وَٱلنَّجْمِwal-najmiBy the star
إِذَاidhāwhen
هَوَىٰhawāit goes down
١(1)
By the star when it descends,
Juz 27Page 526
مَاmāNot
ضَلَّḍallahas strayed
صَاحِبُكُمْṣāḥibukumyour companion
وَمَاwamāand not
غَوَىٰghawāhas he erred
٢(2)
Your companion [i.e., Muḥammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred,

وَمَاwamāAnd not
يَنطِقُyanṭiquhe speaks
عَنِʿanifrom
ٱلْهَوَىٰٓl-hawāthe desire
٣(3)
Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination.

إِنْinNot
هُوَhuwait
إِلَّاillā(is) except
وَحْىٌۭwaḥyuna revelation
يُوحَىٰyūḥārevealed
٤(4)
It is not but a revelation revealed,

عَلَّمَهُۥʿallamahuHas taught him
شَدِيدُshadīduthe (one) mighty
ٱلْقُوَىٰl-quwā(in) power
٥(5)
Taught to him by one intense in strength [i.e., Gabriel] -

ذُوdhūPossessor of soundness
مِرَّةٍۢmirratinPossessor of soundness
فَٱسْتَوَىٰfa-is'tawāAnd he rose
٦(6)
One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form
Juz 27Page 526
وَهُوَwahuwaWhile he
بِٱلْأُفُقِbil-ufuqi(was) in the horizon
ٱلْأَعْلَىٰl-aʿlāthe highest
٧(7)
While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon.

ثُمَّthummaThen
دَنَاdanāhe approached
فَتَدَلَّىٰfatadallāand came down
٨(8)
Then he approached and descended
Juz 27Page 526
فَكَانَfakānaAnd was
قَابَqāba(at) a distance
قَوْسَيْنِqawsayni(of) two bow-(lengths)
أَوْawor
أَدْنَىٰadnānearer
٩(9)
And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer.

فَأَوْحَىٰٓfa-awḥāSo he revealed
إِلَىٰilāto
عَبْدِهِۦʿabdihiHis slave
مَآmāwhat
أَوْحَىٰawḥāhe revealed
١٠(10)
And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed [i.e., conveyed].

مَاmāNot
كَذَبَkadhabalied
ٱلْفُؤَادُl-fuāduthe heart
مَاmāwhat
رَأَىٰٓraāit saw
١١(11)
The heart did not lie [about] what it saw.

أَفَتُمَـٰرُونَهُۥafatumārūnahuThen will you dispute with him
عَلَىٰʿalāabout
مَاmāwhat
يَرَىٰyarāhe saw
١٢(12)
So will you dispute with him over what he saw?

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainly
رَءَاهُraāhuhe saw him
نَزْلَةًnazlatan(in) descent
أُخْرَىٰukh'rāanother
١٣(13)
And he certainly saw him in another descent

عِندَʿindaNear
سِدْرَةِsid'rati(the) Lote Tree
ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰl-muntahā(of) the utmost boundary
١٤(14)
At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary -
Juz 27Page 526
عِندَهَاʿindahāNear it
جَنَّةُjannatu(is the) Garden
ٱلْمَأْوَىٰٓl-mawā(of) Abode
١٥(15)
Near it is the Garden of Refuge [i.e., Paradise] -

إِذْidhWhen
يَغْشَىyaghshācovered
ٱلسِّدْرَةَl-sid'ratathe Lote Tree
مَاmāwhat
يَغْشَىٰyaghshācovers
١٦(16)
When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it].

مَاmāNot
زَاغَzāghaswerved
ٱلْبَصَرُl-baṣaruthe sight
وَمَاwamāand not
طَغَىٰṭaghāit transgressed
١٧(17)
The sight [of the Prophet (ﷺ)] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit].

لَقَدْlaqadCertainly
رَأَىٰraāhe saw
مِنْminof
ءَايَـٰتِāyāti(the) Signs
رَبِّهِrabbihi(of) his Lord
ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓl-kub'rāthe Greatest
١٨(18)
He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord.

أَفَرَءَيْتُمُafara-aytumuSo have you seen
ٱللَّـٰتَl-lātathe Lat
وَٱلْعُزَّىٰwal-ʿuzāand the Uzza
١٩(19)
So have you considered al-Lāt and al-ʿUzzā?

وَمَنَوٰةَwamanataAnd Manat
ٱلثَّالِثَةَl-thālithatathe third
ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓl-ukh'rāthe other
٢٠(20)
And Manāt, the third - the other one?

أَلَكُمُalakumuIs for you
ٱلذَّكَرُl-dhakaruthe male
وَلَهُwalahuand for Him
ٱلْأُنثَىٰl-unthāthe female
٢١(21)
Is the male for you and for Him the female?
Juz 27Page 526
تِلْكَtil'kaThis
إِذًۭاidhanthen
قِسْمَةٌۭqis'matun(is) a division
ضِيزَىٰٓḍīzāunfair
٢٢(22)
That, then, is an unjust division.
Juz 27Page 526
إِنْinNot
هِىَhiyathey
إِلَّآillā(are) except
أَسْمَآءٌۭasmāonnames
سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآsammaytumūhāyou have named them
أَنتُمْantumyou
وَءَابَآؤُكُمwaābāukumand your forefathers
مَّآmānot
أَنزَلَanzalahas Allah sent down
ٱللَّهُl-lahuhas Allah sent down
بِهَاbihāfor it
مِنminany
سُلْطَـٰنٍ ۚsul'ṭāninauthority
إِنinNot
يَتَّبِعُونَyattabiʿūnathey follow
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱلظَّنَّl-ẓanaassumption
وَمَاwamāand what
تَهْوَىtahwādesire
ٱلْأَنفُسُ ۖl-anfusuthe(ir) souls
وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainly
جَآءَهُمjāahumhas come to them
مِّنminfrom
رَّبِّهِمُrabbihimutheir Lord
ٱلْهُدَىٰٓl-hudāthe guidance
٢٣(23)
They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allāh has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance.

أَمْamOr
لِلْإِنسَـٰنِlil'insāni(is) for man
مَاmāwhat
تَمَنَّىٰtamannāhe wishes
٢٤(24)
Or is there for man whatever he wishes?

فَلِلَّهِfalillahiBut for Allah
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُl-ākhiratu(is) the last
وَٱلْأُولَىٰwal-ūlāand the first
٢٥(25)
Rather, to Allāh belongs the Hereafter and the first [life].

۞ وَكَمwakamAnd how many
مِّنminof
مَّلَكٍۢmalakin(the) Angels
فِىfīin
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
لَاlānot
تُغْنِىtugh'nīwill avail
شَفَـٰعَتُهُمْshafāʿatuhumtheir intercession
شَيْـًٔاshayananything
إِلَّاillāexcept
مِنۢminafter
بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
أَنan[that]
يَأْذَنَyadhanaAllah has given permission
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah has given permission
لِمَنlimanfor whom
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
وَيَرْضَىٰٓwayarḍāand approves
٢٦(26)
And how many angels there are in the heavens whose intercession will not avail at all except [only] after Allāh has permitted [it] to whom He wills and approves.

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
لَاlā(do) not
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnabelieve
بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِbil-ākhiratiin the Hereafter
لَيُسَمُّونَlayusammūnasurely they name
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَl-malāikatathe Angels
تَسْمِيَةَtasmiyataname(s)
ٱلْأُنثَىٰl-unthā(of) female
٢٧(27)
Indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter name the angels female names,

وَمَاwamāAnd not
لَهُمlahumfor them
بِهِۦbihiabout it
مِنْminany
عِلْمٍ ۖʿil'minknowledge
إِنinNot
يَتَّبِعُونَyattabiʿūnathey follow
إِلَّاillābut
ٱلظَّنَّ ۖl-ẓanaassumption
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
ٱلظَّنَّl-ẓanathe assumption
لَاlā(does) not
يُغْنِىyugh'nīavail
مِنَminaagainst
ٱلْحَقِّl-ḥaqithe truth
شَيْـًۭٔاshayananything
٢٨(28)
And they have thereof no knowledge. They follow not except assumption, and indeed, assumption avails not against the truth at all.

فَأَعْرِضْfa-aʿriḍSo turn away
عَنʿanfrom
مَّنman(him) who
تَوَلَّىٰtawallāturns away
عَنʿanfrom
ذِكْرِنَاdhik'rināOur Reminder
وَلَمْwalamand not
يُرِدْyuridhe desires
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱلْحَيَوٰةَl-ḥayatathe life
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the world
٢٩(29)
So turn away from whoever turns his back on Our message and desires not except the worldly life.
Juz 27Page 527
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
مَبْلَغُهُمmablaghuhum(is) their sum
مِّنَminaof
ٱلْعِلْمِ ۚl-ʿil'miknowledge
إِنَّinnaIndeed
رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lord
هُوَhuwa(is) He (Who)
أَعْلَمُaʿlamuknows best
بِمَنbiman(he) who
ضَلَّḍallastrays
عَنʿanfrom
سَبِيلِهِۦsabīlihiHis Path
وَهُوَwahuwaand He
أَعْلَمُaʿlamuknows best
بِمَنِbimani(he) who
ٱهْتَدَىٰih'tadāis guided
٣٠(30)
That is their sum of knowledge. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who strays from His way, and He is most knowing of who is guided.

وَلِلَّهِwalillahiAnd for Allah
مَاmā(is) whatever
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَمَاwamāand whatever
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
لِيَجْزِىَliyajziyathat He may recompense
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
أَسَـٰٓـُٔوا۟asāūdo evil
بِمَاbimāwith what
عَمِلُوا۟ʿamilūthey have done
وَيَجْزِىَwayajziyaand recompense
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
أَحْسَنُوا۟aḥsanūdo good
بِٱلْحُسْنَىbil-ḥus'nāwith the best
٣١(31)
And to Allāh belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth - that He may recompense those who do evil with [the penalty of] what they have done and recompense those who do good with the best [reward] -
Juz 27Page 527
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose who
يَجْتَنِبُونَyajtanibūnaavoid
كَبَـٰٓئِرَkabāiragreat
ٱلْإِثْمِl-ith'misins
وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَwal-fawāḥishaand the immoralities
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱللَّمَمَ ۚl-lamamathe small faults
إِنَّinnaindeed
رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lord
وَٰسِعُwāsiʿu(is) vast
ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚl-maghfirati(in) forgiveness
هُوَhuwaHe
أَعْلَمُaʿlamu(is) most knowing about you
بِكُمْbikum(is) most knowing about you
إِذْidhwhen
أَنشَأَكُمansha-akumHe produced you
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
وَإِذْwa-idhand when
أَنتُمْantumyou (were)
أَجِنَّةٌۭajinnatunfetuses
فِىfīin
بُطُونِbuṭūni(the) wombs
أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ ۖummahātikum(of) your mothers
فَلَاfalāSo (do) not
تُزَكُّوٓا۟tuzakkūascribe purity
أَنفُسَكُمْ ۖanfusakum(to) yourselves
هُوَhuwaHe
أَعْلَمُaʿlamuknows best
بِمَنِbimani(he) who
ٱتَّقَىٰٓittaqāfears
٣٢(32)
Those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, only [committing] slight ones. Indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He was most knowing of you when He produced you from the earth and when you were fetuses in the wombs of your mothers. So do not claim yourselves to be pure; He is most knowing of who fears Him.

أَفَرَءَيْتَafara-aytaDid you see
ٱلَّذِىalladhīthe one who
تَوَلَّىٰtawallāturned away
٣٣(33)
Have you seen the one who turned away
Juz 27Page 527
وَأَعْطَىٰwa-aʿṭāAnd gave
قَلِيلًۭاqalīlana little
وَأَكْدَىٰٓwa-akdāand withheld
٣٤(34)
And gave a little and [then] refrained?
Juz 27Page 527
أَعِندَهُۥaʿindahuIs with him
عِلْمُʿil'mu(the) knowledge
ٱلْغَيْبِl-ghaybi(of) the unseen
فَهُوَfahuwaso he
يَرَىٰٓyarāsees
٣٥(35)
Does he have knowledge of the unseen, so he sees?
Juz 27Page 527
أَمْamOr
لَمْlamnot
يُنَبَّأْyunabbahe was informed
بِمَاbimāwith what
فِىfī(was) in
صُحُفِṣuḥufi(the) Scriptures
مُوسَىٰmūsā(of) Musa
٣٦(36)
Or has he not been informed of what was in the scriptures of Moses
Juz 27Page 527
وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَwa-ib'rāhīmaAnd Ibrahim
ٱلَّذِىalladhīwho
وَفَّىٰٓwaffāfulfilled
٣٧(37)
And [of] Abraham, who fulfilled [his obligations] -
Juz 27Page 527
أَلَّاallāThat not
تَزِرُtaziruwill bear
وَازِرَةٌۭwāziratuna bearer of burdens
وِزْرَwiz'ra(the) burden
أُخْرَىٰukh'rā(of) another
٣٨(38)
That no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another
Juz 27Page 527
وَأَنwa-anAnd that
لَّيْسَlaysais not
لِلْإِنسَـٰنِlil'insānifor man
إِلَّاillāexcept
مَاmāwhat
سَعَىٰsaʿāhe strives (for)
٣٩(39)
And that there is not for man except that [good] for which he strives
Juz 27Page 527
وَأَنَّwa-annaAnd that
سَعْيَهُۥsaʿyahuhis striving
سَوْفَsawfawill soon
يُرَىٰyurābe seen
٤٠(40)
And that his effort is going to be seen -
Juz 27Page 527
ثُمَّthummaThen
يُجْزَىٰهُyuj'zāhuhe will be recompensed for it
ٱلْجَزَآءَl-jazāathe recompense
ٱلْأَوْفَىٰl-awfāthe fullest
٤١(41)
Then he will be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense -
Juz 27Page 527
وَأَنَّwa-annaAnd that
إِلَىٰilāto
رَبِّكَrabbikayour Lord
ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰl-muntahā(is) the final goal
٤٢(42)
And that to your Lord is the finality
Juz 27Page 527
وَأَنَّهُۥwa-annahuAnd that He
هُوَhuwa[He]
أَضْحَكَaḍḥakamakes (one) laugh
وَأَبْكَىٰwa-abkāand makes (one) weep
٤٣(43)
And that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep

وَأَنَّهُۥwa-annahuAnd that He
هُوَhuwa[He]
أَمَاتَamātacauses death
وَأَحْيَاwa-aḥyāand gives life
٤٤(44)
And that it is He who causes death and gives life
Juz 27Page 527
وَأَنَّهُۥwa-annahuAnd that He
خَلَقَkhalaqacreated
ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِl-zawjaynithe pairs
ٱلذَّكَرَl-dhakarathe male
وَٱلْأُنثَىٰwal-unthāand the female
٤٥(45)
And that He creates the two mates - the male and female -

مِنminFrom
نُّطْفَةٍnuṭ'fatina semen-drop
إِذَاidhāwhen
تُمْنَىٰtum'nāit is emitted
٤٦(46)
From a sperm-drop when it is emitted
Juz 27Page 528
وَأَنَّwa-annaAnd that
عَلَيْهِʿalayhiupon Him
ٱلنَّشْأَةَl-nashata(is) the bringing forth
ٱلْأُخْرَىٰl-ukh'rāanother
٤٧(47)
And that [incumbent] upon Him is the other [i.e., next] creation.

وَأَنَّهُۥwa-annahuAnd that He
هُوَhuwa[He]
أَغْنَىٰaghnāenriches
وَأَقْنَىٰwa-aqnāand suffices
٤٨(48)
And that it is He who enriches and suffices
Juz 27Page 528
وَأَنَّهُۥwa-annahuAnd that He
هُوَhuwa[He]
رَبُّrabbu(is the) Lord
ٱلشِّعْرَىٰl-shiʿ'rā(of) Sirius
٤٩(49)
And that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius
Juz 27Page 528
وَأَنَّهُۥٓwa-annahuAnd that He
أَهْلَكَahlakadestroyed
عَادًاʿādanAad
ٱلْأُولَىٰl-ūlāthe first
٥٠(50)
And that He destroyed the first [people of] ʿAad
Juz 27Page 528
وَثَمُودَا۟wathamūdāAnd Thamud
فَمَآfamāso not
أَبْقَىٰabqāHe spared
٥١(51)
And Thamūd - and He did not spare [them] -
Juz 27Page 528
وَقَوْمَwaqawmaAnd (the) people
نُوحٍۢnūḥin(of) Nuh
مِّنminbefore
قَبْلُ ۖqablubefore
إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, they
كَانُوا۟kānūthey were
هُمْhumthey were
أَظْلَمَaẓlamamore unjust
وَأَطْغَىٰwa-aṭghāand more rebellious
٥٢(52)
And the people of Noah before. Indeed, it was they who were [even] more unjust and oppressing.

وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَةَwal-mu'tafikataAnd the overturned cities
أَهْوَىٰahwāHe overthrew
٥٣(53)
And the overturned towns He hurled down
Juz 27Page 528
فَغَشَّىٰهَاfaghashāhāSo covered them
مَاmāwhat
غَشَّىٰghashācovered
٥٤(54)
And covered them by that which He covered.
Juz 27Page 528
فَبِأَىِّfabi-ayyiThen which (of)
ءَالَآءِālāithe Favors
رَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lord
تَتَمَارَىٰtatamārāwill you doubt
٥٥(55)
Then which of the favors of your Lord do you doubt?
Juz 27Page 528
هَـٰذَاhādhāThis
نَذِيرٌۭnadhīrun(is) a warner
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلنُّذُرِl-nudhurithe warners
ٱلْأُولَىٰٓl-ūlāthe former
٥٦(56)
This [Prophet (ﷺ)] is a warner from [i.e., like] the former warners.

أَزِفَتِazifatiHas approached
ٱلْـَٔازِفَةُl-āzifatuthe Approaching Day
٥٧(57)
The Approaching Day has approached.
Juz 27Page 528
لَيْسَlaysaNot is
لَهَاlahāfor it
مِنminbesides
دُونِdūnibesides
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
كَاشِفَةٌkāshifatunany remover
٥٨(58)
Of it, [from those] besides Allāh, there is no remover.

أَفَمِنْafaminThen of
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
ٱلْحَدِيثِl-ḥadīthistatement
تَعْجَبُونَtaʿjabūnayou wonder
٥٩(59)
Then at this statement do you wonder?

وَتَضْحَكُونَwataḍḥakūnaAnd you laugh
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تَبْكُونَtabkūnaweep
٦٠(60)
And you laugh and do not weep
Juz 27Page 528
وَأَنتُمْwa-antumWhile you
سَـٰمِدُونَsāmidūnaamuse (yourselves)
٦١(61)
While you are proudly sporting?
Juz 27Page 528
فَٱسْجُدُوا۟fa-us'judūSo prostrate
لِلَّهِlillahito Allah
وَٱعْبُدُوا۟ ۩wa-uʿ'budūand worship (Him)
٦٢(62)
So prostrate to Allāh and worship [Him].
