ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnaThose who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
وَصَدُّوا۟
waṣaddūand turn away
عَن
ʿanfrom
سَبِيلِ
sabīli(the) way of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(the) way of Allah
أَضَلَّ
aḍallaHe will cause to be lost
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
aʿmālahumtheir deeds
١
(1)
Those who disbelieve and avert [people] from the way of Allāh - He will waste their deeds.

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaAnd those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
وَءَامَنُوا۟
waāmanūand believe
بِمَا
bimāin what
نُزِّلَ
nuzzilais revealed
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāto
مُحَمَّدٍۢ
muḥammadinMuhammad
وَهُوَ
wahuwaand it
ٱلْحَقُّ
l-ḥaqu(is) the truth
مِن
minfrom
رَّبِّهِمْ ۙ
rabbihimtheir Lord
كَفَّرَ
kaffaraHe will remove
عَنْهُمْ
ʿanhumfrom them
سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ
sayyiātihimtheir misdeeds
وَأَصْلَحَ
wa-aṣlaḥaand improve
بَالَهُمْ
bālahumtheir condition
٢
(2)
And those who believe and do righteous deeds and believe in what has been sent down upon Muḥammad - and it is the truth from their Lord - He will remove from them their misdeeds and amend their condition.

ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
بِأَنَّ
bi-anna(is) because
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
ٱتَّبَعُوا۟
ittabaʿūfollow
ٱلْبَـٰطِلَ
l-bāṭilafalsehood
وَأَنَّ
wa-annaand that
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieve
ٱتَّبَعُوا۟
ittabaʿūfollow
ٱلْحَقَّ
l-ḥaqa(the) truth
مِن
minfrom
رَّبِّهِمْ ۚ
rabbihimtheir Lord
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālikaThus
يَضْرِبُ
yaḍribuAllah presents
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah presents
لِلنَّاسِ
lilnnāsito the people
أَمْثَـٰلَهُمْ
amthālahumtheir similitudes
٣
(3)
That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, and those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus does Allāh present to the people their comparisons.

فَإِذَا
fa-idhāSo when
لَقِيتُمُ
laqītumuyou meet
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
فَضَرْبَ
faḍarbathen strike
ٱلرِّقَابِ
l-riqābithe necks
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattāuntil
إِذَآ
idhāwhen
أَثْخَنتُمُوهُمْ
athkhantumūhumyou have subdued them
فَشُدُّوا۟
fashuddūthen bind firmly
ٱلْوَثَاقَ
l-wathāqathe bond
فَإِمَّا
fa-immāthen either
مَنًّۢا
mannana favor
بَعْدُ
baʿduafterwards
وَإِمَّا
wa-immāor
فِدَآءً
fidāanransom
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattāuntil
تَضَعَ
taḍaʿalays down
ٱلْحَرْبُ
l-ḥarbuthe war
أَوْزَارَهَا ۚ
awzārahāits burdens
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
وَلَوْ
walawAnd if
يَشَآءُ
yashāuAllah had willed
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah had willed
لَٱنتَصَرَ
la-intaṣarasurely, He could have taken retribution
مِنْهُمْ
min'humfrom them
وَلَـٰكِن
walākinbut
لِّيَبْلُوَا۟
liyabluwāto test
بَعْضَكُم
baʿḍakumsome of you
بِبَعْضٍۢ ۗ
bibaʿḍinwith others
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaAnd those who
قُتِلُوا۟
qutilūare killed
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
sabīli(the) way of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(the) way of Allah
فَلَن
falanthen never
يُضِلَّ
yuḍillaHe will cause to be lost
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
aʿmālahumtheir deeds
٤
(4)
So when you meet those who disbelieve [in battle], strike [their] necks until, when you have inflicted slaughter upon them, then secure [their] bonds, and either [confer] favor afterwards or ransom [them] until the war lays down its burdens. That [is the command]. And if Allāh had willed, He could have taken vengeance upon them [Himself], but [He ordered armed struggle] to test some of you by means of others. And those who are killed in the cause of Allāh - never will He waste their deeds.

سَيَهْدِيهِمْ
sayahdīhimHe will guide them
وَيُصْلِحُ
wayuṣ'liḥuand improve
بَالَهُمْ
bālahumtheir condition
٥
(5)
He will guide them and amend their condition

وَيُدْخِلُهُمُ
wayud'khiluhumuAnd admit them
ٱلْجَنَّةَ
l-janata(to) Paradise
عَرَّفَهَا
ʿarrafahāHe has made it known
لَهُمْ
lahumto them
٦
(6)
And admit them to Paradise, which He has made known to them.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who(believe)
ءَامَنُوٓا۟
āmanūbelieve
إِن
inIf
تَنصُرُوا۟
tanṣurūyou help
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
يَنصُرْكُمْ
yanṣur'kumHe will help you
وَيُثَبِّتْ
wayuthabbitand make firm
أَقْدَامَكُمْ
aqdāmakumyour feet
٧
(7)
O you who have believed, if you support Allāh, He will support you and plant firmly your feet.

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaBut those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
فَتَعْسًۭا
fataʿsandestruction (is)
لَّهُمْ
lahumfor them
وَأَضَلَّ
wa-aḍallaand He will cause to be lost
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
aʿmālahumtheir deeds
٨
(8)
But those who disbelieve - for them is misery, and He will waste their deeds.

ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
بِأَنَّهُمْ
bi-annahum(is) because they
كَرِهُوا۟
karihūhate
مَآ
what
أَنزَلَ
anzalaAllah has revealed
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah has revealed
فَأَحْبَطَ
fa-aḥbaṭaso He has made worthless
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
aʿmālahumtheir deeds
٩
(9)
That is because they disliked what Allāh revealed, so He rendered worthless their deeds.

۞ أَفَلَمْ
afalamDo not
يَسِيرُوا۟
yasīrūthey travel
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
فَيَنظُرُوا۟
fayanẓurūand see
كَيْفَ
kayfahow
كَانَ
kānawas
عَـٰقِبَةُ
ʿāqibatu(the) end
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna(of) those
مِن
minbefore them
قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ
qablihimbefore them
دَمَّرَ
dammaraAllah destroyed
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah destroyed
عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ
ʿalayhim[over] them
وَلِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
walil'kāfirīnaand for the disbelievers
أَمْثَـٰلُهَا
amthāluhāits likeness
١٠
(10)
Have they not traveled through the land and seen how was the end of those before them? Allāh destroyed [everything] over them, and for the disbelievers is something comparable.

ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
بِأَنَّ
bi-anna(is) because
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
مَوْلَى
mawlā(is the) Protector
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna(of) those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieve
وَأَنَّ
wa-annaand that
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
l-kāfirīnathe disbelievers
لَا
(there is) no
مَوْلَىٰ
mawlāprotector
لَهُمْ
lahumfor them
١١
(11)
That is because Allāh is the protector of those who have believed and because the disbelievers have no protector.

إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
يُدْخِلُ
yud'khiluwill admit
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
جَنَّـٰتٍۢ
jannātin(to) Gardens
تَجْرِى
tajrīflow
مِن
minfrom
تَحْتِهَا
taḥtihāunderneath it
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖ
l-anhāruthe rivers
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnabut those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
يَتَمَتَّعُونَ
yatamattaʿūnathey enjoy
وَيَأْكُلُونَ
wayakulūnaand eat
كَمَا
kamāas
تَأْكُلُ
takulueat
ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمُ
l-anʿāmuthe cattle
وَٱلنَّارُ
wal-nāruand the Fire
مَثْوًۭى
mathwan(will be) an abode
لَّهُمْ
lahumfor them
١٢
(12)
Indeed, Allāh will admit those who have believed and done righteous deeds to gardens beneath which rivers flow, but those who disbelieve enjoy themselves and eat as grazing livestock eat, and the Fire will be a residence for them.

وَكَأَيِّن
waka-ayyinAnd how many
مِّن
minof
قَرْيَةٍ
qaryatina town
هِىَ
hiyawhich
أَشَدُّ
ashaddu(was) stronger
قُوَّةًۭ
quwwatan(in) strength
مِّن
minthan
قَرْيَتِكَ
qaryatikayour town
ٱلَّتِىٓ
allatīwhich
أَخْرَجَتْكَ
akhrajatkahas driven you out
أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ
ahlaknāhumWe destroyed them
فَلَا
falāso no
نَاصِرَ
nāṣirahelper
لَهُمْ
lahumfor them
١٣
(13)
And how many a city was stronger than your city [i.e., Makkah] which drove you out? We destroyed them; and there was no helper for them.

أَفَمَن
afamanThen is (he) who
كَانَ
kānais
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāon
بَيِّنَةٍۢ
bayyinatina clear proof
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّهِۦ
rabbihihis Lord
كَمَن
kamanlike (he) who
زُيِّنَ
zuyyinais made attractive
لَهُۥ
lahuto him
سُوٓءُ
sūu(the) evil
عَمَلِهِۦ
ʿamalihi(of) his deeds
وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟
wa-ittabaʿūwhile they follow
أَهْوَآءَهُم
ahwāahumtheir desires
١٤
(14)
So is he who is on clear evidence from his Lord like him to whom the evil of his work has been made attractive and they follow their [own] desires?

مَّثَلُ
mathaluA parable
ٱلْجَنَّةِ
l-janati(of) Paradise
ٱلَّتِى
allatīwhich
وُعِدَ
wuʿidais promised
ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ ۖ
l-mutaqūna(to) the righteous
فِيهَآ
fīhāTherein
أَنْهَـٰرٌۭ
anhārun(are) rivers
مِّن
minof
مَّآءٍ
māinwater
غَيْرِ
ghayrinot
ءَاسِنٍۢ
āsininpolluted
وَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭ
wa-anhārunand rivers
مِّن
minof
لَّبَنٍۢ
labaninmilk
لَّمْ
lamnot
يَتَغَيَّرْ
yataghayyarchanges
طَعْمُهُۥ
ṭaʿmuhuits taste
وَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭ
wa-anhārunand rivers
مِّنْ
minof
خَمْرٍۢ
khamrinwine
لَّذَّةٍۢ
ladhatindelicious
لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ
lilshāribīnafor (the) drinkers
وَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭ
wa-anhārunand rivers
مِّنْ
minof
عَسَلٍۢ
ʿasalinhoney
مُّصَفًّۭى ۖ
muṣaffanpurified
وَلَهُمْ
walahumand for them
فِيهَا
fīhātherein
مِن
minof
كُلِّ
kulliall
ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ
l-thamarātifruits
وَمَغْفِرَةٌۭ
wamaghfiratunand forgiveness
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ
rabbihimtheir Lord
كَمَنْ
kamanlike he who
هُوَ
huwalike he who
خَـٰلِدٌۭ
khālidun(will) abide forever
فِى
in
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nārithe Fire
وَسُقُوا۟
wasuqūand they will be given to drink
مَآءً
māanwater
حَمِيمًۭا
ḥamīmanboiling
فَقَطَّعَ
faqaṭṭaʿaso it cuts into pieces
أَمْعَآءَهُمْ
amʿāahumtheir intestines
١٥
(15)
Is the description of Paradise, which the righteous are promised, wherein are rivers of water unaltered, rivers of milk the taste of which never changes, rivers of wine delicious to those who drink, and rivers of purified honey, in which they will have from all [kinds of] fruits and forgiveness from their Lord... [Are its inhabitants] like those who abide eternally in the Fire and are given to drink scalding water that will sever their intestines?

وَمِنْهُم
wamin'humAnd among them
مَّن
man(are some) who
يَسْتَمِعُ
yastamiʿulisten
إِلَيْكَ
ilaykato you
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattāuntil
إِذَا
idhāwhen
خَرَجُوا۟
kharajūthey depart
مِنْ
minfrom
عِندِكَ
ʿindikayou
قَالُوا۟
qālūthey say
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhīnato those who
أُوتُوا۟
ūtūwere given
ٱلْعِلْمَ
l-ʿil'mathe knowledge
مَاذَا
mādhāWhat
قَالَ
qāla(has) he said
ءَانِفًا ۚ
ānifanjust now
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāikaThose
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna(are) the ones
طَبَعَ
ṭabaʿaAllah has set a seal
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah has set a seal
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāupon
قُلُوبِهِمْ
qulūbihimtheir hearts
وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟
wa-ittabaʿūand they follow
أَهْوَآءَهُمْ
ahwāahumtheir desires
١٦
(16)
And among them, [O Muḥammad], are those who listen to you, until when they depart from you, they say to those who were given knowledge, "What has he said just now?" Those are the ones of whom Allāh has sealed over their hearts and who have followed their [own] desires.

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaAnd those who
ٱهْتَدَوْا۟
ih'tadawaccept guidance
زَادَهُمْ
zādahumHe increases them
هُدًۭى
hudan(in) guidance
وَءَاتَىٰهُمْ
waātāhumand gives them
تَقْوَىٰهُمْ
taqwāhumtheir righteousness
١٧
(17)
And those who are guided - He increases them in guidance and gives them their righteousness.

فَهَلْ
fahalThen do
يَنظُرُونَ
yanẓurūnathey wait
إِلَّا
illābut
ٱلسَّاعَةَ
l-sāʿata(for) the Hour
أَن
anthat
تَأْتِيَهُم
tatiyahumit should come to them
بَغْتَةًۭ ۖ
baghtatansuddenly
فَقَدْ
faqadBut indeed
جَآءَ
jāahave come
أَشْرَاطُهَا ۚ
ashrāṭuhāits indications
فَأَنَّىٰ
fa-annāThen how
لَهُمْ
lahumto them
إِذَا
idhāwhen
جَآءَتْهُمْ
jāathumhas come to them
ذِكْرَىٰهُمْ
dhik'rāhumtheir reminder
١٨
(18)
Then do they await except that the Hour should come upon them unexpectedly? But already there have come [some of] its indications. Then how [i.e., what good] to them, when it has come, will be their remembrance?

فَٱعْلَمْ
fa-iʿ'lamSo know
أَنَّهُۥ
annahuthat [He]
لَآ
(there is) no
إِلَـٰهَ
ilāhagod
إِلَّا
illābut
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ
wa-is'taghfirand ask forgiveness
لِذَنۢبِكَ
lidhanbikafor your sin
وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
walil'mu'minīnaand for the believing men
وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ۗ
wal-mu'minātiand the believing women
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahuAnd Allah
يَعْلَمُ
yaʿlamuknows
مُتَقَلَّبَكُمْ
mutaqallabakumyour movement
وَمَثْوَىٰكُمْ
wamathwākumand your resting places
١٩
(19)
So know, [O Muḥammad], that there is no deity except Allāh and ask forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women. And Allāh knows of your movement and your resting place.

وَيَقُولُ
wayaqūluAnd say
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieve
لَوْلَا
lawlāWhy not
نُزِّلَتْ
nuzzilathas been revealed
سُورَةٌۭ ۖ
sūratuna Surah
فَإِذَآ
fa-idhāBut when
أُنزِلَتْ
unzilatis revealed
سُورَةٌۭ
sūratuna Surah
مُّحْكَمَةٌۭ
muḥ'kamatunprecise
وَذُكِرَ
wadhukiraand is mentioned
فِيهَا
fīhāin it
ٱلْقِتَالُ ۙ
l-qitāluthe fighting
رَأَيْتَ
ra-aytayou see
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
فِى
in
قُلُوبِهِم
qulūbihimtheir hearts
مَّرَضٌۭ
maraḍun(is) a disease
يَنظُرُونَ
yanẓurūnalooking
إِلَيْكَ
ilaykaat you
نَظَرَ
naẓaraa look
ٱلْمَغْشِىِّ
l-maghshiyi(of) one fainting
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi(of) one fainting
مِنَ
minafrom
ٱلْمَوْتِ ۖ
l-mawtithe death
فَأَوْلَىٰ
fa-awlāBut more appropriate
لَهُمْ
lahumfor them
٢٠
(20)
Those who believe say, "Why has a sūrah not been sent down?" But when a precise sūrah is revealed and battle is mentioned therein, you see those in whose hearts is disease [i.e., hypocrisy] looking at you with a look of one overcome by death. And more appropriate for them [would have been]

طَاعَةٌۭ
ṭāʿatun(Is) obedience
وَقَوْلٌۭ
waqawlunand a word
مَّعْرُوفٌۭ ۚ
maʿrūfunkind
فَإِذَا
fa-idhāAnd when
عَزَمَ
ʿazama(is) determined
ٱلْأَمْرُ
l-amruthe matter
فَلَوْ
falawthen if
صَدَقُوا۟
ṣadaqūthey had been true
ٱللَّهَ
l-laha(to) Allah
لَكَانَ
lakānasurely, it would have been
خَيْرًۭا
khayranbetter
لَّهُمْ
lahumfor them
٢١
(21)
Obedience and good words. And when the matter [of fighting] was determined, if they had been true to Allāh, it would have been better for them.

فَهَلْ
fahalThen would
عَسَيْتُمْ
ʿasaytumyou perhaps
إِن
inif
تَوَلَّيْتُمْ
tawallaytumyou are given authority
أَن
anthat
تُفْسِدُوا۟
tuf'sidūyou cause corruption
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
وَتُقَطِّعُوٓا۟
watuqaṭṭiʿūand cut off
أَرْحَامَكُمْ
arḥāmakumyour ties of kinship
٢٢
(22)
So would you perhaps, if you turned away, cause corruption on earth and sever your [ties of] relationship?

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāikaThose
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna(are) the ones
لَعَنَهُمُ
laʿanahumuAllah has cursed them
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah has cursed them
فَأَصَمَّهُمْ
fa-aṣammahumso He made them deaf
وَأَعْمَىٰٓ
wa-aʿmāand blinded
أَبْصَـٰرَهُمْ
abṣārahumtheir vision
٢٣
(23)
Those [who do so] are the ones that Allāh has cursed, so He deafened them and blinded their vision.

أَفَلَا
afalāThen do not
يَتَدَبَّرُونَ
yatadabbarūnathey ponder
ٱلْقُرْءَانَ
l-qur'āna(over) the Quran
أَمْ
amor
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāupon
قُلُوبٍ
qulūbin(their) hearts
أَقْفَالُهَآ
aqfāluhā(are) locks
٢٤
(24)
Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’ān, or are there locks upon [their] hearts?

إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
ٱرْتَدُّوا۟
ir'taddūreturn
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalāon
أَدْبَـٰرِهِم
adbārihimtheir backs
مِّنۢ
minafter
بَعْدِ
baʿdiafter
مَا
what
تَبَيَّنَ
tabayyana(has) become clear
لَهُمُ
lahumuto them
ٱلْهُدَى ۙ
l-hudā(of) the guidance
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ
l-shayṭānuShaitaan
سَوَّلَ
sawwalaenticed
لَهُمْ
lahum[for] them
وَأَمْلَىٰ
wa-amlāand prolonged hope
لَهُمْ
lahumfor them
٢٥
(25)
Indeed, those who reverted back [to disbelief] after guidance had become clear to them - Satan enticed them and prolonged hope for them.

ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
بِأَنَّهُمْ
bi-annahum(is) because they
قَالُوا۟
qālū[they] said
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhīnato those who
كَرِهُوا۟
karihūhate
مَا
what
نَزَّلَ
nazzalaAllah has revealed
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah has revealed
سَنُطِيعُكُمْ
sanuṭīʿukumWe will obey you
فِى
in
بَعْضِ
baʿḍipart
ٱلْأَمْرِ ۖ
l-amri(of) the matter
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahuBut Allah
يَعْلَمُ
yaʿlamuknows
إِسْرَارَهُمْ
is'rārahumtheir secrets
٢٦
(26)
That is because they said to those who disliked what Allāh sent down, "We will obey you in part of the matter." And Allāh knows what they conceal.

فَكَيْفَ
fakayfaThen how
إِذَا
idhāwhen
تَوَفَّتْهُمُ
tawaffathumutake them in death
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ
l-malāikatuthe Angels
يَضْرِبُونَ
yaḍribūnastriking
وُجُوهَهُمْ
wujūhahumtheir faces
وَأَدْبَـٰرَهُمْ
wa-adbārahumand their backs
٢٧
(27)
Then how [will it be] when the angels take them in death, striking their faces and their backs?

ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
بِأَنَّهُمُ
bi-annahumu(is) because they
ٱتَّبَعُوا۟
ittabaʿūfollowed
مَآ
what
أَسْخَطَ
askhaṭaangered
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
وَكَرِهُوا۟
wakarihūand hated
رِضْوَٰنَهُۥ
riḍ'wānahuHis pleasure
فَأَحْبَطَ
fa-aḥbaṭaso He made worthless
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
aʿmālahumtheir deeds
٢٨
(28)
That is because they followed what angered Allāh and disliked [what earns] His pleasure, so He rendered worthless their deeds.

أَمْ
amOr do
حَسِبَ
ḥasibathink
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
فِى
in
قُلُوبِهِم
qulūbihimtheir hearts
مَّرَضٌ
maraḍun(is) a disease
أَن
anthat
لَّن
lannever
يُخْرِجَ
yukh'rijawill Allah bring forth
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuwill Allah bring forth
أَضْغَـٰنَهُمْ
aḍghānahumtheir hatred
٢٩
(29)
Or do those in whose hearts is disease think that Allāh would never expose their [feelings of] hatred?

وَلَوْ
walawAnd if
نَشَآءُ
nashāuWe willed
لَأَرَيْنَـٰكَهُمْ
la-araynākahumsurely, We could show them to you
فَلَعَرَفْتَهُم
falaʿaraftahumand you would know them
بِسِيمَـٰهُمْ ۚ
bisīmāhumby their marks
وَلَتَعْرِفَنَّهُمْ
walataʿrifannahumbut surely, you will know them
فِى
by
لَحْنِ
laḥni(the) tone
ٱلْقَوْلِ ۚ
l-qawli(of their) speech
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahuAnd Allah
يَعْلَمُ
yaʿlamuknows
أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْ
aʿmālakumyour deeds
٣٠
(30)
And if We willed, We could show them to you, and you would know them by their mark; but you will surely know them by the tone of [their] speech. And Allāh knows your deeds.

وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُمْ
walanabluwannakumAnd surely We will test you
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattāuntil
نَعْلَمَ
naʿlamaWe make evident
ٱلْمُجَـٰهِدِينَ
l-mujāhidīnathose who strive
مِنكُمْ
minkumamong you
وَٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ
wal-ṣābirīnaand the patient ones
وَنَبْلُوَا۟
wanabluwāand We will test
أَخْبَارَكُمْ
akhbārakumyour affairs
٣١
(31)
And We will surely test you until We make evident those who strive among you [for the cause of Allāh] and the patient, and We will test your affairs.

إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
وَصَدُّوا۟
waṣaddūand turn away
عَن
ʿanfrom
سَبِيلِ
sabīli(the) way of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(the) way of Allah
وَشَآقُّوا۟
washāqqūand oppose
ٱلرَّسُولَ
l-rasūlathe Messenger
مِنۢ
minafter
بَعْدِ
baʿdiafter
مَا
[what]
تَبَيَّنَ
tabayyana(has been) made clear
لَهُمُ
lahumuto them
ٱلْهُدَىٰ
l-hudāthe guidance
لَن
lannever
يَضُرُّوا۟
yaḍurrūwill they harm
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
شَيْـًۭٔا
shayan(in) anything
وَسَيُحْبِطُ
wasayuḥ'biṭuand He will make worthless
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
aʿmālahumtheir deeds
٣٢
(32)
Indeed, those who disbelieved and averted [people] from the path of Allāh and opposed the Messenger after guidance had become clear to them - never will they harm Allāh at all, and He will render worthless their deeds.

۞ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who(believe)
ءَامَنُوٓا۟
āmanūbelieve
أَطِيعُوا۟
aṭīʿūObey
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
وَأَطِيعُوا۟
wa-aṭīʿūand obey
ٱلرَّسُولَ
l-rasūlathe Messenger
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تُبْطِلُوٓا۟
tub'ṭilūmake vain
أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْ
aʿmālakumyour deeds
٣٣
(33)
O you who have believed, obey Allāh and obey the Messenger and do not invalidate your deeds.

إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
وَصَدُّوا۟
waṣaddūand turn away
عَن
ʿanfrom
سَبِيلِ
sabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
ثُمَّ
thummathen
مَاتُوا۟
mātūdied
وَهُمْ
wahumwhile they
كُفَّارٌۭ
kuffārun(were) disbelievers
فَلَن
falannever
يَغْفِرَ
yaghfirawill Allah forgive
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuwill Allah forgive
لَهُمْ
lahumthem
٣٤
(34)
Indeed, those who disbelieved and averted [people] from the path of Allāh and then died while they were disbelievers - never will Allāh forgive them.

فَلَا
falāSo (do) not
تَهِنُوا۟
tahinūweaken
وَتَدْعُوٓا۟
watadʿūand call
إِلَى
ilāfor
ٱلسَّلْمِ
l-salmipeace
وَأَنتُمُ
wa-antumuwhile you
ٱلْأَعْلَوْنَ
l-aʿlawna(are) superior
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahuand Allah
مَعَكُمْ
maʿakum(is) with you
وَلَن
walanand never
يَتِرَكُمْ
yatirakumwill deprive you
أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْ
aʿmālakum(of) your deeds
٣٥
(35)
So do not weaken and call for peace while you are superior; and Allāh is with you and will never deprive you of [the reward of] your deeds.

إِنَّمَا
innamāOnly
ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ
l-ḥayatuthe life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā(of) the world
لَعِبٌۭ
laʿibun(is) play
وَلَهْوٌۭ ۚ
walahwunand amusement
وَإِن
wa-inAnd if
تُؤْمِنُوا۟
tu'minūyou believe
وَتَتَّقُوا۟
watattaqūand fear (Allah)
يُؤْتِكُمْ
yu'tikumHe will give you
أُجُورَكُمْ
ujūrakumyour rewards
وَلَا
walāand not
يَسْـَٔلْكُمْ
yasalkumwill ask you
أَمْوَٰلَكُمْ
amwālakum(for) your wealth
٣٦
(36)
[This] worldly life is only amusement and diversion. And if you believe and fear Allāh, He will give you your rewards and not ask you for your properties.

إِن
inIf
يَسْـَٔلْكُمُوهَا
yasalkumūhāHe were to ask you for it
فَيُحْفِكُمْ
fayuḥ'fikumand press you
تَبْخَلُوا۟
tabkhalūyou will withhold
وَيُخْرِجْ
wayukh'rijand He will bring forth
أَضْغَـٰنَكُمْ
aḍghānakumyour hatred
٣٧
(37)
If He should ask you for them and press you, you would withhold, and He would expose your hatred [i.e., unwillingness].

هَـٰٓأَنتُمْ
hāantumHere you are
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ
hāulāithese
تُدْعَوْنَ
tud'ʿawnacalled
لِتُنفِقُوا۟
litunfiqūto spend
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
sabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
فَمِنكُم
faminkumbut among you
مَّن
man(are some) who
يَبْخَلُ ۖ
yabkhaluwithhold
وَمَن
wamanand whoever
يَبْخَلْ
yabkhalwithholds
فَإِنَّمَا
fa-innamāthen only
يَبْخَلُ
yabkhaluhe withholds
عَن
ʿanfrom
نَّفْسِهِۦ ۚ
nafsihihimself
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahuBut Allah
ٱلْغَنِىُّ
l-ghaniyu(is) Free of need
وَأَنتُمُ
wa-antumuwhile you
ٱلْفُقَرَآءُ ۚ
l-fuqarāu(are) the needy
وَإِن
wa-inAnd if
تَتَوَلَّوْا۟
tatawallawyou turn away
يَسْتَبْدِلْ
yastabdilHe will replace you
قَوْمًا
qawman(with) a people
غَيْرَكُمْ
ghayrakumother than you
ثُمَّ
thummathen
لَا
not
يَكُونُوٓا۟
yakūnūthey will be
أَمْثَـٰلَكُم
amthālakum(the) likes of you
٣٨
(38)
Here you are - those invited to spend in the cause of Allāh - but among you are those who withhold [out of greed]. And whoever withholds only withholds [benefit] from himself; and Allāh is the Free of need, while you are the needy. And if you turn away [i.e., refuse], He will replace you with another people; then they will not be the likes of you.
