ٱلْحَآقَّةُl-ḥāqatu(is) the Inevitable Reality
٢(2)
What is the Inevitable Reality?

وَمَآwamāAnd what
أَدْرَىٰكَadrākawill make you know
مَاmāwhat
ٱلْحَآقَّةُl-ḥāqatu(is) the Inevitable Reality
٣(3)
And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality?

كَذَّبَتْkadhabatDenied
ثَمُودُthamūduThamud
وَعَادٌۢwaʿādunand Aad
بِٱلْقَارِعَةِbil-qāriʿatithe Striking Calamity
٤(4)
Thamūd and ʿAad denied the Striking Calamity [i.e., the Resurrection].

فَأَمَّاfa-ammāSo as for
ثَمُودُthamūduThamud
فَأُهْلِكُوا۟fa-uh'likūthey were destroyed
بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِbil-ṭāghiyatiby the overpowering (blast)
٥(5)
So as for Thamūd, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast].

وَأَمَّاwa-ammāAnd as for
عَادٌۭʿādunAad
فَأُهْلِكُوا۟fa-uh'likūthey were destroyed
بِرِيحٍۢbirīḥinby a wind
صَرْصَرٍṣarṣarinscreaming
عَاتِيَةٍۢʿātiyatinviolent
٦(6)
And as for ʿAad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind

سَخَّرَهَاsakharahāWhich He imposed
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimupon them
سَبْعَsabʿa(for) seven
لَيَالٍۢlayālinnights
وَثَمَـٰنِيَةَwathamāniyataand eight
أَيَّامٍayyāmindays
حُسُومًۭاḥusūman(in) succession
فَتَرَىfatarāso you would see
ٱلْقَوْمَl-qawmathe people
فِيهَاfīhātherein
صَرْعَىٰṣarʿāfallen
كَأَنَّهُمْka-annahumas if they were
أَعْجَازُaʿjāzutrunks
نَخْلٍnakhlin(of) date-palms
خَاوِيَةٍۢkhāwiyatinhollow
٧(7)
Which He [i.e., Allāh] imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.

فَهَلْfahalThen do
تَرَىٰtarāyou see
لَهُمlahumof them
مِّنۢminany
بَاقِيَةٍۢbāqiyatinremains
٨(8)
Then do you see of them any remains?

وَجَآءَwajāaAnd came
فِرْعَوْنُfir'ʿawnuFiraun
وَمَنwamanand (those)
قَبْلَهُۥqablahubefore him
وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَـٰتُwal-mu'tafikātuand the overturned cities
بِٱلْخَاطِئَةِbil-khāṭi-atiwith sin
٩(9)
And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin.

فَعَصَوْا۟faʿaṣawAnd they disobeyed
رَسُولَrasūla(the) Messenger
رَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) their Lord
فَأَخَذَهُمْfa-akhadhahumso He seized them
أَخْذَةًۭakhdhatan(with) a seizure
رَّابِيَةًrābiyatanexceeding
١٠(10)
And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity].

إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
لَمَّاlammāwhen
طَغَاṭaghāoverflowed
ٱلْمَآءُl-māuthe water
حَمَلْنَـٰكُمْḥamalnākumWe carried you
فِىfīin
ٱلْجَارِيَةِl-jāriyatithe sailing (ship)
١١(11)
Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried you [i.e., your ancestors] in the sailing ship

لِنَجْعَلَهَاlinajʿalahāThat We might make it
لَكُمْlakumfor you
تَذْكِرَةًۭtadhkiratana reminder
وَتَعِيَهَآwataʿiyahāand would be conscious of it
أُذُنٌۭudhununan ear
وَٰعِيَةٌۭwāʿiyatunconscious
١٢(12)
That We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it.

فَإِذَاfa-idhāThen when
نُفِخَnufikhais blown
فِىfīin
ٱلصُّورِl-ṣūrithe trumpet
نَفْخَةٌۭnafkhatuna blast
وَٰحِدَةٌۭwāḥidatunsingle
١٣(13)
Then when the Horn is blown with one blast

وَحُمِلَتِwaḥumilatiAnd are lifted
ٱلْأَرْضُl-arḍuthe earth
وَٱلْجِبَالُwal-jibāluand the mountains
فَدُكَّتَاfadukkatāand crushed
دَكَّةًۭdakkatan(with) a crushing
وَٰحِدَةًۭwāḥidatansingle
١٤(14)
And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow [i.e., stroke] -

فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢfayawma-idhinThen (on) that Day
وَقَعَتِwaqaʿatiwill occur
ٱلْوَاقِعَةُl-wāqiʿatuthe Occurrence
١٥(15)
Then on that Day, the Occurrence [i.e., Resurrection] will occur,

وَٱنشَقَّتِwa-inshaqqatiAnd will split
ٱلسَّمَآءُl-samāuthe heaven
فَهِىَfahiyaso it
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin(is on) that Day
وَاهِيَةٌۭwāhiyatunfrail
١٦(16)
And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm.

وَٱلْمَلَكُwal-malakuAnd the Angels
عَلَىٰٓʿalā(will be) on
أَرْجَآئِهَا ۚarjāihāits edges
وَيَحْمِلُwayaḥmiluand will bear
عَرْشَʿarsha(the) Throne
رَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lord
فَوْقَهُمْfawqahumabove them
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Day
ثَمَـٰنِيَةٌۭthamāniyatuneight
١٧(17)
And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them].

يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinThat Day
تُعْرَضُونَtuʿ'raḍūnayou will be exhibited
لَاlānot
تَخْفَىٰtakhfāwill be hidden
مِنكُمْminkumamong you
خَافِيَةٌۭkhāfiyatunany secret
١٨(18)
That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed.

فَأَمَّاfa-ammāThen as for
مَنْman(him) who
أُوتِىَūtiyais given
كِتَـٰبَهُۥkitābahuhis record
بِيَمِينِهِۦbiyamīnihiin his right hand
فَيَقُولُfayaqūluwill say
هَآؤُمُhāumuHere
ٱقْرَءُوا۟iq'raūread
كِتَـٰبِيَهْkitābiyahmy record
١٩(19)
So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record!

إِنِّىinnīIndeed, I
ظَنَنتُẓanantuwas certain
أَنِّىannīthat I
مُلَـٰقٍmulāqin(will) meet
حِسَابِيَهْḥisābiyahmy account
٢٠(20)
Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account."

فَهُوَfahuwaSo he
فِىfī(will be) in
عِيشَةٍۢʿīshatina life
رَّاضِيَةٍۢrāḍiyatinpleasant
٢١(21)
So he will be in a pleasant life -

فِىfīIn
جَنَّةٍjannatina Garden
عَالِيَةٍۢʿāliyatinelevated
٢٢(22)
In an elevated garden,

قُطُوفُهَاquṭūfuhāIts clusters of fruits
دَانِيَةٌۭdāniyatunhanging near
٢٣(23)
Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near.

كُلُوا۟kulūEat
وَٱشْرَبُوا۟wa-ish'rabūand drink
هَنِيٓـًٔۢاhanīan(in) satisfaction
بِمَآbimāfor what
أَسْلَفْتُمْaslaftumyou sent before you
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَيَّامِl-ayāmithe days
ٱلْخَالِيَةِl-khāliyatipast
٢٤(24)
[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past."

وَأَمَّاwa-ammāBut as for
مَنْman(him) who
أُوتِىَūtiyais given
كِتَـٰبَهُۥkitābahuhis record
بِشِمَالِهِۦbishimālihiin his left hand
فَيَقُولُfayaqūluwill say
يَـٰلَيْتَنِىyālaytanīO! I wish
لَمْlamnot
أُوتَūtaI had been given
كِتَـٰبِيَهْkitābiyahmy record
٢٥(25)
But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my record

وَلَمْwalamAnd not
أَدْرِadriI had known
مَاmāwhat
حِسَابِيَهْḥisābiyah(is) my account
٢٦(26)
And had not known what is my account.

يَـٰلَيْتَهَاyālaytahāO! I wish it
كَانَتِkānatihad been
ٱلْقَاضِيَةَl-qāḍiyatathe end
٢٧(27)
I wish it [i.e., my death] had been the decisive one.

مَآmāNot
أَغْنَىٰaghnāhas availed
عَنِّىʿannīme
مَالِيَهْ ۜmāliyahmy wealth
٢٨(28)
My wealth has not availed me.
Juz 29Page 567
هَلَكَhalakaIs gone
عَنِّىʿannīfrom me
سُلْطَـٰنِيَهْsul'ṭāniyahmy authority
٢٩(29)
Gone from me is my authority."

خُذُوهُkhudhūhuSeize him
فَغُلُّوهُfaghullūhuand shackle him
٣٠(30)
[Allāh will say], "Seize him and shackle him.

ثُمَّthummaThen
ٱلْجَحِيمَl-jaḥīma(into) the Hellfire
صَلُّوهُṣallūhuburn him
٣١(31)
Then into Hellfire drive him.

ثُمَّthummaThen
فِىfīinto
سِلْسِلَةٍۢsil'silatina chain
ذَرْعُهَاdharʿuhāits length
سَبْعُونَsabʿūna(is) seventy
ذِرَاعًۭاdhirāʿancubits
فَٱسْلُكُوهُfa-us'lukūhuinsert him
٣٢(32)
Then into a chain whose length is seventy cubits insert him."

إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, he
كَانَkānawas
لَاlānot
يُؤْمِنُyu'minubelieving
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
ٱلْعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmithe Most Great
٣٣(33)
Indeed, he did not used to believe in Allāh, the Most Great,

وَلَاwalāAnd (did) not
يَحُضُّyaḥuḍḍufeel the urge
عَلَىٰʿalāon
طَعَامِṭaʿāmi(the) feeding
ٱلْمِسْكِينِl-mis'kīni(of) the poor
٣٤(34)
Nor did he encourage the feeding of the poor.

فَلَيْسَfalaysaSo not
لَهُlahufor him
ٱلْيَوْمَl-yawmatoday
هَـٰهُنَاhāhunāhere
حَمِيمٌۭḥamīmunany devoted friend
٣٥(35)
So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend

وَلَاwalāAnd not
طَعَامٌṭaʿāmunany food
إِلَّاillāexcept
مِنْminfrom
غِسْلِينٍۢghis'līnin(the) discharge of wounds
٣٦(36)
Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds;

لَّاlāNot
يَأْكُلُهُۥٓyakuluhuwill eat it
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱلْخَـٰطِـُٔونَl-khāṭiūnathe sinners
٣٧(37)
None will eat it except the sinners.

فَلَآfalāBut nay
أُقْسِمُuq'simuI swear
بِمَاbimāby what
تُبْصِرُونَtub'ṣirūnayou see
٣٨(38)
So I swear by what you see

وَمَاwamāAnd what
لَاlānot
تُبْصِرُونَtub'ṣirūnayou see
٣٩(39)
And what you do not see
Juz 29Page 568
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, it (is)
لَقَوْلُlaqawlusurely (the) Word
رَسُولٍۢrasūlin(of) a Messenger
كَرِيمٍۢkarīminnoble
٤٠(40)
[That] indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is the word of a noble Messenger.

وَمَاwamāAnd not
هُوَhuwait
بِقَوْلِbiqawli(is the) word
شَاعِرٍۢ ۚshāʿirin(of) a poet
قَلِيلًۭاqalīlanlittle
مَّاmā(is) what
تُؤْمِنُونَtu'minūnayou believe
٤١(41)
And it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe.

وَلَاwalāAnd not
بِقَوْلِbiqawli(it is the) word
كَاهِنٍۢ ۚkāhinin(of) a soothsayer
قَلِيلًۭاqalīlanlittle
مَّاmā(is) what
تَذَكَّرُونَtadhakkarūnayou take heed
٤٢(42)
Nor the word of a soothsayer; little do you remember.

تَنزِيلٌۭtanzīlun(It is) a revelation
مِّنminfrom
رَّبِّrabbi(the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds
٤٣(43)
[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.

وَلَوْwalawAnd if
تَقَوَّلَtaqawwalahe (had) fabricated
عَلَيْنَاʿalaynāagainst Us
بَعْضَbaʿḍasome
ٱلْأَقَاوِيلِl-aqāwīlisayings
٤٤(44)
And if he [i.e., Muḥammad] had made up about Us some [false] sayings,

لَأَخَذْنَاla-akhadhnāCertainly We (would) have seized
مِنْهُmin'huhim
بِٱلْيَمِينِbil-yamīniby the right hand
٤٥(45)
We would have seized him by the right hand;

ثُمَّthummaThen
لَقَطَعْنَاlaqaṭaʿnācertainly We (would) have cut off
مِنْهُmin'hufrom him
ٱلْوَتِينَl-watīnathe aorta
٤٦(46)
Then We would have cut from him the aorta.

فَمَاfamāAnd not
مِنكُمminkumfrom you
مِّنْminany
أَحَدٍaḥadinone
عَنْهُʿanhu[from him]
حَـٰجِزِينَḥājizīna(who could) prevent (it)
٤٧(47)
And there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him.

وَإِنَّهُۥwa-innahuAnd indeed, it
لَتَذْكِرَةٌۭlatadhkiratun(is) surely a reminder
لِّلْمُتَّقِينَlil'muttaqīnafor the Allah-fearing
٤٨(48)
And indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is a reminder for the righteous.

وَإِنَّاwa-innāAnd indeed, We
لَنَعْلَمُlanaʿlamusurely know
أَنَّannathat
مِنكُمminkumamong you
مُّكَذِّبِينَmukadhibīna(are) deniers
٤٩(49)
And indeed, We know that among you are deniers.

وَإِنَّهُۥwa-innahuAnd indeed, it
لَحَسْرَةٌlaḥasratun(is) surely a regret
عَلَىʿalāupon
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelievers
٥٠(50)
And indeed, it will be [a cause of] regret upon the disbelievers.

وَإِنَّهُۥwa-innahuAnd indeed, it (is)
لَحَقُّlaḥaqqusurely (the) truth
ٱلْيَقِينِl-yaqīni(of) certainty
٥١(51)
And indeed, it is the truth of certainty.

فَسَبِّحْfasabbiḥSo glorify
بِٱسْمِbi-is'mi(the) name
رَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lord
ٱلْعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmithe Most Great
٥٢(52)
So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
