تَنزِيلٌۭ
tanzīlunA revelation
مِّنَ
minafrom
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ
l-raḥmānithe Most Gracious
ٱلرَّحِيمِ
l-raḥīmithe Most Merciful
٢
(2)
[This is] a revelation from the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful -

كِتَـٰبٌۭ
kitābunA Book
فُصِّلَتْ
fuṣṣilatare detailed
ءَايَـٰتُهُۥ
āyātuhuits Verses
قُرْءَانًا
qur'ānana Quran
عَرَبِيًّۭا
ʿarabiyyan(in) Arabic
لِّقَوْمٍۢ
liqawminfor a people
يَعْلَمُونَ
yaʿlamūna(who) know
٣
(3)
A Book whose verses have been detailed, an Arabic Qur’ān for a people who know,

بَشِيرًۭا
bashīranA giver of glad tidings
وَنَذِيرًۭا
wanadhīranand a warner
فَأَعْرَضَ
fa-aʿraḍabut turn away
أَكْثَرُهُمْ
aktharuhummost of them
فَهُمْ
fahumso they
لَا
(do) not
يَسْمَعُونَ
yasmaʿūnahear
٤
(4)
As a giver of good tidings and a warner; but most of them turn away, so they do not hear.

وَقَالُوا۟
waqālūAnd they say
قُلُوبُنَا
qulūbunāOur hearts
فِىٓ
(are) in
أَكِنَّةٍۢ
akinnatincoverings
مِّمَّا
mimmāfrom what
تَدْعُونَآ
tadʿūnāyou call us
إِلَيْهِ
ilayhito it
وَفِىٓ
wafīand in
ءَاذَانِنَا
ādhānināour ears
وَقْرٌۭ
waqrun(is) deafness
وَمِنۢ
waminand between us
بَيْنِنَا
baynināand between us
وَبَيْنِكَ
wabaynikaand between you
حِجَابٌۭ
ḥijābun(is) a screen
فَٱعْمَلْ
fa-iʿ'malSo work
إِنَّنَا
innanāindeed, we
عَـٰمِلُونَ
ʿāmilūna(are) working
٥
(5)
And they say, "Our hearts are within coverings [i.e., screened] from that to which you invite us, and in our ears is deafness, and between us and you is a partition, so work; indeed, we are working."

قُلْ
qulSay
إِنَّمَآ
innamāOnly
أَنَا۠
anāI am
بَشَرٌۭ
basharuna man
مِّثْلُكُمْ
mith'lukumlike you
يُوحَىٰٓ
yūḥāit is revealed
إِلَىَّ
ilayyato me
أَنَّمَآ
annamāthat
إِلَـٰهُكُمْ
ilāhukumyour god
إِلَـٰهٌۭ
ilāhun(is) God
وَٰحِدٌۭ
wāḥidunOne
فَٱسْتَقِيمُوٓا۟
fa-is'taqīmūso take a Straight Path
إِلَيْهِ
ilayhito Him
وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوهُ ۗ
wa-is'taghfirūhuand ask His forgiveness
وَوَيْلٌۭ
wawaylunAnd woe
لِّلْمُشْرِكِينَ
lil'mush'rikīnato the polytheists
٦
(6)
Say, [O Muḥammad], "I am only a man like you to whom it has been revealed that your god is but one God; so take a straight course to Him and seek His forgiveness." And woe to those who associate others with Allāh –

ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnaThose who
لَا
(do) not
يُؤْتُونَ
yu'tūnagive
ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ
l-zakatathe zakah
وَهُم
wahumand they
بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
bil-ākhiratiin the Hereafter
هُمْ
humthey
كَـٰفِرُونَ
kāfirūna(are) disbelievers
٧
(7)
Those who do not give zakāh, and in the Hereafter they are disbelievers.

إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
لَهُمْ
lahumfor them
أَجْرٌ
ajrun(is) a reward
غَيْرُ
ghayrunever ending
مَمْنُونٍۢ
mamnūninnever ending
٨
(8)
Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds - for them is a reward uninterrupted.

۞ قُلْ
qulSay
أَئِنَّكُمْ
a-innakumDo you indeed
لَتَكْفُرُونَ
latakfurūna[surely] disbelieve
بِٱلَّذِى
bi-alladhīin the One Who
خَلَقَ
khalaqacreated
ٱلْأَرْضَ
l-arḍathe earth
فِى
in
يَوْمَيْنِ
yawmaynitwo periods
وَتَجْعَلُونَ
watajʿalūnaand you set up
لَهُۥٓ
lahuwith Him
أَندَادًۭا ۚ
andādanrivals
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
رَبُّ
rabbu(is the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
l-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds
٩
(9)
Say, "Do you indeed disbelieve in He who created the earth in two days and attribute to Him equals? That is the Lord of the worlds."

وَجَعَلَ
wajaʿalaAnd He placed
فِيهَا
fīhātherein
رَوَٰسِىَ
rawāsiyafirmly-set mountains
مِن
minabove it
فَوْقِهَا
fawqihāabove it
وَبَـٰرَكَ
wabārakaand He blessed
فِيهَا
fīhātherein
وَقَدَّرَ
waqaddaraand determined
فِيهَآ
fīhātherein
أَقْوَٰتَهَا
aqwātahāits sustenance
فِىٓ
in
أَرْبَعَةِ
arbaʿatifour
أَيَّامٍۢ
ayyāminperiods
سَوَآءًۭ
sawāanequal
لِّلسَّآئِلِينَ
lilssāilīnafor those who ask
١٠
(10)
And He placed on it [i.e., the earth] firmly set mountains over its surface, and He blessed it and determined therein its [creatures'] sustenance in four days without distinction - for [the information of] those who ask.

ثُمَّ
thummaThen
ٱسْتَوَىٰٓ
is'tawāHe directed (Himself)
إِلَى
ilātowards
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāithe heaven
وَهِىَ
wahiyawhile it (was)
دُخَانٌۭ
dukhānunsmoke
فَقَالَ
faqālaand He said
لَهَا
lahāto it
وَلِلْأَرْضِ
walil'arḍiand to the earth
ٱئْتِيَا
i'tiyāCome both of you
طَوْعًا
ṭawʿanwillingly
أَوْ
awor
كَرْهًۭا
karhanunwillingly
قَالَتَآ
qālatāThey both said
أَتَيْنَا
ataynāWe come
طَآئِعِينَ
ṭāiʿīnawillingly
١١
(11)
Then He directed Himself to the heaven while it was smoke and said to it and to the earth, "Come [into being], willingly or by compulsion." They said, "We have come willingly."

فَقَضَىٰهُنَّ
faqaḍāhunnaThen He completed them
سَبْعَ
sabʿa(as) seven
سَمَـٰوَاتٍۢ
samāwātinheavens
فِى
in
يَوْمَيْنِ
yawmaynitwo periods
وَأَوْحَىٰ
wa-awḥāand He revealed
فِى
in
كُلِّ
kullieach
سَمَآءٍ
samāinheaven
أَمْرَهَا ۚ
amrahāits affair
وَزَيَّنَّا
wazayyannāAnd We adorned
ٱلسَّمَآءَ
l-samāathe heaven
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā[the world]
بِمَصَـٰبِيحَ
bimaṣābīḥawith lamps
وَحِفْظًۭا ۚ
waḥif'ẓanand (to) guard
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
تَقْدِيرُ
taqdīru(is the) Decree
ٱلْعَزِيزِ
l-ʿazīzi(of) the All-Mighty
ٱلْعَلِيمِ
l-ʿalīmithe All-Knower
١٢
(12)
And He completed them as seven heavens within two days and inspired [i.e., made known] in each heaven its command. And We adorned the nearest heaven with lamps [i.e., stars, for beauty] and as protection. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.

فَإِنْ
fa-inBut if
أَعْرَضُوا۟
aʿraḍūthey turn away
فَقُلْ
faqulthen say
أَنذَرْتُكُمْ
andhartukumI have warned you
صَـٰعِقَةًۭ
ṣāʿiqatan(of) a thunderbolt
مِّثْلَ
mith'lalike
صَـٰعِقَةِ
ṣāʿiqati(the) thunderbolt
عَادٍۢ
ʿādin(of) Aad
وَثَمُودَ
wathamūdaand Thamud
١٣
(13)
But if they turn away, then say, "I have warned you of a thunderbolt like the thunderbolt [that struck] ʿAad and Thamūd.

إِذْ
idhWhen
جَآءَتْهُمُ
jāathumucame to them
ٱلرُّسُلُ
l-rusuluthe Messengers
مِنۢ
minfrom before them
بَيْنِ
baynifrom before them
أَيْدِيهِمْ
aydīhimfrom before them
وَمِنْ
waminand from
خَلْفِهِمْ
khalfihimbehind them
أَلَّا
allā(saying) "Do not
تَعْبُدُوٓا۟
taʿbudūworship
إِلَّا
illāexcept
ٱللَّهَ ۖ
l-lahaAllah
قَالُوا۟
qālūThey said
لَوْ
lawIf
شَآءَ
shāa(had) willed
رَبُّنَا
rabbunāour Lord
لَأَنزَلَ
la-anzalasurely, He (would have) sent down
مَلَـٰٓئِكَةًۭ
malāikatanAngels
فَإِنَّا
fa-innāSo indeed, we
بِمَآ
bimāin what
أُرْسِلْتُم
ur'sil'tumyou have been sent
بِهِۦ
bihiwith
كَـٰفِرُونَ
kāfirūna(are) disbelievers
١٤
(14)
[That occurred] when the messengers had come to them before them and after them, [saying], "Worship not except Allāh." They said, "If our Lord had willed, He would have sent down the angels, so indeed we, in that with which you have been sent, are disbelievers."

فَأَمَّا
fa-ammāThen as for
عَادٌۭ
ʿādunAad
فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟
fa-is'takbarūthey were arrogant
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe land
بِغَيْرِ
bighayriwithout
ٱلْحَقِّ
l-ḥaqi[the] right
وَقَالُوا۟
waqālūand they said
مَنْ
manWho
أَشَدُّ
ashaddu(is) mightier
مِنَّا
minnāthan us
قُوَّةً ۖ
quwwatan(in) strength
أَوَلَمْ
awalamDo not
يَرَوْا۟
yarawthey see
أَنَّ
annathat
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
ٱلَّذِى
alladhīthe One Who
خَلَقَهُمْ
khalaqahumcreated them
هُوَ
huwaHe
أَشَدُّ
ashaddu(is) Mightier
مِنْهُمْ
min'humthan them
قُوَّةًۭ ۖ
quwwatan(in) strength
وَكَانُوا۟
wakānūBut they used to
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا
biāyātināin Our Signs
يَجْحَدُونَ
yajḥadūnadeny
١٥
(15)
As for ʿAad, they were arrogant upon the earth without right and said, "Who is greater than us in strength?" Did they not consider that Allāh who created them was greater than them in strength? But they were rejecting Our signs.

فَأَرْسَلْنَا
fa-arsalnāSo We sent
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhimupon them
رِيحًۭا
rīḥana wind
صَرْصَرًۭا
ṣarṣaranfurious
فِىٓ
in
أَيَّامٍۢ
ayyāmin(the) days
نَّحِسَاتٍۢ
naḥisātin(of) misfortune
لِّنُذِيقَهُمْ
linudhīqahumthat We may make them taste
عَذَابَ
ʿadhāba(the) punishment
ٱلْخِزْىِ
l-khiz'yi(of) disgrace
فِى
in
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayatithe life
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ
l-dun'yā(of) the world
وَلَعَذَابُ
walaʿadhābuAnd surely, (the) punishment
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
l-ākhirati(of) the Hereafter
أَخْزَىٰ ۖ
akhzā(is) more disgracing
وَهُمْ
wahumand they
لَا
will not be helped
يُنصَرُونَ
yunṣarūnawill not be helped
١٦
(16)
So We sent upon them a screaming wind during days of misfortune to make them taste the punishment of disgrace in the worldly life; but the punishment of the Hereafter is more disgracing, and they will not be helped.

وَأَمَّا
wa-ammāAnd as for
ثَمُودُ
thamūduThamud
فَهَدَيْنَـٰهُمْ
fahadaynāhumWe guided them
فَٱسْتَحَبُّوا۟
fa-is'taḥabbūbut they preferred
ٱلْعَمَىٰ
l-ʿamā[the] blindness
عَلَى
ʿalāover
ٱلْهُدَىٰ
l-hudāthe guidance
فَأَخَذَتْهُمْ
fa-akhadhathumso seized them
صَـٰعِقَةُ
ṣāʿiqatua thunderbolt
ٱلْعَذَابِ
l-ʿadhābi(of) the punishment
ٱلْهُونِ
l-hūnihumiliating
بِمَا
bimāfor what
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey used to
يَكْسِبُونَ
yaksibūnaearn
١٧
(17)
And as for Thamūd, We guided them, but they preferred blindness over guidance, so the thunderbolt of humiliating punishment seized them for what they used to earn.

وَنَجَّيْنَا
wanajjaynāAnd We saved
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieved
وَكَانُوا۟
wakānūand used to
يَتَّقُونَ
yattaqūnafear (Allah)
١٨
(18)
And We saved those who believed and used to fear Allāh.

وَيَوْمَ
wayawmaAnd (the) Day
يُحْشَرُ
yuḥ'sharuwill be gathered
أَعْدَآءُ
aʿdāu(the) enemies
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
إِلَى
ilāto
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nārithe Fire
فَهُمْ
fahumthen they
يُوزَعُونَ
yūzaʿūnawill be assembled in rows
١٩
(19)
And [mention, O Muḥammad], the Day when the enemies of Allāh will be gathered to the Fire while they are [driven], assembled in rows,

حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattāUntil
إِذَا
idhāwhen
مَا
when
جَآءُوهَا
jāūhāthey come to it
شَهِدَ
shahida(will) testify
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhimagainst them
سَمْعُهُمْ
samʿuhumtheir hearing
وَأَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ
wa-abṣāruhumand their sight
وَجُلُودُهُم
wajulūduhumand their skins
بِمَا
bimā(as) to what
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey used to
يَعْمَلُونَ
yaʿmalūnado
٢٠
(20)
Until, when they reach it, their hearing and their eyes and their skins will testify against them of what they used to do.

وَقَالُوا۟
waqālūAnd they will say
لِجُلُودِهِمْ
lijulūdihimto their skins
لِمَ
limaWhy do
شَهِدتُّمْ
shahidttumyou testify
عَلَيْنَا ۖ
ʿalaynāagainst us
قَالُوٓا۟
qālūThey will say
أَنطَقَنَا
anṭaqanāAllah made us speak
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah made us speak
ٱلَّذِىٓ
alladhīthe One Who
أَنطَقَ
anṭaqamakes speak
كُلَّ
kullaevery
شَىْءٍۢ
shayinthing
وَهُوَ
wahuwaand He
خَلَقَكُمْ
khalaqakumcreated you
أَوَّلَ
awwala(the) first
مَرَّةٍۢ
marratintime
وَإِلَيْهِ
wa-ilayhiand to Him
تُرْجَعُونَ
tur'jaʿūnayou will be returned
٢١
(21)
And they will say to their skins, "Why have you testified against us?" They will say, "We were made to speak by Allāh, who has made everything speak; and He created you the first time, and to Him you are returned.

وَمَا
wamāAnd not
كُنتُمْ
kuntumyou were
تَسْتَتِرُونَ
tastatirūnacovering yourselves
أَن
anlest
يَشْهَدَ
yashhadatestify
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykumagainst you
سَمْعُكُمْ
samʿukumyour hearing
وَلَآ
walāand not
أَبْصَـٰرُكُمْ
abṣārukumyour sight
وَلَا
walāand not
جُلُودُكُمْ
julūdukumyour skins
وَلَـٰكِن
walākinbut
ظَنَنتُمْ
ẓanantumyou assumed
أَنَّ
annathat
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
لَا
(does) not
يَعْلَمُ
yaʿlamuknow
كَثِيرًۭا
kathīranmuch
مِّمَّا
mimmāof what
تَعْمَلُونَ
taʿmalūnayou do
٢٢
(22)
And you were not covering [i.e., protecting] yourselves, lest your hearing testify against you or your sight or your skins, but you assumed that Allāh does not know much of what you do.

وَذَٰلِكُمْ
wadhālikumAnd that
ظَنُّكُمُ
ẓannukumu(was) your assumption
ٱلَّذِى
alladhīwhich
ظَنَنتُم
ẓanantumyou assumed
بِرَبِّكُمْ
birabbikumabout your Lord
أَرْدَىٰكُمْ
ardākumIt has ruined you
فَأَصْبَحْتُم
fa-aṣbaḥtumand you have become
مِّنَ
minaof
ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ
l-khāsirīnathe losers
٢٣
(23)
And that was your assumption which you assumed about your Lord. It has brought you to ruin, and you have become among the losers."

24
فَإِن
fa-inThen if
يَصْبِرُوا۟
yaṣbirūthey endure
فَٱلنَّارُ
fal-nāruthe Fire
مَثْوًۭى
mathwan(is) an abode
لَّهُمْ ۖ
lahumfor them
وَإِن
wa-inand if
يَسْتَعْتِبُوا۟
yastaʿtibūthey ask for favor
فَمَا
famāthen not
هُم
humthey
مِّنَ
mina(will be) of
ٱلْمُعْتَبِينَ
l-muʿ'tabīnathose who receive favor
٢٤
(24)
So [even] if they are patient, the Fire is a residence for them; and if they ask to appease [Allāh], they will not be of those who are allowed to appease.

۞ وَقَيَّضْنَا
waqayyaḍnāAnd We have destined
لَهُمْ
lahumfor them
قُرَنَآءَ
quranāacompanions
فَزَيَّنُوا۟
fazayyanū(who) made fair-seeming
لَهُم
lahumto them
مَّا
what
بَيْنَ
bayna(was) before them
أَيْدِيهِمْ
aydīhim(was) before them
وَمَا
wamāand what
خَلْفَهُمْ
khalfahum(was) behind them
وَحَقَّ
waḥaqqaand (is) justified
عَلَيْهِمُ
ʿalayhimuagainst them
ٱلْقَوْلُ
l-qawluthe Word
فِىٓ
among
أُمَمٍۢ
umaminnations
قَدْ
qad(that have) passed away
خَلَتْ
khalat(that have) passed away
مِن
minbefore them
قَبْلِهِم
qablihimbefore them
مِّنَ
minaof
ٱلْجِنِّ
l-jinithe jinn
وَٱلْإِنسِ ۖ
wal-insiand the men
إِنَّهُمْ
innahumIndeed, they
كَانُوا۟
kānūwere
خَـٰسِرِينَ
khāsirīnalosers
٢٥
(25)
And We appointed for them companions who made attractive to them what was before them and what was behind them [of sin], and the word [i.e., decree] has come into effect upon them among nations which had passed on before them of jinn and men. Indeed, they [all] were losers.

وَقَالَ
waqālaAnd said
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
لَا
(Do) not
تَسْمَعُوا۟
tasmaʿūlisten
لِهَـٰذَا
lihādhāto this
ٱلْقُرْءَانِ
l-qur'āniQuran
وَٱلْغَوْا۟
wal-ghawand make noise
فِيهِ
fīhitherein
لَعَلَّكُمْ
laʿallakumso that you may
تَغْلِبُونَ
taghlibūnaovercome
٢٦
(26)
And those who disbelieve say, "Do not listen to this Qur’ān and speak noisily during [the recitation of] it that perhaps you will overcome."

فَلَنُذِيقَنَّ
falanudhīqannaBut surely We will cause to taste
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
عَذَابًۭا
ʿadhābana punishment
شَدِيدًۭا
shadīdansevere
وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ
walanajziyannahumand surely We will recompense them
أَسْوَأَ
aswa-a(the) worst
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī(of) what
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey used to
يَعْمَلُونَ
yaʿmalūnado
٢٧
(27)
But We will surely cause those who disbelieve to taste a severe punishment, and We will surely recompense them for the worst of what they had been doing.

ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
جَزَآءُ
jazāu(is the) recompense
أَعْدَآءِ
aʿdāi(of the) enemies
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
ٱلنَّارُ ۖ
l-nāruthe Fire
لَهُمْ
lahumfor them
فِيهَا
fīhātherein
دَارُ
dāru(is the) home
ٱلْخُلْدِ ۖ
l-khul'di(of) the eternity
جَزَآءًۢ
jazāan(as) recompense
بِمَا
bimāfor what
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey used to
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا
biāyātināof Our Verses
يَجْحَدُونَ
yajḥadūnareject
٢٨
(28)
That is the recompense of the enemies of Allāh - the Fire. For them therein is the home of eternity as recompense for what they, of Our verses, were rejecting.

وَقَالَ
waqālaAnd (will) say
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
رَبَّنَآ
rabbanāOur Lord
أَرِنَا
arināShow us
ٱلَّذَيْنِ
alladhaynithose who
أَضَلَّانَا
aḍallānāmisled us
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْجِنِّ
l-jinithe jinn
وَٱلْإِنسِ
wal-insiand the men
نَجْعَلْهُمَا
najʿalhumā(so) we may put them
تَحْتَ
taḥtaunder
أَقْدَامِنَا
aqdāmināour feet
لِيَكُونَا
liyakūnāthat they be
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْأَسْفَلِينَ
l-asfalīnathe lowest
٢٩
(29)
And those who disbelieved will [then] say, "Our Lord, show us those who misled us of the jinn and men [so] we may put them under our feet that they will be among the lowest."

إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
قَالُوا۟
qālūsay
رَبُّنَا
rabbunāOur Lord
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu(is) Allah
ثُمَّ
thummathen
ٱسْتَقَـٰمُوا۟
is'taqāmūstand firm
تَتَنَزَّلُ
tatanazzaluwill descend
عَلَيْهِمُ
ʿalayhimuon them
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ
l-malāikatuthe Angels
أَلَّا
allā(Do) not
تَخَافُوا۟
takhāfūfear
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تَحْزَنُوا۟
taḥzanūgrieve
وَأَبْشِرُوا۟
wa-abshirūbut receive the glad tidings
بِٱلْجَنَّةِ
bil-janatiof Paradise
ٱلَّتِى
allatīwhich
كُنتُمْ
kuntumyou were
تُوعَدُونَ
tūʿadūnapromised
٣٠
(30)
Indeed, those who have said, "Our Lord is Allāh" and then remained on a right course - the angels will descend upon them, [saying], "Do not fear and do not grieve but receive good tidings of Paradise, which you were promised.

نَحْنُ
naḥnuWe
أَوْلِيَآؤُكُمْ
awliyāukum(are) your protectors
فِى
in
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayatithe life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā(of) the world
وَفِى
wafīand in
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۖ
l-ākhiratithe Hereafter
وَلَكُمْ
walakumAnd for you
فِيهَا
fīhātherein
مَا
whatever
تَشْتَهِىٓ
tashtahīdesire
أَنفُسُكُمْ
anfusukumyour souls
وَلَكُمْ
walakumand for you
فِيهَا
fīhātherein
مَا
what
تَدَّعُونَ
taddaʿūnayou ask
٣١
(31)
We [angels] were your allies in worldly life and [are so] in the Hereafter. And you will have therein whatever your souls desire, and you will have therein whatever you request [or wish]

As accommodation from a [Lord who is] Forgiving and Merciful."

أَحْسَنُ
aḥsanu(is) better
قَوْلًۭا
qawlan(in) speech
مِّمَّن
mimmanthan (one) who
دَعَآ
daʿāinvites
إِلَى
ilāto
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
وَعَمِلَ
waʿamilaand does
صَـٰلِحًۭا
ṣāliḥanrighteous (deeds)
وَقَالَ
waqālaand says
إِنَّنِى
innanīIndeed, I am
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ
l-mus'limīnathose who submit
٣٣
(33)
And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allāh and does righteousness and says, "Indeed, I am of the Muslims."

تَسْتَوِى
tastawī(are) equal
ٱلْحَسَنَةُ
l-ḥasanatuthe good (deed)
وَلَا
walāand
ٱلسَّيِّئَةُ ۚ
l-sayi-atuthe evil (deed)
ٱدْفَعْ
id'faʿRepel
بِٱلَّتِى
bi-allatīby (that) which
هِىَ
hiya[it]
أَحْسَنُ
aḥsanu(is) better
فَإِذَا
fa-idhāthen behold
ٱلَّذِى
alladhīOne who
بَيْنَكَ
baynakabetween you
وَبَيْنَهُۥ
wabaynahuand between him
عَدَٰوَةٌۭ
ʿadāwatun(was) enmity
كَأَنَّهُۥ
ka-annahu(will become) as if he
وَلِىٌّ
waliyyun(was) a friend
حَمِيمٌۭ
ḥamīmunintimate
٣٤
(34)
And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that [deed] which is better; and thereupon, the one whom between you and him is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend.

وَمَا
wamāAnd not
يُلَقَّىٰهَآ
yulaqqāhāit is granted
إِلَّا
illāexcept
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna(to) those who
صَبَرُوا۟
ṣabarū(are) patient
وَمَا
wamāand not
يُلَقَّىٰهَآ
yulaqqāhāit is granted
إِلَّا
illāexcept
ذُو
dhū(to the) owner
حَظٍّ
ḥaẓẓin(of) fortune
عَظِيمٍۢ
ʿaẓīmingreat
٣٥
(35)
But none is granted it except those who are patient, and none is granted it except one having a great portion [of good].

وَإِمَّا
wa-immāAnd if
يَنزَغَنَّكَ
yanzaghannakawhisper comes to you
مِنَ
minafrom
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ
l-shayṭānithe Shaitaan
نَزْغٌۭ
nazghunan evil suggestion
فَٱسْتَعِذْ
fa-is'taʿidhthen seek refuge
بِٱللَّهِ ۖ
bil-lahiin Allah
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, He
هُوَ
huwa[He]
ٱلسَّمِيعُ
l-samīʿu(is) the All-Hearer
ٱلْعَلِيمُ
l-ʿalīmuthe All-Knower
٣٦
(36)
And if there comes to you from Satan an evil suggestion, then seek refuge in Allāh. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

ءَايَـٰتِهِ

ٱلَّيْلُ
al-laylu(are) the night
وَٱلنَّهَارُ
wal-nahāruand the day
وَٱلشَّمْسُ

وَٱلْقَمَرُ ۚ
wal-qamaruand the moon
لَا
(Do) not
تَسْجُدُوا۟
tasjudūprostrate
لِلشَّمْسِ
lilshamsito the sun
وَلَا
walāand not
لِلْقَمَرِ
lil'qamarito the moon
وَٱسْجُدُوا۟
wa-us'judūbut prostrate
لِلَّهِ
lillahito Allah
ٱلَّذِى
alladhīthe One Who
خَلَقَهُنَّ
khalaqahunnacreated them
إِن
inif
كُنتُمْ
kuntumyou
إِيَّاهُ
iyyāhuHim alone
تَعْبُدُونَ
taʿbudūnaworship
٣٧
(37)
And of His signs are the night and day and the sun and moon. Do not prostrate to the sun or to the moon, but prostrate to Allāh, who created them, if it should be Him that you worship.

ٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟
is'takbarūthey are arrogant
فَٱلَّذِينَ
fa-alladhīnathen those who
عِندَ
ʿinda(are) near
رَبِّكَ

يُسَبِّحُونَ
yusabbiḥūnaglorify
لَهُۥ
lahuHim
بِٱلَّيْلِ
bi-al-layliby night
وَٱلنَّهَارِ
wal-nahāriand day
وَهُمْ
wahumAnd they
لَا
(do) not
يَسْـَٔمُونَ ۩
yasamūnatire
٣٨
(38)
But if they are arrogant - then those who are near your Lord [i.e., the angels] exalt Him by night and by day, and they do not become weary.

وَمِنْ
waminAnd among
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓ
āyātihiHis Signs
أَنَّكَ
annaka(is) that you
تَرَى
tarāsee
ٱلْأَرْضَ
l-arḍathe earth
خَـٰشِعَةًۭ
khāshiʿatanbarren
فَإِذَآ
fa-idhābut when
أَنزَلْنَا
anzalnāWe send down
عَلَيْهَا
ʿalayhāupon it
ٱلْمَآءَ
l-māawater
ٱهْتَزَّتْ
ih'tazzatit is stirred (to life)
وَرَبَتْ ۚ
warabatand grows
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱلَّذِىٓ
alladhīthe One Who
أَحْيَاهَا
aḥyāhāgives it life
لَمُحْىِ
lamuḥ'yī(is) surely the Giver of life
ٱلْمَوْتَىٰٓ ۚ
l-mawtā(to) the dead
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, He
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā(is) on
كُلِّ
kullievery
شَىْءٍۢ
shayinthing
قَدِيرٌ
qadīrunAll-Powerful
٣٩
(39)
And of His signs is that you see the earth stilled, but when We send down upon it rain, it quivers and grows. Indeed, He who has given it life is the Giver of Life to the dead. Indeed, He is over all things competent.

ءَايَـٰتِنَا

يَخْفَوْنَ
yakhfawnahidden
عَلَيْنَآ ۗ
ʿalaynāfrom Us
أَفَمَن
afamanSo, is (he) who
يُلْقَىٰ
yul'qāis cast
فِى
in
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nārithe Fire
خَيْرٌ
khayrunbetter
أَم
amor
مَّن
man(he) who
يَأْتِىٓ
yatīcomes
ءَامِنًۭا
āminansecure
يَوْمَ
yawma(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۚ
l-qiyāmati(of) Resurrection
ٱعْمَلُوا۟
iʿ'malūDo
مَا
what
شِئْتُمْ ۖ
shi'tumyou will
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, He
بِمَا
bimāof what
تَعْمَلُونَ
taʿmalūnayou do
بَصِيرٌ
baṣīrun(is) All-Seer
٤٠
(40)
Indeed, those who inject deviation into Our verses are not concealed from Us. So, is he who is cast into the Fire better or he who comes secure on the Day of Resurrection? Do whatever you will; indeed, He is Seeing of what you do.

كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
بِٱلذِّكْرِ
bil-dhik'riin the Reminder
لَمَّا
lammāwhen
جَآءَهُمْ ۖ
jāahumit comes to them
وَإِنَّهُۥ
wa-innahuAnd indeed, it
لَكِتَـٰبٌ
lakitābun(is) surely a Book
عَزِيزٌۭ
ʿazīzunmighty
٤١
(41)
Indeed, those who disbelieve in the message [i.e., the Qur’ān] after it has come to them... And indeed, it is a mighty Book.

يَأْتِيهِ

ٱلْبَـٰطِلُ
l-bāṭiluthe falsehood
مِنۢ

بَيْنِ

يَدَيْهِ

وَلَا
walāand not
مِنْ
minfrom
خَلْفِهِۦ ۖ
khalfihibehind it
تَنزِيلٌۭ
tanzīlunA Revelation
مِّنْ
minfrom
حَكِيمٍ
ḥakīmin(the) All-Wise
حَمِيدٍۢ
ḥamīdin(the) Praiseworthy
٤٢
(42)
Falsehood cannot approach it from before it or from behind it; [it is] a revelation from a [Lord who is] Wise and Praiseworthy.

لَذُو
ladhū(is) Possessor
مَغْفِرَةٍۢ
maghfiratin(of) forgiveness
وَذُو
wadhūand Possessor
عِقَابٍ
ʿiqābin(of) penalty
أَلِيمٍۢ
alīminpainful
٤٣
(43)
Nothing is said to you, [O Muḥammad], except what was already said to the messengers before you. Indeed, your Lord is a possessor of forgiveness and a possessor of painful penalty.

walawAnd if
جَعَلْنَـٰهُ
jaʿalnāhuWe (had) made it
قُرْءَانًا
qur'ānana Quran
أَعْجَمِيًّۭا
aʿjamiyyan(in) a foreign (language)
لَّقَالُوا۟
laqālūthey (would have) said
لَوْلَا
lawlāWhy not
فُصِّلَتْ
fuṣṣilatare explained in detail
ءَايَـٰتُهُۥٓ ۖ
āyātuhuits verses
ءَا۬عْجَمِىٌّۭ
āʿ'jamiyyun(Is it) a foreign (language)
وَعَرَبِىٌّۭ ۗ
waʿarabiyyunand an Arab
قُلْ
qulSay
هُوَ
huwaIt (is)
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhīnafor those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieve
هُدًۭى
hudana guidance
وَشِفَآءٌۭ ۖ
washifāonand a healing
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaAnd those who
لَا
(do) not
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūnabelieve
فِىٓ
in
ءَاذَانِهِمْ
ādhānihimtheir ears
وَقْرٌۭ
waqrun(is) deafness
وَهُوَ
wahuwaand it
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhim(is) for them
عَمًى ۚ
ʿamanblindness
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāikaThose
يُنَادَوْنَ
yunādawnaare being called
مِن
minfrom
مَّكَانٍۭ
makānina place
بَعِيدٍۢ
baʿīdinfar
٤٤
(44)
And if We had made it a foreign [i.e., non-Arabic] Qur’ān, they would have said, "Why are its verses not explained in detail [in our language]? Is it a foreign [recitation] and an Arab [messenger]?" Say, "It is, for those who believe, a guidance and cure." And those who do not believe - in their ears is deafness, and it is upon them blindness. Those are being called from a distant place.

وَلَقَدْ
walaqadAnd certainly
ءَاتَيْنَا
ātaynāWe gave
مُوسَى
mūsāMusa
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ
l-kitābathe Book
فَٱخْتُلِفَ
fa-ukh'tulifabut disputes arose
فِيهِ ۗ
fīhitherein
وَلَوْلَا
walawlāAnd had it not been
كَلِمَةٌۭ
kalimatun(for) a word
سَبَقَتْ
sabaqat(that) preceded
مِن
minfrom
رَّبِّكَ
rabbikayour Lord
لَقُضِىَ
laquḍiyasurely, would have been settled
بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ
baynahumbetween them
وَإِنَّهُمْ
wa-innahumBut indeed, they
لَفِى
lafīsurely (are) in
شَكٍّۢ
shakkindoubt
مِّنْهُ
min'huabout it
مُرِيبٍۢ
murībindisquieting
٤٥
(45)
And We had already given Moses the Scripture, but it came under disagreement. And if not for a word [i.e., decree] that preceded from your Lord, it would have been concluded between them. And indeed they are, concerning it [i.e., the Qur’ān], in disquieting doubt.

مَّنْ
manWhoever
عَمِلَ
ʿamiladoes
صَـٰلِحًۭا
ṣāliḥanrighteous deeds
فَلِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ
falinafsihithen it is for his soul
وَمَنْ
wamanand whoever
أَسَآءَ
asāadoes evil
فَعَلَيْهَا ۗ
faʿalayhāthen it is against it
وَمَا
wamāAnd not
رَبُّكَ
rabbuka(is) your Lord
بِظَلَّـٰمٍۢ
biẓallāminunjust
لِّلْعَبِيدِ
lil'ʿabīdito His slaves
٤٦
(46)
Whoever does righteousness - it is for his [own] soul; and whoever does evil [does so] against it. And your Lord is not ever unjust to [His] servants.

۞ إِلَيْهِ

يُرَدُّ
yuradduis referred
عِلْمُ
ʿil'mu(the) knowledge
ٱلسَّاعَةِ ۚ
l-sāʿati(of) the Hour
وَمَا
wamāAnd not
تَخْرُجُ
takhrujucomes out
مِن
minany
ثَمَرَٰتٍۢ
thamarātinfruits
مِّنْ
minfrom
أَكْمَامِهَا
akmāmihātheir coverings
وَمَا
wamāand not
تَحْمِلُ
taḥmilubears
مِنْ
minany
أُنثَىٰ
unthāfemale
وَلَا
walāand not
تَضَعُ
taḍaʿugives birth
إِلَّا
illāexcept
بِعِلْمِهِۦ ۚ
biʿil'mihiwith His knowledge
وَيَوْمَ
wayawmaAnd (the) Day
يُنَادِيهِمْ
yunādīhimHe will call them
أَيْنَ
aynaWhere (are)
شُرَكَآءِى
shurakāīMy partners
قَالُوٓا۟
qālūThey will say
ءَاذَنَّـٰكَ
ādhannākaWe announce (to) You
مَا
not
مِنَّا
minnāamong us
مِن
minany
شَهِيدٍۢ
shahīdinwitness
٤٧
(47)
To Him [alone] is attributed knowledge of the Hour. And fruits emerge not from their coverings nor does a female conceive or give birth except with His knowledge. And the Day He will call to them, "Where are My 'partners'?" they will say, "We announce to You that there is [no longer] among us any witness [to that]."

waḍallaAnd lost
عَنْهُم

كَانُوا۟

يَدْعُونَ
yadʿūnainvoking
مِن
minbefore
قَبْلُ ۖ

وَظَنُّوا۟
waẓannūand they (will) be certain
مَا
(that) not
لَهُم
lahumfor them
مِّن
minany
مَّحِيصٍۢ
maḥīṣinplace of escape
٤٨
(48)
And lost from them will be those they were invoking before, and they will be certain that they have no place of escape.

لَّا
(Does) not
يَسْـَٔمُ
yasamuget tired
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ
l-insānuman
مِن
minof
دُعَآءِ
duʿāipraying
ٱلْخَيْرِ
l-khayri(for) the good
وَإِن
wa-inbut if
مَّسَّهُ
massahutouches him
ٱلشَّرُّ
l-sharuthe evil
فَيَـُٔوسٌۭ
fayaūsunthen he gives up hope
قَنُوطٌۭ
qanūṭun(and) despairs
٤٩
(49)
Man is not weary of supplication for good [things], but if evil touches him, he is hopeless and despairing.

وَلَئِنْ
wala-inAnd verily, if
أَذَقْنَـٰهُ
adhaqnāhuWe let him taste
رَحْمَةًۭ
raḥmatanmercy
مِّنَّا
minnāfrom Us
مِنۢ
minafter
بَعْدِ
baʿdiafter
ضَرَّآءَ
ḍarrāaan adversity
مَسَّتْهُ
massathu(has) touched him
لَيَقُولَنَّ
layaqūlannahe will surely say
هَـٰذَا
hādhāThis (is)
لِى
(due) to me
وَمَآ
wamāand not
أَظُنُّ
aẓunnuI think
ٱلسَّاعَةَ
l-sāʿatathe Hour
قَآئِمَةًۭ
qāimatan(will be) established
وَلَئِن
wala-inand if
رُّجِعْتُ
rujiʿ'tuI am returned
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
رَبِّىٓ
rabbīmy Lord
إِنَّ
innaindeed
لِى
for me
عِندَهُۥ
ʿindahuwith Him
لَلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ
lalḥus'nā(will be) the best
فَلَنُنَبِّئَنَّ
falanunabbi-annaBut We will surely inform
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieved
بِمَا
bimāabout what
عَمِلُوا۟
ʿamilūthey did
وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُم
walanudhīqannahumand We will surely make them taste
مِّنْ
minof
عَذَابٍ
ʿadhābina punishment
غَلِيظٍۢ
ghalīẓinsevere
٥٠
(50)
And if We let him taste mercy from Us after an adversity which has touched him, he will surely say, "This is [due] to me, and I do not think the Hour will occur; and [even] if I should be returned to my Lord, indeed, for me there will be with Him the best." But We will surely inform those who disbelieved about what they did, and We will surely make them taste a massive punishment.

وَإِذَآ
wa-idhāAnd when
أَنْعَمْنَا
anʿamnāWe bestow favor
عَلَى
ʿalāupon
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنِ
l-insāniman
أَعْرَضَ
aʿraḍahe turns away
وَنَـَٔا
wanaāand distances himself
بِجَانِبِهِۦ
bijānibihiand distances himself
وَإِذَا
wa-idhābut when
مَسَّهُ
massahutouches him
ٱلشَّرُّ
l-sharuthe evil
فَذُو
fadhūthen (he is) full
دُعَآءٍ
duʿāin(of) supplication
عَرِيضٍۢ
ʿarīḍinlengthy
٥١
(51)
And when We bestow favor upon man, he turns away and distances himself; but when evil touches him, then he is full of extensive supplication.

أَرَءَيْتُمْ

kafartumyou disbelieve
بِهِۦ

أَضَلُّ
aḍallu(is) more astray
مِمَّنْ
mimmanthan (one) who
هُوَ
huwahe
فِى
(is) in
شِقَاقٍۭ
shiqāqinopposition
بَعِيدٍۢ
baʿīdinfar
٥٢
(52)
Say, "Have you considered: if it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is from Allāh and you disbelieved in it, who would be more astray than one who is in extreme dissension?"

ءَايَـٰتِنَا

ٱلْـَٔافَاقِ
l-āfāqithe horizons
وَفِىٓ

anfusihimthemselves
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattāuntil
يَتَبَيَّنَ
yatabayyanabecomes clear
لَهُمْ
lahumto them
أَنَّهُ
annahuthat it
ٱلْحَقُّ ۗ
l-ḥaqu(is) the truth
أَوَلَمْ
awalamIs (it) not
يَكْفِ
yakfisufficient
بِرَبِّكَ
birabbikaconcerning your Lord
أَنَّهُۥ
annahuthat He
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā(is) over
كُلِّ
kulliall
شَىْءٍۢ
shayinthings
شَهِيدٌ
shahīduna Witness
٥٣
(53)
We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. But is it not sufficient concerning your Lord that He is, over all things, a Witness?

إِنَّهُمْ

(are) in
مِرْيَةٍۢ
mir'yatindoubt
مِّن
minabout
لِّقَآءِ
liqāi(the) meeting
رَبِّهِمْ ۗ
rabbihim(with) their Lord
أَلَآ
alāUnquestionably
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuindeed, He
بِكُلِّ
bikulli(is) of all
شَىْءٍۢ
shayinthings
مُّحِيطٌۢ
muḥīṭunencompassing
٥٤
(54)
Unquestionably, they are in doubt about the meeting with their Lord. Unquestionably He is, of all things, encompassing.
