyawhich
أَحْسَنُ
aḥsanu(is) best
ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ ۚ
l-sayi-atathe evil
نَحْنُ
naḥnuWe
أَعْلَمُ
aʿlamuknow best
بِمَا
bimāof what
يَصِفُونَ
yaṣifūnathey attribute
٩٦
(96)
Repel, by [means of] what is best, [their] evil. We are most knowing of what they describe.

وَقُل
waqulAnd say
رَّبِّ
rabbiMy Lord
أَعُوذُ
aʿūdhuI seek refuge
بِكَ
bikain You
مِنْ
minfrom
هَمَزَٰتِ
hamazāti(the) suggestions
ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ
l-shayāṭīni(of) the evil ones
٩٧
(97)
And say, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils,

وَأَعُوذُ
wa-aʿūdhuAnd I seek refuge
بِكَ
bikain You
رَبِّ
rabbiMy Lord
أَن
anLest
يَحْضُرُونِ
yaḥḍurūnithey be present with me
٩٨
(98)
And I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me."

99
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattāUntil
إِذَا
idhāwhen
جَآءَ
jāacomes
أَحَدَهُمُ
aḥadahumu(to) one of them
ٱلْمَوْتُ
l-mawtuthe death
قَالَ
qālahe says
رَبِّ
rabbiMy Lord
ٱرْجِعُونِ
ir'jiʿūniSend me back
٩٩
(99)
[For such is the state of the disbelievers] until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "My Lord, send me back

لَعَلِّىٓ
laʿallīThat I may
أَعْمَلُ
aʿmaludo
صَـٰلِحًۭا
ṣāliḥanrighteous (deeds)
فِيمَا
fīmāin what
تَرَكْتُ ۚ
taraktuI left behind
كَلَّآ ۚ
kallāNo
إِنَّهَا
innahāIndeed, it
كَلِمَةٌ
kalimatun(is) a word
هُوَ
huwahe
قَآئِلُهَا ۖ
qāiluhāspeaks it
وَمِن
waminand before them
وَرَآئِهِم
warāihimand before them
بَرْزَخٌ
barzakhun(is) a barrier
إِلَىٰ
ilātill
يَوْمِ
yawmi(the) Day
يُبْعَثُونَ
yub'ʿathūnathey are resurrected
١٠٠
(100)
That I might do righteousness in that which I left behind." No! It is only a word he is saying; and behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected.

فَإِذَا
fa-idhāSo when
نُفِخَ
nufikhais blown
فِى
in
ٱلصُّورِ
l-ṣūrithe trumpet
فَلَآ
falāthen not
أَنسَابَ
ansāba(there) will be relationship
بَيْنَهُمْ
baynahumamong them
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ
yawma-idhinthat Day
وَلَا
walāand not
يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
yatasāalūnawill they ask each other
١٠١
(101)
So when the Horn is blown, no relationship will there be among them that Day, nor will they ask about one another.

فَمَن
famanThen (the one) whose
ثَقُلَتْ
thaqulat(are) heavy
مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ
mawāzīnuhuhis scales
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
fa-ulāikathen those
هُمُ
humuthey
ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ
l-muf'liḥūna(are) the successful
١٠٢
(102)
And those whose scales are heavy [with good deeds] - it is they who are the successful.

103
وَمَنْ
wamanBut (the one) whose
خَفَّتْ
khaffat(are) light
مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ
mawāzīnuhuhis scales
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
fa-ulāikathen those
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathey [who]
خَسِرُوٓا۟
khasirūhave lost
أَنفُسَهُمْ
anfusahumtheir souls
فِى
in
جَهَنَّمَ
jahannamaHell
خَـٰلِدُونَ
khālidūnathey (will) abide forever
١٠٣
(103)
But those whose scales are light - those are the ones who have lost their souls, [being] in Hell, abiding eternally.

تَلْفَحُ
talfaḥuWill burn
وُجُوهَهُمُ
wujūhahumutheir faces
ٱلنَّارُ
l-nāruthe Fire
وَهُمْ
wahumand they
فِيهَا
fīhāin it
كَـٰلِحُونَ
kāliḥūna(will) grin with displaced lips
١٠٤
(104)
The Fire will sear their faces, and they therein will have taut smiles.

أَلَمْ
alamWere not
تَكُنْ
takunWere not
ءَايَـٰتِى
āyātīMy Verses
تُتْلَىٰ
tut'lārecited
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykumto you
فَكُنتُم
fakuntumand you used (to)
بِهَا
bihādeny them
تُكَذِّبُونَ
tukadhibūnadeny them
١٠٥
(105)
[It will be said], "Were not My verses recited to you and you used to deny them?"

قَالُوا۟
qālūThey (will) say
رَبَّنَا
rabbanāOur Lord
غَلَبَتْ
ghalabatOvercame
عَلَيْنَا
ʿalaynā[on] us
شِقْوَتُنَا
shiq'watunāour wretchedness
وَكُنَّا
wakunnāand we were
قَوْمًۭا
qawmana people
ضَآلِّينَ
ḍāllīnaastray
١٠٦
(106)
They will say, "Our Lord, our wretchedness overcame us, and we were a people astray.

رَبَّنَآ
rabbanāOur Lord
أَخْرِجْنَا
akhrij'nāBring us out
مِنْهَا
min'hāfrom it
فَإِنْ
fa-inthen if
عُدْنَا
ʿud'nāwe return
فَإِنَّا
fa-innāthen indeed, we
ظَـٰلِمُونَ
ẓālimūna(would be) wrongdoers
١٠٧
(107)
Our Lord, remove us from it, and if we were to return [to evil], we would indeed be wrongdoers."

قَالَ
qālaHe (will) say
ٱخْسَـُٔوا۟
ikh'saūRemain despised
فِيهَا
fīhāin it
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تُكَلِّمُونِ
tukallimūnispeak to Me
١٠٨
(108)
He will say, "Remain despised therein and do not speak to Me.

إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed
كَانَ
kāna(there) was
فَرِيقٌۭ
farīquna party
مِّنْ
minof
عِبَادِى
ʿibādīMy slaves
يَقُولُونَ
yaqūlūna(who) said
رَبَّنَآ
rabbanāOur Lord
ءَامَنَّا
āmannāWe believe
فَٱغْفِرْ
fa-igh'firso forgive
لَنَا
lanāus
وَٱرْحَمْنَا
wa-ir'ḥamnāand have mercy on us
وَأَنتَ
wa-antaand You
خَيْرُ
khayru(are) best
ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ
l-rāḥimīna(of) those who show mercy
١٠٩
(109)
Indeed, there was a party of My servants who said, 'Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of the merciful.'

فَٱتَّخَذْتُمُوهُمْ
fa-ittakhadhtumūhumBut you took them
سِخْرِيًّا
sikh'riyyan(in) mockery
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattāuntil
أَنسَوْكُمْ
ansawkumthey made you forget
ذِكْرِى
dhik'rīMy remembrance
وَكُنتُم
wakuntumand you used (to)
مِّنْهُمْ
min'humat them
تَضْحَكُونَ
taḍḥakūnalaugh
١١٠
(110)
But you took them in mockery to the point that they made you forget My remembrance, and you used to laugh at them.

إِنِّى
innīIndeed, I
جَزَيْتُهُمُ
jazaytuhumuhave rewarded them
ٱلْيَوْمَ
l-yawmathis Day
بِمَا
bimābecause
صَبَرُوٓا۟
ṣabarūthey were patient
أَنَّهُمْ
annahumindeed, they
هُمُ
humu[they]
ٱلْفَآئِزُونَ
l-fāizūna(are) the successful ones
١١١
(111)
Indeed, I have rewarded them this Day for their patient endurance - that they are the attainers [of success]."

قَـٰلَ
qālaHe will say
كَمْ
kamHow long
لَبِثْتُمْ
labith'tumdid you remain
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
عَدَدَ
ʿadada(in) number
سِنِينَ
sinīna(of) years
١١٢
(112)
[Allāh] will say, "How long did you remain on earth in number of years?"

قَالُوا۟
qālūThey will say
لَبِثْنَا
labith'nāWe remained
يَوْمًا
yawmana day
أَوْ
awor
بَعْضَ
baʿḍaa part
يَوْمٍۢ
yawmin(of) a day
فَسْـَٔلِ
fasalibut ask
ٱلْعَآدِّينَ
l-ʿādīnathose who keep count
١١٣
(113)
They will say, "We remained a day or part of a day; ask those who enumerate."

قَـٰلَ
qālaHe will say
إِن
inNot
لَّبِثْتُمْ
labith'tumyou stayed
إِلَّا
illābut
قَلِيلًۭا ۖ
qalīlana little
لَّوْ
lawif
أَنَّكُمْ
annakumonly you
كُنتُمْ
kuntum[you]
تَعْلَمُونَ
taʿlamūnaknew
١١٤
(114)
He will say, "You stayed not but a little - if only you had known.

أَفَحَسِبْتُمْ
afaḥasib'tumThen did you think
أَنَّمَا
annamāthat
خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ
khalaqnākumWe created you
عَبَثًۭا
ʿabathanuselessly
وَأَنَّكُمْ
wa-annakumand that you
إِلَيْنَا
ilaynāto Us
لَا
not
تُرْجَعُونَ
tur'jaʿūnawill be returned
١١٥
(115)
Then did you think that We created you uselessly and that to Us you would not be returned?"

116
فَتَعَـٰلَى
fataʿālāSo exalted is
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
ٱلْمَلِكُ
l-malikuthe King
ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ
l-ḥaquthe Truth
لَآ
(There is) no
إِلَـٰهَ
ilāhagod
إِلَّا
illāexcept
هُوَ
huwaHim
رَبُّ
rabbu(the) Lord
ٱلْعَرْشِ
l-ʿarshi(of) the Throne
ٱلْكَرِيمِ
l-karīmiHonorable
١١٦
(116)
So exalted is Allāh, the Sovereign, the Truth; there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.

وَمَن
wamanAnd whoever
يَدْعُ
yadʿuinvokes
مَعَ
maʿawith
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
إِلَـٰهًا
ilāhangod
ءَاخَرَ
ākharaother
لَا
no
بُرْهَـٰنَ
bur'hānaproof
لَهُۥ
lahufor him
بِهِۦ
bihiin it
فَإِنَّمَا
fa-innamāThen only
حِسَابُهُۥ
ḥisābuhuhis account
عِندَ
ʿinda(is) with
رَبِّهِۦٓ ۚ
rabbihihis Lord
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, [he]
لَا
not
يُفْلِحُ
yuf'liḥuwill succeed
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ
l-kāfirūnathe disbelievers
١١٧
(117)
And whoever invokes besides Allāh another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.

وَقُل
waqulAnd say
رَّبِّ
rabbiMy Lord
ٱغْفِرْ
igh'firForgive
وَٱرْحَمْ
wa-ir'ḥamand have mercy
وَأَنتَ
wa-antaand You
خَيْرُ
khayru(are the) Best
ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ
l-rāḥimīna(of) those who show mercy
١١٨
(118)
And, [O Muḥammad], say, "My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful."
