What is the Inevitable Reality?

وَمَآ
wamāAnd what
أَدْرَىٰكَ
adrākawill make you know
مَا
what
ٱلْحَآقَّةُ
l-ḥāqatu(is) the Inevitable Reality
٣
(3)
And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality?

كَذَّبَتْ
kadhabatDenied
ثَمُودُ
thamūduThamud
وَعَادٌۢ
waʿādunand Aad
بِٱلْقَارِعَةِ
bil-qāriʿatithe Striking Calamity
٤
(4)
Thamūd and ʿAad denied the Striking Calamity [i.e., the Resurrection].

فَأَمَّا
fa-ammāSo as for
ثَمُودُ
thamūduThamud
فَأُهْلِكُوا۟
fa-uh'likūthey were destroyed
بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِ
bil-ṭāghiyatiby the overpowering (blast)
٥
(5)
So as for Thamūd, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast].

وَأَمَّا
wa-ammāAnd as for
عَادٌۭ
ʿādunAad
فَأُهْلِكُوا۟
fa-uh'likūthey were destroyed
بِرِيحٍۢ
birīḥinby a wind
صَرْصَرٍ
ṣarṣarinscreaming
عَاتِيَةٍۢ
ʿātiyatinviolent
٦
(6)
And as for ʿAad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind

سَخَّرَهَا
sakharahāWhich He imposed
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhimupon them
سَبْعَ
sabʿa(for) seven
لَيَالٍۢ
layālinnights
وَثَمَـٰنِيَةَ
wathamāniyataand eight
أَيَّامٍ
ayyāmindays
حُسُومًۭا
ḥusūman(in) succession
فَتَرَى
fatarāso you would see
ٱلْقَوْمَ
l-qawmathe people
فِيهَا
fīhātherein
صَرْعَىٰ
ṣarʿāfallen
كَأَنَّهُمْ
ka-annahumas if they were
أَعْجَازُ
aʿjāzutrunks
نَخْلٍ
nakhlin(of) date-palms
خَاوِيَةٍۢ
khāwiyatinhollow
٧
(7)
Which He [i.e., Allāh] imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.

فَهَلْ
fahalThen do
تَرَىٰ
tarāyou see
لَهُم
lahumof them
مِّنۢ
minany
بَاقِيَةٍۢ
bāqiyatinremains
٨
(8)
Then do you see of them any remains?

وَجَآءَ
wajāaAnd came
فِرْعَوْنُ
fir'ʿawnuFiraun
وَمَن
wamanand (those)
قَبْلَهُۥ
qablahubefore him
وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَـٰتُ
wal-mu'tafikātuand the overturned cities
بِٱلْخَاطِئَةِ
bil-khāṭi-atiwith sin
٩
(9)
And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin.

فَعَصَوْا۟
faʿaṣawAnd they disobeyed
رَسُولَ
rasūla(the) Messenger
رَبِّهِمْ
rabbihim(of) their Lord
فَأَخَذَهُمْ
fa-akhadhahumso He seized them
أَخْذَةًۭ
akhdhatan(with) a seizure
رَّابِيَةً
rābiyatanexceeding
١٠
(10)
And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity].

إِنَّا
innāIndeed, We
لَمَّا
lammāwhen
طَغَا
ṭaghāoverflowed
ٱلْمَآءُ
l-māuthe water
حَمَلْنَـٰكُمْ
ḥamalnākumWe carried you
فِى
in
ٱلْجَارِيَةِ
l-jāriyatithe sailing (ship)

(11)
Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried you [i.e., your ancestors] in the sailing ship

لِنَجْعَلَهَا
linajʿalahāThat We might make it
لَكُمْ
lakumfor you
تَذْكِرَةًۭ
tadhkiratana reminder
وَتَعِيَهَآ
wataʿiyahāand would be conscious of it
أُذُنٌۭ
udhununan ear
وَٰعِيَةٌۭ
wāʿiyatunconscious
١٢
(12)
That We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it.

فَإِذَا
fa-idhāThen when
نُفِخَ
nufikhais blown
فِى
in
ٱلصُّورِ
l-ṣūrithe trumpet
نَفْخَةٌۭ
nafkhatuna blast
وَٰحِدَةٌۭ
wāḥidatunsingle
١٣
(13)
Then when the Horn is blown with one blast

وَحُمِلَتِ
waḥumilatiAnd are lifted
ٱلْأَرْضُ
l-arḍuthe earth
وَٱلْجِبَالُ
wal-jibāluand the mountains
فَدُكَّتَا
fadukkatāand crushed
دَكَّةًۭ
dakkatan(with) a crushing
وَٰحِدَةًۭ
wāḥidatansingle
١٤
(14)
And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow [i.e., stroke] -

فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢ
fayawma-idhinThen (on) that Day
وَقَعَتِ
waqaʿatiwill occur
ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ
l-wāqiʿatuthe Occurrence

(15)
Then on that Day, the Occurrence [i.e., Resurrection] will occur,

وَٱنشَقَّتِ
wa-inshaqqatiAnd will split
ٱلسَّمَآءُ
l-samāuthe heaven
فَهِىَ
fahiyaso it
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ
yawma-idhin(is on) that Day
وَاهِيَةٌۭ
wāhiyatunfrail
١٦
(16)
And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm.

وَٱلْمَلَكُ
wal-malakuAnd the Angels
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalā(will be) on
أَرْجَآئِهَا ۚ
arjāihāits edges
وَيَحْمِلُ
wayaḥmiluand will bear
عَرْشَ
ʿarsha(the) Throne
رَبِّكَ
rabbika(of) your Lord
فَوْقَهُمْ
fawqahumabove them
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ
yawma-idhinthat Day
ثَمَـٰنِيَةٌۭ
thamāniyatuneight
١٧
(17)
And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them].

يَوْمَئِذٍۢ
yawma-idhinThat Day
تُعْرَضُونَ
tuʿ'raḍūnayou will be exhibited
لَا
not
تَخْفَىٰ
takhfāwill be hidden
مِنكُمْ
minkumamong you
خَافِيَةٌۭ
khāfiyatunany secret
١٨
(18)
That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed.

فَأَمَّا
fa-ammāThen as for
مَنْ
man(him) who
أُوتِىَ
ūtiyais given
كِتَـٰبَهُۥ
kitābahuhis record
بِيَمِينِهِۦ
biyamīnihiin his right hand
فَيَقُولُ
fayaqūluwill say
هَآؤُمُ
hāumuHere
ٱقْرَءُوا۟
iq'raūread
كِتَـٰبِيَهْ
kitābiyahmy record
١٩
(19)
So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record!

إِنِّى
innīIndeed, I
ظَنَنتُ
ẓanantuwas certain
أَنِّى
annīthat I
مُلَـٰقٍ
mulāqin(will) meet
حِسَابِيَهْ
ḥisābiyahmy account
٢٠
(20)
Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account."

فَهُوَ
fahuwaSo he
فِى
(will be) in
عِيشَةٍۢ
ʿīshatina life
رَّاضِيَةٍۢ
rāḍiyatinpleasant
٢١
(21)
So he will be in a pleasant life -

In
جَنَّةٍ
jannatina Garden
عَالِيَةٍۢ
ʿāliyatinelevated
٢٢
(22)
In an elevated garden,

قُطُوفُهَا
quṭūfuhāIts clusters of fruits
دَانِيَةٌۭ
dāniyatunhanging near
٢٣
(23)
Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near.

كُلُوا۟
kulūEat
وَٱشْرَبُوا۟
wa-ish'rabūand drink
هَنِيٓـًٔۢا
hanīan(in) satisfaction
بِمَآ
bimāfor what
أَسْلَفْتُمْ
aslaftumyou sent before you
فِى
in
ٱلْأَيَّامِ
l-ayāmithe days
ٱلْخَالِيَةِ
l-khāliyatipast
٢٤
(24)
[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past."

وَأَمَّا
wa-ammāBut as for
مَنْ
man(him) who
أُوتِىَ
ūtiyais given
كِتَـٰبَهُۥ
kitābahuhis record
بِشِمَالِهِۦ
bishimālihiin his left hand
فَيَقُولُ
fayaqūluwill say
يَـٰلَيْتَنِى
yālaytanīO! I wish
لَمْ
lamnot
أُوتَ
ūtaI had been given
كِتَـٰبِيَهْ
kitābiyahmy record
٢٥
(25)
But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my record

وَلَمْ
walamAnd not
أَدْرِ
adriI had known
مَا
what
حِسَابِيَهْ
ḥisābiyah(is) my account
٢٦
(26)
And had not known what is my account.

يَـٰلَيْتَهَا
yālaytahāO! I wish it
كَانَتِ
kānatihad been
ٱلْقَاضِيَةَ
l-qāḍiyatathe end
٢٧
(27)
I wish it [i.e., my death] had been the decisive one.

مَآ
Not
أَغْنَىٰ
aghnāhas availed
عَنِّى
ʿannīme
مَالِيَهْ ۜ
māliyahmy wealth
٢٨
(28)
My wealth has not availed me.

هَلَكَ
halakaIs gone
عَنِّى
ʿannīfrom me
سُلْطَـٰنِيَهْ
sul'ṭāniyahmy authority
٢٩
(29)
Gone from me is my authority."

خُذُوهُ
khudhūhuSeize him
فَغُلُّوهُ
faghullūhuand shackle him
٣٠
(30)
[Allāh will say], "Seize him and shackle him.

ثُمَّ
thummaThen
ٱلْجَحِيمَ
l-jaḥīma(into) the Hellfire
صَلُّوهُ
ṣallūhuburn him
٣١
(31)
Then into Hellfire drive him.

ثُمَّ
thummaThen
فِى
into
سِلْسِلَةٍۢ
sil'silatina chain
ذَرْعُهَا
dharʿuhāits length
سَبْعُونَ
sabʿūna(is) seventy
ذِرَاعًۭا
dhirāʿancubits
فَٱسْلُكُوهُ
fa-us'lukūhuinsert him
٣٢
(32)
Then into a chain whose length is seventy cubits insert him."

إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, he
كَانَ
kānawas
لَا
not
يُؤْمِنُ
yu'minubelieving
بِٱللَّهِ
bil-lahiin Allah
ٱلْعَظِيمِ
l-ʿaẓīmithe Most Great
٣٣
(33)
Indeed, he did not used to believe in Allāh, the Most Great,

وَلَا
walāAnd (did) not
يَحُضُّ
yaḥuḍḍufeel the urge
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāon
طَعَامِ
ṭaʿāmi(the) feeding
ٱلْمِسْكِينِ
l-mis'kīni(of) the poor
٣٤
(34)
Nor did he encourage the feeding of the poor.

فَلَيْسَ
falaysaSo not
لَهُ
lahufor him
ٱلْيَوْمَ
l-yawmatoday
هَـٰهُنَا
hāhunāhere
حَمِيمٌۭ
ḥamīmunany devoted friend
٣٥
(35)
So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend

وَلَا
walāAnd not
طَعَامٌ
ṭaʿāmunany food
إِلَّا
illāexcept
مِنْ
minfrom
غِسْلِينٍۢ
ghis'līnin(the) discharge of wounds
٣٦
(36)
Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds;

لَّا
Not
يَأْكُلُهُۥٓ
yakuluhuwill eat it
إِلَّا
illāexcept
ٱلْخَـٰطِـُٔونَ
l-khāṭiūnathe sinners
٣٧
(37)
None will eat it except the sinners.

فَلَآ
falāBut nay
أُقْسِمُ
uq'simuI swear
بِمَا
bimāby what
تُبْصِرُونَ
tub'ṣirūnayou see
٣٨
(38)
So I swear by what you see

وَمَا
wamāAnd what
لَا
not
تُبْصِرُونَ
tub'ṣirūnayou see
٣٩
(39)
And what you do not see
Juz 29Page 568
40
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, it (is)
لَقَوْلُ
laqawlusurely (the) Word
رَسُولٍۢ
rasūlin(of) a Messenger
كَرِيمٍۢ
karīminnoble
٤٠
(40)
[That] indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is the word of a noble Messenger.

وَمَا
wamāAnd not
هُوَ
huwait
بِقَوْلِ
biqawli(is the) word
شَاعِرٍۢ ۚ
shāʿirin(of) a poet
قَلِيلًۭا
qalīlanlittle
مَّا
(is) what
تُؤْمِنُونَ
tu'minūnayou believe
٤١
(41)
And it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe.

وَلَا
walāAnd not
بِقَوْلِ
biqawli(it is the) word
كَاهِنٍۢ ۚ
kāhinin(of) a soothsayer
قَلِيلًۭا
qalīlanlittle
مَّا
(is) what
تَذَكَّرُونَ
tadhakkarūnayou take heed
٤٢
(42)
Nor the word of a soothsayer; little do you remember.

تَنزِيلٌۭ
tanzīlun(It is) a revelation
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّ
rabbi(the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
l-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds
٤٣
(43)
[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.

وَلَوْ
walawAnd if
تَقَوَّلَ
taqawwalahe (had) fabricated
عَلَيْنَا
ʿalaynāagainst Us
بَعْضَ
baʿḍasome
ٱلْأَقَاوِيلِ
l-aqāwīlisayings
٤٤
(44)
And if he [i.e., Muḥammad] had made up about Us some [false] sayings,

لَأَخَذْنَا
la-akhadhnāCertainly We (would) have seized
مِنْهُ
min'huhim
بِٱلْيَمِينِ
bil-yamīniby the right hand
٤٥
(45)
We would have seized him by the right hand;

ثُمَّ
thummaThen
لَقَطَعْنَا
laqaṭaʿnācertainly We (would) have cut off
مِنْهُ
min'hufrom him
ٱلْوَتِينَ
l-watīnathe aorta
٤٦
(46)
Then We would have cut from him the aorta.

فَمَا
famāAnd not
مِنكُم
minkumfrom you
مِّنْ
minany
أَحَدٍ
aḥadinone
عَنْهُ
ʿanhu[from him]
حَـٰجِزِينَ
ḥājizīna(who could) prevent (it)
٤٧
(47)
And there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him.

وَإِنَّهُۥ
wa-innahuAnd indeed, it
لَتَذْكِرَةٌۭ
latadhkiratun(is) surely a reminder
لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ
lil'muttaqīnafor the Allah-fearing
٤٨
(48)
And indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is a reminder for the righteous.

وَإِنَّا
wa-innāAnd indeed, We
لَنَعْلَمُ
lanaʿlamusurely know
أَنَّ
annathat
مِنكُم
minkumamong you
مُّكَذِّبِينَ
mukadhibīna(are) deniers
٤٩
(49)
And indeed, We know that among you are deniers.

وَإِنَّهُۥ
wa-innahuAnd indeed, it
لَحَسْرَةٌ
laḥasratun(is) surely a regret
عَلَى
ʿalāupon
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
l-kāfirīnathe disbelievers
٥٠
(50)
And indeed, it will be [a cause of] regret upon the disbelievers.

وَإِنَّهُۥ
wa-innahuAnd indeed, it (is)
لَحَقُّ
laḥaqqusurely (the) truth
ٱلْيَقِينِ
l-yaqīni(of) certainty
٥١
(51)
And indeed, it is the truth of certainty.

فَسَبِّحْ
fasabbiḥSo glorify
بِٱسْمِ
bi-is'mi(the) name
رَبِّكَ
rabbika(of) your Lord
ٱلْعَظِيمِ
l-ʿaẓīmithe Most Great
٥٢
(52)
So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
