sadSaad
وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ
wal-qur'āniBy the Quran
ذِى
dhīfull (of) reminder
ٱلذِّكْرِ

بَلِ
baliNay
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
فِى
(are) in
عِزَّةٍۢ
ʿizzatinself-glory
وَشِقَاقٍۢ
washiqāqinand opposition
٢
(2)
But those who disbelieve are in pride and dissension.

كَمْ
kamHow many
أَهْلَكْنَا
ahlaknāWe destroyed
مِن
minbefore them
قَبْلِهِم
qablihimbefore them
مِّن
minof
قَرْنٍۢ
qarnina generation
فَنَادَوا۟
fanādawthen they called out
وَّلَاتَ
walātawhen there (was) no longer
حِينَ
ḥīnatime
مَنَاصٍۢ
manāṣin(for) escape
٣
(3)
How many a generation have We destroyed before them, and they [then] called out; but it was not a time for escape.

وَعَجِبُوٓا۟
waʿajibūAnd they wonder
أَن
anthat
جَآءَهُم
jāahumhas come to them
مُّنذِرٌۭ
mundhiruna warner
مِّنْهُمْ ۖ
min'humfrom themselves
وَقَالَ
waqālaAnd said
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ
l-kāfirūnathe disbelievers
هَـٰذَا
hādhāThis
سَـٰحِرٌۭ
sāḥirun(is) a magician
كَذَّابٌ
kadhābuna liar
٤
(4)
And they wonder that there has come to them a warner [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] from among themselves. And the disbelievers say, "This is a magician and a liar.

أَجَعَلَ
ajaʿalaHas he made
ٱلْـَٔالِهَةَ
l-ālihatathe gods
إِلَـٰهًۭا
ilāhan(into) one god
وَٰحِدًا ۖ
wāḥidan(into) one god
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
هَـٰذَا
hādhāthis
لَشَىْءٌ
lashayon(is) certainly a thing
عُجَابٌۭ
ʿujābuncurious
٥
(5)
Has he made the gods [only] one God? Indeed, this is a curious thing."

وَٱنطَلَقَ
wa-inṭalaqaAnd went forth
ٱلْمَلَأُ
l-mala-uthe chiefs
مِنْهُمْ
min'humamong them
أَنِ
anithat
ٱمْشُوا۟
im'shūContinue
وَٱصْبِرُوا۟
wa-iṣ'birūand be patient
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalāover
ءَالِهَتِكُمْ ۖ
ālihatikumyour gods
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
هَـٰذَا
hādhāthis
لَشَىْءٌۭ
lashayon(is) certainly a thing
يُرَادُ
yurāduintended
٦
(6)
And the eminent among them went forth, [saying], "Continue, and be patient over [the defense of] your gods. Indeed, this is a thing intended.

مَا
Not
سَمِعْنَا
samiʿ'nāwe heard
بِهَـٰذَا
bihādhāof this
فِى
in
ٱلْمِلَّةِ
l-milatithe religion
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
l-ākhiratithe last
إِنْ
inNot
هَـٰذَآ
hādhā(is) this
إِلَّا
illābut
ٱخْتِلَـٰقٌ
ikh'tilāquna fabrication
٧
(7)
We have not heard of this in the latest religion. This is not but a fabrication.

أَءُنزِلَ
a-unzilaHas been revealed
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhito him
ٱلذِّكْرُ
l-dhik'ruthe Message
مِنۢ
minfrom
بَيْنِنَا ۚ
baynināamong us
بَلْ
balNay
هُمْ
humThey
فِى
(are) in
شَكٍّۢ
shakkindoubt
مِّن
minabout
ذِكْرِى ۖ
dhik'rīMy Message
بَل
balNay
لَّمَّا
lammānot yet
يَذُوقُوا۟
yadhūqūthey have tasted
عَذَابِ
ʿadhābiMy punishment
٨
(8)
Has the message been revealed to him out of [all of] us?" Rather, they are in doubt about My message. Rather, they have not yet tasted My punishment.

أَمْ
amOr
عِندَهُمْ
ʿindahumhave they
خَزَآئِنُ
khazāinu(the) treasures
رَحْمَةِ
raḥmati(of the) Mercy
رَبِّكَ
rabbika(of) your Lord
ٱلْعَزِيزِ
l-ʿazīzithe All-Mighty
ٱلْوَهَّابِ
l-wahābithe Bestower
٩
(9)
Or do they have the depositories of the mercy of your Lord, the Exalted in Might, the Bestower?

أَمْ
amOr
لَهُم
lahumfor them
مُّلْكُ
mul'ku(is the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍiand the earth
وَمَا
wamāand whatever
بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ
baynahumā(is) between them
فَلْيَرْتَقُوا۟
falyartaqūThen let them ascend
فِى
by
ٱلْأَسْبَـٰبِ
l-asbābithe means
١٠
(10)
Or is theirs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and what is between them? Then let them ascend through [any] ways of access.

جُندٌۭ
jundunSoldiers
مَّا
there
هُنَالِكَ
hunālikathere
مَهْزُومٌۭ
mahzūmun(they will be) defeated
مِّنَ
minaamong
ٱلْأَحْزَابِ
l-aḥzābithe companies
١١
(11)
[They are but] soldiers [who will be] defeated there among the companies [of disbelievers].

كَذَّبَتْ
kadhabatDenied
قَبْلَهُمْ
qablahumbefore them
قَوْمُ
qawmu(the) people
نُوحٍۢ
nūḥin(of) Nuh
وَعَادٌۭ
waʿādunand Aad
وَفِرْعَوْنُ
wafir'ʿawnuand Firaun
ذُو
dhū(the) owner
ٱلْأَوْتَادِ
l-awtādi(of) the stakes
١٢
(12)
The people of Noah denied before them, and [the tribe of] ʿAad and Pharaoh, the owner of stakes,

وَثَمُودُ
wathamūduAnd Thamud
وَقَوْمُ
waqawmuand (the) people
لُوطٍۢ
lūṭin(of) Lut
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ
wa-aṣḥābuand (the) companions
لْـَٔيْكَةِ ۚ
al'aykati(of) the wood
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāikaThose
ٱلْأَحْزَابُ
l-aḥzābu(were) the companies
١٣
(13)
And [the tribe of] Thamūd and the people of Lot and the companions of the thicket [i.e., people of Madyan]. Those are the companies.

كُلٌّ
kullunall (of them)
إِلَّا
illābut
كَذَّبَ
kadhabadenied
ٱلرُّسُلَ
l-rusulathe Messengers
فَحَقَّ
faḥaqqaso (was) just
عِقَابِ
ʿiqābiMy penalty
١٤
(14)
Each of them denied the messengers, so My penalty was justified.

وَمَا
wamāAnd not
يَنظُرُ
yanẓuruawait
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ
hāulāithese
إِلَّا
illābut
صَيْحَةًۭ
ṣayḥatana shout
وَٰحِدَةًۭ
wāḥidatanone
مَّا
not
لَهَا
lahāfor it
مِن
minany
فَوَاقٍۢ
fawāqindelay
١٥
(15)
And these [disbelievers] await not but one blast [of the Horn]; for it there will be no delay.

وَقَالُوا۟
waqālūAnd they say
رَبَّنَا
rabbanāOur Lord
عَجِّل
ʿajjilHasten
لَّنَا
lanāfor us
قِطَّنَا
qiṭṭanāour share
قَبْلَ
qablabefore
يَوْمِ
yawmi(the) Day
ٱلْحِسَابِ
l-ḥisābi(of) the Account
١٦
(16)
And they say, "Our Lord, hasten for us our share [of the punishment] before the Day of Account."

ٱصْبِرْ
iṣ'birBe patient
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāover
مَا
what
يَقُولُونَ
yaqūlūnathey say
وَٱذْكُرْ
wa-udh'kurand remember
عَبْدَنَا
ʿabdanāOur slave
دَاوُۥدَ
dāwūdaDawood
ذَا
dhāthe possessor of strength
ٱلْأَيْدِ ۖ
l-aydithe possessor of strength
إِنَّهُۥٓ
innahuIndeed, he (was)
أَوَّابٌ
awwābunrepeatedly turning
١٧
(17)
Be patient over what they say and remember Our servant, David, the possessor of strength; indeed, he was one who repeatedly turned back [to Allāh].

إِنَّا
innāIndeed, We
سَخَّرْنَا
sakharnāsubjected
ٱلْجِبَالَ
l-jibālathe mountains
مَعَهُۥ
maʿahuwith him
يُسَبِّحْنَ
yusabbiḥ'naglorifying
بِٱلْعَشِىِّ
bil-ʿashiyiin the evening
وَٱلْإِشْرَاقِ
wal-ish'rāqiand [the] sunrise
١٨
(18)
Indeed, We subjected the mountains [to praise] with him, exalting [Allāh] in the [late] afternoon and [after] sunrise.

وَٱلطَّيْرَ
wal-ṭayraAnd the birds
مَحْشُورَةًۭ ۖ
maḥshūratanassembled
كُلٌّۭ
kullunall
لَّهُۥٓ
lahuwith him
أَوَّابٌۭ
awwābunrepeatedly turning
١٩
(19)
And the birds were assembled, all with him repeating [praises].

وَشَدَدْنَا
washadadnāAnd We strengthened
مُلْكَهُۥ
mul'kahuhis kingdom
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ
waātaynāhuand We gave him
ٱلْحِكْمَةَ
l-ḥik'mata[the] wisdom
وَفَصْلَ
wafaṣlaand decisive
ٱلْخِطَابِ
l-khiṭābispeech
٢٠
(20)
And We strengthened his kingdom and gave him wisdom and discernment in speech.

۞ وَهَلْ
wahalAnd has (there)
أَتَىٰكَ
atākacome to you
نَبَؤُا۟
naba-u(the) news
ٱلْخَصْمِ
l-khaṣmi(of) the litigants
إِذْ
idhwhen
تَسَوَّرُوا۟
tasawwarūthey climbed over the wall
ٱلْمِحْرَابَ
l-miḥ'rāba(of) the chamber
٢١
(21)
And has there come to you the news of the adversaries, when they climbed over the wall of [his] prayer chamber -

إِذْ
idhWhen
دَخَلُوا۟
dakhalūthey entered
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāupon
دَاوُۥدَ
dāwūdaDawood
فَفَزِعَ
fafaziʿaand he was afraid
مِنْهُمْ ۖ
min'humof them
قَالُوا۟
qālūthey said
لَا
(Do) not
تَخَفْ ۖ
takhaffear
خَصْمَانِ
khaṣmāni(We are) two litigants
بَغَىٰ
baghāhas wronged
بَعْضُنَا
baʿḍunāone of us
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāto
بَعْضٍۢ
baʿḍinanother
فَٱحْكُم
fa-uḥ'kumso judge
بَيْنَنَا
baynanābetween us
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqiin truth
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تُشْطِطْ
tush'ṭiṭbe unjust
وَٱهْدِنَآ
wa-ih'dināand guide us
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
سَوَآءِ
sawāian even
ٱلصِّرَٰطِ
l-ṣirāṭi[the] path
٢٢
(22)
When they entered upon David and he was alarmed by them? They said, "Fear not. [We are] two adversaries, one of whom has wronged the other, so judge between us with truth and do not exceed [it] and guide us to the sound path.

إِنَّ

هَـٰذَآ
hādhāthis
أَخِى
akhī(is) my brother
لَهُۥ
lahuhe has
تِسْعٌۭ
tis'ʿunninety-nine
وَتِسْعُونَ
watis'ʿūnaninety-nine
نَعْجَةًۭ
naʿjatanewe(s)
وَلِىَ
waliyawhile I have
نَعْجَةٌۭ
naʿjatunewe
وَٰحِدَةٌۭ
wāḥidatunone
فَقَالَ
faqālaso he said
أَكْفِلْنِيهَا
akfil'nīhāEntrust her to me
وَعَزَّنِى
waʿazzanīand he overpowered me
فِى
in
ٱلْخِطَابِ
l-khiṭābi[the] speech
٢٣
(23)
Indeed this, my brother, has ninety-nine ewes, and I have one ewe; so he said, 'Entrust her to me,' and he overpowered me in speech."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
لَقَدْ
laqadCertainly
ظَلَمَكَ
ẓalamakahe has wronged you
بِسُؤَالِ
bisuāliby demanding
نَعْجَتِكَ
naʿjatikayour ewe
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
نِعَاجِهِۦ ۖ
niʿājihihis ewes
وَإِنَّ
wa-innaAnd indeed
كَثِيرًۭا
kathīranmany
مِّنَ
minaof
ٱلْخُلَطَآءِ
l-khulaṭāithe partners
لَيَبْغِى
layabghīcertainly oppress
بَعْضُهُمْ
baʿḍuhumsome of them
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā[on]
بَعْضٍ
baʿḍinanother
إِلَّا
illāexcept
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
وَقَلِيلٌۭ
waqalīlunand few
مَّا
(are) they
هُمْ ۗ
hum(are) they
وَظَنَّ
waẓannaAnd became certain
دَاوُۥدُ
dāwūduDawood
أَنَّمَا
annamāthat
فَتَنَّـٰهُ
fatannāhuWe (had) tried him
فَٱسْتَغْفَرَ
fa-is'taghfaraand he asked forgiveness
رَبَّهُۥ
rabbahu(of) his Lord
وَخَرَّ
wakharraand fell down
رَاكِعًۭا
rākiʿanbowing
وَأَنَابَ ۩
wa-anābaand turned in repentance
٢٤
(24)
[David] said, "He has certainly wronged you in demanding your ewe [in addition] to his ewes. And indeed, many associates oppress one another, except for those who believe and do righteous deeds - and few are they." And David became certain that We had tried him, and he asked forgiveness of his Lord and fell down bowing [in prostration] and turned in repentance [to Allāh].

25
فَغَفَرْنَا
faghafarnāSo We forgave
لَهُۥ
lahufor him
ذَٰلِكَ ۖ
dhālikathat
وَإِنَّ
wa-innaAnd indeed
لَهُۥ
lahufor him
عِندَنَا
ʿindanāwith Us
لَزُلْفَىٰ
lazul'fāsurely is a near access
وَحُسْنَ
waḥus'naand a good
مَـَٔابٍۢ
maābinplace of return
٢٥
(25)
So We forgave him that; and indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return.

يَـٰدَاوُۥدُ
yādāwūduO Dawood
إِنَّا
innāIndeed, We
جَعَلْنَـٰكَ
jaʿalnāka[We] have made you
خَلِيفَةًۭ
khalīfatana vicegerent
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
فَٱحْكُم
fa-uḥ'kumso judge
بَيْنَ
baynabetween
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsi[the] men
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqiin truth
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تَتَّبِعِ
tattabiʿifollow
ٱلْهَوَىٰ
l-hawāthe desire
فَيُضِلَّكَ
fayuḍillakafor it will lead you astray
عَن
ʿanfrom
سَبِيلِ
sabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِ ۚ
l-lahi(of) Allah
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
يَضِلُّونَ
yaḍillūnago astray
عَن
ʿanfrom
سَبِيلِ
sabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
لَهُمْ
lahumfor them
عَذَابٌۭ
ʿadhābun(is) a punishment
شَدِيدٌۢ
shadīdunsevere
بِمَا
bimābecause
نَسُوا۟
nasūthey forgot
يَوْمَ
yawma(the) Day
ٱلْحِسَابِ
l-ḥisābi(of) Account
٢٦
(26)
[We said], "O David, indeed We have made you a successor upon the earth, so judge between the people in truth and do not follow [your own] desire, as it will lead you astray from the way of Allāh." Indeed, those who go astray from the way of Allāh will have a severe punishment for having forgotten the Day of Account.

وَمَا
wamāAnd not
خَلَقْنَا
khalaqnāWe created
ٱلسَّمَآءَ
l-samāathe heaven
وَٱلْأَرْضَ
wal-arḍaand the earth
وَمَا
wamāand whatever
بَيْنَهُمَا
baynahumā(is) between them
بَـٰطِلًۭا ۚ
bāṭilanwithout purpose
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
ظَنُّ
ẓannu(is the) assumption
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟ ۚ
kafarūdisbelieve
فَوَيْلٌۭ
fawaylunSo woe
لِّلَّذِينَ
lilladhīnato those
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūwho disbelieve
مِنَ
minafrom
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nārithe Fire
٢٧
(27)
And We did not create the heaven and the earth and that between them aimlessly. That is the assumption of those who disbelieve, so woe to those who disbelieve from the Fire.

أَمْ
amOr
نَجْعَلُ
najʿalushould We treat
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
كَٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ
kal-muf'sidīnalike those who spread corruption
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
أَمْ
amOr
نَجْعَلُ
najʿalushould We treat
ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ
l-mutaqīnathe pious
كَٱلْفُجَّارِ
kal-fujārilike the wicked
٢٨
(28)
Or should We treat those who believe and do righteous deeds like corrupters in the land? Or should We treat those who fear Allāh like the wicked?

كِتَـٰبٌ
kitābun(This is) a Book
أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ
anzalnāhuWe have revealed it
إِلَيْكَ
ilaykato you
مُبَـٰرَكٌۭ
mubārakunblessed
لِّيَدَّبَّرُوٓا۟
liyaddabbarūthat they may ponder
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ
āyātihi(over) its Verses
وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ
waliyatadhakkaraand may be reminded
أُو۟لُوا۟
ulūthose of understanding
ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ
l-albābithose of understanding
٢٩
(29)
[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.

وَوَهَبْنَا
wawahabnāAnd We gave
لِدَاوُۥدَ
lidāwūdato Dawood
سُلَيْمَـٰنَ ۚ
sulaymānaSulaiman
نِعْمَ
niʿ'maan excellent
ٱلْعَبْدُ ۖ
l-ʿabduslave
إِنَّهُۥٓ
innahuIndeed, he
أَوَّابٌ
awwābun(was) one who repeatedly turned
٣٠
(30)
And to David We gave Solomon. An excellent servant, indeed he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allāh].

إِذْ
idhWhen
عُرِضَ
ʿuriḍawere displayed
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhito him
بِٱلْعَشِىِّ
bil-ʿashiyiin the afternoon
ٱلصَّـٰفِنَـٰتُ
l-ṣāfinātuexcellent bred steeds
ٱلْجِيَادُ
l-jiyāduexcellent bred steeds
٣١
(31)
[Mention] when there were exhibited before him in the afternoon the poised [standing] racehorses.

فَقَالَ
faqālaAnd he said
إِنِّىٓ
innīIndeed, I
أَحْبَبْتُ
aḥbabtu[I] preferred
حُبَّ
ḥubba(the) love
ٱلْخَيْرِ
l-khayri(of) the good
عَن
ʿanover
ذِكْرِ
dhik'ri(the) remembrance
رَبِّى
rabbī(of) my Lord
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattāUntil
تَوَارَتْ
tawāratthey were hidden
بِٱلْحِجَابِ
bil-ḥijābiin the veil
٣٢
(32)
And he said, "Indeed, I gave preference to the love of good [things] over the remembrance of my Lord until it [i.e., the sun] disappeared into the curtain [of darkness]."

رُدُّوهَا
ruddūhāReturn them
عَلَىَّ ۖ
ʿalayyato me
فَطَفِقَ
faṭafiqaThen he began
مَسْحًۢا
masḥan(to) pass (his hand)
بِٱلسُّوقِ
bil-sūqiover the legs
وَٱلْأَعْنَاقِ
wal-aʿnāqiand the necks
٣٣
(33)
[He said], "Return them to me," and set about striking [their] legs and necks.

وَلَقَدْ
walaqadAnd certainly
فَتَنَّا
fatannāWe tried
سُلَيْمَـٰنَ
sulaymānaSulaiman
وَأَلْقَيْنَا
wa-alqaynāand We placed
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāon
كُرْسِيِّهِۦ
kur'siyyihihis throne
جَسَدًۭا
jasadana body
ثُمَّ
thummathen
أَنَابَ
anābahe turned
٣٤
(34)
And We certainly tried Solomon and placed on his throne a body; then he returned.

قَالَ
qālaHe said
رَبِّ
rabbiO my Lord
ٱغْفِرْ
igh'firForgive
لِى
me
وَهَبْ
wahaband grant
لِى
me
مُلْكًۭا
mul'kana kingdom
لَّا
not
يَنۢبَغِى
yanbaghī(will) belong
لِأَحَدٍۢ
li-aḥadinto anyone
مِّنۢ
minafter me
بَعْدِىٓ ۖ
baʿdīafter me
إِنَّكَ
innakaIndeed, You
أَنتَ
anta[You]
ٱلْوَهَّابُ
l-wahābu(are) the Bestower
٣٥
(35)
He said, "My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me. Indeed, You are the Bestower."

فَسَخَّرْنَا
fasakharnāThen We subjected
لَهُ
lahuto him
ٱلرِّيحَ
l-rīḥathe wind
تَجْرِى
tajrīto flow
بِأَمْرِهِۦ
bi-amrihiby his command
رُخَآءً
rukhāangently
حَيْثُ
ḥaythuwherever
أَصَابَ
aṣābahe directed
٣٦

So We subjected to him the wind blowing by his command, gently, wherever he directed,

And [also] the devils [of jinn] - every builder and diver

And others bound together in irons.

hādhāThis
عَطَآؤُنَا
ʿaṭāunā(is) Our gift
فَٱمْنُنْ
fa-um'nunso grant
أَوْ
awor
أَمْسِكْ

بِغَيْرِ
bighayriwithout
حِسَابٍۢ
ḥisābinaccount
٣٩
(39)
[We said], "This is Our gift, so grant or withhold without account."

وَإِنَّ
wa-innaAnd indeed
لَهُۥ
lahufor him
عِندَنَا
ʿindanāwith Us
لَزُلْفَىٰ
lazul'fāsurely is a near access
وَحُسْنَ
waḥus'naand a good
مَـَٔابٍۢ
maābinplace of return
٤٠
(40)
And indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return.

وَٱذْكُرْ
wa-udh'kurAnd remember
عَبْدَنَآ
ʿabdanāOur slave
أَيُّوبَ
ayyūbaAyyub
إِذْ
idhwhen
نَادَىٰ
nādāhe called
رَبَّهُۥٓ
rabbahuhis Lord
أَنِّى
annīThat [I]
مَسَّنِىَ
massaniya(has) touched me
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ
l-shayṭānuShaitaan
بِنُصْبٍۢ
binuṣ'binwith distress
وَعَذَابٍ
waʿadhābinand suffering
٤١
(41)
And remember Our servant Job, when he called to his Lord, "Indeed, Satan has touched me with hardship and torment."

ٱرْكُضْ
ur'kuḍStrike
بِرِجْلِكَ ۖ
birij'likawith your foot
هَـٰذَا
hādhāThis
مُغْتَسَلٌۢ
mugh'tasalun(is a spring of) water to bathe
بَارِدٌۭ
bāriduncool
وَشَرَابٌۭ
washarābunand a drink
٤٢
(42)
[So he was told], "Strike [the ground] with your foot; this is a [spring for a] cool bath and drink."

وَوَهَبْنَا
wawahabnāAnd We granted
لَهُۥٓ
lahu[to] him
أَهْلَهُۥ
ahlahuhis family
وَمِثْلَهُم
wamith'lahumand a like of them
مَّعَهُمْ
maʿahumwith them
رَحْمَةًۭ
raḥmatana Mercy
مِّنَّا
minnāfrom Us
وَذِكْرَىٰ
wadhik'rāand a Reminder
لِأُو۟لِى
li-ulīfor those of understanding
ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ
l-albābifor those of understanding
٤٣
(43)
And We granted him his family and a like [number] with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for those of understanding.

وَخُذْ
wakhudhAnd take
بِيَدِكَ
biyadikain your hand
ضِغْثًۭا
ḍigh'thana bunch
فَٱضْرِب
fa-iḍ'riband strike
بِّهِۦ
bihiwith it
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تَحْنَثْ ۗ
taḥnathbreak (your) oath
إِنَّا
innāIndeed, We
وَجَدْنَـٰهُ
wajadnāhu[We] found him
صَابِرًۭا ۚ
ṣābiranpatient
نِّعْمَ
niʿ'maan excellent
ٱلْعَبْدُ ۖ
l-ʿabduslave
إِنَّهُۥٓ
innahuIndeed, he
أَوَّابٌۭ
awwābunrepeatedly turned
٤٤
(44)
[We said], "And take in your hand a bunch [of grass] and strike with it and do not break your oath." Indeed, We found him patient, an excellent servant. Indeed, he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allāh].

وَٱذْكُرْ
wa-udh'kurAnd remember
عِبَـٰدَنَآ
ʿibādanāOur slaves
إِبْرَٰهِيمَ
ib'rāhīmaIbrahim
وَإِسْحَـٰقَ
wa-is'ḥāqaand Isaac
وَيَعْقُوبَ
wayaʿqūbaand Ayyub
أُو۟لِى
ulīpossessors
ٱلْأَيْدِى
l-aydī(of) strength
وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ
wal-abṣāriand vision
٤٥
(45)
And remember Our servants, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - those of strength and [religious] vision.

إِنَّآ
innāIndeed, We
أَخْلَصْنَـٰهُم
akhlaṣnāhum[We] chose them
بِخَالِصَةٍۢ
bikhāliṣatinfor an exclusive (quality)
ذِكْرَى
dhik'rāremembrance
ٱلدَّارِ
l-dāri(of) the Home
٤٦
(46)
Indeed, We chose them for an exclusive quality: remembrance of the home [of the Hereafter].

وَإِنَّهُمْ
wa-innahumAnd indeed, they
عِندَنَا
ʿindanāto Us
لَمِنَ
lamina(are) from
ٱلْمُصْطَفَيْنَ
l-muṣ'ṭafaynathe chosen ones
ٱلْأَخْيَارِ
l-akhyārithe best
٤٧
(47)
And indeed they are, to Us, among the chosen and outstanding.

وَٱذْكُرْ
wa-udh'kurAnd remember
إِسْمَـٰعِيلَ
is'māʿīlaIshmael
وَٱلْيَسَعَ
wal-yasaʿaand Elisha
وَذَا
wadhāand Dhul-kifl
ٱلْكِفْلِ ۖ
l-kif'liand Dhul-kifl
وَكُلٌّۭ
wakullunand all
مِّنَ
mina(are) from
ٱلْأَخْيَارِ
l-akhyārithe best
٤٨
(48)
And remember Ishmael, Elisha and Dhul-Kifl, and all are among the outstanding.

hādhāThis
ذِكْرٌۭ ۚ
dhik'run(is) a Reminder
وَإِنَّ
wa-innaAnd indeed
لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
lil'muttaqīnafor the righteous
لَحُسْنَ
laḥus'nasurely, is a good
مَـَٔابٍۢ
maābinplace of return
٤٩
(49)
This is a reminder. And indeed, for the righteous is a good place of return -

jannātiGardens
عَدْنٍۢ
ʿadnin(of) Eternity
مُّفَتَّحَةًۭ
mufattaḥatan(will be) opened
لَّهُمُ
lahumufor them
ٱلْأَبْوَٰبُ
l-abwābuthe gates
٥٠
(50)
Gardens of perpetual residence, whose doors will be opened to them.

مُتَّكِـِٔينَ
muttakiīnaReclining
فِيهَا
fīhātherein
يَدْعُونَ
yadʿūnathey will call
فِيهَا
fīhātherein
بِفَـٰكِهَةٍۢ
bifākihatinfor fruit
كَثِيرَةٍۢ
kathīratinmany
وَشَرَابٍۢ
washarābinand drink
٥١
(51)
Reclining within them, they will call therein for abundant fruit and drink.

۞ وَعِندَهُمْ
waʿindahumAnd with them
قَـٰصِرَٰتُ
qāṣirātu(will be) companions of modest gaze
ٱلطَّرْفِ
l-ṭarfi(will be) companions of modest gaze
أَتْرَابٌ
atrābunwell-matched
٥٢
(52)
And with them will be women limiting [their] glances and of equal age.

هَـٰذَا
hādhāThis
مَا
(is) what
تُوعَدُونَ
tūʿadūnayou are promised
لِيَوْمِ
liyawmifor (the) Day
ٱلْحِسَابِ
l-ḥisābi(of) Account

(53)
This is what you, [the righteous], are promised for the Day of Account.

innaIndeed
هَـٰذَا
hādhāthis
لَرِزْقُنَا
lariz'qunā(is) surely Our provision
مَا
not
لَهُۥ
lahufor it
مِن
minany
نَّفَادٍ
nafādindepletion

(54)
Indeed, this is Our provision; for it there is no depletion.

هَـٰذَا ۚ
hādhāThis (is so)
وَإِنَّ
wa-innaAnd indeed
لِلطَّـٰغِينَ
lilṭṭāghīnafor the transgressors
لَشَرَّ
lasharrasurely (is) an evil
مَـَٔابٍۢ
maābinplace of return
٥٥
(55)
This [is so]. But indeed, for the transgressors is an evil place of return -

جَهَنَّمَ
jahannamaHell
يَصْلَوْنَهَا
yaṣlawnahāthey will burn therein
فَبِئْسَ
fabi'saand wretched (is)
ٱلْمِهَادُ
l-mihāduthe resting place

(56)
Hell, which they will [enter to] burn, and wretched is the resting place.

هَـٰذَا
hādhāThis (is so)
فَلْيَذُوقُوهُ
falyadhūqūhuThen let them taste it
حَمِيمٌۭ
ḥamīmunboiling fluid
وَغَسَّاقٌۭ
waghassāqunand purulence

(57)
This - so let them taste it - is scalding water and [foul] purulence.

وَءَاخَرُ
waākharuAnd other
مِن
minof
شَكْلِهِۦٓ
shaklihiits type
أَزْوَٰجٌ
azwājun(of various) kinds
٥٨
(58)
And other [punishments] of its type [in various] kinds.

هَـٰذَا
hādhāThis
فَوْجٌۭ
fawjun(is) a company
مُّقْتَحِمٌۭ
muq'taḥimunbursting
مَّعَكُمْ ۖ
maʿakum(in) with you
لَا
No
مَرْحَبًۢا
marḥabanwelcome
بِهِمْ ۚ
bihimfor them
إِنَّهُمْ
innahumIndeed, they
صَالُوا۟
ṣālū(will) burn
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri(in) the Fire
٥٩
(59)
[Its inhabitants will say], "This is a company bursting in with you. No welcome for them. Indeed, they will burn in the Fire."

أَنتُمْ

مَرْحَبًۢا
marḥabanwelcome
بِكُمْ ۖ

قَدَّمْتُمُوهُ
qaddamtumūhubrought this
لَنَا ۖ
lanāupon us
فَبِئْسَ
fabi'saSo wretched (is)
ٱلْقَرَارُ
l-qarāruthe settlement
٦٠
(60)
They will say, "Nor you! No welcome for you. You, [our leaders], brought this upon us, and wretched is the settlement."

قَالُوا۟
qālūThey will say
رَبَّنَا
rabbanāOur Lord
مَن
manwhoever
قَدَّمَ
qaddamabrought
لَنَا
lanāupon us
هَـٰذَا
hādhāthis
فَزِدْهُ
fazid'huincrease for him
عَذَابًۭا
ʿadhābana punishment
ضِعْفًۭا
ḍiʿ'fandouble
فِى
in
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nārithe Fire
٦١
(61)
They will say, "Our Lord, whoever brought this upon us - increase for him double punishment in the Fire."

وَقَالُوا۟
waqālūAnd they (will) say
مَا
What (is)
لَنَا
lanāfor us
لَا
not
نَرَىٰ
narāwe see
رِجَالًۭا
rijālanmen
كُنَّا
kunnāwe used to
نَعُدُّهُم
naʿudduhumcount them
مِّنَ
minaamong
ٱلْأَشْرَارِ
l-ashrārithe bad ones
٦٢
(62)
And they will say, "Why do we not see men whom we used to count among the worst?

أَتَّخَذْنَـٰهُمْ
attakhadhnāhumDid we take them
سِخْرِيًّا
sikh'riyyan(in) ridicule
أَمْ
amor
زَاغَتْ
zāghathas turned away
عَنْهُمُ
ʿanhumufrom them
ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ
l-abṣāruthe vision
٦٣
(63)
Is it [because] we took them in ridicule, or has [our] vision turned away from them?"

إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikathat
لَحَقٌّۭ
laḥaqqun(is) surely (the) truth
تَخَاصُمُ
takhāṣumu(the) quarreling
أَهْلِ
ahli(of the) people
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri(of) the Fire
٦٤
(64)
Indeed, that is truth [i.e., reality] - the quarreling of the people of the Fire.

إِنَّمَآ
innamāOnly
أَنَا۠
anāI am
مُنذِرٌۭ ۖ
mundhiruna warner
وَمَا
wamāand not
مِنْ
min(is there) any
إِلَـٰهٍ
ilāhingod
إِلَّا
illāexcept
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
ٱلْوَٰحِدُ
l-wāḥiduthe One
ٱلْقَهَّارُ
l-qahāruthe Irresistible
٦٥
(65)
Say, [O Muḥammad], "I am only a warner, and there is not any deity except Allāh, the One, the Prevailing,

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍiand the earth
وَمَا
wamāand whatever
بَيْنَهُمَا
baynahumā(is) between them
ٱلْعَزِيزُ
l-ʿazīzuthe All-Mighty
ٱلْغَفَّـٰرُ
l-ghafāruthe Oft-Forgiving
٦٦
(66)
Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Exalted in Might, the Perpetual Forgiver."

Say, "It is great news

مُعْرِضُونَ
muʿ'riḍūnaturn away

From which you turn away.

liyafor me
مِنْ
minany
عِلْمٍۭ
ʿil'minknowledge
بِٱلْمَلَإِ
bil-mala-i(of) the chiefs
ٱلْأَعْلَىٰٓ
l-aʿlāthe exalted
إِذْ
idhwhen
يَخْتَصِمُونَ
yakhtaṣimūnathey were disputing
٦٩
(69)
I had no knowledge of the exalted assembly [of angels] when they were disputing [the creation of Adam].

yūḥāhas been revealed
إِلَىَّ
ilayyato me
إِلَّآ
illāexcept
أَنَّمَآ
annamāthat only
أَنَا۠

مُّبِينٌ
mubīnunclear
٧٠
(70)
It has not been revealed to me except that I am a clear warner."

لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ
lil'malāikatito the Angels
إِنِّى
innīIndeed, I Am
خَـٰلِقٌۢ
khāliqungoing to create
بَشَرًۭا
basharana human being
مِّن
minfrom
طِينٍۢ
ṭīninclay
٧١
(71)
[So mention] when your Lord said to the angels, "Indeed, I am going to create a human being from clay.

فَإِذَا
fa-idhāSo when
سَوَّيْتُهُۥ
sawwaytuhuI have proportioned him
وَنَفَخْتُ
wanafakhtuand breathed
فِيهِ
fīhiinto him
مِن
minof
رُّوحِى
rūḥīMy spirit
فَقَعُوا۟
faqaʿūthen fall down
لَهُۥ
lahuto him
سَـٰجِدِينَ
sājidīnaprostrating
٧٢
(72)
So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration."

فَسَجَدَ
fasajadaSo prostrated
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ
l-malāikatuthe Angels
كُلُّهُمْ
kulluhumall of them
أَجْمَعُونَ
ajmaʿūnatogether

(73)
So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely,

إِبْلِيسَ
ib'līsaIblis
ٱسْتَكْبَرَ
is'takbarahe was arrogant
وَكَانَ
wakānaand became
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
l-kāfirīnathe disbelievers
٧٤
(74)
Except Iblees; he was arrogant and became among the disbelievers.

qālaHe said
يَـٰٓإِبْلِيسُ
yāib'līsuO Iblis
مَا
What
مَنَعَكَ
manaʿakaprevented you
أَن
anthat
تَسْجُدَ
tasjudayou (should) prostrate
لِمَا
limāto (one) whom
خَلَقْتُ
khalaqtuI created
بِيَدَىَّ ۖ
biyadayyawith My Hands
أَسْتَكْبَرْتَ
astakbartaAre you arrogant
أَمْ
amor
كُنتَ
kuntaare you
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْعَالِينَ
l-ʿālīnathe exalted ones
٧٥
(75)
[Allāh] said, "O Iblees, what prevented you from prostrating to that which I created with My hands? Were you arrogant [then], or were you [already] among the haughty?"

qālaHe said
أَنَا۠
anāI am
خَيْرٌۭ
khayrunbetter
مِّنْهُ ۖ
min'huthan him
خَلَقْتَنِى
khalaqtanīYou created me
مِن
minfrom
نَّارٍۢ
nārinfire
وَخَلَقْتَهُۥ
wakhalaqtahuand You created him
مِن
minfrom
طِينٍۢ
ṭīninclay
٧٦
(76)
He said, "I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
فَٱخْرُجْ
fa-ukh'rujThen get out
مِنْهَا
min'hāof it
فَإِنَّكَ
fa-innakafor indeed, you
رَجِيمٌۭ
rajīmun(are) accursed
٧٧
(77)
[Allāh] said, "Then get out of it [i.e., Paradise], for indeed, you are expelled.

وَإِنَّ
wa-innaAnd indeed
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalaykaupon you
لَعْنَتِىٓ
laʿnatī(is) My curse
إِلَىٰ
ilāuntil
يَوْمِ
yawmi(the) Day
ٱلدِّينِ
l-dīni(of) Judgment
٧٨
(78)
And indeed, upon you is My curse until the Day of Recompense."

qālaHe said
رَبِّ
rabbiMy Lord
فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ
fa-anẓir'nīThen give me respite
إِلَىٰ
ilāuntil
يَوْمِ
yawmi(the) Day
يُبْعَثُونَ
yub'ʿathūnathey are resurrected
٧٩
(79)
He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
فَإِنَّكَ
fa-innakaThen indeed, you
مِنَ
mina(are) of
ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ
l-munẓarīnathose given respite
٨٠
(80)
[Allāh] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved

إِلَىٰ
ilāUntil
يَوْمِ
yawmi(the) Day
ٱلْوَقْتِ
l-waqti(of) the time
ٱلْمَعْلُومِ
l-maʿlūmiwell-known
٨١
(81)
Until the Day of the time well-known."

qālaHe said
فَبِعِزَّتِكَ
fabiʿizzatikaThen by Your might
لَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ
la-ugh'wiyannahumI will surely mislead them
أَجْمَعِينَ
ajmaʿīnaall
٨٢
(82)
[Iblees] said, "By Your might, I will surely mislead them all

عِبَادَكَ
ʿibādakaYour slaves
مِنْهُمُ
min'humuamong them
ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ
l-mukh'laṣīnathe chosen ones

(83)
Except, among them, Your chosen servants."

qālaHe said
فَٱلْحَقُّ
fal-ḥaquThen (it is) the truth
وَٱلْحَقَّ
wal-ḥaqaand the truth
أَقُولُ
aqūluI say
٨٤
(84)
[Allāh] said, "The truth [is My oath], and the truth I say -

لَأَمْلَأَنَّ
la-amla-annaSurely I will fill
جَهَنَّمَ
jahannamaHell
مِنكَ
minkawith you
وَمِمَّن
wamimmanand those who
تَبِعَكَ
tabiʿakafollow you
مِنْهُمْ
min'humamong them
أَجْمَعِينَ
ajmaʿīnaall
٨٥
(85)
[That] I will surely fill Hell with you and those of them that follow you all together."

Not
أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ
asalukumI ask of you
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhifor it

أَجْرٍۢ

anāI am
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ
l-mutakalifīnathe ones who pretend
٨٦
(86)
Say, [O Muḥammad], "I do not ask you for it [i.e., the Qur’ān] any payment, and I am not of the pretentious.

إِلَّا

لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
lil'ʿālamīnato the worlds

It is but a reminder to the worlds.

وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ
walataʿlamunnaAnd surely you will know
نَبَأَهُۥ
naba-ahuits information
بَعْدَ
baʿdaafter
حِينٍۭ
ḥīnina time

And you will surely know [the truth of] its information after a time."
