يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO
ٱلنَّبِىُّl-nabiyuProphet
لِمَlimaWhy (do)
تُحَرِّمُtuḥarrimuyou prohibit
مَآmāwhat
أَحَلَّaḥallahas made lawful
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
لَكَ ۖlakafor you
تَبْتَغِىtabtaghīseeking
مَرْضَاتَmarḍāta(to) please
أَزْوَٰجِكَ ۚazwājikayour wives
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
غَفُورٌۭghafūrun(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭraḥīmunMost Merciful
١(1)
O Prophet, why do you prohibit [yourself from] what Allāh has made lawful for you, seeking the approval of your wives? And Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.

قَدْqadIndeed
فَرَضَfaraḍahas ordained
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
لَكُمْlakumfor you
تَحِلَّةَtaḥillata(the) dissolution
أَيْمَـٰنِكُمْ ۚaymānikum(of) your oaths
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
مَوْلَىٰكُمْ ۖmawlākum(is) your Protector
وَهُوَwahuwaand He
ٱلْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmu(is) the All-Knower
ٱلْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuthe All-Wise
٢(2)
Allāh has already ordained for you [Muslims] the dissolution of your oaths. And Allāh is your protector, and He is the Knowing, the Wise.

وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when
أَسَرَّasarraconfided
ٱلنَّبِىُّl-nabiyuthe Prophet
إِلَىٰilāto
بَعْضِbaʿḍione
أَزْوَٰجِهِۦazwājihi(of) his wives
حَدِيثًۭاḥadīthana statement
فَلَمَّاfalammāand when
نَبَّأَتْnabba-atshe informed
بِهِۦbihiabout it
وَأَظْهَرَهُwa-aẓharahuand made it apparent
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
عَلَيْهِʿalayhito him
عَرَّفَʿarrafahe made known
بَعْضَهُۥbaʿḍahua part of it
وَأَعْرَضَwa-aʿraḍaand avoided
عَنۢʿan[of]
بَعْضٍۢ ۖbaʿḍina part
فَلَمَّاfalammāThen when
نَبَّأَهَاnabba-ahāhe informed her
بِهِۦbihiabout it
قَالَتْqālatshe said
مَنْmanWho
أَنۢبَأَكَanba-akainformed you
هَـٰذَا ۖhādhāthis
قَالَqālaHe said
نَبَّأَنِىَnabba-aniyaHas informed me
ٱلْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmuthe All-Knower
ٱلْخَبِيرُl-khabīruthe All-Aware
٣(3)
And [remember] when the Prophet confided to one of his wives a statement; and when she informed [another] of it and Allāh showed it to him, he made known part of it and ignored a part. And when he informed her about it, she said, "Who told you this?" He said, "I was informed by the Knowing, the Aware."

إِنinIf
تَتُوبَآtatūbāyou both turn
إِلَىilāto
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
فَقَدْfaqadso indeed
صَغَتْṣaghat(are) inclined
قُلُوبُكُمَا ۖqulūbukumāyour hearts
وَإِنwa-inbut if
تَظَـٰهَرَاtaẓāharāyou backup each other
عَلَيْهِʿalayhiagainst him
فَإِنَّfa-innathen indeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
هُوَhuwaHe
مَوْلَىٰهُmawlāhu(is) his Protector
وَجِبْرِيلُwajib'rīluand Jibreel
وَصَـٰلِحُwaṣāliḥuand (the) righteous
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۖl-mu'minīnabelievers
وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُwal-malāikatuand the Angels
بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
ظَهِيرٌẓahīrun(are his) assistants
٤(4)
If you two [wives] repent to Allāh, [it is best], for your hearts have deviated. But if you cooperate against him - then indeed Allāh is his protector, and Gabriel and the righteous of the believers and the angels, moreover, are [his] assistants.

عَسَىٰʿasāPerhaps
رَبُّهُۥٓrabbuhuhis Lord
إِنinif
طَلَّقَكُنَّṭallaqakunnahe divorced you
أَنan[that]
يُبْدِلَهُۥٓyub'dilahuHe will substitute for him
أَزْوَٰجًاazwājanwives
خَيْرًۭاkhayranbetter
مِّنكُنَّminkunnathan you
مُسْلِمَـٰتٍۢmus'limātinsubmissive
مُّؤْمِنَـٰتٍۢmu'minātinfaithful
قَـٰنِتَـٰتٍۢqānitātinobedient
تَـٰٓئِبَـٰتٍtāibātinrepentant
عَـٰبِدَٰتٍۢʿābidātinwho worship
سَـٰٓئِحَـٰتٍۢsāiḥātinwho fast
ثَيِّبَـٰتٍۢthayyibātinpreviously married
وَأَبْكَارًۭاwa-abkāranand virgins
٥(5)
Perhaps his Lord, if he divorced you [all], would substitute for him wives better than you - submitting [to Allāh], believing, devoutly obedient, repentant, worshipping, and traveling - [ones] previously married and virgins.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who(believe)
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
قُوٓا۟qūProtect
أَنفُسَكُمْanfusakumyourselves
وَأَهْلِيكُمْwa-ahlīkumand your families
نَارًۭاnāran(from) a Fire
وَقُودُهَاwaqūduhāwhose fuel
ٱلنَّاسُl-nāsu(is) people
وَٱلْحِجَارَةُwal-ḥijāratuand stones
عَلَيْهَاʿalayhāover it
مَلَـٰٓئِكَةٌmalāikatun(are) Angels
غِلَاظٌۭghilāẓunstern
شِدَادٌۭshidādunsevere
لَّاlānot
يَعْصُونَyaʿṣūnathey disobey
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
مَآmā(in) what
أَمَرَهُمْamarahumHe Commands them
وَيَفْعَلُونَwayafʿalūnabut they do
مَاmāwhat
يُؤْمَرُونَyu'marūnathey are commanded
٦(6)
O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are [appointed] angels, harsh and severe; they do not disobey Allāh in what He commands them but do what they are commanded.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(you) who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
لَاlā(Do) not
تَعْتَذِرُوا۟taʿtadhirūmake excuses
ٱلْيَوْمَ ۖl-yawmatoday
إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
تُجْزَوْنَtuj'zawnayou will be recompensed
مَاmā(for) what
كُنتُمْkuntumyou used to
تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnado
٧(7)
O you who have disbelieved, make no excuses that Day. You will only be recompensed for what you used to do.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who(believe)
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
تُوبُوٓا۟tūbūTurn
إِلَىilāto
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
تَوْبَةًۭtawbatan(in) repentance
نَّصُوحًاnaṣūḥansincere
عَسَىٰʿasāPerhaps
رَبُّكُمْrabbukumyour Lord
أَنanwill
يُكَفِّرَyukaffiraremove
عَنكُمْʿankumfrom you
سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْsayyiātikumyour evil deeds
وَيُدْخِلَكُمْwayud'khilakumand admit you
جَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātin(into) Gardens
تَجْرِىtajrīflow
مِنminfrom
تَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath it
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُl-anhāruthe rivers
يَوْمَyawma(on the) Day
لَاlānot
يُخْزِىyukh'zīwill be disgraced
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
ٱلنَّبِىَّl-nabiyathe Prophet
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieved
مَعَهُۥ ۖmaʿahuwith him
نُورُهُمْnūruhumTheir light
يَسْعَىٰyasʿāwill run
بَيْنَbaynabefore
أَيْدِيهِمْaydīhimtheir hands
وَبِأَيْمَـٰنِهِمْwabi-aymānihimand on their right
يَقُولُونَyaqūlūnathey will say
رَبَّنَآrabbanāOur Lord
أَتْمِمْatmimPerfect
لَنَاlanāfor us
نُورَنَاnūranāour light
وَٱغْفِرْwa-igh'firand grant forgiveness
لَنَآ ۖlanāto us
إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, You
عَلَىٰʿalā(are) over
كُلِّkullievery
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
قَدِيرٌۭqadīrunAll-Powerful
٨(8)
O you who have believed, repent to Allāh with sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove from you your misdeeds and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow [on] the Day when Allāh will not disgrace the Prophet and those who believed with him. Their light will proceed before them and on their right; they will say, "Our Lord, perfect for us our light and forgive us. Indeed, You are over all things competent."

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO
ٱلنَّبِىُّl-nabiyuProphet
جَـٰهِدِjāhidiStrive
ٱلْكُفَّارَl-kufāra(against) the disbelievers
وَٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَwal-munāfiqīnaand the hypocrites
وَٱغْلُظْwa-ugh'luẓand be stern
عَلَيْهِمْ ۚʿalayhimwith them
وَمَأْوَىٰهُمْwamawāhumAnd their abode
جَهَنَّمُ ۖjahannamu(is) Hell
وَبِئْسَwabi'saand wretched is
ٱلْمَصِيرُl-maṣīruthe destination
٩(9)
O Prophet, strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them. And their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the destination.

ضَرَبَḍarabaPresents
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
مَثَلًۭاmathalanan example
لِّلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
ٱمْرَأَتَim'ra-ata(the) wife
نُوحٍۢnūḥin(of) Nuh
وَٱمْرَأَتَwa-im'ra-ata(and the) wife
لُوطٍۢ ۖlūṭin(of) Lut
كَانَتَاkānatāThey were
تَحْتَtaḥtaunder
عَبْدَيْنِʿabdaynitwo [slaves]
مِنْminof
عِبَادِنَاʿibādināOur slaves
صَـٰلِحَيْنِṣāliḥaynirighteous
فَخَانَتَاهُمَاfakhānatāhumābut they both betrayed them
فَلَمْfalamso not
يُغْنِيَاyugh'niyāthey availed
عَنْهُمَاʿanhumāboth of them
مِنَminafrom
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
شَيْـًۭٔاshayan(in) anything
وَقِيلَwaqīlaand it was said
ٱدْخُلَاud'khulāEnter
ٱلنَّارَl-nārathe Fire
مَعَmaʿawith
ٱلدَّٰخِلِينَl-dākhilīnathose who enter
١٠(10)
Allāh presents an example of those who disbelieved: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were under two of Our righteous servants but betrayed them, so they [i.e., those prophets] did not avail them from Allāh at all, and it was said, "Enter the Fire with those who enter."

وَضَرَبَwaḍarabaAnd presents
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
مَثَلًۭاmathalanan example
لِّلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieved
ٱمْرَأَتَim'ra-ata(the) wife
فِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawna(of) Firaun
إِذْidhwhen
قَالَتْqālatshe said
رَبِّrabbiMy Lord
ٱبْنِib'niBuild
لِىlīfor me
عِندَكَʿindakanear You
بَيْتًۭاbaytana house
فِىfīin
ٱلْجَنَّةِl-janatiParadise
وَنَجِّنِىwanajjinīand save me
مِنminfrom
فِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawnaFiraun
وَعَمَلِهِۦwaʿamalihiand his deeds
وَنَجِّنِىwanajjinīand save me
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْقَوْمِl-qawmithe people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
١١(11)
And Allāh presents an example of those who believed: the wife of Pharaoh, when she said, "My Lord, build for me near You a house in Paradise and save me from Pharaoh and his deeds and save me from the wrongdoing people."

وَمَرْيَمَwamaryamaAnd Maryam
ٱبْنَتَib'nata(the) daughter
عِمْرَٰنَʿim'rāna(of) Imran
ٱلَّتِىٓallatīwho
أَحْصَنَتْaḥṣanatguarded
فَرْجَهَاfarjahāher chastity
فَنَفَخْنَاfanafakhnāso We breathed
فِيهِfīhiinto it
مِنminof
رُّوحِنَاrūḥināOur Spirit
وَصَدَّقَتْwaṣaddaqatAnd she believed
بِكَلِمَـٰتِbikalimāti(in the) Words
رَبِّهَاrabbihā(of) her Lord
وَكُتُبِهِۦwakutubihiand His Books
وَكَانَتْwakānatand she was
مِنَminaof
ٱلْقَـٰنِتِينَl-qānitīnathe devoutly obedient
١٢(12)
And [the example of] Mary, the daughter of ʿImrān, who guarded her chastity, so We blew into [her garment] through Our angel [i.e., Gabriel], and she believed in the words of her Lord and His scriptures and was of the devoutly obedient.
