الٓمٓصٓ

Alif, Lām, Meem, Ṣād.

كِتَـٰبٌ
kitābun(This is) a Book
أُنزِلَ
unzilarevealed
إِلَيْكَ
ilaykato you
فَلَا
falāso (let) not
يَكُن
yakunbe
فِى
in
صَدْرِكَ
ṣadrikayour breast
حَرَجٌۭ
ḥarajunany uneasiness
مِّنْهُ
min'hufrom it
لِتُنذِرَ
litundhirathat you warn
بِهِۦ
bihiwith it
وَذِكْرَىٰ
wadhik'rāand a reminder
لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
lil'mu'minīnafor the believers
٢
(2)
[This is] a Book revealed to you, [O Muḥammad] - so let there not be in your breast distress therefrom - that you may warn thereby and as a reminder to the believers.

ٱتَّبِعُوا۟
ittabiʿūFollow
مَآ
what
أُنزِلَ
unzilahas been revealed
إِلَيْكُم
ilaykumto you
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّكُمْ
rabbikumyour Lord
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تَتَّبِعُوا۟
tattabiʿūfollow
مِن
minfrom
دُونِهِۦٓ
dūnihibeside Him
أَوْلِيَآءَ ۗ
awliyāaany allies
قَلِيلًۭا
qalīlanLittle
مَّا
(is) what
تَذَكَّرُونَ
tadhakkarūnayou remember
٣
(3)
Follow, [O mankind], what has been revealed to you from your Lord and do not follow other than Him any allies. Little do you remember.

وَكَم
wakamAnd how many
مِّن
minof
قَرْيَةٍ
qaryatina city
أَهْلَكْنَـٰهَا
ahlaknāhāWe destroyed it
فَجَآءَهَا
fajāahāand came to it
بَأْسُنَا
basunāOur punishment
بَيَـٰتًا
bayātan(at) night
أَوْ
awor
هُمْ
hum(while) they
قَآئِلُونَ
qāilūnawere sleeping at noon
٤
(4)
And how many cities have We destroyed, and Our punishment came to them at night or while they were sleeping at noon.

فَمَا
famāThen not
كَانَ
kānawas
دَعْوَىٰهُمْ
daʿwāhumtheir plea
إِذْ
idhwhen
جَآءَهُم
jāahumcame to them
بَأْسُنَآ
basunāOur punishment
إِلَّآ
illāexcept
أَن
anthat
قَالُوٓا۟
qālūthey said
إِنَّا
innāIndeed, we
كُنَّا
kunnāwere
ظَـٰلِمِينَ
ẓālimīnawrongdoers
٥
(5)
And their declaration when Our punishment came to them was only that they said, "Indeed, we were wrongdoers!"

فَلَنَسْـَٔلَنَّ
falanasalannaThen surely We will question
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose (to) whom
أُرْسِلَ
ur'silawere sent
إِلَيْهِمْ
ilayhimto them (Messengers)
وَلَنَسْـَٔلَنَّ
walanasalannaand surely We will question
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
l-mur'salīnathe Messengers
٦
(6)
Then We will surely question those to whom [a message] was sent, and We will surely question the messengers.

فَلَنَقُصَّنَّ
falanaquṣṣannaThen surely We will narrate
عَلَيْهِم
ʿalayhimto them
بِعِلْمٍۢ ۖ
biʿil'minwith knowledge
وَمَا
wamāand not
كُنَّا
kunnāwere We
غَآئِبِينَ
ghāibīnaabsent
٧
(7)
Then We will surely relate [their deeds] to them with knowledge, and We were not [at all] absent.

وَٱلْوَزْنُ
wal-waznuAnd the weighing
يَوْمَئِذٍ
yawma-idhinthat day
ٱلْحَقُّ ۚ
l-ḥaqu(will be) the truth
فَمَن
famanSo whose
ثَقُلَتْ
thaqulat(will be) heavy
مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ
mawāzīnuhuhis scales
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
fa-ulāikathen those
هُمُ
humu[they]
ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ
l-muf'liḥūna(will be) the successful ones
٨
(8)
And the weighing [of deeds] that Day will be the truth. So those whose scales are heavy - it is they who will be the successful.

وَمَنْ
wamanAnd (for) those
خَفَّتْ
khaffat(will be) light
مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ
mawāzīnuhuhis scales
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
fa-ulāikaso those
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna(will be) the ones who
خَسِرُوٓا۟
khasirūlost
أَنفُسَهُم
anfusahumthemselves
بِمَا
bimābecause
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey were
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا
biāyātināto Our Verses
يَظْلِمُونَ
yaẓlimūna(doing) injustice
٩
(9)
And those whose scales are light - they are the ones who will lose themselves for what injustice they were doing toward Our verses.

وَلَقَدْ
walaqadAnd certainly
مَكَّنَّـٰكُمْ
makkannākumWe established you
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
وَجَعَلْنَا
wajaʿalnāand We made
لَكُمْ
lakumfor you
فِيهَا
fīhāin it
مَعَـٰيِشَ ۗ
maʿāyishalivelihood
قَلِيلًۭا
qalīlanLittle
مَّا
(is) what
تَشْكُرُونَ
tashkurūnayou (are) grateful
١٠
(10)
And We have certainly established you upon the earth and made for you therein ways of livelihood. Little are you grateful.

وَلَقَدْ
walaqadAnd certainly
خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ
khalaqnākumWe created you
ثُمَّ
thummathen
صَوَّرْنَـٰكُمْ
ṣawwarnākumWe fashioned you
ثُمَّ
thummaThen
قُلْنَا
qul'nāWe said
لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ
lil'malāikatito the Angels
ٱسْجُدُوا۟
us'judūProstrate
لِـَٔادَمَ
liādamato Adam
فَسَجَدُوٓا۟
fasajadūSo they prostrated
إِلَّآ
illāexcept
إِبْلِيسَ
ib'līsaIblis
لَمْ
lamNot
يَكُن
yakunhe was
مِّنَ
minaof
ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ
l-sājidīnathose who prostrated
١١
(11)
And We have certainly created you, [O mankind], and given you [human] form. Then We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam"; so they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was not of those who prostrated.

قَالَ
qāla(Allah) said
مَا
What
مَنَعَكَ
manaʿakaprevented you
أَلَّا
allāthat not
تَسْجُدَ
tasjudayou prostrate
إِذْ
idhwhen
أَمَرْتُكَ ۖ
amartukaI commanded you
قَالَ
qāla(Shaitaan) said
أَنَا۠
anāI am
خَيْرٌۭ
khayrunbetter
مِّنْهُ
min'huthan him
خَلَقْتَنِى
khalaqtanīYou created me
مِن
minfrom
نَّارٍۢ
nārinfire
وَخَلَقْتَهُۥ
wakhalaqtahuand You created him
مِن
minfrom
طِينٍۢ
ṭīninclay
١٢
(12)
[Allāh] said, "What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?" [Satan] said, "I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay [i.e., earth]."

قَالَ
qāla(Allah) said
فَٱهْبِطْ
fa-ih'biṭThen go down
مِنْهَا
min'hāfrom it
فَمَا
famāfor not
يَكُونُ
yakūnuit is
لَكَ
lakafor you
أَن
anthat
تَتَكَبَّرَ
tatakabbarayou be arrogant
فِيهَا
fīhāin it
فَٱخْرُجْ
fa-ukh'rujSo get out
إِنَّكَ
innakaindeed, you
مِنَ
mina(are) of
ٱلصَّـٰغِرِينَ
l-ṣāghirīnathe disgraced ones
١٣
(13)
[Allāh] said, "Descend from it [i.e., Paradise], for it is not for you to be arrogant therein. So get out; indeed, you are of the debased."

قَالَ
qāla(Shaitaan) said
أَنظِرْنِىٓ
anẓir'nīGive me respite
إِلَىٰ
ilātill
يَوْمِ
yawmi(the) Day
يُبْعَثُونَ
yub'ʿathūnathey are raised up
١٤
(14)
[Satan] said, "Reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected."

قَالَ
qāla(Allah) said
إِنَّكَ
innakaIndeed, you
مِنَ
mina(are) of
ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ
l-munẓarīnathe ones given respite
١٥
(15)
[Allāh] said, "Indeed, you are of those reprieved."

قَالَ
qāla(Shaitaan) said
فَبِمَآ
fabimāBecause
أَغْوَيْتَنِى
aghwaytanīYou have sent me astray
لَأَقْعُدَنَّ
la-aqʿudannasurely I will sit
لَهُمْ
lahumfor them
صِرَٰطَكَ
ṣirāṭaka(on) Your path
ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ
l-mus'taqīmathe straight
١٦
(16)
[Satan] said, "Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them [i.e., mankind] on Your straight path.

ثُمَّ
thummaThen
لَـَٔاتِيَنَّهُم
laātiyannahumsurely, I will come to them
مِّنۢ
minfrom
بَيْنِ
baynibefore
أَيْدِيهِمْ
aydīhimthem
وَمِنْ
waminand from
خَلْفِهِمْ
khalfihimbehind them
وَعَنْ
waʿanand from
أَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ
aymānihimtheir right
وَعَن
waʿanand from
شَمَآئِلِهِمْ ۖ
shamāilihimtheir left
وَلَا
walāand not
تَجِدُ
tajiduYou (will) find
أَكْثَرَهُمْ
aktharahummost of them
شَـٰكِرِينَ
shākirīnagrateful
١٧
(17)
Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful [to You]."

18
قَالَ
qāla(Allah) said
ٱخْرُجْ
ukh'rujGet out
مِنْهَا
min'hāof it
مَذْءُومًۭا
madhūmandisgraced
مَّدْحُورًۭا ۖ
madḥūranand expelled
لَّمَن
lamanCertainly, whoever
تَبِعَكَ
tabiʿakafollows you
مِنْهُمْ
min'humamong them
لَأَمْلَأَنَّ
la-amla-annasurely, I will fill
جَهَنَّمَ
jahannamaHell
مِنكُمْ
minkumwith you
أَجْمَعِينَ
ajmaʿīnaall
١٨
(18)
[Allāh] said, "Depart from it [i.e., Paradise], reproached and expelled. Whoever follows you among them - I will surely fill Hell with you, all together."

وَيَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ
wayāādamuAnd O Adam
ٱسْكُنْ
us'kunDwell
أَنتَ
antayou
وَزَوْجُكَ
wazawjukaand your wife
ٱلْجَنَّةَ
l-janata(in) the Garden
فَكُلَا
fakulāand you both eat
مِنْ
minfrom
حَيْثُ
ḥaythuwherever
شِئْتُمَا
shi'tumāyou both wish
وَلَا
walābut (do) not
تَقْرَبَا
taqrabāapproach [both of you]
هَـٰذِهِ
hādhihithis
ٱلشَّجَرَةَ
l-shajarata[the] tree
فَتَكُونَا
fatakūnālest you both be
مِنَ
minaamong
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
١٩
(19)
And "O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat from wherever you will but do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers."

فَوَسْوَسَ
fawaswasaThen whispered
لَهُمَا
lahumāto both of them
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ
l-shayṭānuthe Shaitaan
لِيُبْدِىَ
liyub'diyato make apparent
لَهُمَا
lahumāto both of them
مَا
what
وُۥرِىَ
wūriyawas concealed
عَنْهُمَا
ʿanhumāfrom both of them
مِن
minof
سَوْءَٰتِهِمَا
sawātihimātheir shame
وَقَالَ
waqālaAnd he said
مَا
(Did) not
نَهَىٰكُمَا
nahākumāforbid you both
رَبُّكُمَا
rabbukumāyour Lord
عَنْ
ʿanfrom
هَـٰذِهِ
hādhihithis
ٱلشَّجَرَةِ
l-shajarati[the] tree
إِلَّآ
illāexcept
أَن
anthat
تَكُونَا
takūnāyou two become
مَلَكَيْنِ
malakayniAngels
أَوْ
awor
تَكُونَا
takūnāyou two become
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْخَـٰلِدِينَ
l-khālidīnathe immortals
٢٠
(20)
But Satan whispered to them to make apparent to them that which was concealed from them of their private parts. He said, "Your Lord did not forbid you this tree except that you become angels or become of the immortal."

وَقَاسَمَهُمَآ
waqāsamahumāAnd he swore (to) both of them
إِنِّى
innīIndeed, I am
لَكُمَا
lakumāto both of you
لَمِنَ
laminaamong
ٱلنَّـٰصِحِينَ
l-nāṣiḥīnathe sincere advisors
٢١
(21)
And he swore [by Allāh] to them, "Indeed, I am to you from among the sincere advisors."

فَدَلَّىٰهُمَا
fadallāhumāSo he made both of them fall
بِغُرُورٍۢ ۚ
bighurūrinby deception
فَلَمَّا
falammāThen when
ذَاقَا
dhāqāthey both tasted
ٱلشَّجَرَةَ
l-shajaratathe tree
بَدَتْ
badatbecame apparent
لَهُمَا
lahumāto both of them
سَوْءَٰتُهُمَا
sawātuhumātheir shame
وَطَفِقَا
waṭafiqāand they began
يَخْصِفَانِ
yakhṣifāni(to) fasten
عَلَيْهِمَا
ʿalayhimāover themselves
مِن
minfrom
وَرَقِ
waraqi(the) leaves
ٱلْجَنَّةِ ۖ
l-janati(of) the Garden
وَنَادَىٰهُمَا
wanādāhumāAnd called them both
رَبُّهُمَآ
rabbuhumātheir Lord
أَلَمْ
alamDid not
أَنْهَكُمَا
anhakumāI forbid you both
عَن
ʿanfrom
تِلْكُمَا
til'kumāthis
ٱلشَّجَرَةِ
l-shajarati[the] tree
وَأَقُل
wa-aquland [I] say
لَّكُمَآ
lakumāto both of you
إِنَّ
innathat
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ
l-shayṭāna[the] Shaitaan
لَكُمَا
lakumāto both of you
عَدُوٌّۭ
ʿaduwwun(is) an enemy
مُّبِينٌۭ
mubīnunopen
٢٢
(22)
So he made them fall, through deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called to them, "Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is to you a clear enemy?"

قَالَا
qālāBoth of them said
رَبَّنَا
rabbanāOur Lord
ظَلَمْنَآ
ẓalamnāwe have wronged
أَنفُسَنَا
anfusanāourselves
وَإِن
wa-inand if
لَّمْ
lamnot
تَغْفِرْ
taghfirYou forgive
لَنَا
lanā[for] us
وَتَرْحَمْنَا
watarḥamnāand have mercy (on) us
لَنَكُونَنَّ
lanakūnannasurely, we will be
مِنَ
minaamong
ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ
l-khāsirīnathe losers
٢٣
(23)
They said, "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers."

قَالَ
qāla(Allah) said
ٱهْبِطُوا۟
ih'biṭūGet down
بَعْضُكُمْ
baʿḍukumsome of you
لِبَعْضٍ
libaʿḍinto some others
عَدُوٌّۭ ۖ
ʿaduwwun(as) enemy
وَلَكُمْ
walakumAnd for you
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
مُسْتَقَرٌّۭ
mus'taqarrun(is) a dwelling place
وَمَتَـٰعٌ
wamatāʿunand livelihood
إِلَىٰ
ilāfor
حِينٍۢ
ḥīnina time
٢٤
(24)
[Allāh] said, "Descend, being to one another enemies. And for you on the earth is a place of settlement and enjoyment [i.e., provision] for a time."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
فِيهَا
fīhāIn it
تَحْيَوْنَ
taḥyawnayou will live
وَفِيهَا
wafīhāand in it
تَمُوتُونَ
tamūtūnayou will die
وَمِنْهَا
wamin'hāand from it
تُخْرَجُونَ
tukh'rajūnayou will be brought forth
٢٥
(25)
He said, "Therein you will live, and therein you will die, and from it you will be brought forth."

يَـٰبَنِىٓ
yābanīO Children
ءَادَمَ
ādama(of) Adam
قَدْ
qadVerily
أَنزَلْنَا
anzalnāWe have sent down
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykumto you
لِبَاسًۭا
libāsanclothing
يُوَٰرِى
yuwārīit covers
سَوْءَٰتِكُمْ
sawātikumyour shame
وَرِيشًۭا ۖ
warīshanand (as) an adornment
وَلِبَاسُ
walibāsuBut the clothing
ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ
l-taqwā(of) [the] righteousness
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikathat
خَيْرٌۭ ۚ
khayrun(is) best
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
مِنْ
min(is) from
ءَايَـٰتِ
āyāti(the) Signs
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
لَعَلَّهُمْ
laʿallahumso that they may
يَذَّكَّرُونَ
yadhakkarūnaremember
٢٦
(26)
O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness - that is best. That is from the signs of Allāh that perhaps they will remember.

يَـٰبَنِىٓ
yābanīO Children
ءَادَمَ
ādama(of) Adam
لَا
(Let) not
يَفْتِنَنَّكُمُ
yaftinannakumutempt you
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ
l-shayṭānu[the] Shaitaan
كَمَآ
kamāas
أَخْرَجَ
akhrajahe drove out
أَبَوَيْكُم
abawaykumyour parents
مِّنَ
minafrom
ٱلْجَنَّةِ
l-janatiParadise
يَنزِعُ
yanziʿustripping
عَنْهُمَا
ʿanhumāfrom both of them
لِبَاسَهُمَا
libāsahumātheir clothing
لِيُرِيَهُمَا
liyuriyahumāto show both of them
سَوْءَٰتِهِمَآ ۗ
sawātihimātheir shame
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, he
يَرَىٰكُمْ
yarākumsees you
هُوَ
huwahe
وَقَبِيلُهُۥ
waqabīluhuand his tribe
مِنْ
minfrom
حَيْثُ
ḥaythuwhere
لَا
not
تَرَوْنَهُمْ ۗ
tarawnahumyou see them
إِنَّا
innāIndeed
جَعَلْنَا
jaʿalnāWe have made
ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ
l-shayāṭīnathe devils
أَوْلِيَآءَ
awliyāafriends
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhīnaof those who
لَا
(do) not
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūnabelieve
٢٧
(27)
O children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts. Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. Indeed, We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe.

وَإِذَا
wa-idhāAnd when
فَعَلُوا۟
faʿalūthey do
فَـٰحِشَةًۭ
fāḥishatanimmorality
قَالُوا۟
qālūthey say
وَجَدْنَا
wajadnāWe found
عَلَيْهَآ
ʿalayhāon it
ءَابَآءَنَا
ābāanāour forefathers
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahuand Allah
أَمَرَنَا
amaranā(has) ordered us
بِهَا ۗ
bihāof it
قُلْ
qulSay
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
لَا
(does) not
يَأْمُرُ
yamuruorder
بِٱلْفَحْشَآءِ ۖ
bil-faḥshāiimmorality
أَتَقُولُونَ
ataqūlūnaDo you say
عَلَى
ʿalāabout
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
مَا
what
لَا
not
تَعْلَمُونَ
taʿlamūnayou know
٢٨
(28)
And when they commit an immorality, they say, "We found our fathers doing it, and Allāh has ordered us to do it." Say, "Indeed, Allāh does not order immorality. Do you say about Allāh that which you do not know?"

قُلْ
qulSay
أَمَرَ
amara(Has been) ordered
رَبِّى
rabbī(by) my Lord
بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۖ
bil-qis'ṭijustice
وَأَقِيمُوا۟
wa-aqīmūand set
وُجُوهَكُمْ
wujūhakumyour faces
عِندَ
ʿindaat
كُلِّ
kullievery
مَسْجِدٍۢ
masjidinmasjid
وَٱدْعُوهُ
wa-id'ʿūhuand invoke Him
مُخْلِصِينَ
mukh'liṣīna(being) sincere
لَهُ
lahuto Him
ٱلدِّينَ ۚ
l-dīna(in) the religion
كَمَا
kamāAs
بَدَأَكُمْ
bada-akumHe originated you
تَعُودُونَ
taʿūdūna(so) will you return
٢٩
(29)
Say, [O Muḥammad], "My Lord has ordered justice and that you direct yourselves [to the Qiblah] at every place [or time] of prostration, and invoke Him, sincere to Him in religion." Just as He originated you, you will return [to life] -

فَرِيقًا
farīqanA group
هَدَىٰ
hadāHe guided
وَفَرِيقًا
wafarīqanand a group
حَقَّ
ḥaqqadeserved
عَلَيْهِمُ
ʿalayhimu[on] they
ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةُ ۗ
l-ḍalālatuthe astraying
إِنَّهُمُ
innahumuIndeed, they
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟
ittakhadhūtake
ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ
l-shayāṭīnathe devils
أَوْلِيَآءَ
awliyāa(as) allies
مِن
minfrom
دُونِ
dūnibesides
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
وَيَحْسَبُونَ
wayaḥsabūnawhile they think
أَنَّهُم
annahumthat they
مُّهْتَدُونَ
muh'tadūna(are the) guided-ones
٣٠
(30)
A group [of you] He guided, and a group deserved [to be in] error. Indeed, they [i.e., the latter] had taken the devils as allies instead of Allāh while they thought that they were guided.

۞ يَـٰبَنِىٓ
yābanīO Children
ءَادَمَ
ādama(of) Adam
خُذُوا۟
khudhūTake
زِينَتَكُمْ
zīnatakumyour adornment
عِندَ

كُلِّ
kullievery
مَسْجِدٍۢ
masjidinmasjid
وَكُلُوا۟
wakulūand eat
وَٱشْرَبُوا۟
wa-ish'rabūand drink
وَلَا
walābut (do) not
تُسْرِفُوٓا۟ ۚ
tus'rifūbe extravagant
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, He
لَا
(does) not
يُحِبُّ
yuḥibbulove
ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ
l-mus'rifīnathe extravagant ones
٣١
(31)
O children of Adam, take your adornment [i.e., wear your clothing] at every masjid, and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.

حَرَّمَ
ḥarramahas forbidden
زِينَةَ
zīnata(the) adornment
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(from) Allah
ٱلَّتِىٓ
allatīwhich
أَخْرَجَ
akhrajaHe has brought forth
لِعِبَادِهِۦ
liʿibādihifor His slaves
وَٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ
wal-ṭayibātiand the pure things
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلرِّزْقِ ۚ
l-riz'qisustenance
قُلْ
qulSay
هِىَ
hiyaThey
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhīna(are) for those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieve
فِى
during
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayatithe life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā(of) the world
خَالِصَةًۭ
khāliṣatanexclusively (for them)
يَوْمَ
yawma(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۗ
l-qiyāmati(of) Resurrection
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālikaThus
نُفَصِّلُ
nufaṣṣiluWe explain
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ
l-āyātithe Signs
لِقَوْمٍۢ
liqawminfor (the) people
يَعْلَمُونَ
yaʿlamūnawho know
٣٢
(32)
Say, "Who has forbidden the adornment of [i.e., from] Allāh which He has produced for His servants and the good [lawful] things of provision?" Say, "They are for those who believed during the life of this world, exclusively [for them] on the Day of Resurrection." Thus do We detail the verses for a people who know.

إِنَّمَا
innamāOnly
حَرَّمَ
ḥarrama(had) forbidden
رَبِّىَ
rabbiyamy Lord
ٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ
l-fawāḥishathe shameful deeds
مَا
what
ظَهَرَ
ẓahara(is) apparent
مِنْهَا
min'hāof it
وَمَا
wamāand what
بَطَنَ
baṭanais concealed
وَٱلْإِثْمَ
wal-ith'maand the sin
وَٱلْبَغْىَ
wal-baghyaand the oppression
بِغَيْرِ
bighayriwithout
ٱلْحَقِّ
l-ḥaqi[the] right
وَأَن
wa-anand that
تُشْرِكُوا۟
tush'rikūyou associate (others)
بِٱللَّهِ
bil-lahiwith Allah
مَا
what
لَمْ
lamnot
يُنَزِّلْ
yunazzilHe (has) sent down
بِهِۦ
bihiof it
سُلْطَـٰنًۭا
sul'ṭānanany authority
وَأَن
wa-anand that
تَقُولُوا۟
taqūlūyou say
عَلَى
ʿalāabout
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
مَا
what
لَا
not
تَعْلَمُونَ
taʿlamūnayou know
٣٣
(33)
Say, "My Lord has only forbidden immoralities - what is apparent of them and what is concealed - and sin, and oppression without right, and that you associate with Allāh that for which He has not sent down authority, and that you say about Allāh that which you do not know."

وَلِكُلِّ
walikulliAnd for every
أُمَّةٍ
ummatinnation
أَجَلٌۭ ۖ
ajalun(is a fixed) term
فَإِذَا
fa-idhāSo when
جَآءَ
jāacomes
أَجَلُهُمْ
ajaluhumtheir term
لَا
(they can) not
يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ
yastakhirūnaseek to delay
سَاعَةًۭ ۖ
sāʿatanan hour
وَلَا
walāand not
يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ
yastaqdimūnaseek to advance (it)
٣٤
(34)
And for every nation is a [specified] term. So when their time has come, they will not remain behind an hour, nor will they precede [it].

يَـٰبَنِىٓ
yābanīO Children
ءَادَمَ
ādama(of) Adam
إِمَّا
immāIf
يَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ
yatiyannakumcome to you
رُسُلٌۭ
rusulunMessengers
مِّنكُمْ
minkumfrom you
يَقُصُّونَ
yaquṣṣūnarelating
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykumto you
ءَايَـٰتِى ۙ
āyātīMy Verses
فَمَنِ
famanithen whoever
ٱتَّقَىٰ
ittaqāfears Allah
وَأَصْلَحَ
wa-aṣlaḥaand reforms
فَلَا
falāthen no
خَوْفٌ
khawfunfear
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhimon them
وَلَا
walāand not
هُمْ
humthey
يَحْزَنُونَ
yaḥzanūnawill grieve
٣٥
(35)
O children of Adam, if there come to you messengers from among you relating to you My verses [i.e., scriptures and laws], then whoever fears Allāh and reforms - there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaBut those who
كَذَّبُوا۟
kadhabūdeny
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا
biāyātināOur Verses
وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟
wa-is'takbarūand (are) arrogant
عَنْهَآ
ʿanhātowards them
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāikathose
أَصْحَـٰبُ
aṣḥābu(are the) companions
ٱلنَّارِ ۖ
l-nāri(of) the Fire
هُمْ
humthey
فِيهَا
fīhāin it
خَـٰلِدُونَ
khālidūnawill abide forever
٣٦
(36)
But the ones who deny Our verses and are arrogant toward them - those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.

فَمَنْ
famanThen who
أَظْلَمُ
aẓlamu(is) more unjust
مِمَّنِ
mimmanithan (one) who
ٱفْتَرَىٰ
if'tarāinvented
عَلَى
ʿalāagainst
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
كَذِبًا
kadhibana lie
أَوْ
awor
كَذَّبَ
kadhabadenies
بِـَٔايَـٰتِهِۦٓ ۚ
biāyātihiHis Verses
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāikaThose
يَنَالُهُمْ
yanāluhumwill reach them
نَصِيبُهُم
naṣībuhumtheir portion
مِّنَ
minafrom
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ۖ
l-kitābithe Book
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattāuntil
إِذَا
idhāwhen
جَآءَتْهُمْ
jāathumcomes to them
رُسُلُنَا
rusulunāOur messengers (Angels)
يَتَوَفَّوْنَهُمْ
yatawaffawnahum(to) take them in death
قَالُوٓا۟
qālūthey say
أَيْنَ
aynaWhere are
مَا
those (whom)
كُنتُمْ
kuntumyou used to
تَدْعُونَ
tadʿūnainvoke
مِن
minfrom
دُونِ
dūnibesides
ٱللَّهِ ۖ
l-lahiAllah
قَالُوا۟
qālūThey say
ضَلُّوا۟
ḍallūThey strayed
عَنَّا
ʿannāfrom us
وَشَهِدُوا۟
washahidūand they (will) testify
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalāagainst
أَنفُسِهِمْ
anfusihimthemselves
أَنَّهُمْ
annahumthat they
كَانُوا۟
kānūwere
كَـٰفِرِينَ
kāfirīnadisbelievers
٣٧
(37)
And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allāh a lie or denies His verses? Those will attain their portion of the decree until, when Our messengers [i.e., angels] come to them to take them in death, they will say, "Where are those you used to invoke besides Allāh?" They will say, "They have departed from us," and will bear witness against themselves that they were disbelievers.

ٱدْخُلُوا۟
ud'khulūEnter
فِىٓ

أُمَمٍۢ
umamin(the) nations
قَدْ
qad(who)
خَلَتْ
khalatpassed away
مِن
minfrom
قَبْلِكُم
qablikumbefore you
مِّنَ
minaof
ٱلْجِنِّ
l-jinithe jinn
وَٱلْإِنسِ
wal-insiand the men
فِى
in
ٱلنَّارِ ۖ
l-nārithe Fire
كُلَّمَا
kullamāEvery time
دَخَلَتْ
dakhalatentered
أُمَّةٌۭ
ummatuna nation
لَّعَنَتْ
laʿanatit cursed
أُخْتَهَا ۖ
ukh'tahāits sister (nation)
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattāuntil
إِذَا
idhāwhen
ٱدَّارَكُوا۟
iddārakūthey had overtaken one another
فِيهَا
fīhāin it
جَمِيعًۭا
jamīʿanall
قَالَتْ
qālat(will) say
أُخْرَىٰهُمْ
ukh'rāhum(the) last of them
لِأُولَىٰهُمْ
liūlāhumabout the first of them
رَبَّنَا
rabbanāOur Lord
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ
hāulāithese
أَضَلُّونَا
aḍallūnāmisled us
فَـَٔاتِهِمْ
faātihimso give them
عَذَابًۭا
ʿadhābanpunishment
ضِعْفًۭا
ḍiʿ'fandouble
مِّنَ
minaof
ٱلنَّارِ ۖ
l-nārithe Fire
قَالَ
qālaHe (will) say
لِكُلٍّۢ
likullinFor each
ضِعْفٌۭ
ḍiʿ'fun(is) a double
وَلَـٰكِن
walākin[and] but
لَّا
not
تَعْلَمُونَ
taʿlamūnayou know
٣٨
(38)
[Allāh] will say, "Enter among nations which had passed on before you of jinn and mankind into the Fire." Every time a nation enters, it will curse its sister until, when they have all overtaken one another therein, the last of them will say about the first of them, "Our Lord, these had misled us, so give them a double punishment of the Fire." He will say, "For each is double, but you do not know."

وَقَالَتْ
waqālatAnd (will) say
أُولَىٰهُمْ
ūlāhum(the) first of them
لِأُخْرَىٰهُمْ
li-ukh'rāhumto (the) last of them
فَمَا
famāThen not
كَانَ
kānais
لَكُمْ
lakumfor you
عَلَيْنَا
ʿalaynāupon us
مِن
minany
فَضْلٍۢ
faḍlinsuperiority
فَذُوقُوا۟
fadhūqūso taste
ٱلْعَذَابَ
l-ʿadhābathe punishment
بِمَا
bimāfor what
كُنتُمْ
kuntumyou used to
تَكْسِبُونَ
taksibūnaearn
٣٩
(39)
And the first of them will say to the last of them, "Then you had not any favor over us, so taste the punishment for what you used to earn."

إِنَّ

ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَذَّبُوا۟
kadhabūdenied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا
biāyātināOur Verses
وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟
wa-is'takbarūand (were) arrogant
عَنْهَا
ʿanhātowards them
لَا
(will) not
تُفَتَّحُ
tufattaḥube opened
لَهُمْ
lahumfor them
أَبْوَٰبُ
abwābu(the) doors
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāi(of) the heaven
وَلَا
walāand not
يَدْخُلُونَ
yadkhulūnathey will enter
ٱلْجَنَّةَ
l-janataParadise
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattāuntil
يَلِجَ
yalijapasses
ٱلْجَمَلُ
l-jamaluthe camel
فِى
through
سَمِّ
sammi(the) eye
ٱلْخِيَاطِ ۚ
l-khiyāṭi(of) the needle
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālikaAnd thus
نَجْزِى
najzīWe recompense
ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
l-muj'rimīnathe criminals
٤٠
(40)
Indeed, those who deny Our verses and are arrogant toward them - the gates of Heaven will not be opened for them, nor will they enter Paradise until a camel enters into the eye of a needle [i.e., never]. And thus do We recompense the criminals.

lahumFor them
مِّن

جَهَنَّمَ
jahannama(the) Hell
مِهَادٌۭ
mihādun(is) a bed
وَمِن
waminand from
فَوْقِهِمْ
fawqihimover them
غَوَاشٍۢ ۚ
ghawāshincoverings
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālikaAnd thus
نَجْزِى
najzīWe recompense
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
٤١
(41)
They will have from Hell a bed and over them coverings [of fire]. And thus do We recompense the wrongdoers.

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaBut those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟
waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
l-ṣāliḥāti[the] righteous deeds
لَا
not
نُكَلِّفُ
nukallifuWe burden
نَفْسًا
nafsanany soul
إِلَّا
illāexcept
وُسْعَهَآ
wus'ʿahā(to) its capacity
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāikaThose
أَصْحَـٰبُ
aṣḥābu(are the) companions
ٱلْجَنَّةِ ۖ
l-janati(of) Paradise
هُمْ
humthey
فِيهَا
fīhāin it
خَـٰلِدُونَ
khālidūna(will) abide forever
٤٢
(42)
But those who believed and did righteous deeds - We charge no soul except [within] its capacity. Those are the companions of Paradise; they will abide therein eternally.

وَنَزَعْنَا
wanazaʿnāAnd We will remove
مَا
whatever
فِى
(is) in
صُدُورِهِم
ṣudūrihimtheir breasts
مِّنْ
minof
غِلٍّۢ
ghillinmalice
تَجْرِى
tajrīFlows
مِن
minfrom
تَحْتِهِمُ
taḥtihimuunderneath them
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖ
l-anhāruthe rivers
وَقَالُوا۟
waqālūAnd they will say
ٱلْحَمْدُ
l-ḥamduAll the praise
لِلَّهِ
lillahi(is) for Allah
ٱلَّذِى
alladhīthe One Who
هَدَىٰنَا
hadānāguided us
لِهَـٰذَا
lihādhāto this
وَمَا
wamāand not
كُنَّا
kunnāwe were
لِنَهْتَدِىَ
linahtadiyato receive guidance
لَوْلَآ
lawlāif not
أَنْ
an[that]
هَدَىٰنَا
hadānā(had) guided us
ٱللَّهُ ۖ
l-lahuAllah
لَقَدْ
laqadCertainly
جَآءَتْ
jāatcame
رُسُلُ
rusuluMessengers
رَبِّنَا
rabbinā(of) our Lord
بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ
bil-ḥaqiwith the truth
وَنُودُوٓا۟
wanūdūAnd they will be addressed
أَن
an[that]
تِلْكُمُ
til'kumuThis
ٱلْجَنَّةُ
l-janatu(is) Paradise
أُورِثْتُمُوهَا
ūrith'tumūhāyou have been made to inherit it
بِمَا
bimāfor what
كُنتُمْ
kuntumyou used to
تَعْمَلُونَ
taʿmalūnado
٤٣
(43)
And We will have removed whatever is within their breasts of resentment, [while] flowing beneath them are rivers. And they will say, "Praise to Allāh, who has guided us to this; and we would never have been guided if Allāh had not guided us. Certainly the messengers of our Lord had come with the truth." And they will be called, "This is Paradise, which you have been made to inherit for what you used to do."

وَنَادَىٰٓ
wanādāAnd will call out
أَصْحَـٰبُ
aṣḥābu(the) companions
ٱلْجَنَّةِ
l-janati(of) Paradise
أَصْحَـٰبَ
aṣḥāba(to the) companions
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri(of) the Fire
أَن
anthat
قَدْ
qadIndeed
وَجَدْنَا
wajadnāwe found
مَا
what
وَعَدَنَا
waʿadanā(had) promised us
رَبُّنَا
rabbunāour Lord
حَقًّۭا
ḥaqqantrue
فَهَلْ
fahalSo have
وَجَدتُّم
wajadttumyou found
مَّا
what
وَعَدَ
waʿada(was) promised
رَبُّكُمْ
rabbukum(by) your Lord
حَقًّۭا ۖ
ḥaqqan(to be) true
قَالُوا۟
qālūThey will say
نَعَمْ ۚ
naʿamYes
فَأَذَّنَ
fa-adhanaThen will announce
مُؤَذِّنٌۢ
mu-adhinunan announcer
بَيْنَهُمْ
baynahumamong them
أَن
an[that]
لَّعْنَةُ
laʿnatu(The) curse
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
عَلَى
ʿalā(is) on
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
٤٤
(44)
And the companions of Paradise will call out to the companions of the Fire, "We have already found what our Lord promised us to be true. Have you found what your Lord promised to be true?" They will say, "Yes." Then an announcer will announce among them, "The curse of Allāh shall be upon the wrongdoers

ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnaThose who
يَصُدُّونَ
yaṣuddūnahinder
عَن
ʿanfrom
سَبِيلِ
sabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
وَيَبْغُونَهَا
wayabghūnahāand seek in it
عِوَجًۭا
ʿiwajancrookedness
وَهُم
wahumwhile they (are)
بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
bil-ākhiraticoncerning the Hereafter
كَـٰفِرُونَ
kāfirūnadisbelievers
٤٥
(45)
Who averted [people] from the way of Allāh and sought to make it [seem] deviant while they were, concerning the Hereafter, disbelievers."

وَبَيْنَهُمَا
wabaynahumāAnd between them
حِجَابٌۭ ۚ
ḥijābun(will be) a partition
وَعَلَى
waʿalāand on
ٱلْأَعْرَافِ
l-aʿrāfithe heights
رِجَالٌۭ
rijālun(will be) men
يَعْرِفُونَ
yaʿrifūnarecognizing
كُلًّۢا
kullanall
بِسِيمَىٰهُمْ ۚ
bisīmāhumby their marks
وَنَادَوْا۟
wanādawAnd they will call out
أَصْحَـٰبَ
aṣḥāba(to the) companions
ٱلْجَنَّةِ
l-janati(of) Paradise
أَن
anthat
سَلَـٰمٌ
salāmunPeace
عَلَيْكُمْ ۚ
ʿalaykum(be) upon you
لَمْ
lamNot
يَدْخُلُوهَا
yadkhulūhāthey have entered it
وَهُمْ
wahumbut they
يَطْمَعُونَ
yaṭmaʿūnahope
٤٦
(46)
And between them will be a partition [i.e., wall], and on [its] elevations are men who recognize all by their mark. And they call out to the companions of Paradise, "Peace be upon you." They have not [yet] entered it, but they long intensely.

۞ وَإِذَا
wa-idhāAnd when
صُرِفَتْ
ṣurifatare turned
أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ
abṣāruhumtheir eyes
تِلْقَآءَ
til'qāatowards
أَصْحَـٰبِ
aṣḥābi(the) companions
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri(of) the Fire
قَالُوا۟
qālūthey (will) say
رَبَّنَا
rabbanāOur Lord
لَا
(Do) not
تَجْعَلْنَا
tajʿalnāplace us
مَعَ
maʿawith
ٱلْقَوْمِ
l-qawmithe people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
٤٧
(47)
And when their eyes are turned toward the companions of the Fire, they say, "Our Lord, do not place us with the wrongdoing people."

وَنَادَىٰٓ
wanādāAnd (will) call out
أَصْحَـٰبُ
aṣḥābu(the) companions
ٱلْأَعْرَافِ
l-aʿrāfi(of) the heights
رِجَالًۭا
rijālan(to) men
يَعْرِفُونَهُم
yaʿrifūnahumwhom they recognize
بِسِيمَىٰهُمْ
bisīmāhumby their marks
قَالُوا۟
qālūsaying
مَآ
Not
أَغْنَىٰ
aghnā(has) availed
عَنكُمْ
ʿankum[to] you
جَمْعُكُمْ
jamʿukumyour gathering
وَمَا
wamāand what
كُنتُمْ
kuntumyou were
تَسْتَكْبِرُونَ
tastakbirūnaarrogant (about)
٤٨
(48)
And the companions of the Elevations will call to men [within Hell] whom they recognize by their mark, saying, "Of no avail to you was your gathering and [the fact] that you were arrogant."

أَهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ
ahāulāiAre these
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathe ones whom
أَقْسَمْتُمْ
aqsamtumyou had sworn
لَا
(that) not
يَنَالُهُمُ
yanāluhumu(will) grant them
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
بِرَحْمَةٍ ۚ
biraḥmatinMercy
ٱدْخُلُوا۟
ud'khulūEnter
ٱلْجَنَّةَ
l-janataParadise
لَا
(There will be) no
خَوْفٌ
khawfunfear
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykumupon you
وَلَآ
walāand not
أَنتُمْ
antumyou
تَحْزَنُونَ
taḥzanūnawill grieve
٤٩
(49)
[Allāh will say], "Are these the ones whom you [inhabitants of Hell] swore that Allāh would never offer them mercy? Enter Paradise, [O people of the Elevations]. No fear will there be concerning you, nor will you grieve."

wanādāAnd (will) call out
أَصْحَـٰبُ
aṣḥābu(the) companions
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri(of) the Fire
أَصْحَـٰبَ
aṣḥāba(to the) companions
ٱلْجَنَّةِ
l-janati(of) Paradise
أَنْ
an[that]
أَفِيضُوا۟
afīḍūPour
عَلَيْنَا
ʿalaynāupon us
مِنَ
mina[of]
ٱلْمَآءِ
l-māi(some) water
أَوْ
awor
مِمَّا
mimmāof what
رَزَقَكُمُ
razaqakumu(has been) provided (to) you
ٱللَّهُ ۚ
l-lahu(by) Allah
قَالُوٓا۟
qālūThey (will) say
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
حَرَّمَهُمَا
ḥarramahumāhas forbidden both
عَلَى
ʿalāto
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
l-kāfirīnathe disbelievers
٥٠
(50)
And the companions of the Fire will call to the companions of Paradise, "Pour upon us some water or from whatever Allāh has provided you." They will say, "Indeed, Allāh has forbidden them both to the disbelievers

ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnaThose who
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟
ittakhadhūtook
دِينَهُمْ
dīnahumtheir religion
لَهْوًۭا
lahwan(as) an amusement
وَلَعِبًۭا
walaʿibanand play
وَغَرَّتْهُمُ
wagharrathumuand deluded them
ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ
l-ḥayatuthe life
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ
l-dun'yā(of) the world
فَٱلْيَوْمَ
fal-yawmaSo today
نَنسَىٰهُمْ
nansāhumWe forget them
كَمَا
kamāas
نَسُوا۟
nasūthey forgot
لِقَآءَ
liqāa(the) meeting
يَوْمِهِمْ
yawmihim(of) their day
هَـٰذَا
hādhāthis
وَمَا
wamāand [what]
كَانُوا۟
kānū(as) they used to
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا
biāyātināwith Our Verses
يَجْحَدُونَ
yajḥadūnathey reject
٥١
(51)
Who took their religion as distraction and amusement and whom the worldly life deluded." So today We will forget them just as they forgot the meeting of this Day of theirs and for having rejected Our verses.

وَلَقَدْ
walaqadAnd certainly
جِئْنَـٰهُم
ji'nāhumWe had brought them
بِكِتَـٰبٍۢ
bikitābina Book
فَصَّلْنَـٰهُ
faṣṣalnāhuwhich We have explained
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāwith
عِلْمٍ
ʿil'minknowledge
هُدًۭى
hudanas guidance
وَرَحْمَةًۭ
waraḥmatanand mercy
لِّقَوْمٍۢ
liqawminfor a people
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūnawho believe
٥٢
(52)
And We had certainly brought them a Book which We detailed by knowledge - as guidance and mercy to a people who believe.

yanẓurūnathey wait
إِلَّا
illāexcept
تَأْوِيلَهُۥ ۚ
tawīlahu(for) its fulfillment
يَوْمَ
yawma(The) Day
يَأْتِى
yatī(will) come
تَأْوِيلُهُۥ
tawīluhuits fulfillment
يَقُولُ
yaqūluwill say
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
نَسُوهُ
nasūhuhad forgotten it
مِن
minfrom
قَبْلُ
qablubefore
قَدْ
qadVerily
جَآءَتْ
jāathad come
رُسُلُ
rusulu(the) Messengers
رَبِّنَا
rabbinā(of) our Lord
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqiwith the truth
فَهَل
fahalso are (there)
لَّنَا
lanāfor us
مِن
minany
شُفَعَآءَ
shufaʿāaintercessors
فَيَشْفَعُوا۟
fayashfaʿūso (that) they intercede
لَنَآ
lanāfor us
أَوْ
awor
نُرَدُّ
nuradduwe are sent back
فَنَعْمَلَ
fanaʿmalaso (that) we do (deeds)
غَيْرَ
ghayraother than
ٱلَّذِى
alladhīthat which
كُنَّا
kunnāwe used to
نَعْمَلُ ۚ
naʿmaludo
قَدْ
qadVerily
خَسِرُوٓا۟
khasirūthey lost
أَنفُسَهُمْ
anfusahumthemselves
وَضَلَّ
waḍallaand strayed
عَنْهُم
ʿanhumfrom them
مَّا
what
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey used to
يَفْتَرُونَ
yaftarūnainvent
٥٣
(53)
Do they await except its result? The Day its result comes, those who had ignored it before will say, "The messengers of our Lord had come with the truth, so are there [now] any intercessors to intercede for us or could we be sent back to do other than what we used to do?" They will have lost themselves, and lost from them is what they used to invent.

ٱلَّذِى

خَلَقَ
khalaqacreated
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَ
wal-arḍaand the earth
فِى
in
سِتَّةِ
sittatisix
أَيَّامٍۢ
ayyāminepochs
ثُمَّ
thummathen
ٱسْتَوَىٰ
is'tawāHe ascended
عَلَى
ʿalāon
ٱلْعَرْشِ
l-ʿarshithe Throne
يُغْشِى
yugh'shīHe covers
ٱلَّيْلَ
al-laylathe night
ٱلنَّهَارَ
l-nahāra(with) the day
يَطْلُبُهُۥ
yaṭlubuhuseeking it
حَثِيثًۭا
ḥathīthanrapidly
وَٱلشَّمْسَ
wal-shamsaand the sun
وَٱلْقَمَرَ
wal-qamaraand the moon
وَٱلنُّجُومَ
wal-nujūmaand the stars
مُسَخَّرَٰتٍۭ
musakharātinsubjected
بِأَمْرِهِۦٓ ۗ
bi-amrihiby His command
أَلَا
alāUnquestionably
لَهُ
lahufor Him
ٱلْخَلْقُ
l-khalqu(is) the creation
وَٱلْأَمْرُ ۗ
wal-amruand the command
تَبَارَكَ
tabārakablessed
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu(is) Allah
رَبُّ
rabbuLord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
l-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds
٥٤
(54)
Indeed, your Lord is Allāh, who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne. He covers the night with the day, [another night] chasing it rapidly; and [He created] the sun, the moon, and the stars, subjected by His command. Unquestionably, His is the creation and the command; blessed is Allāh, Lord of the worlds.

ٱدْعُوا۟
id'ʿūCall upon
رَبَّكُمْ
rabbakumyour Lord
تَضَرُّعًۭا
taḍarruʿanhumbly
وَخُفْيَةً ۚ
wakhuf'yatanand privately
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, He
لَا
(does) not
يُحِبُّ
yuḥibbulove
ٱلْمُعْتَدِينَ
l-muʿ'tadīnathe transgressors
٥٥
(55)
Call upon your Lord in humility and privately; indeed, He does not like transgressors.

walāAnd (do) not
تُفْسِدُوا۟
tuf'sidūcause corruption
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
بَعْدَ
baʿdaafter
إِصْلَـٰحِهَا
iṣ'lāḥihāits reformation
وَٱدْعُوهُ
wa-id'ʿūhuAnd call Him
خَوْفًۭا
khawfan(in) fear
وَطَمَعًا ۚ
waṭamaʿanand hope
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
رَحْمَتَ
raḥmata(the) Mercy
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
قَرِيبٌۭ
qarībun(is) near
مِّنَ
minafor
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
l-muḥ'sinīnathe good-doers
٥٦
(56)
And cause not corruption upon the earth after its reformation. And invoke Him in fear and aspiration. Indeed, the mercy of Allāh is near to the doers of good.

وَهُوَ
wahuwaAnd He
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī(is) the One Who
يُرْسِلُ
yur'silusends
ٱلرِّيَـٰحَ
l-riyāḥathe winds
بُشْرًۢا
bush'ran(as) glad tidings
بَيْنَ
baynafrom
يَدَىْ
yadaybefore
رَحْمَتِهِۦ ۖ
raḥmatihiHis Mercy
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattāuntil
إِذَآ
idhāwhen
أَقَلَّتْ
aqallatthey have carried
سَحَابًۭا
saḥābanclouds
ثِقَالًۭا
thiqālanheavy
سُقْنَـٰهُ
suq'nāhuWe drive them
لِبَلَدٍۢ
libaladinto a land
مَّيِّتٍۢ
mayyitindead
فَأَنزَلْنَا
fa-anzalnāthen We send down
بِهِ
bihifrom it
ٱلْمَآءَ
l-māathe water
فَأَخْرَجْنَا
fa-akhrajnāthen We bring forth
بِهِۦ
bihifrom it
مِن
min(of)
كُلِّ
kulliall (kinds)
ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ ۚ
l-thamarāti(of) fruits
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālikaThus
نُخْرِجُ
nukh'rijuWe will bring forth
ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ
l-mawtāthe dead
لَعَلَّكُمْ
laʿallakumso that you may
تَذَكَّرُونَ
tadhakkarūnatake heed
٥٧
(57)
And it is He who sends the winds as good tidings before His mercy [i.e., rainfall] until, when they have carried heavy rainclouds, We drive them to a dead land and We send down rain therein and bring forth thereby [some] of all the fruits. Thus will We bring forth the dead; perhaps you may be reminded.

وَٱلْبَلَدُ
wal-baladuAnd the land
ٱلطَّيِّبُ
l-ṭayibu[the] pure
يَخْرُجُ
yakhrujucomes forth
نَبَاتُهُۥ
nabātuhuits vegetation
بِإِذْنِ
bi-idh'niby (the) permission
رَبِّهِۦ ۖ
rabbihi(of) its Lord
وَٱلَّذِى
wa-alladhībut which
خَبُثَ
khabuthais bad
لَا
(does) not
يَخْرُجُ
yakhrujucome forth
إِلَّا
illāexcept
نَكِدًۭا ۚ
nakidan(with) difficulty
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālikaThus
نُصَرِّفُ
nuṣarrifuWe explain
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ
l-āyātithe Signs
لِقَوْمٍۢ
liqawminfor a people
يَشْكُرُونَ
yashkurūnawho are grateful
٥٨
(58)
And the good land - its vegetation emerges by permission of its Lord; but that which is bad - nothing emerges except sparsely, with difficulty. Thus do We diversify the signs for a people who are grateful.

إِلَىٰ

قَوْمِهِۦ

فَقَالَ
faqālaand he said
يَـٰقَوْمِ
yāqawmiO my people
ٱعْبُدُوا۟
uʿ'budūWorship
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
مَا
not
لَكُم
lakumfor you
مِّنْ
minany
إِلَـٰهٍ
ilāhingod
غَيْرُهُۥٓ
ghayruhuother than Him
إِنِّىٓ
innīIndeed, I
أَخَافُ
akhāfu[I] fear
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykumfor you
عَذَابَ
ʿadhābapunishment
يَوْمٍ
yawmin(of the) Day
عَظِيمٍۢ
ʿaẓīminGreat
٥٩
(59)
We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him. Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous Day."

قَوْمِهِۦٓ

لَنَرَىٰكَ

ضَلَـٰلٍۢ
ḍalālinerror
مُّبِينٍۢ
mubīninclear

(60)
Said the eminent among his people, "Indeed, we see you in clear error."

qālaHe said
يَـٰقَوْمِ
yāqawmiO my people
لَيْسَ
laysaThere is not
بِى
in me
ضَلَـٰلَةٌۭ
ḍalālatunerror
وَلَـٰكِنِّى
walākinnībut I am
رَسُولٌۭ
rasūluna Messenger
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّ
rabbi(the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
l-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds
٦١
(61)
[Noah] said, "O my people, there is not error in me, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.

أُبَلِّغُكُمْ
uballighukumI convey to you
رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ
risālātithe Messages
رَبِّى
rabbī(of) my Lord
وَأَنصَحُ
wa-anṣaḥuand [I] advise
لَكُمْ
lakum[to] you
وَأَعْلَمُ
wa-aʿlamuand I know
مِنَ
minafrom
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
مَا
what
لَا
not
تَعْلَمُونَ
taʿlamūnayou know
٦٢
(62)
I convey to you the messages of my Lord and advise you; and I know from Allāh what you do not know.

أَوَعَجِبْتُمْ
awaʿajib'tumDo you wonder
أَن
anthat
جَآءَكُمْ
jāakumhas come to you
ذِكْرٌۭ
dhik'runa reminder
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّكُمْ
rabbikumyour Lord
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāon
رَجُلٍۢ
rajulina man
مِّنكُمْ
minkumamong you
لِيُنذِرَكُمْ
liyundhirakumthat he may warn you
وَلِتَتَّقُوا۟
walitattaqūand that you may fear
وَلَعَلَّكُمْ
walaʿallakumand so that you may
تُرْحَمُونَ
tur'ḥamūnareceive mercy
٦٣
(63)
Then do you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man from among you, that he may warn you and that you may fear Allāh so you might receive mercy?"

فَكَذَّبُوهُ
fakadhabūhuBut they denied him
فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُ
fa-anjaynāhuso We saved him
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaand those who
مَعَهُۥ
maʿahu(were) with him
فِى
in
ٱلْفُلْكِ
l-ful'kithe ship
وَأَغْرَقْنَا
wa-aghraqnāAnd We drowned
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَذَّبُوا۟
kadhabūdenied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ ۚ
biāyātināOur Verses
إِنَّهُمْ
innahumIndeed, they
كَانُوا۟
kānūwere
قَوْمًا
qawmana people
عَمِينَ
ʿamīnablind
٦٤
(64)
But they denied him, so We saved him and those who were with him in the ship. And We drowned those who denied Our signs. Indeed, they were a blind people.

۞ وَإِلَىٰ
wa-ilāAnd to
عَادٍ
ʿādinAad
أَخَاهُمْ
akhāhum(We sent) their brother
هُودًۭا ۗ
hūdanHud
قَالَ
qālaHe said
يَـٰقَوْمِ
yāqawmiO my people
ٱعْبُدُوا۟
uʿ'budūWorship
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
مَا
not
لَكُم
lakumfor you
مِّنْ
minany
إِلَـٰهٍ
ilāhingod
غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۚ
ghayruhuother than Him
أَفَلَا
afalāThen will not
تَتَّقُونَ
tattaqūnayou fear (Allah)
٦٥
(65)
And to the ʿAad [We sent] their brother Hūd. He said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him. Then will you not fear Him?"

ٱلْمَلَأُ
l-mala-uthe chiefs
ٱلَّذِينَ

كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieved
مِن
minfrom
قَوْمِهِۦٓ
qawmihihis people
إِنَّا
innāIndeed, we
لَنَرَىٰكَ
lanarākasurely, see you
فِى
in
سَفَاهَةٍۢ
safāhatinfoolishness
وَإِنَّا
wa-innāand indeed, we
لَنَظُنُّكَ
lanaẓunnuka[we] think you
مِنَ
mina(are) of
ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ
l-kādhibīnathe liars
٦٦
(66)
Said the eminent ones who disbelieved among his people, "Indeed, we see you in foolishness, and indeed, we think you are of the liars."

يَـٰقَوْمِ
yāqawmiO my people
لَيْسَ
laysaThere is not
بِى
in me
سَفَاهَةٌۭ
safāhatunfoolishness
وَلَـٰكِنِّى
walākinnībut I am
رَسُولٌۭ
rasūluna Messenger
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّ
rabbi(the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
l-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds
٦٧
(67)
[Hūd] said, "O my people, there is not foolishness in me, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.

أُبَلِّغُكُمْ
uballighukumI convey to you
رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ
risālātiMessages
رَبِّى
rabbī(of) my Lord
وَأَنَا۠
wa-anāand I am
لَكُمْ

نَاصِحٌ
nāṣiḥunan adviser
أَمِينٌ
amīnuntrustworthy
٦٨
(68)
I convey to you the messages of my Lord, and I am to you a trustworthy adviser.

مِنۢ

بَعْدِ
baʿdiafter
قَوْمِ
qawmi(the) people
نُوحٍۢ
nūḥin(of) Nuh
وَزَادَكُمْ
wazādakumand increased you
فِى
in
ٱلْخَلْقِ
l-khalqithe stature
بَصْۜطَةًۭ ۖ
baṣ'ṭatanextensively
فَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟
fa-udh'kurūSo remember
ءَالَآءَ
ālāa(the) Bounties
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
لَعَلَّكُمْ
laʿallakumso that you may
تُفْلِحُونَ
tuf'liḥūnasucceed
٦٩
(69)
Then do you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man from among you, that he may warn you? And remember when He made you successors after the people of Noah and increased you in stature extensively. So remember the favors of Allāh that you might succeed."

qālūThey said
أَجِئْتَنَا
aji'tanāHave you come to us
لِنَعْبُدَ
linaʿbudathat we (should) worship
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
وَحْدَهُۥ
waḥdahuAlone
وَنَذَرَ
wanadharaand we forsake
مَا
what
كَانَ
kānaused to
يَعْبُدُ
yaʿbuduworship
ءَابَآؤُنَا ۖ
ābāunāour forefathers
فَأْتِنَا
fatināThen bring us
بِمَا
bimāof what
تَعِدُنَآ
taʿidunāyou promise us
إِن
inif
كُنتَ
kuntayou are
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ
l-ṣādiqīnathe truthful
٧٠
(70)
They said, "Have you come to us that we should worship Allāh alone and leave what our fathers have worshipped? Then bring us what you promise us, if you should be of the truthful."

قَدْ

وَقَعَ
waqaʿahas fallen
عَلَيْكُم
ʿalaykumupon you
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّكُمْ
rabbikumyour Lord
رِجْسٌۭ
rij'sunpunishment
وَغَضَبٌ ۖ
waghaḍabunand anger
أَتُجَـٰدِلُونَنِى
atujādilūnanīDo you dispute with me
فِىٓ
concerning
أَسْمَآءٍۢ
asmāinnames
سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ
sammaytumūhāyou have named them
أَنتُمْ
antumyou
وَءَابَآؤُكُم
waābāukumand your forefathers
مَّا
Not
نَزَّلَ
nazzala(has been) sent down
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu(by) Allah
بِهَا
bihāfor it
مِن
minany
سُلْطَـٰنٍۢ ۚ
sul'ṭāninauthority
فَٱنتَظِرُوٓا۟
fa-intaẓirūThen wait
إِنِّى
innīindeed, I am
مَعَكُم
maʿakumwith you
مِّنَ
minaof
ٱلْمُنتَظِرِينَ
l-muntaẓirīnathe ones who wait
٧١
(71)
[Hūd] said, "Already have defilement and anger fallen upon you from your Lord. Do you dispute with me concerning [mere] names you have named them, you and your fathers, for which Allāh has not sent down any authority? Then wait; indeed, I am with you among those who wait."

فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُ
fa-anjaynāhuSo We saved him
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaand those
مَعَهُۥ
maʿahuwith him
بِرَحْمَةٍۢ
biraḥmatinby Mercy
مِّنَّا
minnāfrom Us
وَقَطَعْنَا
waqaṭaʿnāAnd We cut off
دَابِرَ
dābirathe roots
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna(of) those who
كَذَّبُوا۟
kadhabūdenied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا ۖ
biāyātināOur Signs
وَمَا
wamāand not
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey were
مُؤْمِنِينَ
mu'minīnabelievers
٧٢
(72)
So We saved him and those with him by mercy from Us. And We eliminated those who denied Our signs, and they were not [at all] believers.

وَإِلَىٰ
wa-ilāAnd to
ثَمُودَ
thamūdaThamud
أَخَاهُمْ
akhāhum(We sent) their brother
صَـٰلِحًۭا ۗ
ṣāliḥanSalih
قَالَ
qālaHe said
يَـٰقَوْمِ
yāqawmiO my people
ٱعْبُدُوا۟
uʿ'budūWorship
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
مَا
not
لَكُم
lakumfor you
مِّنْ
minany
إِلَـٰهٍ
ilāhingod
غَيْرُهُۥ ۖ
ghayruhuother than Him
قَدْ
qadVerily
جَآءَتْكُم
jāatkumhas come to you
بَيِّنَةٌۭ
bayyinatuna clear proof
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ
rabbikumyour Lord
هَـٰذِهِۦ
hādhihiThis
نَاقَةُ
nāqatu(is) a she-camel
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
لَكُمْ
lakum(it is) for you
ءَايَةًۭ ۖ
āyatana Sign
فَذَرُوهَا
fadharūhāSo you leave her
تَأْكُلْ
takul(to) eat
فِىٓ
on
أَرْضِ
arḍi(the) earth
ٱللَّهِ ۖ
l-lahi(of) Allah
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تَمَسُّوهَا
tamassūhātouch her
بِسُوٓءٍۢ
bisūinwith harm
فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ
fayakhudhakumlest seizes you
عَذَابٌ
ʿadhābuna punishment
أَلِيمٌۭ
alīmunpainful
٧٣
(73)
And to the Thamūd [We sent] their brother Ṣāliḥ. He said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him. There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord. This is the she-camel of Allāh [sent] to you as a sign. So leave her to eat within Allāh's land and do not touch her with harm, lest there seize you a painful punishment.

وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟
wa-udh'kurūAnd remember
إِذْ

جَعَلَكُمْ

خُلَفَآءَ

مِنۢ

baʿdiafter
عَادٍۢ
ʿādinAad
وَبَوَّأَكُمْ
wabawwa-akumand settled you
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
تَتَّخِذُونَ
tattakhidhūnaYou take
مِن
minfrom
سُهُولِهَا
suhūlihāits plains
قُصُورًۭا
quṣūranpalaces
وَتَنْحِتُونَ
watanḥitūnaand you carve out
ٱلْجِبَالَ
l-jibālathe mountains
بُيُوتًۭا ۖ
buyūtan(as) homes
فَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟
fa-udh'kurūSo remember
ءَالَآءَ
ālāa(the) Bounties
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تَعْثَوْا۟
taʿthawact wickedly
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi(the) earth
مُفْسِدِينَ
muf'sidīnaspreading corruption
٧٤
(74)
And remember when He made you successors after the ʿAad and settled you in the land, [and] you take for yourselves palaces from its plains and carve from the mountains, homes. Then remember the favors of Allāh and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption."

ٱلْمَلَأُ
l-mala-uthe chiefs
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna those
ٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟
is'takbarū(who) were arrogant
مِن
minamong
قَوْمِهِۦ
qawmihihis people
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhīnato those who
ٱسْتُضْعِفُوا۟
us'tuḍ'ʿifūwere oppressed
لِمَنْ
liman[to] those who
ءَامَنَ
āmanabelieved
مِنْهُمْ
min'humamong them
أَتَعْلَمُونَ
ataʿlamūnaDo you know
أَنَّ
annathat
صَـٰلِحًۭا
ṣāliḥanSalih
مُّرْسَلٌۭ
mur'salun(is the) one sent
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّهِۦ ۚ
rabbihihis Lord
قَالُوٓا۟
qālūThey said
إِنَّا
innāIndeed, we
بِمَآ
bimāin what
أُرْسِلَ
ur'silahe has been sent
بِهِۦ
bihiwith [it]
مُؤْمِنُونَ
mu'minūna(are) believers
٧٥
(75)
Said the eminent ones who were arrogant among his people to those who were oppressed - to those who believed among them, "Do you [actually] know that Ṣāliḥ is sent from his Lord?" They said, "Indeed we, in that with which he was sent, are believers."

ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
ٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟
is'takbarūwere arrogant
إِنَّا
innāIndeed we
بِٱلَّذِىٓ
bi-alladhīin that which
ءَامَنتُم
āmantumyou believe
بِهِۦ
bihiin it
كَـٰفِرُونَ
kāfirūna(are) disbelievers
٧٦
(76)
Said those who were arrogant, "Indeed we, in that which you have believed, are disbelievers."

فَعَقَرُوا۟
faʿaqarūThen they hamstrung
ٱلنَّاقَةَ
l-nāqatathe she-camel
وَعَتَوْا۟
waʿatawand (were) insolent
عَنْ
ʿantowards
أَمْرِ
amri(the) command
رَبِّهِمْ
rabbihim(of) their Lord
وَقَالُوا۟
waqālūand they said
يَـٰصَـٰلِحُ
yāṣāliḥuO Salih
ٱئْتِنَا
i'tināBring us
بِمَا
bimāwhat
تَعِدُنَآ
taʿidunāyou promise us
إِن
inif
كُنتَ
kuntayou are
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
l-mur'salīnathe Messengers
٧٧
(77)
So they hamstrung the she-camel and were insolent toward the command of their Lord and said, "O Ṣāliḥ, bring us what you promise us, if you should be of the messengers."

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ
fa-akhadhathumuSo seized them
ٱلرَّجْفَةُ
l-rajfatuthe earthquake
فَأَصْبَحُوا۟
fa-aṣbaḥūthen they became
فِى
in
دَارِهِمْ
dārihimtheir homes
جَـٰثِمِينَ
jāthimīnafallen prone
٧٨
(78)
So the earthquake seized them, and they became within their home [corpses] fallen prone.

فَتَوَلَّىٰ
fatawallāSo he turned away
عَنْهُمْ
ʿanhumfrom them
وَقَالَ
waqālaand he said
يَـٰقَوْمِ
yāqawmiO my people
لَقَدْ
laqadVerily
أَبْلَغْتُكُمْ
ablaghtukumI have conveyed to you
رِسَالَةَ
risālata(the) Message
رَبِّى
rabbī(of) my Lord
وَنَصَحْتُ
wanaṣaḥtuand [I] advised
لَكُمْ
lakum[to] you
وَلَـٰكِن
walākinbut
لَّا
not
تُحِبُّونَ
tuḥibbūnayou like
ٱلنَّـٰصِحِينَ
l-nāṣiḥīnathe advisers
٧٩
(79)
And he [i.e., Ṣāliḥ] turned away from them and said, "O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the message of my Lord and advised you, but you do not like advisors."

وَلُوطًا
walūṭanAnd Lut
إِذْ
idhwhen
قَالَ
qālahe said
لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ
liqawmihito his people
أَتَأْتُونَ
atatūnaDo you commit
ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةَ
l-fāḥishata(such) immorality
مَا
not
سَبَقَكُم
sabaqakumhas preceded you
بِهَا
bihātherein
مِنْ
minany
أَحَدٍۢ
aḥadinone
مِّنَ
minaof
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
l-ʿālamīnathe worlds
٨٠
(80)
And [We had sent] Lot when he said to his people, "Do you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds [i.e., peoples]?

إِنَّكُمْ
innakumIndeed, you
لَتَأْتُونَ
latatūnayou approach
ٱلرِّجَالَ
l-rijālathe men
شَهْوَةًۭ
shahwatanlustfully
مِّن
minfrom
دُونِ
dūniinstead of
ٱلنِّسَآءِ ۚ
l-nisāithe women
بَلْ
balNay
أَنتُمْ
antumyou
قَوْمٌۭ
qawmun(are) a people
مُّسْرِفُونَ
mus'rifūna(who) commit excesses
٨١
(81)
Indeed, you approach men with desire, instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people."

وَمَا
wamāAnd not
كَانَ
kānawas
جَوَابَ
jawāba(the) answer
قَوْمِهِۦٓ
qawmihi(of) his people
إِلَّآ
illāexcept
أَن
anthat
قَالُوٓا۟
qālūthey said
أَخْرِجُوهُم
akhrijūhumDrive them out
مِّن
minof
قَرْيَتِكُمْ ۖ
qaryatikumyour town
إِنَّهُمْ
innahumIndeed, they
أُنَاسٌۭ
unāsun(are) people
يَتَطَهَّرُونَ
yataṭahharūnawho keep themselves pure
٨٢
(82)
But the answer of his people was only that they said, "Evict them from your city! Indeed, they are men who keep themselves pure."

فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُ
fa-anjaynāhuSo We saved him
وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ
wa-ahlahuand his family
إِلَّا
illāexcept
ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ
im'ra-atahuhis wife
كَانَتْ
kānatshe was
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ
l-ghābirīnathose who stayed behind
٨٣
(83)
So We saved him and his family, except for his wife; she was of those who remained [with the evildoers].

وَأَمْطَرْنَا
wa-amṭarnāAnd We showered
عَلَيْهِم
ʿalayhimupon them
مَّطَرًۭا ۖ
maṭarana rain
فَٱنظُرْ
fa-unẓurSo see
كَيْفَ
kayfahow
كَانَ
kānawas
عَـٰقِبَةُ
ʿāqibatu(the) end
ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
l-muj'rimīna(of) the criminals
٨٤
(84)
And We rained upon them a rain [of stones]. Then see how was the end of the criminals.

وَإِلَىٰ
wa-ilāAnd to
مَدْيَنَ
madyanaMadyan
أَخَاهُمْ
akhāhumhis brother
شُعَيْبًۭا ۗ
shuʿaybanShuaib
قَالَ
qālaHe said
يَـٰقَوْمِ
yāqawmiO my people
ٱعْبُدُوا۟
uʿ'budūWorship
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
مَا
not
لَكُم
lakumfor you
مِّنْ
minany
إِلَـٰهٍ
ilāhingod
غَيْرُهُۥ ۖ
ghayruhuother than Him
قَدْ
qadVerily
جَآءَتْكُم
jāatkumhas came to you
بَيِّنَةٌۭ
bayyinatuna clear proof
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ
rabbikumyour Lord
فَأَوْفُوا۟
fa-awfūSo give full
ٱلْكَيْلَ
l-kayla[the] measure
وَٱلْمِيزَانَ
wal-mīzānaand the weight
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تَبْخَسُوا۟
tabkhasūdeprive
ٱلنَّاسَ
l-nāsa[the] people
أَشْيَآءَهُمْ
ashyāahumin their things
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تُفْسِدُوا۟
tuf'sidūcause corruption
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
بَعْدَ
baʿdaafter
إِصْلَـٰحِهَا ۚ
iṣ'lāḥihāits reformation
ذَٰلِكُمْ
dhālikumThat
خَيْرٌۭ
khayrun(is) better
لَّكُمْ
lakumfor you
إِن
inif
كُنتُم
kuntumyou are
مُّؤْمِنِينَ
mu'minīnabelievers
٨٥
(85)
And to [the people of] Madyan [We sent] their brother Shuʿayb. He said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him. There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord. So fulfill the measure and weight and do not deprive people of their due and cause not corruption upon the earth after its reformation. That is better for you, if you should be believers.

وَلَا
walāAnd (do) not
تَقْعُدُوا۟
taqʿudūsit
بِكُلِّ
bikullion every
صِرَٰطٍۢ
ṣirāṭinpath
تُوعِدُونَ
tūʿidūnathreatening
وَتَصُدُّونَ
wataṣuddūnaand hindering
عَن
ʿanfrom
سَبِيلِ
sabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
مَنْ
man(those) who
ءَامَنَ
āmanabelieve
بِهِۦ
bihiin Him
وَتَبْغُونَهَا
watabghūnahāand seeking (to make) it
عِوَجًۭا ۚ
ʿiwajancrooked
وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟
wa-udh'kurūAnd remember
إِذْ
idhwhen
كُنتُمْ
kuntumyou were
قَلِيلًۭا
qalīlanfew
فَكَثَّرَكُمْ ۖ
fakatharakumand He increased you
وَٱنظُرُوا۟
wa-unẓurūAnd see
كَيْفَ
kayfahow
كَانَ
kānawas
عَـٰقِبَةُ
ʿāqibatu(the) end
ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ
l-muf'sidīna(of) the corrupters
٨٦
(86)
And do not sit on every path, threatening and averting from the way of Allāh those who believe in Him, seeking to make it [seem] deviant. And remember when you were few and He increased you. And see how was the end of the corrupters.

وَإِن
wa-inAnd if
كَانَ
kāna(there) is
طَآئِفَةٌۭ
ṭāifatuna group
مِّنكُمْ
minkumamong you
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū(who has) believed
بِٱلَّذِىٓ
bi-alladhīin that which
أُرْسِلْتُ
ur'sil'tuI have been sent
بِهِۦ
bihiwith [it]
وَطَآئِفَةٌۭ
waṭāifatunand a group
لَّمْ
lamnot
يُؤْمِنُوا۟
yu'minūthey believe
فَٱصْبِرُوا۟
fa-iṣ'birūthen be patient
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattāuntil
يَحْكُمَ
yaḥkumajudges
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
بَيْنَنَا ۚ
baynanābetween us
وَهُوَ
wahuwaAnd He
خَيْرُ
khayru(is the) Best
ٱلْحَـٰكِمِينَ
l-ḥākimīna(of) [the] Judges
٨٧
(87)
And if there should be a group among you who has believed in that with which I have been sent and a group that has not believed, then be patient until Allāh judges between us. And He is the best of judges."

lanukh'rijannakaWe will surely drive you out
يَـٰشُعَيْبُ
yāshuʿaybuO Shuaib
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaAnd those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū(have) believed
مَعَكَ
maʿakawith you
مِن
minfrom
قَرْيَتِنَآ
qaryatināour city
أَوْ
awor
لَتَعُودُنَّ
lataʿūdunnayou must return
فِى
to
مِلَّتِنَا ۚ
millatināour religion
قَالَ
qālaHe said
أَوَلَوْ
awalawEven if
كُنَّا
kunnāwe are
كَـٰرِهِينَ
kārihīna(the) ones who hate (it)
٨٨
(88)
Said the eminent ones who were arrogant among his people, "We will surely evict you, O Shuʿayb, and those who have believed with you from our city, or you must return to our religion." He said, "Even if we were unwilling?

qadiVerily
ٱفْتَرَيْنَا
if'taraynāwe would have fabricated
عَلَى
ʿalāagainst
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
كَذِبًا
kadhibana lie
إِنْ
inif
عُدْنَا
ʿud'nāwe returned
فِى
in
مِلَّتِكُم
millatikumyour religion
بَعْدَ
baʿdaafter
إِذْ
idh[when]
نَجَّىٰنَا
najjānāsaved us
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
مِنْهَا ۚ
min'hāfrom it
وَمَا
wamāAnd not
يَكُونُ
yakūnuit is
لَنَآ
lanāfor us
أَن
anthat
نَّعُودَ
naʿūdawe return
فِيهَآ
fīhāin it
إِلَّآ
illāexcept
أَن
anthat
يَشَآءَ
yashāawills
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
رَبُّنَا ۚ
rabbunāour Lord
وَسِعَ
wasiʿaEncompasses
رَبُّنَا
rabbunā(by) Our Lord
كُلَّ
kullaevery
شَىْءٍ
shayinthing
عِلْمًا ۚ
ʿil'man(in) knowledge
عَلَى
ʿalāUpon
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
تَوَكَّلْنَا ۚ
tawakkalnāwe put our trust
رَبَّنَا
rabbanāOur Lord
ٱفْتَحْ
if'taḥDecide
بَيْنَنَا
baynanābetween us
وَبَيْنَ
wabaynaand between
قَوْمِنَا
qawmināour people
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqiin truth
وَأَنتَ
wa-antaand You
خَيْرُ
khayru(are the) Best
ٱلْفَـٰتِحِينَ
l-fātiḥīna(of) those who Decide
٨٩
(89)
We would have invented against Allāh a lie if we returned to your religion after Allāh had saved us from it. And it is not for us to return to it except that Allāh, our Lord, should will. Our Lord has encompassed all things in knowledge. Upon Allāh we have relied. Our Lord, decide between us and our people in truth, and You are the best of those who give decision."

وَقَالَ
waqālaAnd said
ٱلْمَلَأُ
l-mala-uthe chiefs
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieved
مِن
minamong
قَوْمِهِۦ
qawmihihis people
لَئِنِ
la-iniIf
ٱتَّبَعْتُمْ
ittabaʿtumyou follow
شُعَيْبًا
shuʿaybanShuaib
إِنَّكُمْ
innakumindeed, you
إِذًۭا
idhanthen
لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ
lakhāsirūna(will be) certainly losers
٩٠
(90)
Said the eminent ones who disbelieved among his people, "If you should follow Shuʿayb, indeed, you would then be losers."

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ
fa-akhadhathumuThen seized them
ٱلرَّجْفَةُ
l-rajfatuthe earthquake
فَأَصْبَحُوا۟
fa-aṣbaḥūthen they became
فِى

dārihimtheir home(s)
جَـٰثِمِينَ
jāthimīnafallen prone

(91)

كَأَن
ka-an(became) as if
لَّمْ

yaghnawthey (had) lived
فِيهَا ۚ
fīhātherein
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnaThose who
كَذَّبُوا۟
kadhabūdenied
شُعَيْبًۭا
shuʿaybanShuaib
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey were
هُمُ
humuthem
ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ
l-khāsirīnathe losers
٩٢
(92)
Those who denied Shuʿayb - it was as though they had never resided there. Those who denied Shuʿayb - it was they who were the losers.

فَتَوَلَّىٰ
fatawallāSo he turned away
عَنْهُمْ
ʿanhumfrom them
وَقَالَ
waqālaand said
يَـٰقَوْمِ
yāqawmiO my people
لَقَدْ
laqadVerily
أَبْلَغْتُكُمْ
ablaghtukumI (have) conveyed to you
رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ
risālāti(the) Messages
رَبِّى
rabbī(of) my Lord
وَنَصَحْتُ
wanaṣaḥtuand advised
لَكُمْ ۖ

فَكَيْفَ

ءَاسَىٰ
āsāI grieve
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāfor
قَوْمٍۢ
qawmina people
كَـٰفِرِينَ
kāfirīna(who are) disbelievers
٩٣
(93)
And he [i.e., Shuʿayb] turned away from them and said, "O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the messages of my Lord and advised you, so how could I grieve for a disbelieving people?"

وَمَآ
wamāAnd not
أَرْسَلْنَا
arsalnāWe sent
فِى
in
قَرْيَةٍۢ
qaryatina city
مِّن
minany
نَّبِىٍّ
nabiyyinProphet
إِلَّآ
illāexcept
أَخَذْنَآ
akhadhnāWe seized
أَهْلَهَا
ahlahāits people
بِٱلْبَأْسَآءِ
bil-basāiwith adversity
وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ
wal-ḍarāiand hardship
لَعَلَّهُمْ
laʿallahumso that they may
يَضَّرَّعُونَ
yaḍḍarraʿūna(become) humble
٩٤
(94)
And We sent to no city a prophet [who was denied] except that We seized its people with poverty and hardship that they might humble themselves [to Allāh].

ثُمَّ
thummaThen
بَدَّلْنَا
baddalnāWe changed
مَكَانَ
makāna(in) place
ٱلسَّيِّئَةِ
l-sayi-ati(of) the bad
ٱلْحَسَنَةَ
l-ḥasanatathe good
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattāuntil
عَفَوا۟
ʿafawthey increased
وَّقَالُوا۟
waqālūand said
قَدْ
qadVerily
مَسَّ
massa(had) touched
ءَابَآءَنَا
ābāanāour forefathers
ٱلضَّرَّآءُ
l-ḍarāuthe adversity
وَٱلسَّرَّآءُ
wal-sarāuand the ease
فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُم
fa-akhadhnāhumSo We seized them
بَغْتَةًۭ
baghtatansuddenly
وَهُمْ
wahumwhile they
لَا
(did) not
يَشْعُرُونَ
yashʿurūnaperceive
٩٥
(95)
Then We exchanged in place of the bad [condition], good, until they increased [and prospered] and said, "Our fathers [also] were touched with hardship and ease." So We seized them suddenly while they did not perceive.

وَلَوْ
walawAnd if
أَنَّ
anna[that]
أَهْلَ
ahlapeople
ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ
l-qurā(of) the cities
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanū(had) believed
وَٱتَّقَوْا۟
wa-ittaqawand feared Allah
لَفَتَحْنَا
lafataḥnāsurely We (would have) opened
عَلَيْهِم
ʿalayhimupon them
بَرَكَـٰتٍۢ
barakātinblessings
مِّنَ
minafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāithe heaven
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍiand the earth
وَلَـٰكِن
walākinbut
كَذَّبُوا۟
kadhabūthey denied
فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُم
fa-akhadhnāhumSo We seized them
بِمَا
bimāfor what
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey used to
يَكْسِبُونَ
yaksibūnaearn
٩٦
(96)
And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allāh, We would have opened [i.e., bestowed] upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning.

أَفَأَمِنَ
afa-aminaThen did feel secure
أَهْلُ
ahlu(the) people
ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ
l-qurā(of) the cities
أَن
anthat
يَأْتِيَهُم
yatiyahumcomes to them
بَأْسُنَا
basunāOur punishment
بَيَـٰتًۭا
bayātan(at) night
وَهُمْ
wahumwhile they
نَآئِمُونَ
nāimūna(were) asleep
٩٧
(97)
Then, did the people of the cities feel secure from Our punishment coming to them at night while they were asleep?

أَوَأَمِنَ
awa-aminaOr felt secure
أَهْلُ
ahlu(the) people
ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ
l-qurā(of) the cities
أَن
anthat
يَأْتِيَهُم
yatiyahumcomes to them
بَأْسُنَا
basunāOur punishment
ضُحًۭى
ḍuḥan(in) daylight
وَهُمْ
wahumwhile they
يَلْعَبُونَ
yalʿabūna(were) playing
٩٨
(98)
Or did the people of the cities feel secure from Our punishment coming to them in the morning while they were at play?

أَفَأَمِنُوا۟
afa-aminūThen did they feel secure
مَكْرَ
makra(from the) plan
ٱللَّهِ ۚ
l-lahi(of) Allah
فَلَا
falāBut not
يَأْمَنُ
yamanufeel secure
مَكْرَ
makra(from the) plan
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
إِلَّا
illāexcept
ٱلْقَوْمُ
l-qawmuthe people
ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ
l-khāsirūna(who are) the losers
٩٩
(99)
Then, did they feel secure from the plan of Allāh? But no one feels secure from the plan of Allāh except the losing people.

أَوَلَمْ
awalamWould it not
يَهْدِ
yahdiguide
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhīna[for] those who
يَرِثُونَ

ٱلْأَرْضَ
l-arḍathe land
مِنۢ
minfrom
بَعْدِ
baʿdiafter
أَهْلِهَآ
ahlihāits people
أَن
anthat
لَّوْ
lawif
نَشَآءُ
nashāuWe willed
أَصَبْنَـٰهُم
aṣabnāhumWe (could) afflict them
بِذُنُوبِهِمْ ۚ
bidhunūbihimfor their sins
وَنَطْبَعُ
wanaṭbaʿuand We put a seal
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāover
قُلُوبِهِمْ
qulūbihimtheir hearts
فَهُمْ
fahumso they
لَا
(do) not
يَسْمَعُونَ
yasmaʿūnahear
١٠٠
(100)
Has it not become clear to those who inherited the earth after its [previous] people that if We willed, We could afflict them for their sins? But We seal over their hearts so they do not hear.

تِلْكَ
til'kaThese
ٱلْقُرَىٰ
l-qurā(were) the cities
نَقُصُّ
naquṣṣuWe relate
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalaykato you
مِنْ
minof
أَنۢبَآئِهَا ۚ
anbāihātheir news
وَلَقَدْ
walaqadAnd certainly
جَآءَتْهُمْ
jāathumcame to them
رُسُلُهُم
rusuluhumtheir Messengers
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ
bil-bayinātiwith clear proofs
فَمَا
famābut not
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey were
لِيُؤْمِنُوا۟
liyu'minūto believe
بِمَا
bimāin what
كَذَّبُوا۟
kadhabūthey (had) denied
مِن
minfrom
قَبْلُ ۚ
qablubefore
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālikaThus
يَطْبَعُ
yaṭbaʿu(has been) put a seal
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu(by) Allah
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāon
قُلُوبِ
qulūbi(the) hearts
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
l-kāfirīna(of) the disbelievers
١٠١
(101)
Those cities - We relate to you, [O Muḥammad], some of their news. And certainly did their messengers come to them with clear proofs, but they were not to believe in that which they had denied before. Thus does Allāh seal over the hearts of the disbelievers.

وَجَدْنَا
wajadnāWe found
لِأَكْثَرِهِم
li-aktharihimfor most of them
مِّنْ
minany
عَهْدٍۢ ۖ
ʿahdincovenant
وَإِن
wa-inBut
وَجَدْنَآ
wajadnāWe found
أَكْثَرَهُمْ
aktharahummost of them
لَفَـٰسِقِينَ
lafāsiqīnacertainly, defiantly disobedient
١٠٢
(102)
And We did not find for most of them any covenant; but indeed, We found most of them defiantly disobedient.

ثُمَّ
thummaThen
بَعَثْنَا
baʿathnāWe sent
مِنۢ
minfrom
بَعْدِهِم
baʿdihimafter them
مُّوسَىٰ
mūsāMusa
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ
biāyātināwith Our Signs
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawnaFiraun
وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦ
wamala-ihiand his chiefs
فَظَلَمُوا۟
faẓalamūBut they were unjust
بِهَا ۖ
bihāto them
فَٱنظُرْ
fa-unẓurSo see
كَيْفَ
kayfahow
كَانَ
kānawas
عَـٰقِبَةُ
ʿāqibatu(the) end
ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ
l-muf'sidīna(of) the corrupters
١٠٣
(103)
Then We sent after them Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were unjust toward them. So see how was the end of the corrupters.

waqālaAnd said
مُوسَىٰ
mūsāMusa
يَـٰفِرْعَوْنُ
yāfir'ʿawnuO Firaun
إِنِّى
innīIndeed, I am
رَسُولٌۭ
rasūluna Messenger
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّ
rabbi(the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
l-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds
١٠٤
(104)
And Moses said, "O Pharaoh, I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds

ḥaqīqunObligated
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalāon
أَن

لَّآ
not
أَقُولَ
aqūlaI say
عَلَى
ʿalāabout
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
إِلَّا
illāexcept
ٱلْحَقَّ ۚ
l-ḥaqathe truth
قَدْ
qadVerily
جِئْتُكُم
ji'tukumI (have) come to you
بِبَيِّنَةٍۢ
bibayyinatinwith a clear Sign
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّكُمْ
rabbikumyour Lord
فَأَرْسِلْ
fa-arsilso send
مَعِىَ
maʿiyawith me
بَنِىٓ
banī(the) Children
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ
is'rāīla(of) Israel
١٠٥
(105)
[Who is] obligated not to say about Allāh except the truth. I have come to you with clear evidence from your Lord, so send with me the Children of Israel."

فَأْتِ

ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ
l-ṣādiqīnathe truthful
١٠٦
(106)
[Pharaoh] said, "If you have come with a sign, then bring it forth, if you should be of the truthful."

فَأَلْقَىٰ
fa-alqāSo he threw
عَصَاهُ
ʿaṣāhuhis staff
فَإِذَا
fa-idhāand suddenly
هِىَ
hiyait
ثُعْبَانٌۭ
thuʿ'bānun(was) a serpent
مُّبِينٌۭ
mubīnunmanifest
١٠٧
(107)
So he [i.e., Moses] threw his staff, and suddenly it was a serpent, manifest.

وَنَزَعَ
wanazaʿaAnd he drew out
يَدَهُۥ
yadahuhis hand
فَإِذَا
fa-idhāand suddenly
هِىَ
hiyait
بَيْضَآءُ
bayḍāu(was) white
لِلنَّـٰظِرِينَ
lilnnāẓirīnafor the observers
١٠٨
(108)
And he drew out his hand; thereupon it was white [with radiance] for the observers.

ٱلْمَلَأُ
l-mala-uthe chiefs
مِن
minof
قَوْمِ
qawmi(the) people
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna(of) Firaun
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
هَـٰذَا
hādhāthis
لَسَـٰحِرٌ
lasāḥirun(is) surely a magician
عَلِيمٌۭ
ʿalīmunlearned
١٠٩
(109)
Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician

yurīduHe wants
أَن

يُخْرِجَكُم
yukh'rijakumdrive you out
مِّنْ
minfrom
أَرْضِكُمْ ۖ
arḍikumyour land
فَمَاذَا
famādhāso what
تَأْمُرُونَ
tamurūna(do) you instruct
١١٠
(110)
Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?"

قَالُوٓا۟
qālūThey said
أَرْجِهْ
arjihPostpone him
وَأَخَاهُ
wa-akhāhuand his brother
وَأَرْسِلْ
wa-arsiland send
فِى
in
ٱلْمَدَآئِنِ
l-madāinithe cities
حَـٰشِرِينَ
ḥāshirīnagatherers
١١١
(111)
They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers

يَأْتُوكَ
yatūkaThey (will) bring to you
بِكُلِّ
bikulli[with] every
سَـٰحِرٍ
sāḥirinmagician
عَلِيمٍۢ
ʿalīminlearned
١١٢
(112)
Who will bring you every learned magician."

وَجَآءَ
wajāaSo came
ٱلسَّحَرَةُ
l-saḥaratuthe magicians
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna(to) Firaun
قَالُوٓا۟
qālūThey said
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
لَنَا
lanāfor us
لَأَجْرًا
la-ajransurely (will be) a reward
إِن
inif
كُنَّا
kunnāwe are
نَحْنُ
naḥnu[we]
ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ
l-ghālibīnathe victors
١١٣
(113)
And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us is a reward if we are the predominant."

qālaHe said
نَعَمْ
naʿamYes
وَإِنَّكُمْ
wa-innakumand indeed you
لَمِنَ
laminasurely (will be) of
ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ
l-muqarabīnathe ones who are near

(114)
He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]."

قَالُوا۟
qālūThey said
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ
yāmūsāO Musa
إِمَّآ
immāWhether
أَن
an[that]
تُلْقِىَ
tul'qiyayou throw
وَإِمَّآ
wa-immāor Whether
أَن
an[that]
نَّكُونَ
nakūnawe will be
نَحْنُ
naḥnu[we]
ٱلْمُلْقِينَ
l-mul'qīnathe ones to throw
١١٥
(115)
They said, "O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first]."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
أَلْقُوا۟ ۖ
alqūThrow
فَلَمَّآ
falammāThen when
أَلْقَوْا۟
alqawthey threw
سَحَرُوٓا۟
saḥarūthey bewitched
أَعْيُنَ
aʿyuna(the) eyes
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsi(of) the people
وَٱسْتَرْهَبُوهُمْ
wa-is'tarhabūhumand terrified them
وَجَآءُو
wajāūand came (up)
بِسِحْرٍ
bisiḥ'rinwith a magic
عَظِيمٍۢ
ʿaẓīmingreat
١١٦
(116)
He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic.

۞ وَأَوْحَيْنَآ
wa-awḥaynāAnd We inspired
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
مُوسَىٰٓ
mūsāMusa
أَنْ
anthat
أَلْقِ
alqiThrow
عَصَاكَ ۖ
ʿaṣākayour staff
فَإِذَا
fa-idhāand suddenly
هِىَ
hiyait
تَلْقَفُ
talqafuswallow(ed)
مَا
what
يَأْفِكُونَ
yafikūnathey (were) falsifying
١١٧
(117)
And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying.

فَوَقَعَ
fawaqaʿaSo was established
ٱلْحَقُّ
l-ḥaquthe truth
وَبَطَلَ
wabaṭalaand became futile
مَا
what
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey used to
يَعْمَلُونَ
yaʿmalūnado
١١٨
(118)
So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing.

فَغُلِبُوا۟
faghulibūSo they were defeated
هُنَالِكَ
hunālikathere
وَٱنقَلَبُوا۟
wa-inqalabūand returned
صَـٰغِرِينَ
ṣāghirīnahumiliated
١١٩
(119)
And they [i.e., Pharaoh and his people] were overcome right there and became debased.

وَأُلْقِىَ
wa-ul'qiyaAnd fell down
ٱلسَّحَرَةُ
l-saḥaratuthe magicians
سَـٰجِدِينَ
sājidīnaprostrate
١٢٠
(120)
And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allāh].

قَالُوٓا۟
qālūThey said
ءَامَنَّا
āmannāWe believe
بِرَبِّ
birabbiin (the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
l-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds

They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds,

The Lord of Moses and Aaron."

ءَامَنتُم
āmantumYou believed
بِهِۦ

قَبْلَ

أَنْ
an[that]
ءَاذَنَ
ādhanaI give permission
لَكُمْ ۖ
lakumto you
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
هَـٰذَا
hādhāthis
لَمَكْرٌۭ
lamakrun(is) surely a plot
مَّكَرْتُمُوهُ
makartumūhuyou have plotted it
فِى
in
ٱلْمَدِينَةِ
l-madīnatithe city
لِتُخْرِجُوا۟
litukh'rijūso that you may drive out
مِنْهَآ
min'hāfrom it
أَهْلَهَا ۖ
ahlahāits people
فَسَوْفَ
fasawfaBut soon
تَعْلَمُونَ
taʿlamūnayou will know
١٢٣
(123)
Said Pharaoh, "You believed in him before I gave you permission. Indeed, this is a conspiracy which you conspired in the city to expel therefrom its people. But you are going to know.

لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ
la-uqaṭṭiʿannaI will surely cut off
أَيْدِيَكُمْ
aydiyakumyour hands
وَأَرْجُلَكُم
wa-arjulakumand your feet
مِّنْ
minof
خِلَـٰفٍۢ
khilāfinopposite (sides)
ثُمَّ
thummaThen
لَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ
la-uṣallibannakumI will surely crucify you
أَجْمَعِينَ
ajmaʿīnaall
١٢٤
(124)
I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all."

قَالُوٓا۟
qālūThey said
إِنَّآ
innāIndeed, we
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
رَبِّنَا
rabbināour Lord
مُنقَلِبُونَ
munqalibūna(will) return
١٢٥
(125)
They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return.

وَمَا
wamāAnd not
تَنقِمُ
tanqimuyou take revenge
مِنَّآ
minnāfrom us
إِلَّآ
illāexcept
أَنْ
anthat
ءَامَنَّا
āmannāwe believed
بِـَٔايَـٰتِ
biāyātiin (the) Signs
رَبِّنَا
rabbinā(of) our Lord
لَمَّا
lammāwhen
جَآءَتْنَا ۚ
jāatnāthey came to us
رَبَّنَآ
rabbanāOur Lord
أَفْرِغْ
afrighPour
عَلَيْنَا
ʿalaynāupon us
صَبْرًۭا
ṣabranpatience
وَتَوَفَّنَا
watawaffanāand cause us to die
مُسْلِمِينَ
mus'limīna(as) Muslims
١٢٦
(126)
And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]."

وَقَالَ
waqālaAnd said
ٱلْمَلَأُ
l-mala-uthe chiefs
مِن

قَوْمِ
qawmi(the) people
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna(of) Firaun
أَتَذَرُ
atadharuWill you leave
مُوسَىٰ
mūsāMusa
وَقَوْمَهُۥ
waqawmahuand his people
لِيُفْسِدُوا۟
liyuf'sidūso that they cause corruption
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
وَيَذَرَكَ
wayadharakaand forsake you
وَءَالِهَتَكَ ۚ
waālihatakaand your gods
قَالَ
qālaHe said
سَنُقَتِّلُ
sanuqattiluWe will kill
أَبْنَآءَهُمْ
abnāahumtheir sons
وَنَسْتَحْىِۦ
wanastaḥyīand we will let live
نِسَآءَهُمْ
nisāahumtheir women
وَإِنَّا
wa-innāand indeed, we
فَوْقَهُمْ
fawqahumover them
قَـٰهِرُونَ
qāhirūna(are) subjugators
١٢٧
(127)
And the eminent among the people of Pharaoh said, "Will you leave Moses and his people to cause corruption in the land and abandon you and your gods?" [Pharaoh] said, "We will kill their sons and keep their women alive; and indeed, we are subjugators over them."

قَالَ
qālaSaid
مُوسَىٰ
mūsāMusa
لِقَوْمِهِ
liqawmihito his people
ٱسْتَعِينُوا۟
is'taʿīnūSeek help
بِٱللَّهِ
bil-lahifrom Allah
وَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟ ۖ
wa-iṣ'birūand be patient
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱلْأَرْضَ
l-arḍathe earth
لِلَّهِ
lillahi(belongs) to Allah
يُورِثُهَا
yūrithuhāHe causes to inherit it
مَن
manwhom
يَشَآءُ
yashāuHe wills
مِنْ
minof
عِبَادِهِۦ ۖ
ʿibādihiHis servants
وَٱلْعَـٰقِبَةُ
wal-ʿāqibatuAnd the end
لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
lil'muttaqīna(is) for the righteous
١٢٨
(128)
Said Moses to his people, "Seek help through Allāh and be patient. Indeed, the earth belongs to Allāh. He causes to inherit it whom He wills of His servants. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous."

قَالُوٓا۟
qālūThey said
أُوذِينَا
ūdhīnāWe have been harmed
مِن
minfrom
قَبْلِ
qablibefore
أَن
an[that]
تَأْتِيَنَا
tatiyanāyou came to us
وَمِنۢ
waminfrom
بَعْدِ
baʿdiand after
مَا
[what]
جِئْتَنَا ۚ
ji'tanāyou have come to us
قَالَ
qālaHe said
عَسَىٰ
ʿasāPerhaps
رَبُّكُمْ
rabbukumyour Lord
أَن
an[that]
يُهْلِكَ
yuh'likawill destroy
عَدُوَّكُمْ
ʿaduwwakumyour enemy
وَيَسْتَخْلِفَكُمْ
wayastakhlifakumand make you successors
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
فَيَنظُرَ
fayanẓurathen see
كَيْفَ
kayfahow
تَعْمَلُونَ
taʿmalūnayou will do
١٢٩
(129)
They said, "We have been harmed before you came to us and after you have come to us." He said, "Perhaps your Lord will destroy your enemy and grant you succession in the land and see how you will do."

وَلَقَدْ
walaqadAnd certainly
أَخَذْنَآ
akhadhnāWe seized
ءَالَ
āla(the) people
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna(of) Firaun
بِٱلسِّنِينَ
bil-sinīnawith years (of famine)
وَنَقْصٍۢ
wanaqṣinand a deficit
مِّنَ
minaof
ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ
l-thamarāti[the] fruits
لَعَلَّهُمْ
laʿallahumso that they may
يَذَّكَّرُونَ
yadhakkarūnareceive admonition
١٣٠
(130)
And We certainly seized the people of Pharaoh with years of famine and a deficiency in fruits that perhaps they would be reminded.

فَإِذَا
fa-idhāBut when
جَآءَتْهُمُ
jāathumucame to them
ٱلْحَسَنَةُ
l-ḥasanatuthe good
قَالُوا۟
qālūthey said
لَنَا
lanāFor us
هَـٰذِهِۦ ۖ
hādhihi(is) this
وَإِن
wa-inAnd if
تُصِبْهُمْ
tuṣib'humafflicts them
سَيِّئَةٌۭ
sayyi-atunbad
يَطَّيَّرُوا۟
yaṭṭayyarūthey ascribe evil omens
بِمُوسَىٰ
bimūsāto Musa
وَمَن
wamanand who
مَّعَهُۥٓ ۗ
maʿahu(were) with him
أَلَآ
alāBehold
إِنَّمَا
innamāOnly
طَـٰٓئِرُهُمْ
ṭāiruhumtheir evil omens
عِندَ
ʿinda(are) with
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
walākinnabut
أَكْثَرَهُمْ
aktharahummost of them
لَا
(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَ
yaʿlamūnaknow
١٣١
(131)
But when good [i.e., provision] came to them, they said, "This is ours [by right]." And if a bad [condition] struck them, they saw an evil omen in Moses and those with him. Unquestionably, their fortune is with Allāh, but most of them do not know.

وَقَالُوا۟
waqālūAnd they said
مَهْمَا
mahmāWhatever
تَأْتِنَا
tatināyou bring us
بِهِۦ
bihitherewith
مِنْ
minof
ءَايَةٍۢ
āyatin(the) sign
لِّتَسْحَرَنَا
litasḥaranāso that you bewitch us
بِهَا
bihāwith it
فَمَا
famāthen not
نَحْنُ
naḥnuwe
لَكَ
laka(will be) in you
بِمُؤْمِنِينَ
bimu'minīnabelievers
١٣٢
(132)
And they said, "No matter what sign you bring us with which to bewitch us, we will not be believers in you."

فَأَرْسَلْنَا
fa-arsalnāSo We sent
عَلَيْهِمُ
ʿalayhimuon them
ٱلطُّوفَانَ
l-ṭūfānathe flood
وَٱلْجَرَادَ
wal-jarādaand the locusts
وَٱلْقُمَّلَ
wal-qumalaand the lice
وَٱلضَّفَادِعَ
wal-ḍafādiʿaand the frogs
وَٱلدَّمَ
wal-damaand the blood
ءَايَـٰتٍۢ
āyātin(as) signs
مُّفَصَّلَـٰتٍۢ
mufaṣṣalātinmanifest
فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟
fa-is'takbarūbut they showed arrogance
وَكَانُوا۟
wakānūand they were
قَوْمًۭا
qawmana people
مُّجْرِمِينَ
muj'rimīnacriminal
١٣٣
(133)
So We sent upon them the flood and locusts and lice and frogs and blood as distinct signs, but they were arrogant and were a criminal people.

وَلَمَّا
walammāAnd when
وَقَعَ
waqaʿafell
عَلَيْهِمُ
ʿalayhimuon them
ٱلرِّجْزُ
l-rij'zuthe punishment
قَالُوا۟
qālūthey said
يَـٰمُوسَى
yāmūsāO Musa
ٱدْعُ
ud'ʿuInvoke
لَنَا
lanāfor us
رَبَّكَ
rabbakayour Lord
بِمَا
bimāby what
عَهِدَ
ʿahidaHe has promised
عِندَكَ ۖ
ʿindakato you
لَئِن
la-inIf
كَشَفْتَ
kashaftayou remove
عَنَّا
ʿannāfrom us
ٱلرِّجْزَ
l-rij'zathe punishment
لَنُؤْمِنَنَّ
lanu'minannasurely, we will believe
لَكَ
laka[for] you
وَلَنُرْسِلَنَّ
walanur'silannaand surely, we will send
مَعَكَ
maʿakawith you
بَنِىٓ
banī(the) Children
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ
is'rāīla(of) Israel
١٣٤
(134)
And when the punishment descended upon them, they said, "O Moses, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. If you [can] remove the punishment from us, we will surely believe you, and we will send with you the Children of Israel."

ٱلرِّجْزَ
l-rij'zathe punishment
إِلَىٰٓ

أَجَلٍ
ajalina (fixed) term
هُم
hum(which) they
بَـٰلِغُوهُ
bālighūhuwere to reach [it]
إِذَا
idhāthen
هُمْ
humthey
يَنكُثُونَ
yankuthūnabroke (the word)
١٣٥
(135)
But when We removed the punishment from them until a term which they were to reach, then at once they broke their word.

فَٱنتَقَمْنَا
fa-intaqamnāSo We took retribution
مِنْهُمْ
min'humfrom them
فَأَغْرَقْنَـٰهُمْ
fa-aghraqnāhumand We drowned them
فِى
in
ٱلْيَمِّ
l-yamithe sea
بِأَنَّهُمْ
bi-annahumbecause they
كَذَّبُوا۟
kadhabūdenied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا
biāyātināOur Signs
وَكَانُوا۟
wakānūand they were
عَنْهَا
ʿanhāto them
غَـٰفِلِينَ
ghāfilīnaheedless
١٣٦
(136)
So We took retribution from them, and We drowned them in the sea because they denied Our signs and were heedless of them.

وَأَوْرَثْنَا
wa-awrathnāAnd We made inheritors
ٱلْقَوْمَ
l-qawmathe people
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَانُوا۟
kānūwere
يُسْتَضْعَفُونَ
yus'taḍʿafūnaconsidered weak
مَشَـٰرِقَ
mashāriqa(the) eastern (parts)
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍi(of) the land
وَمَغَـٰرِبَهَا
wamaghāribahāand the western (parts) of it
ٱلَّتِى
allatīwhich
بَـٰرَكْنَا
bāraknāWe blessed
فِيهَا ۖ
fīhā[in it]
وَتَمَّتْ
watammatAnd was fulfilled
كَلِمَتُ
kalimatu(the) word
رَبِّكَ
rabbika(of) your Lord
ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ
l-ḥus'nāthe best
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāfor
بَنِىٓ
banī(the) Children
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ
is'rāīla(of) Israel
بِمَا
bimābecause
صَبَرُوا۟ ۖ
ṣabarūthey were patient
وَدَمَّرْنَا
wadammarnāAnd We destroyed
مَا
what
كَانَ
kānaused to
يَصْنَعُ
yaṣnaʿumake
فِرْعَوْنُ
fir'ʿawnuFiraun
وَقَوْمُهُۥ
waqawmuhuand his people
وَمَا
wamāand what
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey used to
يَعْرِشُونَ
yaʿrishūnaerect
١٣٧
(137)
And We caused the people who had been oppressed to inherit the eastern regions of the land and the western ones, which We had blessed. And the good word [i.e., decree] of your Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel because of what they had patiently endured. And We destroyed [all] that Pharaoh and his people were producing and what they had been building.

وَجَـٰوَزْنَا
wajāwaznāAnd We led across
بِبَنِىٓ
bibanī(the) Children
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ
is'rāīla(of) Israel
ٱلْبَحْرَ
l-baḥrathe sea
فَأَتَوْا۟
fa-atawThen they came
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāupon
قَوْمٍۢ
qawmina people
يَعْكُفُونَ
yaʿkufūnadevoted
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalāto
أَصْنَامٍۢ
aṣnāminidols
لَّهُمْ ۚ
lahumof theirs
قَالُوا۟
qālūThey said
يَـٰمُوسَى
yāmūsāO Musa
ٱجْعَل
ij'ʿalMake
لَّنَآ
lanāfor us
إِلَـٰهًۭا
ilāhana god
كَمَا
kamālike what
لَهُمْ
lahumthey have
ءَالِهَةٌۭ ۚ
ālihatungods
قَالَ
qālaHe said
إِنَّكُمْ
innakumIndeed, you
قَوْمٌۭ
qawmun(are) a people
تَجْهَلُونَ
tajhalūnaignorant
١٣٨
(138)
And We took the Children of Israel across the sea; then they came upon a people intent in devotion to [some] idols of theirs. They [the Children of Israel] said, "O Moses, make for us a god just as they have gods." He said, "Indeed, you are a people behaving ignorantly.

مُتَبَّرٌۭ

مَّا
(is) what
هُمْ

فِيهِ
fīhi(are) in it
وَبَـٰطِلٌۭ
wabāṭilunand vain
مَّا
(is) what
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey used to
يَعْمَلُونَ
yaʿmalūnado
١٣٩
(139)
Indeed, those [worshippers] - destroyed is that in which they are [engaged], and worthless is whatever they were doing."

أَغَيْرَ
aghayraShould other than
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
أَبْغِيكُمْ
abghīkumI seek for you
إِلَـٰهًۭا
ilāhana god
وَهُوَ
wahuwawhile He
فَضَّلَكُمْ
faḍḍalakumhas preferred you
عَلَى
ʿalāover
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
l-ʿālamīnathe worlds
١٤٠
(140)
He said, "Is it other than Allāh I should desire for you as a god while He has preferred you over the worlds?"

وَإِذْ
wa-idhAnd when
أَنجَيْنَـٰكُم
anjaynākumWe saved you
مِّنْ
minfrom
ءَالِ
āli(the) people
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'ʿawna(of) Firaun
يَسُومُونَكُمْ
yasūmūnakumwho were afflicting you
سُوٓءَ
sūa(with) worst
ٱلْعَذَابِ ۖ
l-ʿadhābi(of) torment
يُقَتِّلُونَ
yuqattilūnathey were killing
أَبْنَآءَكُمْ
abnāakumyour sons
وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ
wayastaḥyūnaand letting live
نِسَآءَكُمْ ۚ
nisāakumyour women
وَفِى
wafīAnd in
ذَٰلِكُم
dhālikumthat
بَلَآءٌۭ
balāon(was) a trial
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّكُمْ
rabbikumyour Lord
عَظِيمٌۭ
ʿaẓīmungreat
١٤١
(141)
And [recall, O Children of Israel], when We saved you from the people of Pharaoh, [who were] afflicting you with the worst torment - killing your sons and keeping your women alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord.

۞ وَوَٰعَدْنَا
wawāʿadnāAnd We appointed
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā(for) Musa
ثَلَـٰثِينَ
thalāthīnathirty
لَيْلَةًۭ
laylatannights
وَأَتْمَمْنَـٰهَا
wa-atmamnāhāand We completed them
بِعَشْرٍۢ
biʿashrinwith ten (more)
فَتَمَّ
fatammaso was completed
مِيقَـٰتُ
mīqātu(the) set term
رَبِّهِۦٓ
rabbihi(of) his Lord
أَرْبَعِينَ
arbaʿīna(of) forty
لَيْلَةًۭ ۚ
laylatannight(s)
وَقَالَ
waqālaAnd said
مُوسَىٰ
mūsāMusa
لِأَخِيهِ
li-akhīhito his brother
هَـٰرُونَ
hārūnaHarun
ٱخْلُفْنِى
ukh'luf'nīTake my place
فِى
in
قَوْمِى
qawmīmy people
وَأَصْلِحْ
wa-aṣliḥand do right
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تَتَّبِعْ
tattabiʿfollow
سَبِيلَ
sabīla(the) way
ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ
l-muf'sidīna(of) the corrupters
١٤٢
(142)
And We made an appointment with Moses for thirty nights and perfected them by [the addition of] ten; so the term of his Lord was completed as forty nights. And Moses said to his brother Aaron, "Take my place among my people, do right [by them], and do not follow the way of the corrupters."

وَلَمَّا

جَآءَ

مُوسَىٰ

لِمِيقَـٰتِنَا
limīqātināto Our appointed place
وَكَلَّمَهُۥ
wakallamahuand spoke to him
رَبُّهُۥ
rabbuhuhis Lord
قَالَ
qālahe said
رَبِّ
rabbiO my Lord
أَرِنِىٓ
arinīShow me
أَنظُرْ
anẓur(that) I may look
إِلَيْكَ ۚ
ilaykaat You
قَالَ
qālaHe said
لَن
lanNever
تَرَىٰنِى
tarānīyou (can) see Me
وَلَـٰكِنِ
walākinibut
ٱنظُرْ
unẓurlook
إِلَى
ilāat
ٱلْجَبَلِ
l-jabalithe mountain
فَإِنِ
fa-ini[then] if
ٱسْتَقَرَّ
is'taqarrait remains
مَكَانَهُۥ
makānahuin its place
فَسَوْفَ
fasawfathen
تَرَىٰنِى ۚ
tarānīyou (will) see Me
فَلَمَّا
falammāBut when
تَجَلَّىٰ
tajallārevealed (His) Glory
رَبُّهُۥ
rabbuhuhis Lord
لِلْجَبَلِ
lil'jabalito the mountain
جَعَلَهُۥ
jaʿalahuHe made it
دَكًّۭا
dakkancrumbled to dust
وَخَرَّ
wakharraand fell down
مُوسَىٰ
mūsāMusa
صَعِقًۭا ۚ
ṣaʿiqanunconscious
فَلَمَّآ
falammāAnd when
أَفَاقَ
afāqahe recovered
قَالَ
qālahe said
سُبْحَـٰنَكَ
sub'ḥānakaGlory be to You
تُبْتُ
tub'tuI turn (in repentance)
إِلَيْكَ
ilaykato you
وَأَنَا۠
wa-anāand I am
أَوَّلُ
awwalu(the) first
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
l-mu'minīna(of) the believers
١٤٣
(143)
And when Moses arrived at Our appointed time and his Lord spoke to him, he said, "My Lord, show me [Yourself] that I may look at You." [Allāh] said, "You will not see Me, but look at the mountain; if it should remain in place, then you will see Me." But when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He rendered it level, and Moses fell unconscious. And when he awoke, he said, "Exalted are You! I have repented to You, and I am the first [among my people] of the believers."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ
yāmūsāO Musa
إِنِّى
innīIndeed, I
ٱصْطَفَيْتُكَ
iṣ'ṭafaytukahave chosen you
عَلَى
ʿalāover
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsithe people
بِرِسَـٰلَـٰتِى
birisālātīwith My Messages
وَبِكَلَـٰمِى
wabikalāmīand with My words
فَخُذْ
fakhudhSo take
مَآ
what
ءَاتَيْتُكَ
ātaytukaI have given you
وَكُن
wakunand be
مِّنَ
minaamong
ٱلشَّـٰكِرِينَ
l-shākirīnathe grateful
١٤٤
(144)
[Allāh] said, "O Moses, I have chosen you over the people with My messages and My words [to you]. So take what I have given you and be among the grateful."

وَكَتَبْنَا
wakatabnāAnd We ordained (laws)
لَهُۥ
lahufor him
فِى
in
ٱلْأَلْوَاحِ
l-alwāḥithe tablets
مِن
minof
كُلِّ
kullievery
شَىْءٍۢ
shayinthing
مَّوْعِظَةًۭ
mawʿiẓatanan instruction
وَتَفْصِيلًۭا
watafṣīlanand explanation
لِّكُلِّ
likullifor every
شَىْءٍۢ
shayinthing
فَخُذْهَا
fakhudh'hāSo take them
بِقُوَّةٍۢ
biquwwatinwith firmness
وَأْمُرْ
wamurand order
قَوْمَكَ
qawmakayour people
يَأْخُذُوا۟
yakhudhū(to) take
بِأَحْسَنِهَا ۚ
bi-aḥsanihā(the) best of it
سَأُو۟رِيكُمْ
sa-urīkumI will show you
دَارَ
dāra(the) home
ٱلْفَـٰسِقِينَ
l-fāsiqīna(of) the defiantly disobedient
١٤٥
(145)
And We wrote for him on the tablets [something] of all things - instruction and explanation for all things, [saying], "Take them with determination and order your people to take the best of it. I will show you the home of the defiantly disobedient."

سَأَصْرِفُ
sa-aṣrifuI will turn away
عَنْ
ʿanfrom
ءَايَـٰتِىَ
āyātiyaMy Signs
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
يَتَكَبَّرُونَ
yatakabbarūnaare arrogant
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
بِغَيْرِ
bighayriwithout
ٱلْحَقِّ
l-ḥaqi[the] right
وَإِن
wa-inand if
يَرَوْا۟
yarawthey see
كُلَّ
kullaevery
ءَايَةٍۢ
āyatinsign
لَّا
not
يُؤْمِنُوا۟
yu'minū(will) they believe
بِهَا
bihāin it
وَإِن
wa-inAnd if
يَرَوْا۟
yarawthey see
سَبِيلَ
sabīla(the) way
ٱلرُّشْدِ
l-rush'di(of) the righteousness
لَا
not
يَتَّخِذُوهُ
yattakhidhūhu(will) they take it
سَبِيلًۭا
sabīlan(as) a way
وَإِن
wa-inbut if
يَرَوْا۟
yarawthey see
سَبِيلَ
sabīla(the) way
ٱلْغَىِّ
l-ghayi(of) [the] error
يَتَّخِذُوهُ
yattakhidhūhuthey will take it
سَبِيلًۭا ۚ
sabīlan(as) a way
ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
بِأَنَّهُمْ
bi-annahum(is) because they
كَذَّبُوا۟
kadhabūdenied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا
biāyātināOur Signs
وَكَانُوا۟
wakānūand they were
عَنْهَا
ʿanhāof them
غَـٰفِلِينَ
ghāfilīnaheedless
١٤٦
(146)
I will turn away from My signs those who are arrogant upon the earth without right; and if they should see every sign, they will not believe in it. And if they see the way of consciousness, they will not adopt it as a way; but if they see the way of error, they will adopt it as a way. That is because they have denied Our signs and they were heedless of them.

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaAnd those who
كَذَّبُوا۟
kadhabūdenied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا
biāyātināOur Signs
وَلِقَآءِ
waliqāiand (the) meeting
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
l-ākhirati(of) the Hereafter
حَبِطَتْ
ḥabiṭatworthless
أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ ۚ
aʿmāluhum(are) their deeds
هَلْ
halWill
يُجْزَوْنَ
yuj'zawnathey be recompensed
إِلَّا
illāexcept
مَا
(for) what
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey used to
يَعْمَلُونَ
yaʿmalūnado
١٤٧
(147)
Those who denied Our signs and the meeting of the Hereafter - their deeds have become worthless. Are they recompensed except for what they used to do?

وَٱتَّخَذَ
wa-ittakhadhaAnd took
قَوْمُ
qawmu(the) people
مُوسَىٰ
mūsā(of) Musa
مِنۢ
minfrom
بَعْدِهِۦ
baʿdihiafter him
مِنْ
minfrom
حُلِيِّهِمْ
ḥuliyyihimtheir ornaments
عِجْلًۭا
ʿij'lana calf
جَسَدًۭا
jasadanan image
لَّهُۥ
lahu[for] it
خُوَارٌ ۚ
khuwārun(had) a lowing sound
أَلَمْ
alamDid not
يَرَوْا۟
yarawthey see
أَنَّهُۥ
annahuthat it
لَا
(could) not
يُكَلِّمُهُمْ
yukallimuhumspeak to them
وَلَا
walāand not
يَهْدِيهِمْ
yahdīhimguide them
سَبِيلًا ۘ
sabīlan(to) a way
ٱتَّخَذُوهُ
ittakhadhūhuThey took it (for worship)
وَكَانُوا۟
wakānūand they were
ظَـٰلِمِينَ
ẓālimīnawrongdoers
١٤٨
(148)
And the people of Moses made, after [his departure], from their ornaments a calf - an image having a lowing sound. Did they not see that it could neither speak to them nor guide them to a way? They took it [for worship], and they were wrongdoers.

وَلَمَّا
walammāAnd when
سُقِطَ
suqiṭa(it was made to) fall
فِىٓ
into
أَيْدِيهِمْ
aydīhimtheir hands
وَرَأَوْا۟
wara-awand they saw
أَنَّهُمْ
annahumthat they
قَدْ
qad(had) indeed
ضَلُّوا۟
ḍallūgone astray
قَالُوا۟
qālūthey said
لَئِن
la-inIf
لَّمْ
lamnot
يَرْحَمْنَا
yarḥamnāhas Mercy on us
رَبُّنَا
rabbunāOur Lord
وَيَغْفِرْ
wayaghfirand forgive
لَنَا
lanā[for] us
لَنَكُونَنَّ
lanakūnannawe will surely be
مِنَ
minaamong
ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ
l-khāsirīnathe losers
١٤٩
(149)
And when regret overcame them and they saw that they had gone astray, they said, "If our Lord does not have mercy upon us and forgive us, we will surely be among the losers."

وَلَمَّا
walammāAnd when
رَجَعَ
rajaʿareturned
مُوسَىٰٓ
mūsāMusa
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
قَوْمِهِۦ
qawmihihis people
غَضْبَـٰنَ
ghaḍbānaangry
أَسِفًۭا
asifanand grieved
قَالَ
qālahe said
بِئْسَمَا
bi'samāEvil is what
خَلَفْتُمُونِى
khalaftumūnīyou have done in my place
مِنۢ
minfrom
بَعْدِىٓ ۖ
baʿdīafter me
أَعَجِلْتُمْ
aʿajil'tumWere you impatient
أَمْرَ
amra(over the) matter
رَبِّكُمْ ۖ
rabbikum(of) your Lord
وَأَلْقَى
wa-alqāAnd he cast down
ٱلْأَلْوَاحَ
l-alwāḥathe tablets
وَأَخَذَ
wa-akhadhaand seized
بِرَأْسِ
birasiby head
أَخِيهِ
akhīhihis brother
يَجُرُّهُۥٓ
yajurruhudragging him
إِلَيْهِ ۚ
ilayhito himself
قَالَ
qālaHe said
ٱبْنَ
ib'naO son
أُمَّ
umma(of) my mother
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱلْقَوْمَ
l-qawmathe people
ٱسْتَضْعَفُونِى
is'taḍʿafūnīconsidered me weak
وَكَادُوا۟
wakādūand were about to
يَقْتُلُونَنِى
yaqtulūnanīkill me
فَلَا
falāSo (let) not
تُشْمِتْ
tush'mitrejoice
بِىَ
biyaover me
ٱلْأَعْدَآءَ
l-aʿdāathe enemies
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تَجْعَلْنِى
tajʿalnīplace me
مَعَ
maʿawith
ٱلْقَوْمِ
l-qawmithe people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
l-ẓālimīna(who are) wrongdoing
١٥٠
(150)
And when Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved, he said, "How wretched is that by which you have replaced me after [my departure]. Were you impatient over the matter of your Lord?" And he threw down the tablets and seized his brother by [the hair of] his head, pulling him toward him. [Aaron] said, "O son of my mother, indeed the people overpowered me and were about to kill me, so let not the enemies rejoice over me and do not place me among the wrongdoing people."

قَالَ
qālaHe said
رَبِّ
rabbiO my Lord
ٱغْفِرْ
igh'firForgive
لِى
me
وَلِأَخِى
wali-akhīand my brother
وَأَدْخِلْنَا
wa-adkhil'nāand admit us
فِى
into
رَحْمَتِكَ ۖ
raḥmatikaYour Mercy
وَأَنتَ
wa-antafor You
أَرْحَمُ
arḥamu(are) the Most Merciful
ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ
l-rāḥimīna(of) the merciful
١٥١
(151)
[Moses] said, "My Lord, forgive me and my brother and admit us into Your mercy, for You are the most merciful of the merciful."

إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟
ittakhadhūtook
ٱلْعِجْلَ
l-ʿij'lathe calf
سَيَنَالُهُمْ
sayanāluhumwill reach them
غَضَبٌۭ
ghaḍabunwrath
مِّن
minfrom
رَّبِّهِمْ
rabbihimtheir Lord
وَذِلَّةٌۭ
wadhillatunand humiliation
فِى
in
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
l-ḥayatithe life
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ
l-dun'yā(of) the world
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālikaAnd thus
نَجْزِى
najzīWe recompense
ٱلْمُفْتَرِينَ
l-muf'tarīnathe ones who invent (falsehood)
١٥٢
(152)
Indeed, those who took the calf [for worship] will obtain anger from their Lord and humiliation in the life of this world, and thus do We recompense the inventors [of falsehood].

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaAnd those who
عَمِلُوا۟
ʿamilūdo
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ
l-sayiātithe evil deeds
ثُمَّ
thummathen
تَابُوا۟
tābūrepented
مِنۢ
minfrom
بَعْدِهَا
baʿdihāafter that
وَءَامَنُوٓا۟
waāmanūand believed
إِنَّ
innaindeed
رَبَّكَ
rabbakayour Lord
مِنۢ
minfrom
بَعْدِهَا
baʿdihāafter that
لَغَفُورٌۭ
laghafūrun(is) surely Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭ
raḥīmunMost Merciful
١٥٣
(153)
But those who committed misdeeds and then repented after them and believed - indeed your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful.

وَلَمَّا
walammāAnd when
سَكَتَ
sakatawas calmed
عَن
ʿanfrom
مُّوسَى
mūsāMusa
ٱلْغَضَبُ
l-ghaḍabuthe anger
أَخَذَ
akhadhahe took (up)
ٱلْأَلْوَاحَ ۖ
l-alwāḥathe tablets
وَفِى
wafīand in
نُسْخَتِهَا
nus'khatihātheir inscription
هُدًۭى
hudan(was) guidance
وَرَحْمَةٌۭ
waraḥmatunand mercy
لِّلَّذِينَ
lilladhīnafor those who
هُمْ
hum[they]
لِرَبِّهِمْ
lirabbihimof their Lord
يَرْهَبُونَ
yarhabūna(are) fearful
١٥٤
(154)
And when the anger subsided in Moses, he took up the tablets; and in their inscription was guidance and mercy for those who are fearful of their Lord.

وَٱخْتَارَ
wa-ikh'tāraAnd chose
مُوسَىٰ
mūsāMusa
قَوْمَهُۥ
qawmahu(from) his people
سَبْعِينَ
sabʿīnaseventy
رَجُلًۭا
rajulanmen
لِّمِيقَـٰتِنَا ۖ
limīqātināfor Our appointment
فَلَمَّآ
falammāThen when
أَخَذَتْهُمُ
akhadhathumuseized them
ٱلرَّجْفَةُ
l-rajfatuthe earthquake
قَالَ
qālahe said
رَبِّ
rabbiO my Lord
لَوْ
lawIf
شِئْتَ
shi'tayou (had) willed
أَهْلَكْتَهُم
ahlaktahumYou (could) have destroyed them
مِّن
minfrom
قَبْلُ
qablubefore
وَإِيَّـٰىَ ۖ
wa-iyyāyaand me
أَتُهْلِكُنَا
atuh'likunāWould You destroy us
بِمَا
bimāfor what
فَعَلَ
faʿaladid
ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ
l-sufahāuthe foolish
مِنَّآ ۖ
minnāamong us
إِنْ
inNot
هِىَ
hiyait (was)
إِلَّا
illābut
فِتْنَتُكَ
fit'natukaYour trial
تُضِلُّ
tuḍilluYou let go astray
بِهَا
bihāby it
مَن
manwhom
تَشَآءُ
tashāuYou will
وَتَهْدِى
watahdīand You guide
مَن
manwhom
تَشَآءُ ۖ
tashāuYou will
أَنتَ
antaYou
وَلِيُّنَا
waliyyunā(are) our Protector
فَٱغْفِرْ
fa-igh'firso forgive
لَنَا
lanāus
وَٱرْحَمْنَا ۖ
wa-ir'ḥamnāand have mercy upon us
وَأَنتَ
wa-antaand You
خَيْرُ
khayru(are) Best
ٱلْغَـٰفِرِينَ
l-ghāfirīna(of) Forgivers
١٥٥
(155)
And Moses chose from his people seventy men for Our appointment. And when the earthquake seized them, he said, "My Lord, if You had willed, You could have destroyed them before and me [as well]. Would You destroy us for what the foolish among us have done? This is not but Your trial by which You send astray whom You will and guide whom You will. You are our Protector, so forgive us and have mercy upon us; and You are the best of forgivers.

۞ وَٱكْتُبْ
wa-uk'tubAnd ordain
لَنَا
lanāfor us
فِى
in
هَـٰذِهِ
hādhihithis
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā[the] world
حَسَنَةًۭ
ḥasanatangood
وَفِى
wafīand in
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
l-ākhiratithe Hereafter
إِنَّا
innāIndeed, we
هُدْنَآ
hud'nāwe have turned
إِلَيْكَ ۚ
ilaykato You
قَالَ
qālaHe said
عَذَابِىٓ
ʿadhābīMy punishment
أُصِيبُ
uṣībuI afflict
بِهِۦ
bihiwith it
مَنْ
manwhom
أَشَآءُ ۖ
ashāuI will
وَرَحْمَتِى
waraḥmatībut My Mercy
وَسِعَتْ
wasiʿatencompasses
كُلَّ
kullaevery
شَىْءٍۢ ۚ
shayinthing
فَسَأَكْتُبُهَا
fasa-aktubuhāSo I will ordain it
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhīnafor those who
يَتَّقُونَ
yattaqūna(are) righteous
وَيُؤْتُونَ
wayu'tūnaand give
ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ
l-zakatazakah
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaand those who
هُم
hum[they]
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا
biāyātināin Our Verses
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūnathey believe
١٥٦
(156)
And decree for us in this world [that which is] good and [also] in the Hereafter; indeed, we have turned back to You." [Allāh] said, "My punishment - I afflict with it whom I will, but My mercy encompasses all things." So I will decree it [especially] for those who fear Me and give zakāh and those who believe in Our verses-

يَتَّبِعُونَ

ٱلرَّسُولَ
l-rasūlathe Messenger
ٱلنَّبِىَّ
l-nabiyathe Prophet
ٱلْأُمِّىَّ
l-umiyathe unlettered
ٱلَّذِى
alladhīwhom
يَجِدُونَهُۥ
yajidūnahuthey find him
مَكْتُوبًا
maktūbanwritten
عِندَهُمْ
ʿindahumwith them
فِى
in
ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ
l-tawrātithe Taurat
وَٱلْإِنجِيلِ
wal-injīliand the Injeel
يَأْمُرُهُم
yamuruhumHe commands them
بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ
bil-maʿrūfito the right
وَيَنْهَىٰهُمْ
wayanhāhumand forbids them
عَنِ
ʿanifrom
ٱلْمُنكَرِ
l-munkarithe wrong
وَيُحِلُّ
wayuḥilluand he makes lawful
لَهُمُ
lahumufor them
ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ
l-ṭayibātithe pure things
وَيُحَرِّمُ
wayuḥarrimuand makes unlawful
عَلَيْهِمُ
ʿalayhimufor them
ٱلْخَبَـٰٓئِثَ
l-khabāithathe impure things
وَيَضَعُ
wayaḍaʿuand he relieves
عَنْهُمْ
ʿanhumfrom them
إِصْرَهُمْ
iṣ'rahumtheir burden
وَٱلْأَغْلَـٰلَ
wal-aghlālaand the fetters
ٱلَّتِى
allatīwhich
كَانَتْ
kānatwere
عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ
ʿalayhimupon them
فَٱلَّذِينَ
fa-alladhīnaSo those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieve
بِهِۦ
bihiin him
وَعَزَّرُوهُ
waʿazzarūhuand honor him
وَنَصَرُوهُ
wanaṣarūhuand help him
وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟
wa-ittabaʿūand follow
ٱلنُّورَ
l-nūrathe light
ٱلَّذِىٓ
alladhīwhich
أُنزِلَ
unzilahas been sent down
مَعَهُۥٓ ۙ
maʿahuwith him
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāikaThose (are)
هُمُ
humu[they]
ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ
l-muf'liḥūnathe successful ones
١٥٧
(157)
Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered prophet, whom they find written [i.e., described] in what they have of the Torah and the Gospel, who enjoins upon them what is right and prohibits them from what is wrong and makes lawful for them what is good and forbids them from what is evil and relieves them of their burden and the shackles which were upon them. So they who have believed in him, honored him, supported him and followed the light which was sent down with him - it is those who will be the successful.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

ٱلنَّاسُ
l-nāsumankind
إِنِّى
innīIndeed I am
رَسُولُ
rasūlu(the) Messenger
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
إِلَيْكُمْ
ilaykumto you
جَمِيعًا
jamīʿanall
ٱلَّذِى
alladhīthe One
لَهُۥ
lahufor Whom
مُلْكُ
mul'ku(is the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ
wal-arḍiand the earth
لَآ
(There is) no
إِلَـٰهَ
ilāhagod
إِلَّا
illāexcept
هُوَ
huwaHim
يُحْىِۦ
yuḥ'yīHe gives life
وَيُمِيتُ ۖ
wayumītuand causes death
فَـَٔامِنُوا۟
faāminūSo believe
بِٱللَّهِ
bil-lahiin Allah
وَرَسُولِهِ
warasūlihiand His Messenger
ٱلنَّبِىِّ
l-nabiyithe Prophet
ٱلْأُمِّىِّ
l-umiyithe unlettered
ٱلَّذِى
alladhīthe one who
يُؤْمِنُ
yu'minubelieves
بِٱللَّهِ
bil-lahiin Allah
وَكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ
wakalimātihiand His Words
وَٱتَّبِعُوهُ
wa-ittabiʿūhuand follow him
لَعَلَّكُمْ
laʿallakumso that you may
تَهْتَدُونَ
tahtadūna(be) guided
١٥٨
(158)
Say, [O Muḥammad], "O mankind, indeed I am the Messenger of Allāh to you all, [from Him] to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death." So believe in Allāh and His Messenger, the unlettered prophet, who believes in Allāh and His words, and follow him that you may be guided.

waminAnd among
قَوْمِ
qawmi(the) people
مُوسَىٰٓ
mūsā(of) Musa
أُمَّةٌۭ
ummatun(is) a community
يَهْدُونَ
yahdūna(which) guides
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqiwith truth
وَبِهِۦ
wabihiand by it
يَعْدِلُونَ
yaʿdilūnaestablishes justice
١٥٩
(159)
And among the people of Moses is a community which guides by truth and by it establishes justice.

وَقَطَّعْنَـٰهُمُ
waqaṭṭaʿnāhumuAnd We divided them
ٱثْنَتَىْ
ith'natay(into) two
عَشْرَةَ
ʿashrata(and) ten [i.e. twelve]
أَسْبَاطًا
asbāṭantribes
أُمَمًۭا ۚ
umaman(as) communities
وَأَوْحَيْنَآ
wa-awḥaynāAnd We inspired
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
مُوسَىٰٓ
mūsāMusa
إِذِ
idhiwhen
ٱسْتَسْقَىٰهُ
is'tasqāhuasked him for water
قَوْمُهُۥٓ
qawmuhuhis people
أَنِ
ani[that]
ٱضْرِب
iḍ'ribStrike
بِّعَصَاكَ
biʿaṣākawith your staff
ٱلْحَجَرَ ۖ
l-ḥajarathe stone
فَٱنۢبَجَسَتْ
fa-inbajasatThen gushed forth
مِنْهُ
min'hufrom it
ٱثْنَتَا
ith'natātwo
عَشْرَةَ
ʿashrata(and) ten [i.e. twelve]
عَيْنًۭا ۖ
ʿaynansprings
قَدْ
qadCertainly
عَلِمَ
ʿalimaknew
كُلُّ
kullueach
أُنَاسٍۢ
unāsinpeople
مَّشْرَبَهُمْ ۚ
mashrabahumtheir drinking place
وَظَلَّلْنَا
waẓallalnāAnd We shaded
عَلَيْهِمُ
ʿalayhimu[on] them
ٱلْغَمَـٰمَ
l-ghamāma(with) the clouds
وَأَنزَلْنَا
wa-anzalnāand We sent down
عَلَيْهِمُ
ʿalayhimuupon them
ٱلْمَنَّ
l-manathe manna
وَٱلسَّلْوَىٰ ۖ
wal-salwāand the quails
كُلُوا۟
kulūEat
مِن
minfrom
طَيِّبَـٰتِ
ṭayyibāti(the) good things
مَا
which
رَزَقْنَـٰكُمْ ۚ
razaqnākumWe have provided you
وَمَا
wamāAnd not
ظَلَمُونَا
ẓalamūnāthey wronged Us
وَلَـٰكِن
walākinbut
كَانُوٓا۟
kānūthey were
أَنفُسَهُمْ
anfusahum(to) themselves
يَظْلِمُونَ
yaẓlimūnadoing wrong
١٦٠
(160)
And We divided them into twelve descendant tribes [as distinct] nations. And We inspired to Moses when his people implored him for water, "Strike with your staff the stone," and there gushed forth from it twelve springs. Every people [i.e., tribe] knew its watering place. And We shaded them with clouds and sent down upon them manna and quails, [saying], "Eat from the good things with which We have provided you." And they wronged Us not, but they were [only] wronging themselves.

قِيلَ
qīlait was said
لَهُمُ
lahumuto them
ٱسْكُنُوا۟
us'kunūLive
هَـٰذِهِ

ٱلْقَرْيَةَ
l-qaryatacity
وَكُلُوا۟
wakulūand eat
مِنْهَا
min'hāfrom it
حَيْثُ
ḥaythuwherever
شِئْتُمْ
shi'tumyou wish
وَقُولُوا۟
waqūlūand say
حِطَّةٌۭ
ḥiṭṭatunRepentance
وَٱدْخُلُوا۟
wa-ud'khulūand enter
ٱلْبَابَ
l-bābathe gate
سُجَّدًۭا
sujjadanprostrating
نَّغْفِرْ
naghfirWe will forgive
لَكُمْ
lakumfor you
خَطِيٓـَٔـٰتِكُمْ ۚ
khaṭīātikumyour sins
سَنَزِيدُ
sanazīduWe will increase (reward)
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
l-muḥ'sinīna(of) the good-doers
١٦١
(161)
And [mention, O Muḥammad], when it was said to them, "Dwell in this city [i.e., Jerusalem] and eat from it wherever you will and say, 'Relieve us of our burdens [i.e., sins],' and enter the gate bowing humbly; We will [then] forgive you your sins. We will increase the doers of good [in goodness and reward]."

قَوْلًا

ٱلَّذِى
alladhī(that) which
قِيلَ
qīlawas said
لَهُمْ

فَأَرْسَلْنَا
fa-arsalnāSo We sent
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhimupon them
رِجْزًۭا
rij'zantorment
مِّنَ
minafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāithe sky
بِمَا
bimābecause
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey were
يَظْلِمُونَ
yaẓlimūnadoing wrong
١٦٢
(162)
But those who wronged among them changed [the words] to a statement other than that which had been said to them. So We sent upon them a punishment from the sky for the wrong that they were doing.

ٱلْقَرْيَةِ

ٱلَّتِى

ḥāḍiratasituated
ٱلْبَحْرِ
l-baḥri(by) the sea
إِذْ
idhwhen
يَعْدُونَ
yaʿdūnathey transgressed
فِى
in
ٱلسَّبْتِ
l-sabtithe (matter of) Sabbath
إِذْ
idhwhen
تَأْتِيهِمْ
tatīhimcame to them
حِيتَانُهُمْ
ḥītānuhumtheir fish
يَوْمَ
yawma(on the) day
سَبْتِهِمْ
sabtihim(of) their Sabbath
شُرَّعًۭا
shurraʿanvisibly
وَيَوْمَ
wayawmaand (on the) day
لَا
not
يَسْبِتُونَ ۙ
yasbitūnathey had Sabbath
لَا
(they did) not
تَأْتِيهِمْ ۚ
tatīhimcome to them
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhālikaThus
نَبْلُوهُم
nablūhumWe test them
بِمَا
bimābecause
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey were
يَفْسُقُونَ
yafsuqūnadefiantly disobeying
١٦٣
(163)
And ask them about the town that was by the sea - when they transgressed in [the matter of] the sabbath - when their fish came to them openly on their sabbath day, and the day they had no sabbath they did not come to them. Thus did We give them trial because they were defiantly disobedient.

أُمَّةٌۭ

مِّنْهُمْ

لِمَ
limaWhy
تَعِظُونَ
taʿiẓūna(do) you preach
قَوْمًا ۙ
qawmana people
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu(whom) Allah
مُهْلِكُهُمْ
muh'likuhum(is going to) destroy them
أَوْ
awor
مُعَذِّبُهُمْ
muʿadhibuhumpunish them
عَذَابًۭا
ʿadhāban(with) a punishment
شَدِيدًۭا ۖ
shadīdansevere
قَالُوا۟
qālūThey said
مَعْذِرَةً
maʿdhiratanTo be absolved
إِلَىٰ
ilābefore
رَبِّكُمْ
rabbikumyour Lord
وَلَعَلَّهُمْ
walaʿallahumand that they may
يَتَّقُونَ
yattaqūnabecome righteous
١٦٤
(164)
And when a community among them said, "Why do you advise [or warn] a people whom Allāh is [about] to destroy or to punish with a severe punishment?" they [the advisors] said, "To be absolved before your Lord and perhaps they may fear Him."

نَسُوا۟
nasūthey forgot
مَا
what
ذُكِّرُوا۟
dhukkirūthey had been reminded
بِهِۦٓ
bihiwith [it]
أَنجَيْنَا
anjaynāWe saved
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
يَنْهَوْنَ
yanhawnaforbade
عَنِ
ʿani[from]
ٱلسُّوٓءِ
l-sūithe evil
وَأَخَذْنَا
wa-akhadhnāand We seized
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
ظَلَمُوا۟
ẓalamūwronged
بِعَذَابٍۭ
biʿadhābinwith a punishment
بَـِٔيسٍۭ
baīsinwretched
بِمَا
bimābecause
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey were
يَفْسُقُونَ
yafsuqūnadefiantly disobeying
١٦٥
(165)
And when they [i.e., those advised] forgot that by which they had been reminded, We saved those who had forbidden evil and seized those who wronged, with a wretched punishment, because they were defiantly disobeying.

ʿatawthey exceeded all bounds
عَن
ʿanabout
مَّا
what
نُهُوا۟
nuhūthey were forbidden
عَنْهُ
ʿanhufrom it
قُلْنَا
qul'nāWe said
لَهُمْ
lahumto them
كُونُوا۟
kūnūBe
قِرَدَةً
qiradatanapes
خَـٰسِـِٔينَ
khāsiīnadespised
١٦٦
(166)
So when they were insolent about that which they had been forbidden, We said to them, "Be apes, despised."

وَإِذْ
wa-idhAnd when
تَأَذَّنَ
ta-adhanadeclared
رَبُّكَ
rabbukayour Lord
لَيَبْعَثَنَّ
layabʿathannathat He would surely send
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhimupon them
إِلَىٰ
ilātill
يَوْمِ
yawmi(the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
مَن
man(those) who
يَسُومُهُمْ
yasūmuhumwould afflict them
سُوٓءَ
sūa(with) a grievous
ٱلْعَذَابِ ۗ
l-ʿadhābi[the] punishment
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
رَبَّكَ
rabbakayour Lord
لَسَرِيعُ
lasarīʿu(is) surely swift
ٱلْعِقَابِ ۖ
l-ʿiqābi(in) the retribution
وَإِنَّهُۥ
wa-innahubut indeed, He
لَغَفُورٌۭ
laghafūrun(is) surely Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭ
raḥīmunMost Merciful
١٦٧
(167)
And [mention] when your Lord declared that He would surely [continue to] send upon them until the Day of Resurrection those who would afflict them with the worst torment. Indeed, your Lord is swift in penalty; but indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful.

ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
أُمَمًۭا ۖ
umaman(as) nations
مِّنْهُمُ
min'humuAmong them
ٱلصَّـٰلِحُونَ
l-ṣāliḥūna(are) the righteous
وَمِنْهُمْ
wamin'humand among them
دُونَ
dūna(are) other than
ذَٰلِكَ ۖ
dhālikathat
وَبَلَوْنَـٰهُم
wabalawnāhumAnd We tested them
بِٱلْحَسَنَـٰتِ
bil-ḥasanātiwith the good
وَٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ
wal-sayiātiand the bad
لَعَلَّهُمْ
laʿallahumso that they may
يَرْجِعُونَ
yarjiʿūnareturn
١٦٨
(168)
And We divided them throughout the earth into nations. Of them some were righteous, and of them some were otherwise. And We tested them with good [times] and bad that perhaps they would return [to obedience].

fakhalafaThen succeeded

بَعْدِهِمْ

خَلْفٌۭ
khalfunsuccessors
وَرِثُوا۟
warithū(who) inherited
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ
l-kitābathe Book
يَأْخُذُونَ
yakhudhūnataking
عَرَضَ
ʿaraḍagoods
هَـٰذَا
hādhā(of) this
ٱلْأَدْنَىٰ
l-adnāthe lower (life)
وَيَقُولُونَ
wayaqūlūnaand they say
سَيُغْفَرُ
sayugh'faruIt will be forgiven
لَنَا
lanāfor us
وَإِن
wa-inAnd if
يَأْتِهِمْ
yatihimcomes to them
عَرَضٌۭ
ʿaraḍungoods
مِّثْلُهُۥ
mith'luhusimilar to it
يَأْخُذُوهُ ۚ
yakhudhūhuthey will take it
أَلَمْ
alamWas not
يُؤْخَذْ
yu'khadhtaken
عَلَيْهِم
ʿalayhimon them
مِّيثَـٰقُ
mīthāquCovenant
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ
l-kitābi(of) the Book
أَن
anthat
لَّا
not
يَقُولُوا۟
yaqūlūthey will say
عَلَى
ʿalāabout
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
إِلَّا
illāexcept
ٱلْحَقَّ
l-ḥaqathe truth
وَدَرَسُوا۟
wadarasūwhile they studied
مَا
what
فِيهِ ۗ
fīhi(is) in it
وَٱلدَّارُ
wal-dāruAnd the home
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ
l-ākhiratu(of) the Hereafter
خَيْرٌۭ
khayrun(is) better
لِّلَّذِينَ
lilladhīnafor those who
يَتَّقُونَ ۗ
yattaqūnafear Allah
أَفَلَا
afalāSo will not
تَعْقِلُونَ
taʿqilūnayou use intellect
١٦٩
(169)
And there followed them successors who inherited the Scripture [while] taking the commodities of this lower life and saying, "It will be forgiven for us." And if an offer like it comes to them, they will [again] take it. Was not the covenant of the Scripture [i.e., the Torah] taken from them that they would not say about Allāh except the truth, and they studied what was in it? And the home of the Hereafter is better for those who fear Allāh, so will you not use reason?

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaAnd those who
يُمَسِّكُونَ
yumassikūnahold fast
بِٱلْكِتَـٰبِ
bil-kitābito the Book
وَأَقَامُوا۟
wa-aqāmūand establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
l-ṣalatathe prayer
إِنَّا
innāindeed, We
لَا
(will) not
نُضِيعُ
nuḍīʿu[We] let go waste
أَجْرَ
ajra(the) reward
ٱلْمُصْلِحِينَ
l-muṣ'liḥīna(of) the reformers
١٧٠
(170)
But those who hold fast to the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] and establish prayer - indeed, We will not allow to be lost the reward of the reformers.

نَتَقْنَا
nataqnāWe raised
ٱلْجَبَلَ
l-jabalathe mountain
فَوْقَهُمْ
fawqahumabove them
كَأَنَّهُۥ
ka-annahuas if it was
ظُلَّةٌۭ
ẓullatuna canopy
وَظَنُّوٓا۟
waẓannūand they thought
أَنَّهُۥ
annahuthat it
وَاقِعٌۢ
wāqiʿun(would) fall
بِهِمْ
bihimupon them
خُذُوا۟
khudhū(We said), "Take
مَآ
what
ءَاتَيْنَـٰكُم
ātaynākumWe have given you
بِقُوَّةٍۢ
biquwwatinwith strength
وَٱذْكُرُوا۟
wa-udh'kurūand remember
مَا
what
فِيهِ
fīhi(is) in it
لَعَلَّكُمْ
laʿallakumso that you may
تَتَّقُونَ
tattaqūnafear Allah
١٧١
(171)
And [mention] when We raised the mountain above them as if it was a dark cloud and they were certain that it would fall upon them, [and Allāh said], "Take what We have given you with determination and remember what is in it that you might fear Allāh."

akhadha(was) taken
رَبُّكَ
rabbuka(by) your Lord
مِنۢ
minfrom
بَنِىٓ
banī(the) Children
ءَادَمَ
ādama(of) Adam
مِن
minfrom
ظُهُورِهِمْ
ẓuhūrihimtheir loins
ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ
dhurriyyatahumtheir descendants
وَأَشْهَدَهُمْ
wa-ashhadahumand made them testify
عَلَىٰٓ
ʿalāover
أَنفُسِهِمْ
anfusihimthemselves
أَلَسْتُ
alastuAm I not
بِرَبِّكُمْ ۖ
birabbikumyour Lord
قَالُوا۟
qālūThey said
بَلَىٰ ۛ
balāYes
شَهِدْنَآ ۛ
shahid'nāwe have testified
أَن
anLest
تَقُولُوا۟
taqūlūyou say
يَوْمَ
yawma(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
إِنَّا
innāIndeed
كُنَّا
kunnāwe were
عَنْ
ʿanabout
هَـٰذَا
hādhāthis
غَـٰفِلِينَ
ghāfilīnaunaware
١٧٢
(172)
And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam - from their loins - their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], "Am I not your Lord?" They said, "Yes, we have testified." [This] - lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection, "Indeed, we were of this unaware."

تَقُولُوٓا۟
taqūlūyou say
إِنَّمَآ
innamāOnly
أَشْرَكَ
ashrakapartners (were) associated (with Allah)
ءَابَآؤُنَا
ābāunā(by) our forefathers
مِن
minfrom
قَبْلُ
qablubefore (us)
وَكُنَّا
wakunnāand we are
ذُرِّيَّةًۭ
dhurriyyatandescendants
مِّنۢ
minfrom
بَعْدِهِمْ ۖ
baʿdihimafter them
أَفَتُهْلِكُنَا
afatuh'likunāSo will You destroy us
بِمَا
bimāfor what
فَعَلَ
faʿaladid
ٱلْمُبْطِلُونَ
l-mub'ṭilūnathe falsifiers
١٧٣
(173)
Or [lest] you say, "It was only that our fathers associated [others in worship] with Allāh before, and we were but descendants after them. Then would You destroy us for what the falsifiers have done?"

وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wakadhālikaAnd thus
نُفَصِّلُ
nufaṣṣiluWe explain
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ
l-āyātithe Verses
وَلَعَلَّهُمْ
walaʿallahumso that they may
يَرْجِعُونَ
yarjiʿūnareturn
١٧٤
(174)
And thus do We [explain in] detail the verses, and perhaps they will return.

وَٱتْلُ
wa-ut'luAnd recite
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhimto them
نَبَأَ
naba-a(the) story
ٱلَّذِىٓ
alladhī(of the) one whom
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ
ātaynāhuWe gave [him]
ءَايَـٰتِنَا
āyātināOur Verses
فَٱنسَلَخَ
fa-insalakhabut he detached
مِنْهَا
min'hā[from] them
فَأَتْبَعَهُ
fa-atbaʿahuso followed him
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ
l-shayṭānuthe Shaitaan
فَكَانَ
fakānaand he became
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْغَاوِينَ
l-ghāwīnathose gone astray
١٧٥
(175)
And recite to them, [O Muḥammad], the news of him to whom We gave [knowledge of] Our signs, but he detached himself from them; so Satan pursued him, and he became of the deviators.

وَلَوْ
walawAnd if
شِئْنَا
shi'nāWe willed
لَرَفَعْنَـٰهُ
larafaʿnāhusurely, We (could) have raised him
بِهَا
bihāwith these
وَلَـٰكِنَّهُۥٓ
walākinnahu[and] but he
أَخْلَدَ
akhladaadhered
إِلَى
ilāto
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
وَٱتَّبَعَ
wa-ittabaʿaand followed
هَوَىٰهُ ۚ
hawāhuhis (vain) desires
فَمَثَلُهُۥ
famathaluhuSo his example
كَمَثَلِ
kamathali(is) like (the) example
ٱلْكَلْبِ
l-kalbi(of) the dog
إِن
inif
تَحْمِلْ
taḥmilyou attack
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi[on] him
يَلْهَثْ
yalhathhe lolls out his tongue
أَوْ
awor
تَتْرُكْهُ
tatruk'huif you leave him
يَلْهَث ۚ
yalhathhe lolls out his tongue
ذَّٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
مَثَلُ
mathalu(is the) example
ٱلْقَوْمِ
l-qawmi(of) the people
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnawho
كَذَّبُوا۟
kadhabūdenied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا ۚ
biāyātinā[in] Our Signs
فَٱقْصُصِ
fa-uq'ṣuṣiSo relate
ٱلْقَصَصَ
l-qaṣaṣathe story
لَعَلَّهُمْ
laʿallahumso that they may
يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
yatafakkarūnareflect
١٧٦
(176)
And if We had willed, We could have elevated him thereby, but he adhered [instead] to the earth and followed his own desire. So his example is like that of the dog: if you chase him, he pants, or if you leave him, he [still] pants. That is the example of the people who denied Our signs. So relate the stories that perhaps they will give thought.

mathalan(as) an example
ٱلْقَوْمُ
l-qawmu(are) the people
ٱلَّذِينَ

كَذَّبُوا۟

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا
biāyātināOur Signs
وَأَنفُسَهُمْ
wa-anfusahumand themselves
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey used to
يَظْلِمُونَ
yaẓlimūnawrong
١٧٧
(177)
How evil an example [is that of] the people who denied Our signs and used to wrong themselves.

manWhoever
يَهْدِ
yahdi(is) guided
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu(by) Allah
فَهُوَ
fahuwathen he
ٱلْمُهْتَدِى ۖ
l-muh'tadī(is) the guided one
وَمَن
wamanwhile whoever
يُضْلِلْ
yuḍ'lilHe lets go astray
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
fa-ulāikathen those
هُمُ
humu[they]
ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ
l-khāsirūna(are) the losers
١٧٨
(178)
Whoever Allāh guides - he is the [rightly] guided; and whoever He sends astray - it is those who are the losers.

وَلَقَدْ
walaqadAnd certainly
ذَرَأْنَا
dharanāWe have created
لِجَهَنَّمَ
lijahannamafor Hell
كَثِيرًۭا
kathīranmany
مِّنَ
minaof
ٱلْجِنِّ
l-jinithe jinn
وَٱلْإِنسِ ۖ
wal-insiand men
لَهُمْ
lahumFor them
قُلُوبٌۭ
qulūbun(are) hearts
لَّا
(but) not
يَفْقَهُونَ
yafqahūnathey understand
بِهَا
bihāwith them
وَلَهُمْ
walahumand for them
أَعْيُنٌۭ
aʿyunun(are) eyes
لَّا
(but) not
يُبْصِرُونَ
yub'ṣirūnathey see
بِهَا
bihāwith them
وَلَهُمْ
walahumand for them
ءَاذَانٌۭ
ādhānun(are) ears
لَّا
(but) not
يَسْمَعُونَ
yasmaʿūnathey hear
بِهَآ ۚ
bihāwith them
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāikaThose
كَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ
kal-anʿāmi(are) like cattle
بَلْ
balnay
هُمْ
humthey
أَضَلُّ ۚ
aḍallu(are) more astray
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāikaThose
هُمُ
humuthey
ٱلْغَـٰفِلُونَ
l-ghāfilūna(are) the heedless
١٧٩
(179)
And We have certainly created for Hell many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. Those are like livestock; rather, they are more astray. It is they who are the heedless.

وَلِلَّهِ
walillahiAnd for Allah
ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ
l-asmāu(are) the names
ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ
l-ḥus'nāthe most beautiful
فَٱدْعُوهُ
fa-id'ʿūhuso invoke Him
بِهَا ۖ
bihāby them
وَذَرُوا۟
wadharūAnd leave
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
يُلْحِدُونَ
yul'ḥidūnadeviate
فِىٓ
concerning
أَسْمَـٰٓئِهِۦ ۚ
asmāihiHis names
سَيُجْزَوْنَ
sayuj'zawnaThey will be recompensed
مَا
for what
كَانُوا۟
kānūthey used to
يَعْمَلُونَ
yaʿmalūnado
١٨٠
(180)
And to Allāh belong the best names, so invoke Him by them. And leave [the company of] those who practice deviation concerning His names. They will be recompensed for what they have been doing.

وَمِمَّنْ
wamimmanAnd of (those) whom
خَلَقْنَآ
khalaqnāWe have created
أُمَّةٌۭ
ummatun(is) a nation
يَهْدُونَ
yahdūnawho guides
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqiwith the truth
وَبِهِۦ
wabihiand thereby
يَعْدِلُونَ
yaʿdilūnathey establish justice
١٨١
(181)
And among those We created is a community which guides by truth and thereby establishes justice.

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaBut those who
كَذَّبُوا۟
kadhabūdenied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا
biāyātināOur Signs
سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم
sanastadrijuhumWe will gradually lead them
مِّنْ
minfrom
حَيْثُ
ḥaythuwhere
لَا
not
يَعْلَمُونَ
yaʿlamūnathey know
١٨٢
(182)
But those who deny Our signs - We will progressively lead them [to destruction] from where they do not know.

وَأُمْلِى
wa-um'līAnd I will give respite
لَهُمْ ۚ
lahumto them
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
كَيْدِى
kaydīMy plan
مَتِينٌ
matīnun(is) firm
١٨٣
(183)
And I will give them time. Indeed, My plan is firm.

أَوَلَمْ
awalamDo not
يَتَفَكَّرُوا۟ ۗ
yatafakkarūthey reflect
مَا
Not
بِصَاحِبِهِم
biṣāḥibihimin their companion
مِّن
min[of]
جِنَّةٍ ۚ
jinnatin(is) any madness
إِنْ
inNot
هُوَ
huwahe
إِلَّا
illā(is) but
نَذِيرٌۭ
nadhīruna warner
مُّبِينٌ
mubīnunclear
١٨٤
(184)
Then do they not give thought? There is in their companion [i.e., Muḥammad (ﷺ)] no madness. He is not but a clear warner.

يَنظُرُوا۟

فِى

مَلَكُوتِ
malakūti(the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
wal-arḍiand the earth
وَمَا
wamāand what
خَلَقَ
khalaqahas (been) created
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu(by) Allah
مِن
minof
شَىْءٍۢ
shayin(every)thing
وَأَنْ
wa-anand that
عَسَىٰٓ
ʿasāperhaps
أَن
an[that]
يَكُونَ
yakūnahas
قَدِ
qadiverily
ٱقْتَرَبَ
iq'tarabacome near
أَجَلُهُمْ ۖ
ajaluhumtheir term
فَبِأَىِّ
fabi-ayyiSo in what
حَدِيثٍۭ
ḥadīthinstatement
بَعْدَهُۥ
baʿdahuafter this
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūnawill they believe
١٨٥
(185)
Do they not look into the realm of the heavens and the earth and everything that Allāh has created and [think] that perhaps their appointed time has come near? So in what statement [i.e., message] hereafter will they believe?

يُضْلِلِ
yuḍ'lili(is) let go astray
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu(by) Allah
فَلَا
falāthen (there is) no
هَادِىَ
hādiyaguide
لَهُۥ ۚ
lahufor him
وَيَذَرُهُمْ
wayadharuhumAnd He leaves them
فِى
in
طُغْيَـٰنِهِمْ
ṭugh'yānihimtheir transgression
يَعْمَهُونَ
yaʿmahūnawandering blindly
١٨٦
(186)
Whoever Allāh sends astray - there is no guide for him. And He leaves them in their transgression, wandering blindly.

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ
yasalūnakaThey ask you
عَنِ
ʿaniabout
ٱلسَّاعَةِ
l-sāʿatithe Hour
أَيَّانَ
ayyānawhen will be
مُرْسَىٰهَا ۖ
mur'sāhāits appointed time
قُلْ
qulSay
إِنَّمَا
innamāOnly
عِلْمُهَا
ʿil'muhāits knowledge
عِندَ
ʿinda(is) with
رَبِّى ۖ
rabbīmy Lord
لَا
no (one)
يُجَلِّيهَا
yujallīhācan reveal [it]
لِوَقْتِهَآ
liwaqtihāits time
إِلَّا
illāexcept
هُوَ ۚ
huwaHim
ثَقُلَتْ
thaqulatIt lays heavily
فِى
in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
l-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ
wal-arḍiand the earth
لَا
Not
تَأْتِيكُمْ
tatīkumwill it come to you
إِلَّا
illābut
بَغْتَةًۭ ۗ
baghtatansuddenly
يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ
yasalūnakaThey ask you
كَأَنَّكَ
ka-annakaas if you
حَفِىٌّ
ḥafiyyun(were) well informed
عَنْهَا ۖ
ʿanhāabout it
قُلْ
qulSay
إِنَّمَا
innamāOnly
عِلْمُهَا
ʿil'muhāits knowledge
عِندَ
ʿinda(is) with
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
walākinnabut
أَكْثَرَ
aktharamost
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsi(of) the people
لَا
(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَ
yaʿlamūnaknow
١٨٧
(187)
They ask you, [O Muḥammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival? Say, "Its knowledge is only with my Lord. None will reveal its time except Him. It lays heavily upon the heavens and the earth. It will not come upon you except unexpectedly." They ask you as if you are familiar with it. Say, "Its knowledge is only with Allāh, but most of the people do not know."

لِنَفْسِى

نَفْعًۭا
nafʿan(to) benefit
وَلَا
walāand no
ضَرًّا
ḍarran(power to) harm
إِلَّا
illāexcept
مَا
what
شَآءَ
shāawills
ٱللَّهُ ۚ
l-lahuAllah
وَلَوْ
walawAnd if
كُنتُ
kuntuI would
أَعْلَمُ
aʿlamuknow
ٱلْغَيْبَ
l-ghayba(of) the unseen
لَٱسْتَكْثَرْتُ
la-is'takthartusurely I could have multiplied
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْخَيْرِ
l-khayrithe good
وَمَا
wamāand not
مَسَّنِىَ
massaniya(could) have touched me
ٱلسُّوٓءُ ۚ
l-sūuthe evil
إِنْ
inNot
أَنَا۠
anā(am) I
إِلَّا
illāexcept
نَذِيرٌۭ
nadhīruna warner
وَبَشِيرٌۭ
wabashīrunand a bearer of good tidings
لِّقَوْمٍۢ
liqawminto a people
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūnawho believe
١٨٨
(188)
Say, "I hold not for myself [the power of] benefit or harm, except what Allāh has willed. And if I knew the unseen, I could have acquired much wealth, and no harm would have touched me. I am not except a warner and a bringer of good tidings to a people who believe."

huwaHe
ٱلَّذِى
alladhī(is) the One Who
خَلَقَكُم
khalaqakumcreated you
مِّن
minfrom
نَّفْسٍۢ
nafsina soul
وَٰحِدَةٍۢ
wāḥidatinsingle
وَجَعَلَ
wajaʿalaand made
مِنْهَا
min'hāfrom it
زَوْجَهَا
zawjahāits mate
لِيَسْكُنَ
liyaskunathat he might live
إِلَيْهَا ۖ
ilayhāwith her
فَلَمَّا
falammāAnd when
تَغَشَّىٰهَا
taghashāhāhe covers her
حَمَلَتْ
ḥamalatshe carries
حَمْلًا
ḥamlana burden
خَفِيفًۭا
khafīfanlight
فَمَرَّتْ
famarratand continues
بِهِۦ ۖ
bihiwith it
فَلَمَّآ
falammāBut when
أَثْقَلَت
athqalatshe grows heavy
دَّعَوَا
daʿawāthey both invoke
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
رَبَّهُمَا
rabbahumātheir Lord
لَئِنْ
la-inIf
ءَاتَيْتَنَا
ātaytanāYou give us
صَـٰلِحًۭا
ṣāliḥana righteous (child)
لَّنَكُونَنَّ
lanakūnannasurely we will be
مِنَ
minaamong
ٱلشَّـٰكِرِينَ
l-shākirīnathe thankful
١٨٩
(189)
It is He who created you from one soul and created from it its mate that he might dwell in security with her. And when he [i.e., man] covers her, she carries a light burden [i.e., a pregnancy] and continues therein. And when it becomes heavy, they both invoke Allāh, their Lord, "If You should give us a good [child], we will surely be among the grateful."

فَلَمَّآ
falammāBut when
ءَاتَىٰهُمَا
ātāhumāHe gives them
صَـٰلِحًۭا
ṣāliḥana good, (child)
جَعَلَا
jaʿalāthey make
لَهُۥ
lahufor Him
شُرَكَآءَ
shurakāapartners
فِيمَآ
fīmāin what
ءَاتَىٰهُمَا ۚ
ātāhumāHe has given them
فَتَعَـٰلَى
fataʿālāBut exalted
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu(is) Allah
عَمَّا
ʿammāabove what
يُشْرِكُونَ
yush'rikūnathey associate (with Him)
١٩٠
(190)
But when He gives them a good [child], they ascribe partners to Him concerning that which He has given them. Exalted is Allāh above what they associate with Him.

وَهُمْ

(191)
Do they associate with Him those who create nothing and they are [themselves] created?

يَسْتَطِيعُونَ
yastaṭīʿūnathey are able
لَهُمْ
lahumto (give) them
نَصْرًۭا
naṣranany help
وَلَآ
walāand not
أَنفُسَهُمْ
anfusahumthemselves
يَنصُرُونَ
yanṣurūnacan they help
١٩٢
(192)
And they [i.e., the false deities] are unable to [give] them help, nor can they help themselves.

تَدْعُوهُمْ
tadʿūhumyou call them
إِلَى
ilāto
ٱلْهُدَىٰ
l-hudāthe guidance
لَا
not
يَتَّبِعُوكُمْ ۚ
yattabiʿūkumwill they follow you
سَوَآءٌ
sawāon(It is) same
عَلَيْكُمْ
ʿalaykumfor you
أَدَعَوْتُمُوهُمْ
adaʿawtumūhumwhether you call them
أَمْ
amor
أَنتُمْ
antumyou
صَـٰمِتُونَ
ṣāmitūnaremain silent
١٩٣
(193)
And if you [believers] invite them to guidance, they will not follow you. It is all the same for you whether you invite them or you are silent.

إِنَّ

ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose whom
تَدْعُونَ
tadʿūnayou call
مِن
minfrom
دُونِ
dūnibesides
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
عِبَادٌ
ʿibādun(are) slaves
أَمْثَالُكُمْ ۖ
amthālukumlike you
فَٱدْعُوهُمْ
fa-id'ʿūhumSo invoke them
فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا۟
falyastajībūand let them respond
لَكُمْ
lakumto you
إِن
inif
كُنتُمْ
kuntumyou are
صَـٰدِقِينَ
ṣādiqīnatruthful
١٩٤
(194)
Indeed, those you [polytheists] call upon besides Allāh are servants [i.e., creations] like you. So call upon them and let them respond to you, if you should be truthful.

بِهَآ ۖ

أَمْ

لَهُمْ

ءَاذَانٌۭ
ādhānunears
يَسْمَعُونَ
yasmaʿūna(to) hear
بِهَا ۗ
bihāwith [it]
قُلِ
quliSay
ٱدْعُوا۟
id'ʿūCall
شُرَكَآءَكُمْ
shurakāakumyour partners
ثُمَّ
thummathen
كِيدُونِ
kīdūnischeme against me
فَلَا
falāand (do) not
تُنظِرُونِ
tunẓirūnigive me respite

(195)
Do they have feet by which they walk? Or do they have hands by which they strike? Or do they have eyes by which they see? Or do they have ears by which they hear? Say, [O Muḥammad], "Call your 'partners' and then conspire against me and give me no respite.

إِنَّ
innaIndeed
وَلِـِّۧىَ
waliyyiyamy protector
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu(is) Allah
ٱلَّذِى
alladhīthe One Who
نَزَّلَ
nazzalarevealed
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ۖ
l-kitābathe Book
وَهُوَ
wahuwaAnd He
يَتَوَلَّى
yatawallāprotects
ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
l-ṣāliḥīnathe righteous
١٩٦
(196)
Indeed, my protector is Allāh, who has sent down the Book; and He is an ally to the righteous.

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaAnd those whom
تَدْعُونَ
tadʿūnayou invoke
مِن
minfrom
دُونِهِۦ
dūnihibesides Him
لَا
not
يَسْتَطِيعُونَ
yastaṭīʿūnathey are able
نَصْرَكُمْ
naṣrakum(to) help you
وَلَآ
walāand not
أَنفُسَهُمْ
anfusahumthemselves
يَنصُرُونَ
yanṣurūnacan they help
١٩٧
(197)
And those you call upon besides Him are unable to help you, nor can they help themselves."

وَإِن
wa-inAnd if
تَدْعُوهُمْ
tadʿūhumyou call them
إِلَى
ilāto
ٱلْهُدَىٰ
l-hudāthe guidance
لَا
not
يَسْمَعُوا۟ ۖ
yasmaʿūdo they not
وَتَرَىٰهُمْ
watarāhumAnd you see them
يَنظُرُونَ
yanẓurūnalooking
إِلَيْكَ
ilaykaat you
وَهُمْ
wahumbut they
لَا
not
يُبْصِرُونَ
yub'ṣirūna(do) they see
١٩٨
(198)
And if you invite them to guidance, they do not hear; and you see them looking at you while they do not see.

خُذِ
khudhiHold
ٱلْعَفْوَ
l-ʿafwa(to) forgiveness
وَأْمُرْ
wamurand enjoin
بِٱلْعُرْفِ
bil-ʿur'fithe good
وَأَعْرِضْ
wa-aʿriḍand turn away
عَنِ
ʿanifrom
ٱلْجَـٰهِلِينَ
l-jāhilīnathe ignorant
١٩٩
(199)
Take what is given freely, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the ignorant.

وَإِمَّا
wa-immāAnd if
يَنزَغَنَّكَ
yanzaghannakaan evil suggestion comes to you
مِنَ
minafrom
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ
l-shayṭāni[the] Shaitaan
نَزْغٌۭ
nazghun[an evil suggestion]
فَٱسْتَعِذْ
fa-is'taʿidhthen seek refuge
بِٱللَّهِ ۚ
bil-lahiin Allah
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, He
سَمِيعٌ
samīʿun(is) All-Hearing
عَلِيمٌ
ʿalīmunAll-Knowing
٢٠٠
(200)
And if an evil suggestion comes to you from Satan, then seek refuge in Allāh. Indeed, He is Hearing and Knowing.

إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
ٱتَّقَوْا۟
ittaqawfear (Allah)
إِذَا
idhāwhen
مَسَّهُمْ
massahumtouches them
طَـٰٓئِفٌۭ
ṭāifunan evil thought
مِّنَ
minafrom
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ
l-shayṭānithe Shaitaan
تَذَكَّرُوا۟
tadhakkarūthey remember (Allah)
فَإِذَا
fa-idhāand then
هُم
humthey
مُّبْصِرُونَ
mub'ṣirūna(are) those who see (aright)
٢٠١
(201)
Indeed, those who fear Allāh - when an impulse touches them from Satan, they remember [Him] and at once they have insight.

وَإِخْوَٰنُهُمْ
wa-ikh'wānuhumBut their brothers
يَمُدُّونَهُمْ
yamuddūnahumthey plunge them
فِى
in
ٱلْغَىِّ
l-ghayithe error
ثُمَّ
thummathen
لَا
not
يُقْصِرُونَ
yuq'ṣirūnathey cease
٢٠٢
(202)
But their brothers - they [i.e., the devils] increase them in error; then they do not stop short.

وَإِذَا
wa-idhāAnd when
لَمْ
lamnot
تَأْتِهِم
tatihimyou bring them
بِـَٔايَةٍۢ
biāyatina Sign
قَالُوا۟
qālūthey say
لَوْلَا
lawlāWhy (have) not
ٱجْتَبَيْتَهَا ۚ
ij'tabaytahāyou devised it
قُلْ
qulSay
إِنَّمَآ
innamāOnly
أَتَّبِعُ
attabiʿuI follow
مَا
what
يُوحَىٰٓ
yūḥāis revealed
إِلَىَّ
ilayyato me
مِن
minfrom
رَّبِّى ۚ
rabbīmy Lord
هَـٰذَا
hādhāThis (is)
بَصَآئِرُ
baṣāiruenlightenment
مِن
minfrom
رَّبِّكُمْ
rabbikumyour Lord
وَهُدًۭى
wahudanand guidance
وَرَحْمَةٌۭ
waraḥmatunand mercy
لِّقَوْمٍۢ
liqawminfor a people
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūnawho believe
٢٠٣
(203)
And when you, [O Muḥammad], do not bring them a sign [i.e., miracle], they say, "Why have you not contrived it?" Say, "I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This [Qur’ān] is enlightenment from your Lord and guidance and mercy for a people who believe."

wa-idhāAnd when
قُرِئَ
quri-ais recited
ٱلْقُرْءَانُ
l-qur'ānuthe Quran
فَٱسْتَمِعُوا۟
fa-is'tamiʿūthen listen
لَهُۥ
lahuto it
وَأَنصِتُوا۟
wa-anṣitūand pay attention
لَعَلَّكُمْ
laʿallakumso that you may
تُرْحَمُونَ
tur'ḥamūnareceive mercy
٢٠٤
(204)
So when the Qur’ān is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy.

وَٱذْكُر
wa-udh'kurAnd remember
رَّبَّكَ
rabbakayour Lord
فِى
in
نَفْسِكَ
nafsikayourself
تَضَرُّعًۭا
taḍarruʿanhumbly
وَخِيفَةًۭ
wakhīfatanand (in) fear
وَدُونَ
wadūnaand without
ٱلْجَهْرِ
l-jahrithe loudness
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْقَوْلِ
l-qawli[the] words
بِٱلْغُدُوِّ
bil-ghuduwiin the mornings
وَٱلْـَٔاصَالِ
wal-āṣāliand (in) the evenings
وَلَا
walāAnd (do) not
تَكُن
takunbe
مِّنَ
minaamong
ٱلْغَـٰفِلِينَ
l-ghāfilīnathe heedless
٢٠٥
(205)
And remember your Lord within yourself in humility and in fear without being apparent in speech - in the mornings and the evenings. And do not be among the heedless.

إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
عِندَ
ʿinda(are) near
رَبِّكَ
rabbikayour Lord
لَا
not
يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ
yastakbirūna(do) they turn away in pride
عَنْ
ʿanfrom
عِبَادَتِهِۦ
ʿibādatihiHis worship
وَيُسَبِّحُونَهُۥ
wayusabbiḥūnahuAnd they glorify Him
وَلَهُۥ
walahuand to Him
يَسْجُدُونَ ۩
yasjudūnathey prostrate
٢٠٦
(206)
Indeed, those who are near your Lord [i.e., the angels] are not prevented by arrogance from His worship, and they exalt Him, and to Him they prostrate.
