تِلْكَ
til'kaThese
ءَايَـٰتُ
āyātu(are the) Verses
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ
l-kitābi(of) the Book
ٱلْمُبِينِ
l-mubīnithe clear
٢
(2)
These are verses of the clear Book.

نَتْلُوا۟
natlūWe recite
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalaykato you
مِن
minfrom
نَّبَإِ
naba-i(the) news
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā(of) Musa
وَفِرْعَوْنَ
wafir'ʿawnaand Firaun
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqiin truth
لِقَوْمٍۢ
liqawminfor a people
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūnawho believe
٣
(3)
We recite to you from the news of Moses and Pharaoh in truth for a people who believe.

إِنَّ
innaIndeed
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawnaFiraun
عَلَا
ʿalāexalted himself
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe land
وَجَعَلَ
wajaʿalaand made
أَهْلَهَا
ahlahāits people
شِيَعًۭا
shiyaʿan(into) sects
يَسْتَضْعِفُ
yastaḍʿifuoppressing
طَآئِفَةًۭ
ṭāifatana group
مِّنْهُمْ
min'humamong them
يُذَبِّحُ
yudhabbiḥuslaughtering
أَبْنَآءَهُمْ
abnāahumtheir sons
وَيَسْتَحْىِۦ
wayastaḥyīand letting live
نِسَآءَهُمْ ۚ
nisāahumtheir women
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, he
كَانَ
kānawas
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ
l-muf'sidīnathe corrupters
٤
(4)
Indeed, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land and made its people into factions, oppressing a sector among them, slaughtering their [newborn] sons and keeping their females alive. Indeed, he was of the corrupters.

وَنُرِيدُ
wanurīduAnd We wanted
أَن
anto
نَّمُنَّ
namunnabestow a favor
عَلَى
ʿalāupon
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
ٱسْتُضْعِفُوا۟
us'tuḍ'ʿifūwere oppressed
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe land
وَنَجْعَلَهُمْ
wanajʿalahumand make them
أَئِمَّةًۭ
a-immatanleaders
وَنَجْعَلَهُمُ
wanajʿalahumuand make them
ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ
l-wārithīnathe inheritors
٥
(5)
And We wanted to confer favor upon those who were oppressed in the land and make them leaders and make them inheritors

وَنُمَكِّنَ
wanumakkinaAnd [We] establish
لَهُمْ
lahumthem
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe land
وَنُرِىَ
wanuriyaand show
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawnaFiraun
وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ
wahāmānaand Haman
وَجُنُودَهُمَا
wajunūdahumāand their hosts
مِنْهُم
min'humthrough them
مَّا
what
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey were
يَحْذَرُونَ
yaḥdharūnafearing
٦
(6)
And establish them in the land and show Pharaoh and [his minister] Hāmān and their soldiers through them that which they had feared.

وَأَوْحَيْنَآ
wa-awḥaynāAnd We inspired
إِلَىٰٓ
ilā[to]
أُمِّ
ummi(the) mother
مُوسَىٰٓ
mūsā(of) Musa
أَنْ
anthat
أَرْضِعِيهِ ۖ
arḍiʿīhiSuckle him
فَإِذَا
fa-idhābut when
خِفْتِ
khif'tiyou fear
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhifor him
فَأَلْقِيهِ
fa-alqīhithen cast him
فِى
in(to)
ٱلْيَمِّ
l-yamithe river
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تَخَافِى
takhāfīfear
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تَحْزَنِىٓ ۖ
taḥzanīgrieve
إِنَّا
innāIndeed, We
رَآدُّوهُ
rāddūhu(will) restore him
إِلَيْكِ
ilaykito you
وَجَاعِلُوهُ
wajāʿilūhuand (will) make him
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
l-mur'salīnathe Messengers
٧
(7)
And We inspired to the mother of Moses, "Suckle him; but when you fear for him, cast him into the river and do not fear and do not grieve. Indeed, We will return him to you and will make him [one] of the messengers."

فَٱلْتَقَطَهُۥٓ
fal-taqaṭahuThen picked him up
ءَالُ
ālu(the) family
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna(of) Firaun
لِيَكُونَ
liyakūnaso that he might become
لَهُمْ
lahumto them
عَدُوًّۭا
ʿaduwwanan enemy
وَحَزَنًا ۗ
waḥazananand a grief
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawnaFiraun
وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ
wahāmānaand Haman
وَجُنُودَهُمَا
wajunūdahumāand their hosts
كَانُوا۟
kānūwere
خَـٰطِـِٔينَ
khāṭiīnasinners
٨
(8)
And the family of Pharaoh picked him up [out of the river] so that he would become to them an enemy and a [cause of] grief. Indeed, Pharaoh and Hāmān and their soldiers were deliberate sinners.

وَقَالَتِ
waqālatiAnd said
ٱمْرَأَتُ
im'ra-atu(the) wife
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna(of) Firaun
قُرَّتُ
qurratuA comfort
عَيْنٍۢ
ʿaynin(of the) eye
لِّى
for me
وَلَكَ ۖ
walakaand for you
لَا
(Do) not
تَقْتُلُوهُ
taqtulūhukill him
عَسَىٰٓ
ʿasāperhaps
أَن
an(that)
يَنفَعَنَآ
yanfaʿanāhe may benefit us
أَوْ
awor
نَتَّخِذَهُۥ
nattakhidhahuwe may take him
وَلَدًۭا
waladan(as) a son
وَهُمْ
wahumAnd they
لَا
(did) not
يَشْعُرُونَ
yashʿurūnaperceive
٩
(9)
And the wife of Pharaoh said, "[He will be] a comfort of the eye [i.e., pleasure] for me and for you. Do not kill him; perhaps he may benefit us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceived not.

وَأَصْبَحَ
wa-aṣbaḥaAnd became
فُؤَادُ
fuādu(the) heart
أُمِّ
ummi(of the) mother
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā(of) Musa
فَـٰرِغًا ۖ
fārighanempty
إِن
inThat
كَادَتْ
kādatshe was near
لَتُبْدِى
latub'dī(to) disclosing
بِهِۦ
bihiabout him
لَوْلَآ
lawlāif not
أَن
anthat
رَّبَطْنَا
rabaṭnāWe strengthened
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā[over]
قَلْبِهَا
qalbihāher heart
لِتَكُونَ
litakūnaso that she would be
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
l-mu'minīnathe believers
١٠
(10)
And the heart of Moses' mother became empty [of all else]. She was about to disclose [the matter concerning] him had We not bound fast her heart that she would be of the believers.

وَقَالَتْ
waqālatAnd she said
لِأُخْتِهِۦ
li-ukh'tihito his sister
قُصِّيهِ ۖ
quṣṣīhiFollow him
فَبَصُرَتْ
fabaṣuratSo she watched
بِهِۦ
bihihim
عَن
ʿanfrom
جُنُبٍۢ
junubina distance
وَهُمْ
wahumwhile they
لَا
(did) not
يَشْعُرُونَ
yashʿurūnaperceive
١١
(11)
And she said to his sister, "Follow him"; so she watched him from a distance while they perceived not.

۞ وَحَرَّمْنَا
waḥarramnāAnd We had forbidden
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhifor him
ٱلْمَرَاضِعَ
l-marāḍiʿathe wet nurses
مِن
minbefore
قَبْلُ
qablubefore
فَقَالَتْ
faqālatso she said
هَلْ
halShall I
أَدُلُّكُمْ
adullukumdirect you
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalāto
أَهْلِ
ahli(the) people
بَيْتٍۢ
baytin(of) a house
يَكْفُلُونَهُۥ
yakfulūnahuwho will rear him
لَكُمْ
lakumfor you
وَهُمْ
wahumwhile they
لَهُۥ
lahuto him
نَـٰصِحُونَ
nāṣiḥūna(will be) sincere
١٢
(12)
And We had prevented from him [all] wet nurses before, so she said, "Shall I direct you to a household that will be responsible for him for you while they are to him [for his upbringing] sincere?"

فَرَدَدْنَـٰهُ
faradadnāhuSo We restored him
إِلَىٰٓ
ilāto
أُمِّهِۦ
ummihihis mother
كَىْ
kaythat
تَقَرَّ
taqarramight be comforted
عَيْنُهَا
ʿaynuhāher eye
وَلَا
walāand not
تَحْزَنَ
taḥzanashe may grieve
وَلِتَعْلَمَ
walitaʿlamaand that she would know
أَنَّ
annathat
وَعْدَ
waʿdathe Promise of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahithe Promise of Allah
حَقٌّۭ
ḥaqqun(is) true
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
walākinnaBut
أَكْثَرَهُمْ
aktharahummost of them
لَا
(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَ
yaʿlamūnaknow
١٣
(13)
So We restored him to his mother that she might be content and not grieve and that she would know that the promise of Allāh is true. But most of them [i.e., the people] do not know.

وَلَمَّا
walammāAnd when
بَلَغَ
balaghahe reached
أَشُدَّهُۥ
ashuddahuhis full strength
وَٱسْتَوَىٰٓ
wa-is'tawāand became mature
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ
ātaynāhuWe bestowed upon him
حُكْمًۭا
ḥuk'manwisdom
وَعِلْمًۭا ۚ
waʿil'manand knowledge
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālikaAnd thus
نَجْزِى
najzīWe reward
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
l-muḥ'sinīnathe good-doers
١٤
(14)
And when he attained his full strength and was [mentally] mature, We bestowed upon him judgement and knowledge. And thus do We reward the doers of good.

وَدَخَلَ
wadakhalaAnd he entered
ٱلْمَدِينَةَ
l-madīnatathe city
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāat
حِينِ
ḥīnia time
غَفْلَةٍۢ
ghaflatin(of) inattention
مِّنْ
minof
أَهْلِهَا
ahlihāits people
فَوَجَدَ
fawajadaand found
فِيهَا
fīhātherein
رَجُلَيْنِ
rajulaynitwo men
يَقْتَتِلَانِ
yaqtatilānifighting each other
هَـٰذَا
hādhāthis
مِن
minof
شِيعَتِهِۦ
shīʿatihihis party
وَهَـٰذَا
wahādhāand this
مِنْ
minof
عَدُوِّهِۦ ۖ
ʿaduwwihihis enemy
فَٱسْتَغَـٰثَهُ
fa-is'taghāthahuAnd called him for help
ٱلَّذِى
alladhīthe one who
مِن
min(was) from
شِيعَتِهِۦ
shīʿatihihis party
عَلَى
ʿalāagainst
ٱلَّذِى
alladhīthe one who
مِنْ
min(was) from
عَدُوِّهِۦ
ʿaduwwihihis enemy
فَوَكَزَهُۥ
fawakazahuso Musa struck him with his fist
مُوسَىٰ
mūsāso Musa struck him with his fist
فَقَضَىٰ
faqaḍāand killed him
عَلَيْهِ ۖ
ʿalayhiand killed him
قَالَ
qālaHe said
هَـٰذَا
hādhāThis (is)
مِنْ
minof
عَمَلِ
ʿamali(the) deed
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ۖ
l-shayṭāni(of) Shaitaan
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, he
عَدُوٌّۭ
ʿaduwwun(is) an enemy
مُّضِلٌّۭ
muḍillunone who misleads
مُّبِينٌۭ
mubīnunclearly
١٥
(15)
And he entered the city at a time of inattention by its people and found therein two men fighting: one from his faction and one from among his enemy. And the one from his faction called for help to him against the one from his enemy, so Moses struck him and [unintentionally] killed him. [Moses] said, "This is from the work of Satan. Indeed, he is a manifest, misleading enemy."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
رَبِّ
rabbiMy Lord
إِنِّى
innīIndeed, I
ظَلَمْتُ
ẓalamtu[I] have wronged
نَفْسِى
nafsīmy soul
فَٱغْفِرْ
fa-igh'firso forgive
لِى
[for] me
فَغَفَرَ
faghafaraThen He forgave
لَهُۥٓ ۚ
lahu[for] him
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed He
هُوَ
huwaHe (is)
ٱلْغَفُورُ
l-ghafūruthe Oft-Forgiving
ٱلرَّحِيمُ
l-raḥīmuthe Most Merciful
١٦
(16)
He said, "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me," and He forgave him. Indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.

قَالَ
qālaHe said
رَبِّ
rabbiMy Lord
بِمَآ
bimāBecause
أَنْعَمْتَ
anʿamtaYou have favored
عَلَىَّ
ʿalayya[on] me
فَلَنْ
falanso not
أَكُونَ
akūnaI will be
ظَهِيرًۭا
ẓahīrana supporter
لِّلْمُجْرِمِينَ
lil'muj'rimīna(of) the criminals
١٧
(17)
He said, "My Lord, for the favor You bestowed upon me, I will never be an assistant to the criminals."

فَأَصْبَحَ
fa-aṣbaḥaIn the morning he was
فِى
in
ٱلْمَدِينَةِ
l-madīnatithe city
خَآئِفًۭا
khāifanfearful
يَتَرَقَّبُ
yataraqqabu(and) was vigilant
فَإِذَا
fa-idhāwhen behold
ٱلَّذِى
alladhīThe one who
ٱسْتَنصَرَهُۥ
is'tanṣarahusought his help
بِٱلْأَمْسِ
bil-amsithe previous day
يَسْتَصْرِخُهُۥ ۚ
yastaṣrikhuhucried out to him for help
قَالَ
qālaSaid
لَهُۥ
lahuto him
مُوسَىٰٓ
mūsāMusa
إِنَّكَ
innakaIndeed, you
لَغَوِىٌّۭ
laghawiyyun(are) surely a deviator
مُّبِينٌۭ
mubīnunclear
١٨
(18)
And he became inside the city fearful and anticipating [exposure], when suddenly the one who sought his help the previous day cried out to him [once again]. Moses said to him, "Indeed, you are an evident, [persistent] deviator."

فَلَمَّآ
falammāThen when
أَنْ

yabṭishastrike
بِٱلَّذِى
bi-alladhīthe one who
هُوَ
huwa[he] (was)
عَدُوٌّۭ
ʿaduwwunan enemy
لَّهُمَا
lahumāto both of them
قَالَ
qālahe said
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ
yāmūsāO Musa
أَتُرِيدُ
aturīduDo you intend
أَن
anto
تَقْتُلَنِى
taqtulanīkill me
كَمَا
kamāas
قَتَلْتَ
qataltayou killed
نَفْسًۢا
nafsana person
بِٱلْأَمْسِ ۖ
bil-amsiyesterday
إِن
inNot
تُرِيدُ
turīduyou want
إِلَّآ
illābut
أَن
anthat
تَكُونَ
takūnayou become
جَبَّارًۭا
jabbārana tyrant
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
وَمَا
wamāand not
تُرِيدُ
turīduyou want
أَن
anthat
تَكُونَ
takūnayou be
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْمُصْلِحِينَ
l-muṣ'liḥīnathe reformers
١٩
(19)
And when he wanted to strike the one who was an enemy to both of them, he said, "O Moses, do you intend to kill me as you killed someone yesterday? You only want to be a tyrant in the land and do not want to be of the amenders."

وَجَآءَ
wajāaAnd came
رَجُلٌۭ
rajuluna man
مِّنْ
minfrom
أَقْصَا
aqṣā(the) farthest end
ٱلْمَدِينَةِ
l-madīnati(of) the city
يَسْعَىٰ
yasʿārunning
قَالَ
qālaHe said
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ
yāmūsāO Musa
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱلْمَلَأَ
l-mala-athe chiefs
يَأْتَمِرُونَ
yatamirūnaare taking counsel
بِكَ
bikaabout you
لِيَقْتُلُوكَ
liyaqtulūkato kill you
فَٱخْرُجْ
fa-ukh'rujso leave
إِنِّى
innīindeed, I am
لَكَ
lakato you
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلنَّـٰصِحِينَ
l-nāṣiḥīnathe sincere advisors
٢٠
(20)
And a man came from the farthest end of the city, running. He said, "O Moses, indeed the eminent ones are conferring over you [intending] to kill you, so leave [the city]; indeed, I am to you of the sincere advisors."

فَخَرَجَ
fakharajaSo he left
مِنْهَا
min'hāfrom it
خَآئِفًۭا
khāifanfearing
يَتَرَقَّبُ ۖ
yataraqqabu(and) vigilant
قَالَ
qālaHe said
رَبِّ
rabbiMy Lord
نَجِّنِى
najjinīSave me
مِنَ
minafrom
ٱلْقَوْمِ
l-qawmithe people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
٢١
(21)
So he left it, fearful and anticipating [apprehension]. He said, "My Lord, save me from the wrongdoing people."

وَلَمَّا
walammāAnd when
تَوَجَّهَ
tawajjahahe turned his face
تِلْقَآءَ
til'qāatowards
مَدْيَنَ
madyanaMadyan
قَالَ
qālahe said
عَسَىٰ
ʿasāPerhaps
رَبِّىٓ
rabbīmy Lord
أَن
an[that]
يَهْدِيَنِى
yahdiyanīwill guide me
سَوَآءَ
sawāa(to the) sound
ٱلسَّبِيلِ
l-sabīliway
٢٢
(22)
And when he directed himself toward Madyan, he said, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the sound way."

وَلَمَّا
walammāAnd when
وَرَدَ
waradahe came
مَآءَ
māa(to the) water
مَدْيَنَ
madyana(of) Madyan
وَجَدَ
wajadahe found
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhion it
أُمَّةًۭ
ummatana group
مِّنَ
minaof
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsimen
يَسْقُونَ
yasqūnawatering
وَوَجَدَ
wawajadaand he found
مِن
minbesides them
دُونِهِمُ
dūnihimubesides them
ٱمْرَأَتَيْنِ
im'ra-ataynitwo women
تَذُودَانِ ۖ
tadhūdānikeeping back
قَالَ
qālaHe said
مَا
What
خَطْبُكُمَا ۖ
khaṭbukumā(is the) matter with both of you
قَالَتَا
qālatāThey said
لَا
We cannot water
نَسْقِى
nasqīWe cannot water
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattāuntil
يُصْدِرَ
yuṣ'diratake away
ٱلرِّعَآءُ ۖ
l-riʿāuthe shepherds
وَأَبُونَا
wa-abūnāand our father
شَيْخٌۭ
shaykhun(is) a very old man
كَبِيرٌۭ
kabīrun(is) a very old man
٢٣
(23)
And when he came to the water [i.e., well] of Madyan, he found there a crowd of people watering [their flocks], and he found aside from them two women holding back [their flocks]. He said, "What is your circumstance?" They said, "We do not water until the shepherds dispatch [their flocks]; and our father is an old man."

فَسَقَىٰ
fasaqāSo he watered
لَهُمَا
lahumāfor them
ثُمَّ
thummaThen
تَوَلَّىٰٓ
tawallāhe turned back
إِلَى
ilāto
ٱلظِّلِّ
l-ẓilithe shade
فَقَالَ
faqālaand said
رَبِّ
rabbiMy Lord
إِنِّى
innīIndeed, I am
لِمَآ
limāof whatever
أَنزَلْتَ
anzaltaYou send
إِلَىَّ
ilayyato me
مِنْ
minof
خَيْرٍۢ
khayringood
فَقِيرٌۭ
faqīrun(in) need
٢٤
(24)
So he watered [their flocks] for them; then he went back to the shade and said, "My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need."

فَجَآءَتْهُ
fajāathuThen came to him
إِحْدَىٰهُمَا
iḥ'dāhumāone of the two women
تَمْشِى
tamshīwalking
عَلَى
ʿalāwith
ٱسْتِحْيَآءٍۢ
is'tiḥ'yāinshyness
قَالَتْ
qālatShe said
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
أَبِى
abīmy father
يَدْعُوكَ
yadʿūkacalls you
لِيَجْزِيَكَ
liyajziyakathat he may reward you
أَجْرَ
ajra(the) reward
مَا
(for) what
سَقَيْتَ
saqaytayou watered
لَنَا ۚ
lanāfor us
فَلَمَّا
falammāSo when
جَآءَهُۥ
jāahuhe came to him
وَقَصَّ
waqaṣṣaand narrated
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhito him
ٱلْقَصَصَ
l-qaṣaṣathe story
قَالَ
qālahe said
لَا
(Do) not
تَخَفْ ۖ
takhaffear
نَجَوْتَ
najawtaYou have escaped
مِنَ
minafrom
ٱلْقَوْمِ
l-qawmithe people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
٢٥
(25)
Then one of the two women came to him walking with shyness. She said, "Indeed, my father invites you that he may reward you for having watered for us." So when he came to him and related to him the story, he said, "Fear not. You have escaped from the wrongdoing people."

قَالَتْ
qālatSaid
إِحْدَىٰهُمَا
iḥ'dāhumāone of them
يَـٰٓأَبَتِ
yāabatiO my father
ٱسْتَـْٔجِرْهُ ۖ
is'tajir'huHire him
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
خَيْرَ
khayra(the) best
مَنِ
maniwhom
ٱسْتَـْٔجَرْتَ
is'tajartayou (can) hire
ٱلْقَوِىُّ
l-qawiyu(is) the strong
ٱلْأَمِينُ
l-amīnuthe trustworthy
٢٦
(26)
One of the women said, "O my father, hire him. Indeed, the best one you can hire is the strong and the trustworthy."

qālaHe said
إِنِّىٓ
innīIndeed, I
أُرِيدُ
urīdu[I] wish
أَنْ
anto
أُنكِحَكَ
unkiḥakamarry you to
إِحْدَى
iḥ'dāone
ٱبْنَتَىَّ
ib'natayya(of) my daughters
هَـٰتَيْنِ
hātayni(of) these two
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalāon
أَن
anthat
تَأْجُرَنِى
tajuranīyou serve me
ثَمَـٰنِىَ
thamāniya(for) eight
حِجَجٍۢ ۖ
ḥijajinyears
فَإِنْ
fa-inbut if
أَتْمَمْتَ
atmamtayou complete
عَشْرًۭا
ʿashranten
فَمِنْ
faminthen from
عِندِكَ ۖ
ʿindikayou
وَمَآ
wamāAnd not
أُرِيدُ
urīduI wish
أَنْ
anto
أَشُقَّ
ashuqqamake it difficult
عَلَيْكَ ۚ
ʿalaykafor you
سَتَجِدُنِىٓ
satajidunīYou will find me
إِن
inif
شَآءَ
shāaAllah wills
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah wills
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
l-ṣāliḥīnathe righteous
٢٧
(27)
He said, "Indeed, I wish to wed you one of these, my two daughters, on [the condition] that you serve me for eight years; but if you complete ten, it will be [as a favor] from you. And I do not wish to put you in difficulty. You will find me, if Allāh wills, from among the righteous."

qālaHe said
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
بَيْنِى
baynī(is) between me
وَبَيْنَكَ ۖ
wabaynakaand between you
أَيَّمَا
ayyamāWhichever
ٱلْأَجَلَيْنِ
l-ajalayni(of) the two terms
قَضَيْتُ
qaḍaytuI complete
فَلَا
falāthen no
عُدْوَٰنَ
ʿud'wānainjustice
عَلَىَّ ۖ
ʿalayyato me
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahuand Allah
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāover
مَا
what
نَقُولُ
naqūluwe say
وَكِيلٌۭ
wakīlun(is) a Witness
٢٨
(28)
[Moses] said, "That is [established] between me and you. Whichever of the two terms I complete - there is no injustice to me, and Allāh, over what we say, is Witness."

۞ فَلَمَّا
falammāThen when
قَضَىٰ
qaḍāMusa fulfilled
مُوسَى
mūsāMusa fulfilled
ٱلْأَجَلَ
l-ajalathe term
وَسَارَ
wasāraand was traveling
بِأَهْلِهِۦٓ
bi-ahlihiwith his family
ءَانَسَ
ānasahe saw
مِن
minin
جَانِبِ
jānibi(the) direction
ٱلطُّورِ
l-ṭūri(of) Mount Tur
نَارًۭا
nārana fire
قَالَ
qālaHe said
لِأَهْلِهِ
li-ahlihito his family
ٱمْكُثُوٓا۟
um'kuthūStay here
إِنِّىٓ
innīindeed, I
ءَانَسْتُ
ānastu[I] perceive
نَارًۭا
nārana fire
لَّعَلِّىٓ
laʿallīPerhaps
ءَاتِيكُم
ātīkumI will bring you
مِّنْهَا
min'hāfrom there
بِخَبَرٍ
bikhabarinsome information
أَوْ
awor
جَذْوَةٍۢ
jadhwatina burning wood
مِّنَ
minafrom
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nārithe fire
لَعَلَّكُمْ
laʿallakumso that you may
تَصْطَلُونَ
taṣṭalūnawarm yourselves
٢٩
(29)
And when Moses had completed the term and was traveling with his family, he perceived from the direction of the mount a fire. He said to his family, "Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire. Perhaps I will bring you from there [some] information or burning wood from the fire that you may warm yourselves."

فَلَمَّآ
falammāBut when
أَتَىٰهَا
atāhāhe came (to) it
نُودِىَ
nūdiyahe was called
مِن
minfrom
شَـٰطِئِ
shāṭi-i(the) side
ٱلْوَادِ
l-wādi(of) the valley
ٱلْأَيْمَنِ
l-aymanithe right
فِى
in
ٱلْبُقْعَةِ
l-buq'ʿatithe place even
ٱلْمُبَـٰرَكَةِ
l-mubārakatiblessed
مِنَ
minafrom
ٱلشَّجَرَةِ
l-shajaratithe tree
أَن
anthat
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ
yāmūsāO Musa
إِنِّىٓ
innīIndeed
أَنَا
anāI Am
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
رَبُّ
rabbu(the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
l-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds
٣٠
(30)
But when he came to it, he was called from the right side of the valley in a blessed spot - from the tree, "O Moses, indeed I am Allāh, Lord of the worlds."

وَأَنْ
wa-anAnd [that]
أَلْقِ
alqithrow
عَصَاكَ ۖ
ʿaṣākayour staff
فَلَمَّا
falammāBut when
رَءَاهَا
raāhāhe saw it
تَهْتَزُّ
tahtazzumoving
كَأَنَّهَا
ka-annahāas if it
جَآنٌّۭ
jānnun(were) a snake
وَلَّىٰ
wallāhe turned
مُدْبِرًۭا
mud'biran(in) flight
وَلَمْ
walamand (did) not
يُعَقِّبْ ۚ
yuʿaqqibreturn
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ
yāmūsāO Musa
أَقْبِلْ
aqbilDraw near
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تَخَفْ ۖ
takhaffear
إِنَّكَ
innakaIndeed, you
مِنَ
mina(are) of
ٱلْـَٔامِنِينَ
l-āminīnathe secure
٣١
(31)
And [he was told], "Throw down your staff." But when he saw it writhing as if it was a snake, he turned in flight and did not return. [Allāh said], "O Moses, approach and fear not. Indeed, you are of the secure.

ٱسْلُكْ
us'lukInsert
يَدَكَ
yadakayour hand
فِى
in
جَيْبِكَ
jaybikayour bosom
تَخْرُجْ
takhrujit will come forth
بَيْضَآءَ
bayḍāawhite
مِنْ
minwithout
غَيْرِ
ghayriwithout
سُوٓءٍۢ
sūinany harm
وَٱضْمُمْ
wa-uḍ'mumAnd draw
إِلَيْكَ
ilaykato yourselves
جَنَاحَكَ
janāḥakayour hand
مِنَ
minaagainst
ٱلرَّهْبِ ۖ
l-rahbifear
فَذَٰنِكَ
fadhānikaSo these
بُرْهَـٰنَانِ
bur'hānāni(are) two evidences
مِن
minfrom
رَّبِّكَ
rabbikayour Lord
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawnaFiraun
وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦٓ ۚ
wamala-ihiand his chiefs
إِنَّهُمْ
innahumIndeed, they
كَانُوا۟
kānūare
قَوْمًۭا
qawmana people
فَـٰسِقِينَ
fāsiqīnadefiantly disobedient
٣٢
(32)
Insert your hand into the opening of your garment; it will come out white, without disease. And draw in your arm close to you [as prevention] from fear, for those are two proofs from your Lord to Pharaoh and his establishment. Indeed, they have been a people defiantly disobedient."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
رَبِّ
rabbiMy Lord
إِنِّى
innīIndeed
قَتَلْتُ
qataltuI killed
مِنْهُمْ
min'humof them
نَفْسًۭا
nafsana man
فَأَخَافُ
fa-akhāfuand I fear
أَن
anthat
يَقْتُلُونِ
yaqtulūnithey will kill me
٣٣
(33)
He said, "My Lord, indeed I killed from among them someone, and I fear they will kill me.

وَأَخِى
wa-akhīAnd my brother
هَـٰرُونُ
hārūnuHarun
هُوَ
huwahe
أَفْصَحُ
afṣaḥu(is) more eloquent
مِنِّى
minnīthan me
لِسَانًۭا
lisānan(in) speech
فَأَرْسِلْهُ
fa-arsil'huso send him
مَعِىَ
maʿiyawith me
رِدْءًۭا
rid'an(as) a helper
يُصَدِّقُنِىٓ ۖ
yuṣaddiqunīwho will confirm me
إِنِّىٓ
innīIndeed
أَخَافُ
akhāfuI fear
أَن
anthat
يُكَذِّبُونِ
yukadhibūnithey will deny me
٣٤
(34)
And my brother Aaron is more fluent than me in tongue, so send him with me as support, verifying me. Indeed, I fear that they will deny me."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
سَنَشُدُّ
sanashudduWe will strengthen
عَضُدَكَ
ʿaḍudakayour arm
بِأَخِيكَ
bi-akhīkathrough your brother
وَنَجْعَلُ
wanajʿaluand We will make
لَكُمَا
lakumāfor both of you
سُلْطَـٰنًۭا
sul'ṭānanan authority
فَلَا
falāso not
يَصِلُونَ
yaṣilūnathey will reach
إِلَيْكُمَا ۚ
ilaykumāto both of you
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ
biāyātināThrough Our Signs
أَنتُمَا
antumāyou two
وَمَنِ
wamaniand (those) who
ٱتَّبَعَكُمَا
ittabaʿakumāfollow you
ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ
l-ghālibūna(will) be the dominant
٣٥
(35)
[Allāh] said, "We will strengthen your arm through your brother and grant you both supremacy so they will not reach you. [It will be] through Our signs; you and those who follow you will be the predominant."

فَلَمَّا
falammāBut when
جَآءَهُم
jāahumcame to them
مُّوسَىٰ
mūsāMusa
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا
biāyātināwith Our Signs
بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ
bayyinātinclear
قَالُوا۟
qālūthey said
مَا
Not
هَـٰذَآ
hādhā(is) this
إِلَّا
illāexcept
سِحْرٌۭ
siḥ'runa magic
مُّفْتَرًۭى
muf'taraninvented
وَمَا
wamāand not
سَمِعْنَا
samiʿ'nāwe heard
بِهَـٰذَا
bihādhāof this
فِىٓ
among
ءَابَآئِنَا
ābāināour forefathers
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
l-awalīnaour forefathers
٣٦
(36)
But when Moses came to them with Our signs as clear evidences, they said, "This is not except invented magic, and we have not heard of this [religion] among our forefathers."

وَقَالَ
waqālaAnd Musa said
مُوسَىٰ
mūsāAnd Musa said
رَبِّىٓ
rabbīMy Lord
أَعْلَمُ
aʿlamuknows best
بِمَن
bimanof who
جَآءَ
jāahas come
بِٱلْهُدَىٰ
bil-hudāwith [the] guidance
مِنْ
minfrom Him
عِندِهِۦ
ʿindihifrom Him
وَمَن
wamanand who
تَكُونُ
takūnuwill be
لَهُۥ
lahufor him
عَـٰقِبَةُ
ʿāqibatuthe good end in the Hereafter
ٱلدَّارِ ۖ
l-dārithe good end in the Hereafter
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed
لَا
not
يُفْلِحُ
yuf'liḥuwill be successful
ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ
l-ẓālimūnathe wrongdoers
٣٧
(37)
And Moses said, "My Lord is more knowing [than we or you] of who has come with guidance from Him and to whom will be succession in the home. Indeed, wrongdoers do not succeed."

وَقَالَ
waqālaAnd Firaun said
فِرْعَوْنُ
fir'ʿawnuAnd Firaun said
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhāO chiefs
ٱلْمَلَأُ
l-mala-uO chiefs
مَا
Not
عَلِمْتُ
ʿalim'tuI know
لَكُم
lakumfor you
مِّنْ
minany
إِلَـٰهٍ
ilāhingod
غَيْرِى
ghayrīother than me
فَأَوْقِدْ
fa-awqidSo kindle
لِى
for me
يَـٰهَـٰمَـٰنُ
yāhāmānuO Haman
عَلَى
ʿalāUpon
ٱلطِّينِ
l-ṭīnithe clay
فَٱجْعَل
fa-ij'ʿaland make
لِّى
for me
صَرْحًۭا
ṣarḥana lofty tower
لَّعَلِّىٓ
laʿallīso that [I]
أَطَّلِعُ
aṭṭaliʿuI may look
إِلَىٰٓ
ilāat
إِلَـٰهِ
ilāhi(the) God
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā(of) Musa
وَإِنِّى
wa-innīAnd indeed, I
لَأَظُنُّهُۥ
la-aẓunnuhu[I] think that he
مِنَ
mina(is) of
ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ
l-kādhibīnathe liars
٣٨
(38)
And Pharaoh said, "O eminent ones, I have not known you to have a god other than me. Then ignite for me, O Hāmān, [a fire] upon the clay and make for me a tower that I may look at the God of Moses. And indeed, I do think he is among the liars."

وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ
wa-is'takbaraAnd he was arrogant
هُوَ
huwaAnd he was arrogant
وَجُنُودُهُۥ
wajunūduhuand his hosts
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe land
بِغَيْرِ
bighayriwithout
ٱلْحَقِّ
l-ḥaqiright
وَظَنُّوٓا۟
waẓannūand they thought
أَنَّهُمْ
annahumthat they
إِلَيْنَا
ilaynāto Us
لَا
not
يُرْجَعُونَ
yur'jaʿūnawill be returned
٣٩
(39)
And he was arrogant, he and his soldiers, in the land, without right, and they thought that they would not be returned to Us.

40
فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُ
fa-akhadhnāhuSo We seized him
وَجُنُودَهُۥ
wajunūdahuand his hosts
فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُمْ
fanabadhnāhumand We threw them
فِى
in
ٱلْيَمِّ ۖ
l-yamithe sea
فَٱنظُرْ
fa-unẓurSo see
كَيْفَ
kayfahow
كَانَ
kānawas
عَـٰقِبَةُ
ʿāqibatu(the) end
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīna(of) the wrongdoers
٤٠
(40)
So We took him and his soldiers and threw them into the sea. So see how was the end of the wrongdoers.

41
وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ
wajaʿalnāhumAnd We made them
أَئِمَّةًۭ
a-immatanleaders
يَدْعُونَ
yadʿūnainviting
إِلَى
ilāto
ٱلنَّارِ ۖ
l-nārithe Fire
وَيَوْمَ
wayawmaand (on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
لَا
not
يُنصَرُونَ
yunṣarūnathey will be helped
٤١
(41)
And We made them leaders inviting to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection they will not be helped.

وَأَتْبَعْنَـٰهُمْ
wa-atbaʿnāhumAnd We caused to follow them
فِى
in
هَـٰذِهِ
hādhihithis
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yāworld
لَعْنَةًۭ ۖ
laʿnatana curse
وَيَوْمَ
wayawmaand (on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
هُم
humthey
مِّنَ
mina(will be) of
ٱلْمَقْبُوحِينَ
l-maqbūḥīnathe despised
٤٢
(42)
And We caused to overtake them in this world a curse, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be of the despised.

وَلَقَدْ
walaqadAnd verily
ءَاتَيْنَا
ātaynāWe gave
مُوسَى
mūsāMusa
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ
l-kitābathe Scripture
مِنۢ
minafter [what]
بَعْدِ
baʿdiafter [what]
مَآ
after [what]
أَهْلَكْنَا
ahlaknāWe had destroyed
ٱلْقُرُونَ
l-qurūnathe generations
ٱلْأُولَىٰ
l-ūlāformer
بَصَآئِرَ
baṣāira(as) an enlightenment
لِلنَّاسِ
lilnnāsifor the mankind
وَهُدًۭى
wahudanand a guidance
وَرَحْمَةًۭ
waraḥmatanand mercy
لَّعَلَّهُمْ
laʿallahumthat they may
يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
yatadhakkarūnaremember
٤٣
(43)
And We gave Moses the Scripture, after We had destroyed the former generations, as enlightenment for the people and guidance and mercy that they might be reminded.

وَمَا
wamāAnd not
كُنتَ
kuntayou were
بِجَانِبِ
bijānibion (the) side
ٱلْغَرْبِىِّ
l-gharbiyiwestern
إِذْ
idhwhen
قَضَيْنَآ
qaḍaynāWe decreed
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
مُوسَى
mūsāMusa
ٱلْأَمْرَ
l-amrathe Commandment
وَمَا
wamāand not
كُنتَ
kuntayou were
مِنَ
minaamong
ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ
l-shāhidīnathe witnesses
٤٤
(44)
And you, [O Muḥammad], were not on the western side [of the mount] when We revealed to Moses the command, and you were not among the witnesses [to that].

وَلَـٰكِنَّآ
walākinnāBut We
أَنشَأْنَا
anshanā[We] produced
قُرُونًۭا
qurūnangenerations
فَتَطَاوَلَ
fataṭāwalaand prolonged
عَلَيْهِمُ
ʿalayhimufor them
ٱلْعُمُرُ ۚ
l-ʿumuruthe life
وَمَا
wamāAnd not
كُنتَ
kuntayou were
ثَاوِيًۭا
thāwiyana dweller
فِىٓ
among
أَهْلِ
ahli(the) people
مَدْيَنَ
madyana(of) Madyan
تَتْلُوا۟
tatlūreciting
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhimto them
ءَايَـٰتِنَا
āyātināOur Verses
وَلَـٰكِنَّا
walākinnābut We
كُنَّا
kunnā[We] were
مُرْسِلِينَ
mur'silīnathe Senders
٤٥
(45)
But We produced [many] generations [after Moses], and prolonged was their duration. And you were not a resident among the people of Madyan, reciting to them Our verses, but We were senders [of this message].

وَمَا
wamāAnd not
كُنتَ
kuntayou were
بِجَانِبِ
bijānibiat (the) side
ٱلطُّورِ
l-ṭūri(of) the Tur
إِذْ
idhwhen
نَادَيْنَا
nādaynāWe called
وَلَـٰكِن
walākinBut
رَّحْمَةًۭ
raḥmatan(as) a mercy
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّكَ
rabbikayour Lord
لِتُنذِرَ
litundhiraso that you warn
قَوْمًۭا
qawmana people
مَّآ
not
أَتَىٰهُم
atāhum(had) come to them
مِّن
minany
نَّذِيرٍۢ
nadhīrinwarner
مِّن
minbefore you
قَبْلِكَ
qablikabefore you
لَعَلَّهُمْ
laʿallahumso that they may
يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
yatadhakkarūnaremember
٤٦
(46)
And you were not at the side of the mount when We called [Moses] but [were sent] as a mercy from your Lord to warn a people to whom no warner had come before you that they might be reminded.

وَلَوْلَآ
walawlāAnd if not
أَن
an[that]
تُصِيبَهُم
tuṣībahumstruck them
مُّصِيبَةٌۢ
muṣībatuna disaster
بِمَا
bimāfor what
قَدَّمَتْ
qaddamathad sent forth
أَيْدِيهِمْ
aydīhimtheir hands
فَيَقُولُوا۟
fayaqūlūand they would say
رَبَّنَا
rabbanāOur Lord
لَوْلَآ
lawlāWhy not
أَرْسَلْتَ
arsaltaYou sent
إِلَيْنَا
ilaynāto us
رَسُولًۭا
rasūlana Messenger
فَنَتَّبِعَ
fanattabiʿaso we (could have) followed
ءَايَـٰتِكَ
āyātikaYour Verses
وَنَكُونَ
wanakūnaand we (would) have been
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
l-mu'minīnathe believers
٤٧
(47)
And if not that a disaster should strike them for what their hands put forth [of sins] and they would say, "Our Lord, why did You not send us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses and been among the believers?"...

فَلَمَّا
falammāBut when
جَآءَهُمُ
jāahumucame to them
ٱلْحَقُّ
l-ḥaquthe truth
مِنْ
minfrom Us
عِندِنَا
ʿindināfrom Us
قَالُوا۟
qālūthey said
لَوْلَآ
lawlāWhy not
أُوتِىَ
ūtiyahe was given
مِثْلَ
mith'la(the) like
مَآ
(of) what
أُوتِىَ
ūtiyawas given
مُوسَىٰٓ ۚ
mūsā(to) Musa
أَوَلَمْ
awalamDid not
يَكْفُرُوا۟
yakfurūthey disbelieve
بِمَآ
bimāin what
أُوتِىَ
ūtiyawas given
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā(to) Musa
مِن
minbefore
قَبْلُ ۖ
qablubefore
قَالُوا۟
qālūThey said
سِحْرَانِ
siḥ'rāniTwo magic (works)
تَظَـٰهَرَا
taẓāharāsupporting each other
وَقَالُوٓا۟
waqālūAnd they said
إِنَّا
innāIndeed, we
بِكُلٍّۢ
bikullinin all
كَـٰفِرُونَ
kāfirūna(are) disbelievers
٤٨
(48)
But when the truth came to them from Us, they said, "Why was he not given like that which was given to Moses?" Did they not disbelieve in that which was given to Moses before? They said, "[They are but] two works of magic supporting each other, and indeed we are, in both, disbelievers."

قُلْ
qulSay
فَأْتُوا۟
fatūThen bring
بِكِتَـٰبٍۢ
bikitābina Book
مِّنْ
minfrom Allah
عِندِ
ʿindifrom Allah
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahifrom Allah
هُوَ
huwawhich
أَهْدَىٰ
ahdā(is) a better guide
مِنْهُمَآ
min'humāthan both of them
أَتَّبِعْهُ
attabiʿ'huthat I may follow it
إِن
inif
كُنتُمْ
kuntumyou are
صَـٰدِقِينَ
ṣādiqīnatruthful
٤٩
(49)
Say, "Then bring a scripture from Allāh which is more guiding than either of them that I may follow it, if you should be truthful."

فَإِن
fa-inBut if
لَّمْ
lamnot
يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟
yastajībūthey respond
لَكَ
lakato you
فَٱعْلَمْ
fa-iʿ'lamthen know
أَنَّمَا
annamāthat only
يَتَّبِعُونَ
yattabiʿūnathey follow
أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ
ahwāahumtheir desires
وَمَنْ
wamanAnd who
أَضَلُّ
aḍallu(is) more astray
مِمَّنِ
mimmanithan (one) who
ٱتَّبَعَ
ittabaʿafollows
هَوَىٰهُ
hawāhuhis own desire
بِغَيْرِ
bighayriwithout
هُدًۭى
hudanguidance
مِّنَ
minafrom
ٱللَّهِ ۚ
l-lahiAllah
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
لَا
(does) not
يَهْدِى
yahdīguide
ٱلْقَوْمَ
l-qawmathe people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
٥٠
(50)
But if they do not respond to you - then know that they only follow their [own] desires. And who is more astray than one who follows his desire without guidance from Allāh? Indeed, Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people.

۞ وَلَقَدْ
walaqadAnd indeed
وَصَّلْنَا
waṣṣalnāWe have conveyed
لَهُمُ
lahumuto them
ٱلْقَوْلَ
l-qawlathe Word
لَعَلَّهُمْ
laʿallahumso that they may
يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
yatadhakkarūnaremember
٥١
(51)
And We have [repeatedly] conveyed to them the word [i.e., the Qur’ān] that they might be reminded.

alladhīnaThose who
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ
ātaynāhumuWe gave them
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ
l-kitābathe Scripture
مِن
minbefore it
قَبْلِهِۦ
qablihibefore it
هُم
humthey
بِهِۦ
bihiin it
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūnabelieve
٥٢
(52)
Those to whom We gave the Scripture before it - they are believers in it.

وَإِذَا
wa-idhāAnd when
يُتْلَىٰ
yut'lāit is recited
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhimto them
قَالُوٓا۟
qālūthey say
ءَامَنَّا
āmannāWe believe
بِهِۦٓ
bihiin it
إِنَّهُ
innahuIndeed, it
ٱلْحَقُّ
l-ḥaqu(is) the truth
مِن
minfrom
رَّبِّنَآ
rabbināour Lord
إِنَّا
innāIndeed, we
كُنَّا
kunnā[we] were
مِن
minbefore it
قَبْلِهِۦ
qablihibefore it
مُسْلِمِينَ
mus'limīnaMuslims
٥٣
(53)
And when it is recited to them, they say, "We have believed in it; indeed, it is the truth from our Lord. Indeed we were, [even] before it, Muslims [i.e., submitting to Allāh]."

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāikaThose
يُؤْتَوْنَ
yu'tawnawill be given
أَجْرَهُم
ajrahumtheir reward
مَّرَّتَيْنِ
marrataynitwice
بِمَا
bimābecause
صَبَرُوا۟
ṣabarūthey are patient
وَيَدْرَءُونَ
wayadraūnaand they repel
بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ
bil-ḥasanatiwith good
ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ
l-sayi-atathe evil
وَمِمَّا
wamimmāand from what
رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ
razaqnāhumWe have provided them
يُنفِقُونَ
yunfiqūnathey spend
٥٤
(54)
Those will be given their reward twice for what they patiently endured and [because] they avert evil through good, and from what We have provided them they spend.

وَإِذَا
wa-idhāAnd when
سَمِعُوا۟
samiʿūthey hear
ٱللَّغْوَ
l-laghwavain talk
أَعْرَضُوا۟
aʿraḍūthey turn away
عَنْهُ
ʿanhufrom it
وَقَالُوا۟
waqālūand say
لَنَآ
lanāFor us
أَعْمَـٰلُنَا
aʿmālunāour deeds
وَلَكُمْ
walakumand for you
أَعْمَـٰلُكُمْ
aʿmālukumyour deeds
سَلَـٰمٌ
salāmunPeace (be)
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykumon you
لَا
not
نَبْتَغِى
nabtaghīwe seek
ٱلْجَـٰهِلِينَ
l-jāhilīnathe ignorant
٥٥
(55)
And when they hear ill speech, they turn away from it and say, "For us are our deeds, and for you are your deeds. Peace will be upon you; we seek not the ignorant."

إِنَّكَ
innakaIndeed, you
لَا
(can) not
تَهْدِى
tahdīguide
مَنْ
manwhom
أَحْبَبْتَ
aḥbabtayou love
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
walākinnabut
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
يَهْدِى
yahdīguides
مَن
manwhom
يَشَآءُ ۚ
yashāuHe wills
وَهُوَ
wahuwaAnd He
أَعْلَمُ
aʿlamu(is) most knowing
بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ
bil-muh'tadīna(of) the guided ones
٥٦
(56)
Indeed, [O Muḥammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allāh guides whom He wills. And He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided.

وَقَالُوٓا۟
waqālūAnd they say
إِن
inIf
نَّتَّبِعِ
nattabiʿiwe follow
ٱلْهُدَىٰ
l-hudāthe guidance
مَعَكَ
maʿakawith you
نُتَخَطَّفْ
nutakhaṭṭafwe would be swept
مِنْ
minfrom
أَرْضِنَآ ۚ
arḍināour land
أَوَلَمْ
awalamHave not
نُمَكِّن
numakkinWe established
لَّهُمْ
lahumfor them
حَرَمًا
ḥaramana sanctuary
ءَامِنًۭا
āminansecure
يُجْبَىٰٓ
yuj'bāare brought
إِلَيْهِ
ilayhito it
ثَمَرَٰتُ
thamarātufruits
كُلِّ
kulli(of) all
شَىْءٍۢ
shayinthings
رِّزْقًۭا
riz'qana provision
مِّن
minfrom
لَّدُنَّا
ladunnāUs
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
walākinnaBut
أَكْثَرَهُمْ
aktharahummost of them
لَا
(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَ
yaʿlamūnaknow
٥٧
(57)
And they [i.e., the Quraysh] say, "If we were to follow the guidance with you, we would be swept from our land." Have We not established for them a safe sanctuary to which are brought the fruits of all things as provision from Us? But most of them do not know.

وَكَمْ
wakamAnd how many
أَهْلَكْنَا
ahlaknāWe have destroyed
مِن
minof
قَرْيَةٍۭ
qaryatina town
بَطِرَتْ
baṭiratwhich exulted
مَعِيشَتَهَا ۖ
maʿīshatahā(in) its means of livelihood
فَتِلْكَ
fatil'kaAnd these
مَسَـٰكِنُهُمْ
masākinuhum(are) their dwellings
لَمْ
lamnot
تُسْكَن
tus'kanhave been inhabited
مِّنۢ
minafter them
بَعْدِهِمْ
baʿdihimafter them
إِلَّا
illāexcept
قَلِيلًۭا ۖ
qalīlana little
وَكُنَّا
wakunnāAnd indeed, [We]
نَحْنُ
naḥnuWe
ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ
l-wārithīna(are) the inheritors
٥٨
(58)
And how many a city have We destroyed that was insolent in its [way of] living, and those are their dwellings which have not been inhabited after them except briefly. And it is We who were the inheritors.

wamāAnd not
كَانَ
kānawas
رَبُّكَ
rabbukayour Lord
مُهْلِكَ
muh'lika(the) one to destroy
ٱلْقُرَىٰ
l-qurāthe towns
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattāuntil
يَبْعَثَ
yabʿathaHe (had) sent
فِىٓ
in
أُمِّهَا
ummihātheir mother (town)
رَسُولًۭا
rasūlana Messenger
يَتْلُوا۟
yatlūreciting
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhimto them
ءَايَـٰتِنَا ۚ
āyātināOur Verses
وَمَا
wamāAnd not
كُنَّا
kunnāWe would be
مُهْلِكِى
muh'likī(the) one to destroy
ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ
l-qurāthe towns
إِلَّا
illāexcept
وَأَهْلُهَا
wa-ahluhāwhile their people
ظَـٰلِمُونَ
ẓālimūna(were) wrongdoers
٥٩
(59)
And never would your Lord have destroyed the cities until He had sent to their mother [i.e., principal city] a messenger reciting to them Our verses. And We would not destroy the cities except while their people were wrongdoers.

وَمَآ
wamāAnd whatever
أُوتِيتُم
ūtītumyou have been given
مِّن
minfrom
شَىْءٍۢ
shayinthings
فَمَتَـٰعُ
famatāʿu(is) an enjoyment
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayati(of the) life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā(of) the world
وَزِينَتُهَا ۚ
wazīnatuhāand its adornment
وَمَا
wamāAnd what
عِندَ
ʿinda(is) with
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
خَيْرٌۭ
khayrun(is) better
وَأَبْقَىٰٓ ۚ
wa-abqāand more lasting
أَفَلَا
afalāSo (will) not
تَعْقِلُونَ
taʿqilūnayou use intellect
٦٠
(60)
And whatever thing you [people] have been given - it is [only for] the enjoyment of worldly life and its adornment. And what is with Allāh is better and more lasting; so will you not use reason?

أَفَمَن
afamanThen is (he) whom
وَعَدْنَـٰهُ
waʿadnāhuWe have promised him
وَعْدًا
waʿdana promise
حَسَنًۭا
ḥasanangood
فَهُوَ
fahuwaand he
لَـٰقِيهِ
lāqīhi(will) meet it
كَمَن
kamanlike (the one) whom
مَّتَّعْنَـٰهُ
mattaʿnāhuWe provided him
مَتَـٰعَ
matāʿaenjoyment
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayati(of the) life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā(of) the world
ثُمَّ
thummathen
هُوَ
huwahe
يَوْمَ
yawma(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
مِنَ
mina(will be) among
ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَ
l-muḥ'ḍarīnathose presented
٦١
(61)
Then is he whom We have promised a good promise which he will meet [i.e., obtain] like he for whom We provided enjoyment of worldly life [but] then he is, on the Day of Resurrection, among those presented [for punishment in Hell]?

يُنَادِيهِمْ
yunādīhimHe will call them
فَيَقُولُ
fayaqūluand say
أَيْنَ
aynaWhere
شُرَكَآءِىَ
shurakāiya(are) My partners
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnawhom
كُنتُمْ
kuntumyou used (to)
تَزْعُمُونَ
tazʿumūnaclaim
٦٢
(62)
And [warn of] the Day He will call them and say, "Where are My 'partners' which you used to claim?"

qāla(Will) say
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose
حَقَّ
ḥaqqa(has) come true
عَلَيْهِمُ
ʿalayhimuagainst whom
ٱلْقَوْلُ
l-qawluthe Word
رَبَّنَا
rabbanāOur Lord
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ
hāulāiThese
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna(are) those whom
أَغْوَيْنَآ
aghwaynāwe led astray
أَغْوَيْنَـٰهُمْ
aghwaynāhumWe led them astray
كَمَا
kamāas
غَوَيْنَا ۖ
ghawaynāwe were astray
تَبَرَّأْنَآ
tabarranāWe declare our innocence
إِلَيْكَ ۖ
ilaykabefore You
مَا
Not
كَانُوٓا۟
kānūthey used (to)
إِيَّانَا
iyyānāworship us
يَعْبُدُونَ
yaʿbudūnaworship us
٦٣
(63)
Those upon whom the word will have come into effect will say, "Our Lord, these are the ones we led to error. We led them to error just as we were in error. We declare our disassociation [from them] to You. They did not used to worship [i.e., obey] us."

وَقِيلَ
waqīlaAnd it will be said
ٱدْعُوا۟
id'ʿūCall
شُرَكَآءَكُمْ
shurakāakumyour partners
فَدَعَوْهُمْ
fadaʿawhumAnd they will call them
فَلَمْ
falambut not
يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟
yastajībūthey will respond
لَهُمْ
lahumto them
وَرَأَوُا۟
wara-awūand they will see
ٱلْعَذَابَ ۚ
l-ʿadhābathe punishment
لَوْ
lawIf only
أَنَّهُمْ
annahum[that] they
كَانُوا۟
kānūhad been
يَهْتَدُونَ
yahtadūnaguided
٦٤
(64)
And it will be said, "Invoke your 'partners,'" and they will invoke them; but they will not respond to them, and they will see the punishment. If only they had followed guidance!

وَيَوْمَ
wayawmaAnd (the) Day
يُنَادِيهِمْ
yunādīhimHe will call them
فَيَقُولُ
fayaqūluand say
مَاذَآ
mādhāWhat
أَجَبْتُمُ
ajabtumudid you answer
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
l-mur'salīnathe Messengers
٦٥
(65)
And [mention] the Day He will call them and say, "What did you answer the messengers?"

فَعَمِيَتْ
faʿamiyatBut (will) be obscure
عَلَيْهِمُ
ʿalayhimuto them
ٱلْأَنۢبَآءُ
l-anbāuthe information
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ
yawma-idhinthat day
فَهُمْ
fahumso they
لَا
will not ask one another
يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
yatasāalūnawill not ask one another
٦٦
(66)
But the information will be unapparent to them that Day, so they will not [be able to] ask one another.

فَأَمَّا
fa-ammāBut as for
مَن
man(him) who
تَابَ
tābarepented
وَءَامَنَ
waāmanaand believed
وَعَمِلَ
waʿamilaand did
صَـٰلِحًۭا
ṣāliḥanrighteousness
فَعَسَىٰٓ
faʿasāthen perhaps
أَن
an[that]
يَكُونَ
yakūnahe will be
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْمُفْلِحِينَ
l-muf'liḥīnathe successful ones
٦٧
(67)
But as for one who had repented, believed, and done righteousness, it is expected [i.e., promised by Allāh] that he will be among the successful.

وَرَبُّكَ
warabbukaAnd your Lord
يَخْلُقُ
yakhluqucreates
مَا
what
يَشَآءُ
yashāuHe wills
وَيَخْتَارُ ۗ
wayakhtāruand chooses
مَا
Not
كَانَ
kānathey have
لَهُمُ
lahumufor them
ٱلْخِيَرَةُ ۚ
l-khiyaratuthe choice
سُبْحَـٰنَ
sub'ḥānaGlory be
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(to) Allah
وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ
wataʿālāand High is He
عَمَّا
ʿammāabove what
يُشْرِكُونَ
yush'rikūnathey associate (with Him)
٦٨
(68)
And your Lord creates what He wills and chooses; not for them was the choice. Exalted is Allāh and high above what they associate with Him.

وَرَبُّكَ
warabbukaAnd your Lord
يَعْلَمُ
yaʿlamuknows
مَا
what
تُكِنُّ
tukinnuconceals
صُدُورُهُمْ
ṣudūruhumtheir breasts
وَمَا
wamāand what
يُعْلِنُونَ
yuʿ'linūnathey declare
٦٩
(69)
And your Lord knows what their breasts conceal and what they declare.

وَهُوَ
wahuwaAnd He
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu(is) Allah
لَآ
(there is) no
إِلَـٰهَ
ilāhagod
إِلَّا
illābut
هُوَ ۖ
huwaHe
لَهُ
lahuTo Him
ٱلْحَمْدُ
l-ḥamdu(are due) all praises
فِى
in
ٱلْأُولَىٰ
l-ūlāthe first
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۖ
wal-ākhiratiand the last
وَلَهُ
walahuAnd for Him
ٱلْحُكْمُ
l-ḥuk'mu(is) the Decision
وَإِلَيْهِ
wa-ilayhiand to Him
تُرْجَعُونَ
tur'jaʿūnayou will be returned
٧٠
(70)
And He is Allāh; there is no deity except Him. To Him is [due all] praise in the first [life] and the Hereafter. And His is the [final] decision, and to Him you will be returned.

يَوْمِ
yawmi(the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
مَنْ
manwho
إِلَـٰهٌ
ilāhun(is the) god
غَيْرُ
ghayrubesides
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
يَأْتِيكُم
yatīkumwho could bring you
بِضِيَآءٍ ۖ
biḍiyāinlight
أَفَلَا
afalāThen will not
تَسْمَعُونَ
tasmaʿūnayou hear
٧١
(71)
Say, "Have you considered: if Allāh should make for you the night continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allāh could bring you light? Then will you not hear?"

سَرْمَدًا

إِلَىٰ

يَوْمِ
yawmi(the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
مَنْ
manwho
إِلَـٰهٌ
ilāhun(is the) god
غَيْرُ
ghayrubesides
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
يَأْتِيكُم
yatīkumwho could bring you
بِلَيْلٍۢ
bilaylinnight
تَسْكُنُونَ
taskunūna(for) you (to) rest
فِيهِ ۖ
fīhiin it
أَفَلَا
afalāThen will not
تُبْصِرُونَ
tub'ṣirūnayou see
٧٢
(72)
Say, "Have you considered: if Allāh should make for you the day continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allāh could bring you a night in which you may rest? Then will you not see?"

وَمِن
waminAnd from
رَّحْمَتِهِۦ
raḥmatihiHis Mercy
جَعَلَ
jaʿalaHe made
لَكُمُ
lakumufor you
ٱلَّيْلَ
al-laylathe night
وَٱلنَّهَارَ
wal-nahāraand the day
لِتَسْكُنُوا۟
litaskunūthat you may rest
فِيهِ
fīhitherein
وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟
walitabtaghūand that you may seek
مِن
minfrom
فَضْلِهِۦ
faḍlihiHis Bounty
وَلَعَلَّكُمْ
walaʿallakumand so that you may
تَشْكُرُونَ
tashkurūnabe grateful
٧٣
(73)
And out of His mercy He made for you the night and the day that you may rest therein and [by day] seek from His bounty and [that] perhaps you will be grateful.

وَيَوْمَ
wayawmaAnd (the) Day
يُنَادِيهِمْ
yunādīhimHe will call them
فَيَقُولُ
fayaqūluand say
أَيْنَ
aynaWhere
شُرَكَآءِىَ
shurakāiya(are) My partners
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnawhom
كُنتُمْ
kuntumyou used (to)
تَزْعُمُونَ
tazʿumūnaclaim
٧٤
(74)
And [warn of] the Day He will call them and say, "Where are My 'partners' which you used to claim?"

wanazaʿnāAnd We will draw forth
مِن
minfrom
كُلِّ
kullievery
أُمَّةٍۢ
ummatinnation
شَهِيدًۭا
shahīdana witness
فَقُلْنَا
faqul'nāand We will say
هَاتُوا۟
hātūBring
بُرْهَـٰنَكُمْ
bur'hānakumyour proof
فَعَلِمُوٓا۟
faʿalimūThen they will know
أَنَّ
annathat
ٱلْحَقَّ
l-ḥaqathe truth
لِلَّهِ
lillahi(is) for Allah
وَضَلَّ
waḍallaand (will be) lost
عَنْهُم
ʿanhumfrom them
مَّا
what
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey used (to)
يَفْتَرُونَ
yaftarūnainvent
٧٥
(75)
And We will extract from every nation a witness and say, "Produce your proof," and they will know that the truth belongs to Allāh, and lost from them is that which they used to invent.

۞ إِنَّ
innaIndeed
قَـٰرُونَ
qārūnaQarun
كَانَ
kānawas
مِن
minfrom
قَوْمِ
qawmi(the) people
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā(of) Musa
فَبَغَىٰ
fabaghābut he oppressed
عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ
ʿalayhim[on] them
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ
waātaynāhuAnd We gave him
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْكُنُوزِ
l-kunūzithe treasures
مَآ
which
إِنَّ
innaindeed
مَفَاتِحَهُۥ
mafātiḥahu(the) keys of it
لَتَنُوٓأُ
latanūuwould burden
بِٱلْعُصْبَةِ
bil-ʿuṣ'batia company (of men)
أُو۟لِى
ulīpossessors of great strength
ٱلْقُوَّةِ
l-quwatipossessors of great strength
إِذْ
idhWhen
قَالَ
qālasaid
لَهُۥ
lahuto him
قَوْمُهُۥ
qawmuhuhis people
لَا
(Do) not
تَفْرَحْ ۖ
tafraḥexult
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
لَا
(does) not
يُحِبُّ
yuḥibbulove
ٱلْفَرِحِينَ
l-fariḥīnathe exultant
٧٦
(76)
Indeed, Qārūn was from the people of Moses, but he tyrannized them. And We gave him of treasures whose keys would burden a band of strong men; thereupon his people said to him, "Do not exult. Indeed, Allāh does not like the exultant.

وَٱبْتَغِ
wa-ib'taghiBut seek
فِيمَآ
fīmāthrough what
ءَاتَىٰكَ
ātākaAllah has given you
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah has given you
ٱلدَّارَ
l-dārathe home
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۖ
l-ākhirata(of) the Hereafter
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تَنسَ
tansaforget
نَصِيبَكَ
naṣībakayour share
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ
l-dun'yāthe world
وَأَحْسِن
wa-aḥsinAnd do good
كَمَآ
kamāas
أَحْسَنَ
aḥsanaAllah has been good
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah has been good
إِلَيْكَ ۖ
ilaykato you
وَلَا
walāAnd (do) not
تَبْغِ
tabghiseek
ٱلْفَسَادَ
l-fasādacorruption
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ
l-arḍithe earth
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
لَا
(does) not
يُحِبُّ
yuḥibbulove
ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ
l-muf'sidīnathe corrupters
٧٧
(77)
But seek, through that which Allāh has given you, the home of the Hereafter; and [yet], do not forget your share of the world. And do good as Allāh has done good to you. And desire not corruption in the land. Indeed, Allāh does not like corrupters."

qālaHe said
إِنَّمَآ
innamāOnly
أُوتِيتُهُۥ
ūtītuhuI have been given it
عَلَىٰ

عِلْمٍ
ʿil'min(of) knowledge
عِندِىٓ ۚ
ʿindīI have
أَوَلَمْ
awalamDid not
يَعْلَمْ
yaʿlamhe know
أَنَّ
annathat
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
قَدْ
qadindeed
أَهْلَكَ
ahlakadestroyed
مِن
minbefore him
قَبْلِهِۦ
qablihibefore him
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْقُرُونِ
l-qurūnithe generations
مَنْ
manwho
هُوَ
huwa[they]
أَشَدُّ
ashaddu(were) stronger
مِنْهُ
min'huthan him
قُوَّةًۭ
quwwatan(in) strength
وَأَكْثَرُ
wa-aktharuand greater
جَمْعًۭا ۚ
jamʿan(in) accumulation
وَلَا
walāAnd not
يُسْـَٔلُ
yus'aluwill be questioned
عَن
ʿanabout
ذُنُوبِهِمُ
dhunūbihimutheir sins
ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ
l-muj'rimūnathe criminals
٧٨
(78)
He said, "I was only given it because of knowledge I have." Did he not know that Allāh had destroyed before him of generations those who were greater than him in power and greater in accumulation [of wealth]? But the criminals, about their sins, will not be asked.

فَخَرَجَ
fakharajaSo he went forth
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāto
قَوْمِهِۦ
qawmihihis people
فِى
in
زِينَتِهِۦ ۖ
zīnatihihis adornment
قَالَ
qālaSaid
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
يُرِيدُونَ
yurīdūnadesire
ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ
l-ḥayatathe life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā(of) the world
يَـٰلَيْتَ
yālaytaO! Would that
لَنَا
lanāfor us
مِثْلَ
mith'la(the) like
مَآ
(of) what
أُوتِىَ
ūtiyahas been given
قَـٰرُونُ
qārūnu(to) Qarun
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, he
لَذُو
ladhū(is the) owner
حَظٍّ
ḥaẓẓin(of) fortune
عَظِيمٍۢ
ʿaẓīmingreat
٧٩
(79)
So he came out before his people in his adornment. Those who desired the worldly life said, "Oh, would that we had like what was given to Qārūn. Indeed, he is one of great fortune."

وَقَالَ
waqālaBut said
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
أُوتُوا۟
ūtūwere given
ٱلْعِلْمَ
l-ʿil'mathe knowledge
وَيْلَكُمْ
waylakumWoe to you
ثَوَابُ
thawābu(The) reward
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
خَيْرٌۭ
khayrun(is) better
لِّمَنْ
limanfor (he) who
ءَامَنَ
āmanabelieves
وَعَمِلَ
waʿamilaand does
صَـٰلِحًۭا
ṣāliḥanrighteous (deeds)
وَلَا
walāAnd not
يُلَقَّىٰهَآ
yulaqqāhāit is granted
إِلَّا
illāexcept
ٱلصَّـٰبِرُونَ
l-ṣābirūna(to) the patient ones
٨٠
(80)
But those who had been given knowledge said, "Woe to you! The reward of Allāh is better for he who believes and does righteousness. And none are granted it except the patient."

فَخَسَفْنَا
fakhasafnāThen We caused to swallow up
بِهِۦ
bihihim
وَبِدَارِهِ
wabidārihiand his home
ٱلْأَرْضَ
l-arḍathe earth
فَمَا
famāThen not
كَانَ
kānawas
لَهُۥ
lahufor him
مِن
minany
فِئَةٍۢ
fi-atingroup
يَنصُرُونَهُۥ
yanṣurūnahu(to) help him
مِن
minbesides
دُونِ
dūnibesides
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
وَمَا
wamāand not
كَانَ
kānawas
مِنَ
mina(he) of
ٱلْمُنتَصِرِينَ
l-muntaṣirīnathose who (could) defend themselves
٨١
(81)
And We caused the earth to swallow him and his home. And there was for him no company to aid him other than Allāh, nor was he of those who [could] defend themselves.

وَأَصْبَحَ
wa-aṣbaḥaAnd began
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
تَمَنَّوْا۟
tamannaw(had) wished
مَكَانَهُۥ
makānahuhis position
بِٱلْأَمْسِ
bil-amsithe day before
يَقُولُونَ
yaqūlūna(to) say
وَيْكَأَنَّ
wayka-annaAh! That
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
يَبْسُطُ
yabsuṭuextends
ٱلرِّزْقَ
l-riz'qathe provision
لِمَن
limanfor whom
يَشَآءُ
yashāuHe wills
مِنْ
minof
عِبَادِهِۦ
ʿibādihiHis slaves
وَيَقْدِرُ ۖ
wayaqdiruand restricts it
لَوْلَآ
lawlāIf not
أَن
anthat
مَّنَّ
mannaAllah had favored
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah had favored
عَلَيْنَا
ʿalaynā[to] us
لَخَسَفَ
lakhasafaHe would have caused it to swallow us
بِنَا ۖ
bināHe would have caused it to swallow us
وَيْكَأَنَّهُۥ
wayka-annahuAh! That
لَا
not
يُفْلِحُ
yuf'liḥuwill succeed
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ
l-kāfirūnathe disbelievers
٨٢
(82)
And those who had wished for his position the previous day began to say, "Oh, how Allāh extends provision to whom He wills of His servants and restricts it! If not that Allāh had conferred favor on us, He would have caused it to swallow us. Oh, how the disbelievers do not succeed!"

تِلْكَ
til'kaThat
ٱلدَّارُ
l-dāruthe Home
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ
l-ākhiratu(of) the Hereafter
نَجْعَلُهَا
najʿaluhāWe assign it
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhīnato those who
لَا
(do) not
يُرِيدُونَ
yurīdūnadesire
عُلُوًّۭا
ʿuluwwanexaltedness
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
وَلَا
walāand not
فَسَادًۭا ۚ
fasādancorruption
وَٱلْعَـٰقِبَةُ
wal-ʿāqibatuAnd the good end
لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
lil'muttaqīna(is) for the righteous
٨٣
(83)
That home of the Hereafter We assign to those who do not desire exaltedness upon the earth or corruption. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous.

مَن
manWhoever
جَآءَ
jāacomes
بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ
bil-ḥasanatiwith a good (deed)
فَلَهُۥ
falahuthen for him
خَيْرٌۭ
khayrun(will be) better
مِّنْهَا ۖ
min'hāthan it
وَمَن
wamanand whoever
جَآءَ
jāacomes
بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ
bil-sayi-atiwith an evil (deed)
فَلَا
falāthen not
يُجْزَى
yuj'zāwill be recompensed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
عَمِلُوا۟
ʿamilūdo
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ
l-sayiātithe evil (deeds)
إِلَّا
illāexcept
مَا
what
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey used (to)
يَعْمَلُونَ
yaʿmalūnado
٨٤
(84)
Whoever comes [on the Day of Judgement] with a good deed will have better than it; and whoever comes with an evil deed - then those who did evil deeds will not be recompensed except [as much as] what they used to do.

إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱلَّذِى
alladhīHe Who
فَرَضَ
faraḍaordained
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalaykaupon you
ٱلْقُرْءَانَ
l-qur'ānathe Quran
لَرَآدُّكَ
larādduka(will) surely take you back
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
مَعَادٍۢ ۚ
maʿādina place of return
قُل
qulSay
رَّبِّىٓ
rabbīMy Lord
أَعْلَمُ
aʿlamu(is) most knowing
مَن
man(of him) who
جَآءَ
jāacomes
بِٱلْهُدَىٰ
bil-hudāwith the guidance
وَمَنْ
wamanand who
هُوَ
huwahe
فِى
(is) in
ضَلَـٰلٍۢ
ḍalālinan error
مُّبِينٍۢ
mubīninmanifest
٨٥
(85)
Indeed, [O Muḥammad], He who imposed upon you the Qur’ān will take you back to a place of return. Say, "My Lord is most knowing of who brings guidance and who is in clear error."

وَمَا
wamāAnd not
كُنتَ
kuntayou were
تَرْجُوٓا۟
tarjūexpecting
أَن
anthat
يُلْقَىٰٓ
yul'qāwould be sent down
إِلَيْكَ
ilaykato you
ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ
l-kitābuthe Book
إِلَّا
illāexcept
رَحْمَةًۭ
raḥmatan(as) a mercy
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّكَ ۖ
rabbikayour Lord
فَلَا
falāSo (do) not
تَكُونَنَّ
takūnannabe
ظَهِيرًۭا
ẓahīranan assistant
لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
lil'kāfirīnato the disbelievers
٨٦
(86)
And you were not expecting that the Book would be conveyed to you, but [it is] a mercy from your Lord. So do not be an assistant to the disbelievers.

وَلَا
walāAnd (let) not
يَصُدُّنَّكَ
yaṣuddunnakaavert you
عَنْ
ʿanfrom
ءَايَـٰتِ
āyāti(the) Verses
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
بَعْدَ
baʿdaafter
إِذْ
idh[when]
أُنزِلَتْ
unzilatthey have been revealed
إِلَيْكَ ۖ
ilaykato you
وَٱدْعُ
wa-ud'ʿuAnd invite (people)
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
رَبِّكَ ۖ
rabbikayour Lord
وَلَا
walāAnd (do) not
تَكُونَنَّ
takūnannabe
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
l-mush'rikīnathe polytheists
٨٧
(87)
And never let them avert you from the verses of Allāh after they have been revealed to you. And invite [people] to your Lord. And never be of those who associate others with Allāh.

وَلَا
walāAnd (do) not
تَدْعُ
tadʿuinvoke
مَعَ
maʿawith
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
إِلَـٰهًا
ilāhangod
ءَاخَرَ ۘ
ākharaother
لَآ
(There is) no
إِلَـٰهَ
ilāhagod
إِلَّا
illāexcept
هُوَ ۚ
huwaHim
كُلُّ
kulluEvery
شَىْءٍ
shayinthing
هَالِكٌ
hālikun(will be) destroyed
إِلَّا
illāexcept
وَجْهَهُۥ ۚ
wajhahuHis Face
لَهُ
lahuTo Him
ٱلْحُكْمُ
l-ḥuk'mu(is) the Decision
وَإِلَيْهِ
wa-ilayhiand to Him
تُرْجَعُونَ
tur'jaʿūnayou will be returned
٨٨
(88)
And do not invoke with Allāh another deity. There is no deity except Him. Everything will be destroyed except His Face. His is the judgement, and to Him you will be returned.
