يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ
yasalūnakaThey ask you
عَنِ
ʿaniabout
ٱلْأَنفَالِ ۖ
l-anfālithe spoils of war
قُلِ
quliSay
ٱلْأَنفَالُ
l-anfāluThe spoils of war
لِلَّهِ
lillahi(are) for Allah
وَٱلرَّسُولِ ۖ
wal-rasūliand the Messenger
فَٱتَّقُوا۟
fa-ittaqūSo fear
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
وَأَصْلِحُوا۟
wa-aṣliḥūand set right
ذَاتَ
dhātathat
بَيْنِكُمْ ۖ
baynikum(which is) between you
وَأَطِيعُوا۟
wa-aṭīʿūand obey
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
وَرَسُولَهُۥٓ
warasūlahuand His Messenger
إِن
inif
كُنتُم
kuntumyou are
مُّؤْمِنِينَ
mu'minīnabelievers
١
(1)
They ask you, [O Muḥammad], about the bounties [of war]. Say, "The [decision concerning] bounties is for Allāh and the Messenger." So fear Allāh and amend that which is between you and obey Allāh and His Messenger, if you should be believers.

إِنَّمَا
innamāOnly
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
l-mu'minūnathe believers
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna(are) those who
إِذَا
idhāwhen
ذُكِرَ
dhukirais mentioned
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
وَجِلَتْ
wajilatfeel fear
قُلُوبُهُمْ
qulūbuhumtheir hearts
وَإِذَا
wa-idhāand when
تُلِيَتْ
tuliyatare recited
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhimto them
ءَايَـٰتُهُۥ
āyātuhuHis Verses
زَادَتْهُمْ
zādathumthey increase them
إِيمَـٰنًۭا
īmānan(in) faith
وَعَلَىٰ
waʿalāand upon
رَبِّهِمْ
rabbihimtheir Lord
يَتَوَكَّلُونَ
yatawakkalūnathey put their trust
٢
(2)
The believers are only those who, when Allāh is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely -

ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnaThose who
يُقِيمُونَ
yuqīmūnaestablish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
l-ṣalatathe prayer
وَمِمَّا
wamimmāand out of what
رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ
razaqnāhumWe have provided them
يُنفِقُونَ
yunfiqūnathey spend
٣
(3)
The ones who establish prayer, and from what We have provided them, they spend.

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāikaThose
هُمُ
humuthey are
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
l-mu'minūnathe believers
حَقًّۭا ۚ
ḥaqqan(in) truth
لَّهُمْ
lahumFor them
دَرَجَـٰتٌ
darajātun(are) ranks
عِندَ
ʿindawith
رَبِّهِمْ
rabbihimtheir Lord
وَمَغْفِرَةٌۭ
wamaghfiratunand forgiveness
وَرِزْقٌۭ
wariz'qunand a provision
كَرِيمٌۭ
karīmunnoble
٤
(4)
Those are the believers, truly. For them are degrees [of high position] with their Lord and forgiveness and noble provision.

كَمَآ
kamāAs
أَخْرَجَكَ
akhrajakabrought you out
رَبُّكَ
rabbukayour Lord
مِنۢ
minfrom
بَيْتِكَ
baytikayour home
بِٱلْحَقِّ
bil-ḥaqiin truth
وَإِنَّ
wa-innawhile indeed
فَرِيقًۭا
farīqana party
مِّنَ
minaamong
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
l-mu'minīnathe believers
لَكَـٰرِهُونَ
lakārihūnacertainly disliked
٥
(5)
[It is] just as when your Lord brought you out of your home [for the battle of Badr] in truth, while indeed, a party among the believers were unwilling,

يُجَـٰدِلُونَكَ
yujādilūnakaThey dispute with you
فِى
concerning
ٱلْحَقِّ
l-ḥaqithe truth
بَعْدَ
baʿdamāafter what
مَا
تَبَيَّنَ
baʿdamāwas made clear
كَأَنَّمَا
tabayyanaas if
يُسَاقُونَ
ka-annamāthey were driven
إِلَى
yusāqūnato
ٱلْمَوْتِ
ilā[the] death
وَهُمْ
l-mawtiwhile they
يَنظُرُونَ
wahum(were) looking
٦
(6)
Arguing with you concerning the truth after it had become clear, as if they were being driven toward death while they were looking on.

وَإِذْ
wa-idhAnd when
يَعِدُكُمُ
yaʿidukumupromised you
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
إِحْدَى
iḥ'dāone
ٱلطَّآئِفَتَيْنِ
l-ṭāifatayni(of) the two groups
أَنَّهَا
annahāthat it (would be)
لَكُمْ
lakumfor you
وَتَوَدُّونَ
watawaddūnaand you wished
أَنَّ
annathat
غَيْرَ
ghayra(one) other than
ذَاتِ
dhātithat
ٱلشَّوْكَةِ
l-shawkati(of) the armed
تَكُونُ
takūnuwould be
لَكُمْ
lakumfor you
وَيُرِيدُ
wayurīduBut intended
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
أَن
anto
يُحِقَّ
yuḥiqqajustify
ٱلْحَقَّ
l-ḥaqathe truth
بِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ
bikalimātihiby His words
وَيَقْطَعَ
wayaqṭaʿaand cut off
دَابِرَ
dābira(the) roots
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
l-kāfirīna(of) the disbelievers
٧
(7)
[Remember, O believers], when Allāh promised you one of the two groups - that it would be yours - and you wished that the unarmed one would be yours. But Allāh intended to establish the truth by His words and to eliminate the disbelievers

لِيُحِقَّ
liyuḥiqqaThat He might justify
ٱلْحَقَّ
l-ḥaqathe truth
وَيُبْطِلَ
wayub'ṭilaand prove false
ٱلْبَـٰطِلَ
l-bāṭilathe falsehood
وَلَوْ
walaweven if
كَرِهَ
karihadisliked (it)
ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ
l-muj'rimūnathe criminals
٨
(8)
That He should establish the truth and abolish falsehood, even if the criminals disliked it.

إِذْ
idhWhen
تَسْتَغِيثُونَ
tastaghīthūnayou were seeking help
رَبَّكُمْ
rabbakum(of) your Lord
فَٱسْتَجَابَ
fa-is'tajābaand He answered
لَكُمْ
lakum[to] you
أَنِّى
annīIndeed, I am
مُمِدُّكُم
mumiddukumgoing to reinforce you
بِأَلْفٍۢ
bi-alfinwith a thousand
مِّنَ
minaof
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ
l-malāikatithe Angels
مُرْدِفِينَ
mur'difīnaone after another
٩
(9)
[Remember] when you were asking help of your Lord, and He answered you, "Indeed, I will reinforce you with a thousand from the angels, following one another."

وَمَا
wamāAnd not
جَعَلَهُ
jaʿalahu(it was) made
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu(by) Allah
إِلَّا
illābut
بُشْرَىٰ
bush'rāgood tidings
وَلِتَطْمَئِنَّ
walitaṭma-innaand so that might be at rest
بِهِۦ
bihiwith it
قُلُوبُكُمْ ۚ
qulūbukumyour hearts
وَمَا
wamāAnd (there is) no
ٱلنَّصْرُ
l-naṣru[the] victory
إِلَّا
illāexcept
مِنْ
minfrom
عِندِ
ʿindi[of]
ٱللَّهِ ۚ
l-lahiAllah
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
عَزِيزٌ
ʿazīzun(is) All-Mighty
حَكِيمٌ
ḥakīmunAll-Wise
١٠
(10)
And Allāh made it not but good tidings and so that your hearts would be assured thereby. And victory is not but from Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.

إِذْ
idhWhen
يُغَشِّيكُمُ
yughashīkumuHe covered you
ٱلنُّعَاسَ
l-nuʿāsawith [the] slumber
أَمَنَةًۭ
amanatana security
مِّنْهُ
min'hufrom Him
وَيُنَزِّلُ
wayunazziluand sent down
عَلَيْكُم
ʿalaykumupon you
مِّنَ
minafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāithe sky
مَآءًۭ
māanwater
لِّيُطَهِّرَكُم
liyuṭahhirakumso that He may purify you
بِهِۦ
bihiwith it
وَيُذْهِبَ
wayudh'hibaand take away
عَنكُمْ
ʿankumfrom you
رِجْزَ
rij'zaevil (suggestions)
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ
l-shayṭāni(of) the Shaitaan
وَلِيَرْبِطَ
waliyarbiṭaAnd to strengthen
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā[on]
قُلُوبِكُمْ
qulūbikumyour hearts
وَيُثَبِّتَ
wayuthabbitaand make firm
بِهِ
bihiwith it
ٱلْأَقْدَامَ
l-aqdāmayour feet
١١
(11)
[Remember] when He overwhelmed you with drowsiness [giving] security from Him and sent down upon you from the sky, rain by which to purify you and remove from you the evil [suggestions] of Satan and to make steadfast your hearts and plant firmly thereby your feet.

إِذْ

يُوحِى
yūḥīinspired
رَبُّكَ
rabbukayour Lord
إِلَى
ilāto
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ
l-malāikatithe Angels
أَنِّى
annīI am
مَعَكُمْ
maʿakumwith you
فَثَبِّتُوا۟
fathabbitūso strengthen
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟ ۚ
āmanūbelieved
سَأُلْقِى
sa-ul'qīI will cast
فِى
in
قُلُوبِ
qulūbi(the) hearts
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieved
ٱلرُّعْبَ
l-ruʿ'bathe terror
فَٱضْرِبُوا۟
fa-iḍ'ribūso strike
فَوْقَ
fawqaabove
ٱلْأَعْنَاقِ
l-aʿnāqithe necks
وَٱضْرِبُوا۟
wa-iḍ'ribūand strike
مِنْهُمْ
min'humfrom them
كُلَّ
kullaevery
بَنَانٍۢ
banāninfingertip[s]
١٢
(12)
[Remember] when your Lord inspired to the angels, "I am with you, so strengthen those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved, so strike [them] upon the necks and strike from them every fingertip."

ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
بِأَنَّهُمْ
bi-annahum(is) because they
شَآقُّوا۟
shāqqūopposed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
وَرَسُولَهُۥ ۚ
warasūlahuand His Messenger
وَمَن
wamanAnd whoever
يُشَاقِقِ
yushāqiqiopposes
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
وَرَسُولَهُۥ
warasūlahuand His Messenger
فَإِنَّ
fa-innathen indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
شَدِيدُ
shadīdu(is) severe
ٱلْعِقَابِ
l-ʿiqābiin [the] penalty
١٣
(13)
That is because they opposed Allāh and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allāh and His Messenger - indeed, Allāh is severe in penalty.

ذَٰلِكُمْ
dhālikumThat
فَذُوقُوهُ
fadhūqūhuSo taste it
وَأَنَّ
wa-annaAnd that
لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
lil'kāfirīnafor the disbelievers
عَذَابَ
ʿadhāba(is the) punishment
ٱلنَّارِ
l-nāri(of) the Fire
١٤
(14)
"That [is yours], so taste it." And indeed for the disbelievers is the punishment of the Fire.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who(believe)
ءَامَنُوٓا۟
āmanūbelieve
إِذَا
idhāWhen
لَقِيتُمُ
laqītumuyou meet
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
زَحْفًۭا
zaḥfanadvancing
فَلَا
falāthen (do) not
تُوَلُّوهُمُ
tuwallūhumuturn to them
ٱلْأَدْبَارَ
l-adbārathe backs
١٥
(15)
O you who have believed, when you meet those who disbelieve advancing [in battle], do not turn to them your backs [in flight].

وَمَن
wamanAnd whoever
يُوَلِّهِمْ
yuwallihimturns to them
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ
yawma-idhinthat day
دُبُرَهُۥٓ
duburahuhis back
إِلَّا
illāexcept
مُتَحَرِّفًۭا
mutaḥarrifan(as) a strategy
لِّقِتَالٍ
liqitālinof war
أَوْ
awor
مُتَحَيِّزًا
mutaḥayyizan(to) join
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
فِئَةٍۢ
fi-atina group
فَقَدْ
faqadcertainly
بَآءَ
bāa(he has) incurred
بِغَضَبٍۢ
bighaḍabinwrath
مِّنَ
minaof
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
وَمَأْوَىٰهُ
wamawāhuand his abode
جَهَنَّمُ ۖ
jahannamu(is) Hell
وَبِئْسَ
wabi'saa wretched
ٱلْمَصِيرُ
l-maṣīrudestination
١٦
(16)
And whoever turns his back to them on such a day, unless swerving [as a strategy] for war or joining [another] company, has certainly returned with anger [upon him] from Allāh, and his refuge is Hell - and wretched is the destination.

فَلَمْ
falamAnd not
تَقْتُلُوهُمْ
taqtulūhumyou kill them
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
walākinnabut
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
قَتَلَهُمْ ۚ
qatalahumkilled them
وَمَا
wamāAnd not
رَمَيْتَ
ramaytayou threw
إِذْ
idhwhen
رَمَيْتَ
ramaytayou threw
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
walākinnabut
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
رَمَىٰ ۚ
ramāthrew
وَلِيُبْلِىَ
waliyub'liyaand that He may test
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
l-mu'minīnathe believers
مِنْهُ
min'hufrom Him
بَلَآءً
balāan(with) a trial
حَسَنًا ۚ
ḥasanangood
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
سَمِيعٌ
samīʿun(is) All-Hearing
عَلِيمٌۭ
ʿalīmunAll-Knowing
١٧
(17)
And you did not kill them, but it was Allāh who killed them. And you threw not, [O Muḥammad], when you threw, but it was Allāh who threw that He might test the believers with a good test. Indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.

ذَٰلِكُمْ
dhālikumThat (is the case)
وَأَنَّ
wa-annaand that
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah (is)
مُوهِنُ
mūhinuone who makes weak
كَيْدِ
kaydi(the) plan
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
l-kāfirīna(of) the disbelievers
١٨
(18)
That [is so], and [also] that Allāh will weaken the plot of the disbelievers.

إِن
inIf
تَسْتَفْتِحُوا۟
tastaftiḥūyou ask for victory
فَقَدْ
faqadthen certainly
جَآءَكُمُ
jāakumuhas come to you
ٱلْفَتْحُ ۖ
l-fatḥuthe victory
وَإِن
wa-inAnd if
تَنتَهُوا۟
tantahūyou desist
فَهُوَ
fahuwathen it (is)
خَيْرٌۭ
khayrungood
لَّكُمْ ۖ
lakumfor you
وَإِن
wa-inbut if
تَعُودُوا۟
taʿūdūyou return
نَعُدْ
naʿudWe will return (too)
وَلَن
walanAnd never
تُغْنِىَ
tugh'niyawill avail
عَنكُمْ
ʿankumyou
فِئَتُكُمْ
fi-atukumyour forces
شَيْـًۭٔا
shayananything
وَلَوْ
walaweven if
كَثُرَتْ
kathurat(they are) numerous
وَأَنَّ
wa-annaAnd that
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
مَعَ
maʿa(is) with
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
l-mu'minīnathe believers
١٩
(19)
If you [disbelievers] seek the decision [i.e., victory] - the decision [i.e., defeat] has come to you. And if you desist [from hostilities], it is best for you; but if you return [to war], We will return, and never will you be availed by your [large] company at all, even if it should increase; and [that is] because Allāh is with the believers.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who(believe)
ءَامَنُوٓا۟
āmanūbelieve
أَطِيعُوا۟
aṭīʿūObey
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
وَرَسُولَهُۥ
warasūlahuand His Messenger
وَلَا
walāAnd (do) not
تَوَلَّوْا۟
tawallawturn away
عَنْهُ
ʿanhufrom him
وَأَنتُمْ
wa-antumwhile you
تَسْمَعُونَ
tasmaʿūnahear
٢٠
(20)
O you who have believed, obey Allāh and His Messenger and do not turn from him while you hear [his order].

وَلَا
walāAnd (do) not
تَكُونُوا۟
takūnūbe
كَٱلَّذِينَ
ka-alladhīnalike those who
قَالُوا۟
qālūsay
سَمِعْنَا
samiʿ'nāWe heard
وَهُمْ
wahumwhile they
لَا
(do) not
يَسْمَعُونَ
yasmaʿūnahear
٢١
(21)
And do not be like those who say, "We have heard," while they do not hear.

۞ إِنَّ
innaIndeed
شَرَّ
sharraworst
ٱلدَّوَآبِّ
l-dawābi(of) the living creatures
عِندَ
ʿindanear
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
ٱلصُّمُّ
l-ṣumu(are) the deaf
ٱلْبُكْمُ
l-buk'muthe dumb
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
لَا
(do) not
يَعْقِلُونَ
yaʿqilūnause (their) intellect
٢٢
(22)
Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allāh are the deaf and dumb who do not use reason [i.e., the disbelievers].

وَلَوْ
walawAnd if
عَلِمَ
ʿalima(had) known
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
فِيهِمْ
fīhimin them
خَيْرًۭا
khayranany good
لَّأَسْمَعَهُمْ ۖ
la-asmaʿahumsurely, He (would) have made them hear
وَلَوْ
walawAnd if
أَسْمَعَهُمْ
asmaʿahumHe had made them hear
لَتَوَلَّوا۟
latawallawsurely they would have turned away
وَّهُم
wahumwhile they
مُّعْرِضُونَ
muʿ'riḍūna(were) averse
٢٣
(23)
Had Allāh known any good in them, He would have made them hear. And if He had made them hear, they would [still] have turned away, while they were refusing.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who(believe)
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieve
ٱسْتَجِيبُوا۟
is'tajībūRespond
لِلَّهِ
lillahito Allah
وَلِلرَّسُولِ
walilrrasūliand His Messenger
إِذَا
idhāwhen
دَعَاكُمْ
daʿākumhe calls you
لِمَا
limāto what
يُحْيِيكُمْ ۖ
yuḥ'yīkumgives you life
وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟
wa-iʿ'lamūAnd know
أَنَّ
annathat
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
يَحُولُ
yaḥūlucomes
بَيْنَ
bayna(in) between
ٱلْمَرْءِ
l-maria man
وَقَلْبِهِۦ
waqalbihiand his heart
وَأَنَّهُۥٓ
wa-annahuand that
إِلَيْهِ
ilayhito Him
تُحْشَرُونَ
tuḥ'sharūnayou will be gathered
٢٤
(24)
O you who have believed, respond to Allāh and to the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life. And know that Allāh intervenes between a man and his heart and that to Him you will be gathered.

وَٱتَّقُوا۟
wa-ittaqūAnd fear
فِتْنَةًۭ
fit'natana trial
لَّا
not
تُصِيبَنَّ
tuṣībannawhich will afflict
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
ظَلَمُوا۟
ẓalamūdo wrong
مِنكُمْ
minkumamong you
خَآصَّةًۭ ۖ
khāṣṣatanexclusively
وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟
wa-iʿ'lamūAnd know
أَنَّ
annathat
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
شَدِيدُ
shadīdu(is) severe
ٱلْعِقَابِ
l-ʿiqābi(in) the penalty
٢٥
(25)
And fear a trial which will not strike those who have wronged among you exclusively, and know that Allāh is severe in penalty.

وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟
wa-udh'kurūAnd remember
إِذْ
idhwhen
أَنتُمْ
antumyou
قَلِيلٌۭ
qalīlun(were) few
مُّسْتَضْعَفُونَ
mus'taḍʿafūna(and) deemed weak
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
تَخَافُونَ
takhāfūnafearing
أَن
anthat
يَتَخَطَّفَكُمُ
yatakhaṭṭafakumumight do away with you
ٱلنَّاسُ
l-nāsuthe men
فَـَٔاوَىٰكُمْ
faāwākumthen He sheltered you
وَأَيَّدَكُم
wa-ayyadakumand strengthened you
بِنَصْرِهِۦ
binaṣrihiwith His help
وَرَزَقَكُم
warazaqakumand provided you
مِّنَ
minaof
ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ
l-ṭayibātithe good things
لَعَلَّكُمْ
laʿallakumso that you may
تَشْكُرُونَ
tashkurūna(be) thankful
٢٦
(26)
And remember when you were few and oppressed in the land, fearing that people might abduct you, but He sheltered you, supported you with His victory, and provided you with good things - that you might be grateful.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who(believe)
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieve
لَا
(Do) not
تَخُونُوا۟
takhūnūbetray
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
وَٱلرَّسُولَ
wal-rasūlaand the Messenger
وَتَخُونُوٓا۟
watakhūnūor betray
أَمَـٰنَـٰتِكُمْ
amānātikumyour trusts
وَأَنتُمْ
wa-antumwhile you
تَعْلَمُونَ
taʿlamūnaknow
٢٧
(27)
O you who have believed, do not betray Allāh and the Messenger or betray your trusts while you know [the consequence].

وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟
wa-iʿ'lamūAnd know
أَنَّمَآ
annamāthat
أَمْوَٰلُكُمْ
amwālukumyour wealth
وَأَوْلَـٰدُكُمْ
wa-awlādukumand your children
فِتْنَةٌۭ
fit'natun(are) a trial
وَأَنَّ
wa-annaAnd that
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
عِندَهُۥٓ
ʿindahuwith Him
أَجْرٌ
ajrun(is) a reward
عَظِيمٌۭ
ʿaẓīmungreat
٢٨
(28)
And know that your properties and your children are but a trial and that Allāh has with Him a great reward.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who(believe)
ءَامَنُوٓا۟
āmanūbelieve
إِن
inIf
تَتَّقُوا۟
tattaqūyou fear
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
يَجْعَل
yajʿalHe will grant
لَّكُمْ
lakumyou
فُرْقَانًۭا
fur'qānana criterion
وَيُكَفِّرْ
wayukaffirand will remove
عَنكُمْ
ʿankumfrom you
سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْ
sayyiātikumyour evil deeds
وَيَغْفِرْ
wayaghfirand forgive
لَكُمْ ۗ
lakumyou
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahuAnd Allah
ذُو
dhū(is) the Possessor
ٱلْفَضْلِ
l-faḍli(of) Bounty
ٱلْعَظِيمِ
l-ʿaẓīmithe Great
٢٩
(29)
O you who have believed, if you fear Allāh, He will grant you a criterion and will remove from you your misdeeds and forgive you. And Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.

وَإِذْ
wa-idhAnd when
يَمْكُرُ
yamkuruplotted
بِكَ
bikaagainst you
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieved
لِيُثْبِتُوكَ
liyuth'bitūkathat they restrain you
أَوْ
awor
يَقْتُلُوكَ
yaqtulūkakill you
أَوْ
awor
يُخْرِجُوكَ ۚ
yukh'rijūkadrive you out
وَيَمْكُرُونَ
wayamkurūnaAnd they were planning
وَيَمْكُرُ
wayamkuruand (also) was planning
ٱللَّهُ ۖ
l-lahuAllah
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahuAnd Allah
خَيْرُ
khayruis (the) Best
ٱلْمَـٰكِرِينَ
l-mākirīna(of) the Planners
٣٠
(30)
And [remember, O Muḥammad], when those who disbelieved plotted against you to restrain you or kill you or evict you [from Makkah]. But they plan, and Allāh plans. And Allāh is the best of planners.

وَإِذَا
wa-idhāAnd when
تُتْلَىٰ
tut'lāare recited
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhimto them
ءَايَـٰتُنَا
āyātunāOur Verses
قَالُوا۟
qālūthey say
قَدْ
qadVerily
سَمِعْنَا
samiʿ'nāwe have heard
لَوْ
lawif
نَشَآءُ
nashāuwe wish
لَقُلْنَا
laqul'nāsurely, we could say
مِثْلَ
mith'lalike
هَـٰذَآ ۙ
hādhāthis
إِنْ
inNot
هَـٰذَآ
hādhāis this
إِلَّآ
illābut
أَسَـٰطِيرُ
asāṭīrutales
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
l-awalīna(of) the former (people)
٣١
(31)
And when Our verses are recited to them, they say, "We have heard. If we willed, we could say [something] like this. This is not but legends of the former peoples."

وَإِذْ
wa-idhAnd when
قَالُوا۟
qālūthey said
ٱللَّهُمَّ
l-lahumaO Allah
إِن
inIf
كَانَ
kānawas
هَـٰذَا
hādhāthis
هُوَ
huwa[it]
ٱلْحَقَّ
l-ḥaqathe truth
مِنْ
min[of]
عِندِكَ
ʿindikafrom You
فَأَمْطِرْ
fa-amṭirthen (send) rain
عَلَيْنَا
ʿalaynāupon us
حِجَارَةًۭ
ḥijāratan(of) stones
مِّنَ
minafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāithe sky
أَوِ
awior
ٱئْتِنَا
i'tinābring (upon) us
بِعَذَابٍ
biʿadhābina punishment
أَلِيمٍۢ
alīminpainful
٣٢
(32)
And [remember] when they said, "O Allāh, if this should be the truth from You, then rain down upon us stones from the sky or bring us a painful punishment."

وَمَا
wamāBut not
كَانَ
kānais
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu(for) Allah
لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ
liyuʿadhibahumthat He punishes them
وَأَنتَ
wa-antawhile you
فِيهِمْ ۚ
fīhim(are) among them
وَمَا
wamāand not
كَانَ
kānais
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
مُعَذِّبَهُمْ
muʿadhibahumthe One Who punishes them
وَهُمْ
wahumwhile they
يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ
yastaghfirūnaseek forgiveness
٣٣
(33)
But Allāh would not punish them while you, [O Muḥammad], are among them, and Allāh would not punish them while they seek forgiveness.

وَمَا
wamāBut what
لَهُمْ
lahum(is) for them
أَلَّا
allāthat not
يُعَذِّبَهُمُ
yuʿadhibahumu(should) punish them
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
وَهُمْ
wahumwhile they
يَصُدُّونَ
yaṣuddūnahinder (people)
عَنِ
ʿanifrom
ٱلْمَسْجِدِ
l-masjidiAl-Masjid
ٱلْحَرَامِ
l-ḥarāmiAl-Haraam
وَمَا
wamāwhile not
كَانُوٓا۟
kānūthey are
أَوْلِيَآءَهُۥٓ ۚ
awliyāahuits guardians
إِنْ
inNot (can be)
أَوْلِيَآؤُهُۥٓ
awliyāuhuits guardians
إِلَّا
illāexcept
ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ
l-mutaqūnathe ones who fear Allah
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
walākinnabut
أَكْثَرَهُمْ
aktharahummost of them
لَا
(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَ
yaʿlamūnaknow
٣٤
(34)
But why should Allāh not punish them while they obstruct [people] from al-Masjid al-Ḥarām and they were not [fit to be] its guardians? Its [true] guardians are not but the righteous, but most of them do not know.

وَمَا
wamāAnd not
كَانَ

صَلَاتُهُمْ
ṣalātuhumtheir prayer
عِندَ
ʿindaat
ٱلْبَيْتِ
l-baytithe House
إِلَّا
illāexcept
مُكَآءًۭ
mukāanwhistling
وَتَصْدِيَةًۭ ۚ
wataṣdiyatanand clapping
فَذُوقُوا۟
fadhūqūSo taste
ٱلْعَذَابَ
l-ʿadhābathe punishment
بِمَا
bimābecause
كُنتُمْ
kuntumyou used to
تَكْفُرُونَ
takfurūnadisbelieve
٣٥
(35)
And their prayer at the House [i.e., the Kaʿbah] was not except whistling and handclapping. So taste the punishment for what you disbelieved [i.e., practiced of deviations].

إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
يُنفِقُونَ
yunfiqūnathey spend
أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ
amwālahumtheir wealth
لِيَصُدُّوا۟
liyaṣuddūto hinder (people)
عَن
ʿanfrom
سَبِيلِ
sabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِ ۚ
l-lahi(of) Allah
فَسَيُنفِقُونَهَا
fasayunfiqūnahāSo they will spend it
ثُمَّ
thummathen
تَكُونُ
takūnuit will be
عَلَيْهِمْ
ʿalayhimfor them
حَسْرَةًۭ
ḥasratana regret
ثُمَّ
thummathen
يُغْلَبُونَ ۗ
yugh'labūnathey will be overcome
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaAnd those who
كَفَرُوٓا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
إِلَىٰ
ilāto
جَهَنَّمَ
jahannamaHell
يُحْشَرُونَ
yuḥ'sharūnathey will be gathered
٣٦
(36)
Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to avert [people] from the way of Allāh. So they will spend it; then it will be for them a [source of] regret; then they will be overcome. And those who have disbelieved - unto Hell they will be gathered.

لِيَمِيزَ
liyamīzaThat may distinguish
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
ٱلْخَبِيثَ
l-khabīthathe wicked
مِنَ
minafrom
ٱلطَّيِّبِ
l-ṭayibithe good
وَيَجْعَلَ
wayajʿalaand place
ٱلْخَبِيثَ
l-khabīthathe wicked
بَعْضَهُۥ
baʿḍahusome of them
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāon
بَعْضٍۢ
baʿḍinothers
فَيَرْكُمَهُۥ
fayarkumahuand heap them
جَمِيعًۭا
jamīʿanall together
فَيَجْعَلَهُۥ
fayajʿalahuand put them
فِى
in
جَهَنَّمَ ۚ
jahannamaHell
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāikaThose
هُمُ
humuthey
ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ
l-khāsirūna(are) the losers
٣٧
(37)
[It is] so that Allāh may distinguish the wicked from the good and place the wicked some of them upon others and heap them all together and put them into Hell. It is those who are the losers.

قُل
qulSay
لِّلَّذِينَ
lilladhīnato those who
كَفَرُوٓا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
إِن
inif
يَنتَهُوا۟
yantahūthey cease
يُغْفَرْ
yugh'farwill be forgiven
لَهُم
lahumfor them
مَّا
what
قَدْ
qad[verily]
سَلَفَ
salafa(is) past
وَإِن
wa-inBut if
يَعُودُوا۟
yaʿūdūthey return
فَقَدْ
faqadthen verily
مَضَتْ
maḍatpreceded
سُنَّتُ
sunnatu(the) practice
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
l-awalīna(of) the former (people)
٣٨
(38)
Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them. But if they return [to hostility] - then the precedent of the former [rebellious] peoples has already taken place.

وَقَـٰتِلُوهُمْ
waqātilūhumAnd fight them
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattāuntil
لَا
not
تَكُونَ
takūnathere is
فِتْنَةٌۭ
fit'natunoppression
وَيَكُونَ
wayakūnaand is
ٱلدِّينُ
l-dīnuthe religion
كُلُّهُۥ
kulluhuall of it
لِلَّهِ ۚ
lillahifor Allah
فَإِنِ
fa-iniBut if
ٱنتَهَوْا۟
intahawthey cease
فَإِنَّ
fa-innathen indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
بِمَا
bimāof what
يَعْمَلُونَ
yaʿmalūnathey do
بَصِيرٌۭ
baṣīrun(is) All-Seer
٣٩
(39)
And fight against them until there is no fitnah and [until] the religion [i.e., worship], all of it, is for Allāh. And if they cease - then indeed, Allāh is Seeing of what they do.

وَإِن
wa-inAnd if
تَوَلَّوْا۟
tawallawthey turn away
فَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟
fa-iʿ'lamūthen know
أَنَّ
annathat
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
مَوْلَىٰكُمْ ۚ
mawlākum(is) your Protector
نِعْمَ
niʿ'maExcellent
ٱلْمَوْلَىٰ
l-mawlā(is) the Protector
وَنِعْمَ
waniʿ'maand Excellent
ٱلنَّصِيرُ
l-naṣīru(is) the Helper
٤٠
(40)
But if they turn away - then know that Allāh is your protector. Excellent is the protector, and excellent is the helper.

۞ وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟
wa-iʿ'lamūAnd know
أَنَّمَا
annamāthat what
غَنِمْتُم
ghanim'tumyou obtain (as) spoils of war
مِّن
minof
شَىْءٍۢ
shayinanything
فَأَنَّ
fa-annathen that
لِلَّهِ
lillahifor Allah
خُمُسَهُۥ
khumusahu(is) one fifth of it
وَلِلرَّسُولِ
walilrrasūliand for the Messenger
وَلِذِى
walidhīand for the
ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ
l-qur'bānear relatives
وَٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ
wal-yatāmāand the orphans
وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينِ
wal-masākīniand the needy
وَٱبْنِ
wa-ib'niand the
ٱلسَّبِيلِ
l-sabīliwayfarer
إِن
inif
كُنتُمْ
kuntumyou
ءَامَنتُم
āmantumbelieve
بِٱللَّهِ
bil-lahiin Allah
وَمَآ
wamāand (in) what
أَنزَلْنَا
anzalnāWe sent down
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāto
عَبْدِنَا
ʿabdināOur slave
يَوْمَ
yawma(on the) day
ٱلْفُرْقَانِ
l-fur'qāni(of) the criterion
يَوْمَ
yawma(the) day
ٱلْتَقَى
l-taqā(when) met
ٱلْجَمْعَانِ ۗ
l-jamʿānithe two forces
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahuAnd Allah
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā(is) on
كُلِّ
kullievery
شَىْءٍۢ
shayinthing
قَدِيرٌ
qadīrunAll-Powerful
٤١
(41)
And know that anything you obtain of war booty - then indeed, for Allāh is one fifth of it and for the Messenger and for [his] near relatives and the orphans, the needy, and the [stranded] traveler, if you have believed in Allāh and in that which We sent down to Our Servant on the day of criterion [i.e., decisive encounter] - the day when the two armies met [at Badr]. And Allāh, over all things, is competent.

أَنتُم
antumyou (were)
بِٱلْعُدْوَةِ
bil-ʿud'wation side of the valley
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yāthe nearer
وَهُم
wahumand they
بِٱلْعُدْوَةِ
bil-ʿud'wati(were) on the side
ٱلْقُصْوَىٰ
l-quṣ'wāthe farther
وَٱلرَّكْبُ
wal-rakbuand the caravan
أَسْفَلَ
asfala(was) lower
مِنكُمْ ۚ
minkumthan you
وَلَوْ
walawAnd if
تَوَاعَدتُّمْ
tawāʿadttumyou (had) made an appointment
لَٱخْتَلَفْتُمْ
la-ikh'talaftumcertainly you would have failed
فِى
in
ٱلْمِيعَـٰدِ ۙ
l-mīʿādithe appointment
وَلَـٰكِن
walākinBut
لِّيَقْضِىَ
liyaqḍiyathat might accomplish
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
أَمْرًۭا
amrana matter
كَانَ
kāna(that) was
مَفْعُولًۭا
mafʿūlandestined
لِّيَهْلِكَ
liyahlikathat (might be) destroyed
مَنْ
man(those) who
هَلَكَ
halaka(were to be) destroyed
عَنۢ
ʿanon
بَيِّنَةٍۢ
bayyinatina clear evidence
وَيَحْيَىٰ
wayaḥyāand (might) live
مَنْ
man(those) who
حَىَّ
ḥayya(were to) live
عَنۢ
ʿanon
بَيِّنَةٍۢ ۗ
bayyinatina clear evidence
وَإِنَّ
wa-innaAnd indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
لَسَمِيعٌ
lasamīʿun(is) All-Hearing
عَلِيمٌ
ʿalīmunAll-Knowing
٤٢
(42)
[Remember] when you were on the near side of the valley, and they were on the farther side, and the caravan was lower [in position] than you. If you had made an appointment [to meet], you would have missed the appointment. But [it was] so that Allāh might accomplish a matter already destined - that those who perished [through disbelief] would perish upon evidence and those who lived [in faith] would live upon evidence; and indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.

إِذْ
idhWhen
يُرِيكَهُمُ
yurīkahumuyou (where) shown them
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu(by) Allah
فِى
in
مَنَامِكَ
manāmikayour dream
قَلِيلًۭا ۖ
qalīlan(as) few
وَلَوْ
walawand if
أَرَىٰكَهُمْ
arākahumHe had shown them to you
كَثِيرًۭا
kathīran(as) many
لَّفَشِلْتُمْ
lafashil'tumsurely you would have lost courage
وَلَتَنَـٰزَعْتُمْ
walatanāzaʿtumand surely you would have disputed
فِى
in
ٱلْأَمْرِ
l-amrithe matter
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
walākinnabut
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
سَلَّمَ ۗ
sallamasaved (you)
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, He
عَلِيمٌۢ
ʿalīmun(is) All-Knower
بِذَاتِ
bidhātiof what is in
ٱلصُّدُورِ
l-ṣudūrithe breasts
٤٣
(43)
[Remember, O Muḥammad], when Allāh showed them to you in your dream as few; and if He had shown them to you as many, you [believers] would have lost courage and would have disputed in the matter [of whether to fight], but Allāh saved [you from that]. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.

وَإِذْ
wa-idhAnd when
يُرِيكُمُوهُمْ
yurīkumūhumHe showed them to you
إِذِ
idhiwhen
ٱلْتَقَيْتُمْ
l-taqaytumyou met
فِىٓ
in
أَعْيُنِكُمْ
aʿyunikumyour eyes
قَلِيلًۭا
qalīlan(as) few
وَيُقَلِّلُكُمْ
wayuqallilukumand He made you (appear) as few
فِىٓ
in
أَعْيُنِهِمْ
aʿyunihimtheir eyes
لِيَقْضِىَ
liyaqḍiyathat might accomplish
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah might accomplish
أَمْرًۭا
amrana matter
كَانَ
kāna(that) was
مَفْعُولًۭا ۗ
mafʿūlan(already) destined
وَإِلَى
wa-ilāAnd to
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
تُرْجَعُ
tur'jaʿureturn
ٱلْأُمُورُ
l-umūru(all) the matters
٤٤
(44)
And [remember] when He showed them to you, when you met, as few in your eyes, and He made you [appear] as few in their eyes so that Allāh might accomplish a matter already destined. And to Allāh are [all] matters returned.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
yāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who(believe)
ءَامَنُوٓا۟
āmanūbelieve
إِذَا
idhāWhen
لَقِيتُمْ
laqītumyou meet
فِئَةًۭ
fi-atana force
فَٱثْبُتُوا۟
fa-uth'butūthen be firm
وَٱذْكُرُوا۟
wa-udh'kurūand remember
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
كَثِيرًۭا
kathīranmuch
لَّعَلَّكُمْ
laʿallakumso that you may
تُفْلِحُونَ
tuf'liḥūna(be) successful
٤٥
(45)
O you who have believed, when you encounter a company [from the enemy forces], stand firm and remember Allāh much that you may be successful.

وَأَطِيعُوا۟
wa-aṭīʿūAnd obey
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
وَرَسُولَهُۥ
warasūlahuand His Messenger
وَلَا
walāand (do) not
تَنَـٰزَعُوا۟
tanāzaʿūdispute
فَتَفْشَلُوا۟
fatafshalūlest you lose courage
وَتَذْهَبَ
watadhhabaand (would) depart
رِيحُكُمْ ۖ
rīḥukumyour strength
وَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟ ۚ
wa-iṣ'birūand be patient
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
مَعَ
maʿa(is) with
ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ
l-ṣābirīnathe patient ones
٤٦
(46)
And obey Allāh and His Messenger, and do not dispute and [thus] lose courage and [then] your strength would depart; and be patient. Indeed, Allāh is with the patient.

وَلَا
walāAnd (do) not
تَكُونُوا۟
takūnūbe
كَٱلَّذِينَ
ka-alladhīnalike those who
خَرَجُوا۟
kharajūcame forth
مِن
minfrom
دِيَـٰرِهِم
diyārihimtheir homes
بَطَرًۭا
baṭaranboastfully
وَرِئَآءَ
wariāaand showing off
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsi(to) the people
وَيَصُدُّونَ
wayaṣuddūnaand hinder (them)
عَن
ʿanfrom
سَبِيلِ
sabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِ ۚ
l-lahi(of) Allah
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahuAnd Allah
بِمَا
bimāof what
يَعْمَلُونَ
yaʿmalūnathey do
مُحِيطٌۭ
muḥīṭun(is) All-Encompassing
٤٧
(47)
And do not be like those who came forth from their homes insolently and to be seen by people and avert [them] from the way of Allāh. And Allāh is encompassing of what they do.

وَإِذْ
wa-idhAnd when
زَيَّنَ
zayyanamade fair-seeming
لَهُمُ
lahumuto them
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ
l-shayṭānuthe Shaitaan
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
aʿmālahumtheir deeds
وَقَالَ
waqālaand he said
لَا
No (one)
غَالِبَ
ghāliba(can) overcome
لَكُمُ
lakumu[to] you
ٱلْيَوْمَ
l-yawmatoday
مِنَ
minafrom
ٱلنَّاسِ
l-nāsithe people
وَإِنِّى
wa-innīand indeed, I am
جَارٌۭ
jāruna neighbor
لَّكُمْ ۖ
lakumfor you
فَلَمَّا
falammāBut when
تَرَآءَتِ
tarāaticame in sight
ٱلْفِئَتَانِ
l-fi-atānithe two forces
نَكَصَ
nakaṣahe turned away
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāon
عَقِبَيْهِ
ʿaqibayhihis heels
وَقَالَ
waqālaand said
إِنِّى
innīIndeed, I am
بَرِىٓءٌۭ
barīonfree
مِّنكُمْ
minkumof you
إِنِّىٓ
innīIndeed, I
أَرَىٰ
arāsee
مَا
what
لَا
not
تَرَوْنَ
tarawnayou see
إِنِّىٓ
innīindeed, I
أَخَافُ
akhāfu[I] fear
ٱللَّهَ ۚ
l-lahaAllah
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahuAnd Allah
شَدِيدُ
shadīdu(is) severe
ٱلْعِقَابِ
l-ʿiqābi(in) the penalty
٤٨
(48)
And [remember] when Satan made their deeds pleasing to them and said, "No one can overcome you today from among the people, and indeed, I am your protector." But when the two armies sighted each other, he turned on his heels and said, "Indeed, I am disassociated from you. Indeed, I see what you do not see; indeed, I fear Allāh. And Allāh is severe in penalty."

إِذْ
idhWhen
يَقُولُ
yaqūlusaid
ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقُونَ
l-munāfiqūnathe hypocrites
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaand those who
فِى
in
قُلُوبِهِم
qulūbihimtheir hearts
مَّرَضٌ
maraḍun(was) a disease
غَرَّ
gharra(Had) deluded
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ
hāulāithese (people)
دِينُهُمْ ۗ
dīnuhumtheir religion
وَمَن
wamanBut whoever
يَتَوَكَّلْ
yatawakkalputs (his) trust
عَلَى
ʿalāin
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
فَإِنَّ
fa-innathen indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
عَزِيزٌ
ʿazīzun(is) All-Mighty
حَكِيمٌۭ
ḥakīmunAll-Wise
٤٩
(49)
[Remember] when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts was disease [i.e., arrogance and disbelief] said, "Their religion has deluded those [Muslims]." But whoever relies upon Allāh - then indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.

وَلَوْ
walawAnd if
تَرَىٰٓ
tarāyou (could) see
إِذْ
idhwhen
يَتَوَفَّى
yatawaffātake away souls
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟ ۙ
kafarūdisbelieve
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ
l-malāikatuthe Angels
يَضْرِبُونَ
yaḍribūnastriking
وُجُوهَهُمْ
wujūhahumtheir faces
وَأَدْبَـٰرَهُمْ
wa-adbārahumand their backs
وَذُوقُوا۟
wadhūqūTaste
عَذَابَ
ʿadhāba(the) punishment
ٱلْحَرِيقِ
l-ḥarīqi(of) the Blazing Fire
٥٠
(50)
And if you could but see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved... They are striking their faces and their backs and [saying], "Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire.

ذَٰلِكَ
dhālikaThat
بِمَا
bimā(is) for what
قَدَّمَتْ
qaddamatsent forth
أَيْدِيكُمْ
aydīkumyour hands
وَأَنَّ
wa-annaAnd indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
لَيْسَ
laysa(is) not
بِظَلَّـٰمٍۢ
biẓallāminunjust
لِّلْعَبِيدِ
lil'ʿabīdito His slaves
٥١
(51)
That is for what your hands have put forth [of evil] and because Allāh is not ever unjust to [His] servants."

كَدَأْبِ
kadabiLike (the) way
ءَالِ
āli(of) people
فِرْعَوْنَ ۙ
fir'ʿawna(of) Firaun
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaand those who
مِن
min(were) from
قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ
qablihimbefore them
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūThey disbelieved
بِـَٔايَـٰتِ
biāyātiin (the) Signs
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
فَأَخَذَهُمُ
fa-akhadhahumuso seized them
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
بِذُنُوبِهِمْ ۗ
bidhunūbihimfor their sins
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
قَوِىٌّۭ
qawiyyun(is) All-Strong
شَدِيدُ
shadīdu(and) severe
ٱلْعِقَابِ
l-ʿiqābi(in) the penalty
٥٢
(52)
[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and of those before them. They disbelieved in the signs of Allāh, so Allāh seized them for their sins. Indeed, Allāh is Powerful and severe in penalty.

بِأَنَّ
bi-anna(is) because
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
لَمْ
lamnot
يَكُ
yakuis
مُغَيِّرًۭا
mughayyiranOne Who changes
نِّعْمَةً
niʿ'matana favor
أَنْعَمَهَا
anʿamahāwhich He had bestowed
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāon
قَوْمٍ
qawmina people
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattāuntil
يُغَيِّرُوا۟
yughayyirūthey change
مَا
what
بِأَنفُسِهِمْ ۙ
bi-anfusihim(is) in themselves
وَأَنَّ
wa-annaAnd indeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
سَمِيعٌ
samīʿun(is) All-Hearing
عَلِيمٌۭ
ʿalīmunAll-Knowing
٥٣
(53)
That is because Allāh would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon a people until they change what is within themselves. And indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.

فَأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُم

بِذُنُوبِهِمْ

وَأَغْرَقْنَآ
wa-aghraqnāand We drowned
ءَالَ
āla(the) people
فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ
fir'ʿawna(of) Firaun
وَكُلٌّۭ
wakullunand (they) all
كَانُوا۟
kānūwere
ظَـٰلِمِينَ
ẓālimīnawrongdoers
٥٤
(54)
[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and of those before them. They denied the signs of their Lord, so We destroyed them for their sins, and We drowned the people of Pharaoh. And all [of them] were wrongdoers.

شَرَّ
sharra(the) worst
ٱلدَّوَآبِّ
l-dawābi(of) the living creatures
عِندَ
ʿindanear
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīna(are) those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
فَهُمْ
fahumand they
لَا
(will) not
يُؤْمِنُونَ
yu'minūnabelieve
٥٥
(55)
Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allāh are those who have disbelieved, and they will not [ever] believe-

ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnaThose who
عَـٰهَدتَّ
ʿāhadttayou made a covenant
مِنْهُمْ
min'humwith them
ثُمَّ
thummathen
يَنقُضُونَ
yanquḍūnathey break
عَهْدَهُمْ
ʿahdahumtheir covenant
فِى
[in]
كُلِّ
kullievery
مَرَّةٍۢ
marratintime
وَهُمْ
wahumand they
لَا
(do) not
يَتَّقُونَ
yattaqūnafear (Allah)
٥٦
(56)
The ones with whom you made a treaty but then they break their pledge every time, and they do not fear Allāh.

فَإِمَّا
fa-immāSo if
تَثْقَفَنَّهُمْ
tathqafannahumyou gain dominance over them
فِى
in
ٱلْحَرْبِ
l-ḥarbithe war
فَشَرِّدْ
fasharriddisperse
بِهِم
bihimby them
مَّنْ
man(those) who
خَلْفَهُمْ
khalfahum(are) behind them
لَعَلَّهُمْ
laʿallahumso that they may
يَذَّكَّرُونَ
yadhakkarūnatake heed
٥٧
(57)
So if you, [O Muḥammad], gain dominance over them in war, disperse by [means of] them those behind them that perhaps they will be reminded.

وَإِمَّا
wa-immāAnd if
تَخَافَنَّ
takhāfannayou fear
مِن
minfrom
قَوْمٍ
qawmina people
خِيَانَةًۭ
khiyānatanbetrayal
فَٱنۢبِذْ
fa-inbidhthrow back
إِلَيْهِمْ
ilayhimto them
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāon
سَوَآءٍ ۚ
sawāinequal (terms)
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
لَا
(does) not
يُحِبُّ
yuḥibbulove
ٱلْخَآئِنِينَ
l-khāinīnathe traitors
٥٨
(58)
If you [have reason to] fear from a people betrayal, throw [their treaty] back to them, [putting you] on equal terms. Indeed, Allāh does not like traitors.

يَحْسَبَنَّ
yaḥsabannathink
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
سَبَقُوٓا۟ ۚ
sabaqūthey can outstrip
إِنَّهُمْ
innahumIndeed, they
لَا
(can) not
يُعْجِزُونَ
yuʿ'jizūnaescape
٥٩
(59)
And let not those who disbelieve think they will escape. Indeed, they will not cause failure [to Allāh].

وَأَعِدُّوا۟
wa-aʿiddūAnd prepare
لَهُم
lahumfor them
مَّا
whatever
ٱسْتَطَعْتُم
is'taṭaʿtumyou able (to)
مِّن
minof
قُوَّةٍۢ
quwwatinforce
وَمِن
waminand of
رِّبَاطِ
ribāṭitethered
ٱلْخَيْلِ
l-khaylihorses
تُرْهِبُونَ
tur'hibūna(to) terrify
بِهِۦ
bihitherewith
عَدُوَّ
ʿaduwwa(the) enemy
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
وَعَدُوَّكُمْ
waʿaduwwakumand your enemy
وَءَاخَرِينَ
waākharīnaand others
مِن
minfrom
دُونِهِمْ
dūnihimbesides them
لَا
not
تَعْلَمُونَهُمُ
taʿlamūnahumu(do) you know them
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu(but) Allah
يَعْلَمُهُمْ ۚ
yaʿlamuhumknows them
وَمَا
wamāAnd whatever
تُنفِقُوا۟
tunfiqūyou spend
مِن
minfrom
شَىْءٍۢ
shayin(any) thing
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
sabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
يُوَفَّ
yuwaffait will be fully repaid
إِلَيْكُمْ
ilaykumto you
وَأَنتُمْ
wa-antumand you
لَا
(will) not
تُظْلَمُونَ
tuẓ'lamūnabe wronged
٦٠
(60)
And prepare against them whatever you are able of power and of steeds of war by which you may terrify the enemy of Allāh and your enemy and others besides them whom you do not know [but] whom Allāh knows. And whatever you spend in the cause of Allāh will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be wronged.

۞ وَإِن

جَنَحُوا۟
janaḥūthey incline
لِلسَّلْمِ
lilssalmito peace
فَٱجْنَحْ
fa-ij'naḥthen you (also) incline
لَهَا
lahāto it
وَتَوَكَّلْ
watawakkaland put (your) trust
عَلَى
ʿalāin
ٱللَّهِ ۚ
l-lahiAllah
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed
هُوَ
huwaHe
ٱلسَّمِيعُ
l-samīʿu(is) All-Hearer
ٱلْعَلِيمُ
l-ʿalīmuAll-Knower
٦١
(61)
And if they incline to peace, then incline to it [also] and rely upon Allāh. Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Knowing.

يُرِيدُوٓا۟
yurīdūthey intend
أَن

يَخْدَعُوكَ
yakhdaʿūkadeceive you
فَإِنَّ
fa-innathen indeed
حَسْبَكَ
ḥasbakais sufficient for you
ٱللَّهُ ۚ
l-lahuAllah
هُوَ
huwaHe
ٱلَّذِىٓ
alladhī(is) the One Who
أَيَّدَكَ
ayyadakasupported you
بِنَصْرِهِۦ
binaṣrihiwith His help
وَبِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
wabil-mu'minīnaand with the believers
٦٢
(62)
But if they intend to deceive you - then sufficient for you is Allāh. It is He who supported you with His help and with the believers

وَأَلَّفَ
wa-allafaAnd He (has) put affection
بَيْنَ
baynabetween
قُلُوبِهِمْ ۚ
qulūbihimtheir hearts
لَوْ
lawIf
أَنفَقْتَ
anfaqtayou (had) spent
مَا
whatever
فِى
(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
جَمِيعًۭا
jamīʿanall
مَّآ
not
أَلَّفْتَ
allafta(could) you (have) put affection
بَيْنَ
baynabetween
قُلُوبِهِمْ
qulūbihimtheir hearts
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
walākinnabut
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
أَلَّفَ
allafa(has) put affection
بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ
baynahumbetween them
إِنَّهُۥ
innahuIndeed, He
عَزِيزٌ
ʿazīzun(is) All-Mighty
حَكِيمٌۭ
ḥakīmunAll-Wise
٦٣
(63)
And brought together their hearts. If you had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have brought their hearts together; but Allāh brought them together. Indeed, He is Exalted in Might and Wise.

ٱلنَّبِىُّ
l-nabiyuProphet
حَسْبُكَ
ḥasbukaSufficient for you
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu(is) Allah
وَمَنِ
wamaniand whoever
ٱتَّبَعَكَ
ittabaʿakafollows you
مِنَ
minaof
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
l-mu'minīnathe believers
٦٤
(64)
O Prophet, sufficient for you is Allāh and for whoever follows you of the believers.

ٱلنَّبِىُّ

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

ٱلْقِتَالِ ۚ
l-qitāli[the] fight
إِن

يَكُن
yakun(there) are
مِّنكُمْ
minkumamong you
عِشْرُونَ
ʿish'rūnatwenty
صَـٰبِرُونَ
ṣābirūnasteadfast
يَغْلِبُوا۟
yaghlibūthey will overcome
مِا۟ئَتَيْنِ ۚ
mi-ataynitwo hundred
وَإِن
wa-inAnd if
يَكُن
yakun(there) are
مِّنكُم
minkumamong you
مِّا۟ئَةٌۭ
mi-atuna hundred
يَغْلِبُوٓا۟
yaghlibūthey will overcome
أَلْفًۭا
alfana thousand
مِّنَ
minaof
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
بِأَنَّهُمْ
bi-annahumbecause they
قَوْمٌۭ
qawmun(are) a people
لَّا
(who do) not
يَفْقَهُونَ
yafqahūnaunderstand
٦٥
(65)
O Prophet, urge the believers to battle. If there are among you twenty [who are] steadfast, they will overcome two hundred. And if there are among you one hundred [who are steadfast], they will overcome a thousand of those who have disbelieved because they are a people who do not understand.

ٱلْـَٔـٰنَ
al-ānaNow
خَفَّفَ
khaffafahas (been) lightened
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu(by) Allah
عَنكُمْ
ʿankumfor you
وَعَلِمَ
waʿalimaand He knows
أَنَّ
annathat
فِيكُمْ
fīkumin you
ضَعْفًۭا ۚ
ḍaʿfan(there) is weakness
فَإِن
fa-inSo if
يَكُن
yakun(there) are
مِّنكُم
minkumamong you
مِّا۟ئَةٌۭ
mi-atuna hundred
صَابِرَةٌۭ
ṣābiratunsteadfast
يَغْلِبُوا۟
yaghlibūthey will overcome
مِا۟ئَتَيْنِ ۚ
mi-ataynitwo hundred
وَإِن
wa-inAnd if
يَكُن
yakun(there) are
مِّنكُمْ
minkumamong you
أَلْفٌۭ
alfuna thousand
يَغْلِبُوٓا۟
yaghlibūthey will overcome
أَلْفَيْنِ
alfaynitwo thousand
بِإِذْنِ
bi-idh'niwith (the) permission
ٱللَّهِ ۗ
l-lahi(of) Allah
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahuAnd Allah
مَعَ
maʿa(is) with
ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ
l-ṣābirīnathe steadfast
٦٦
(66)
Now, Allāh has lightened [the hardship] for you, and He knows that among you is weakness. So if there are from you one hundred [who are] steadfast, they will overcome two hundred. And if there are among you a thousand, they will overcome two thousand by permission of Allāh. And Allāh is with the steadfast.

لِنَبِىٍّ
linabiyyinfor a Prophet
أَن
anthat
يَكُونَ
yakūna(there) should be
لَهُۥٓ
lahufor him
أَسْرَىٰ
asrāprisoners of war
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattāuntil
يُثْخِنَ
yuth'khinahe has battled strenuously
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ
l-arḍithe land
تُرِيدُونَ
turīdūnaYou desire
عَرَضَ
ʿaraḍa(the) commodities
ٱلدُّنْيَا
l-dun'yā(of) the world
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahubut Allah
يُرِيدُ
yurīdudesires
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۗ
l-ākhirata(for you) the Hereafter
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahuAnd Allah
عَزِيزٌ
ʿazīzun(is) All-Mighty
حَكِيمٌۭ
ḥakīmunAll-Wise
٦٧
(67)
It is not for a prophet to have captives [of war] until he inflicts a massacre [upon Allāh's enemies] in the land. You [i.e., some Muslims] desire the commodities of this world, but Allāh desires [for you] the Hereafter. And Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.

lawlāHad not
كِتَـٰبٌۭ
kitābunan ordainment
مِّنَ
minafrom
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahiAllah
سَبَقَ
sabaqapreceded
لَمَسَّكُمْ
lamassakumsurely (would) have touched you
فِيمَآ
fīmāfor what
أَخَذْتُمْ
akhadhtumyou took
عَذَابٌ
ʿadhābuna punishment
عَظِيمٌۭ
ʿaẓīmungreat
٦٨
(68)
If not for a decree from Allāh that preceded, you would have been touched for what you took by a great punishment.

فَكُلُوا۟
fakulūSo eat
مِمَّا
mimmāfrom what
غَنِمْتُمْ
ghanim'tumyou got as war booty
حَلَـٰلًۭا
ḥalālanlawful
طَيِّبًۭا ۚ
ṭayyiban(and) good
وَٱتَّقُوا۟
wa-ittaqūand fear
ٱللَّهَ ۚ
l-lahaAllah
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
غَفُورٌۭ
ghafūrun(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭ
raḥīmunMost Merciful
٦٩
(69)
So consume what you have taken of war booty [as being] lawful and good, and fear Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.

لِّمَن

ٱلْأَسْرَىٰٓ
l-asrāthe captives
إِن
inIf
يَعْلَمِ
yaʿlamiknows
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahuAllah
فِى
in
قُلُوبِكُمْ
qulūbikumyour hearts
خَيْرًۭا
khayranany good
يُؤْتِكُمْ
yu'tikumHe will give you
خَيْرًۭا
khayranbetter
مِّمَّآ
mimmāthan what
أُخِذَ
ukhidhawas taken
مِنكُمْ
minkumfrom you
وَيَغْفِرْ
wayaghfirand He will forgive
لَكُمْ ۗ
lakumyou
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahuAnd Allah
غَفُورٌۭ
ghafūrun(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭ
raḥīmunMost Merciful
٧٠
(70)
O Prophet, say to whoever is in your hands of the captives, "If Allāh knows [any] good in your hearts, He will give you [something] better than what was taken from you, and He will forgive you; and Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful."

يُرِيدُوا۟

خِيَانَتَكَ
khiyānataka(to) betray you
فَقَدْ
faqadcertainly
خَانُوا۟
khānūthey have betrayed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
مِن
minfrom
قَبْلُ
qablubefore
فَأَمْكَنَ
fa-amkanaSo He gave (you) power
مِنْهُمْ ۗ
min'humover them
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahuAnd Allah
عَلِيمٌ
ʿalīmun(is) All-Knower
حَكِيمٌ
ḥakīmunAll-Wise
٧١
(71)
But if they intend to betray you - then they have already betrayed Allāh before, and He empowered [you] over them. And Allāh is Knowing and Wise.

ٱلَّذِينَ

ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieved
وَهَاجَرُوا۟
wahājarūand emigrated
وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟
wajāhadūand strove hard
بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ
bi-amwālihimwith their wealth
وَأَنفُسِهِمْ
wa-anfusihimand their lives
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
sabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaand those who
ءَاوَوا۟
āwawgave shelter
وَّنَصَرُوٓا۟
wanaṣarūand helped
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāikathose
بَعْضُهُمْ
baʿḍuhumsome of them
أَوْلِيَآءُ
awliyāu(are) allies
بَعْضٍۢ ۚ
baʿḍin(of) another
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaBut those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieved
وَلَمْ
walamand (did) not
يُهَاجِرُوا۟
yuhājirūemigrate
مَا
(it is) not
لَكُم
lakumfor you
مِّن
min(of)
وَلَـٰيَتِهِم
walāyatihimtheir protection
مِّن
min(in)
شَىْءٍ
shayin(in) anything
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattāuntil
يُهَاجِرُوا۟ ۚ
yuhājirūthey emigrate
وَإِنِ
wa-iniAnd if
ٱسْتَنصَرُوكُمْ
is'tanṣarūkumthey seek your help
فِى
in
ٱلدِّينِ
l-dīnithe religion
فَعَلَيْكُمُ
faʿalaykumuthen upon you
ٱلنَّصْرُ
l-naṣru(is to) help them
إِلَّا
illāexcept
عَلَىٰ
ʿalāagainst
قَوْمٍۭ
qawmina people
بَيْنَكُمْ
baynakumbetween you
وَبَيْنَهُم
wabaynahumand between them
مِّيثَـٰقٌۭ ۗ
mīthāqun(is) a treaty
وَٱللَّهُ

بِمَا

تَعْمَلُونَ
taʿmalūnayou do
بَصِيرٌۭ
baṣīrun(is) All-Seer
٧٢
(72)
Indeed, those who have believed and emigrated and fought with their wealth and lives in the cause of Allāh and those who gave shelter and aided - they are allies of one another. But those who believed and did not emigrate - for you there is no support of them until they emigrate. And if they seek help of you for the religion, then you must help, except against a people between yourselves and whom is a treaty. And Allāh is Seeing of what you do.

وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaAnd those who
كَفَرُوا۟
kafarūdisbelieve
بَعْضُهُمْ
baʿḍuhumsome of them
أَوْلِيَآءُ
awliyāu(are) allies
بَعْضٍ ۚ
baʿḍin(to) another
إِلَّا
illāIf not
تَفْعَلُوهُ
tafʿalūhuyou do it
تَكُن
takun(there) will be
فِتْنَةٌۭ
fit'natunoppression
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
l-arḍithe earth
وَفَسَادٌۭ
wafasādunand corruption
كَبِيرٌۭ
kabīrungreat
٧٣
(73)
And those who disbelieved are allies of one another. If you do not do so [i.e., ally yourselves with other believers], there will be fitnah [i.e., disbelief and oppression] on earth and great corruption.

وَٱلَّذِينَ

ءَامَنُوا۟
āmanūbelieved
وَهَاجَرُوا۟
wahājarūand emigrated
وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟
wajāhadūand strove hard
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
sabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
l-lahi(of) Allah
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhīnaand those who
ءَاوَوا۟
āwawgave shelter
وَّنَصَرُوٓا۟
wanaṣarūand helped
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ulāikathose
هُمُ
humuthey (are)
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
l-mu'minūnathe believers
حَقًّۭا ۚ
ḥaqqan(in) truth
لَّهُم
lahumFor them
مَّغْفِرَةٌۭ
maghfiratun(is) forgiveness
وَرِزْقٌۭ
wariz'qunand a provision
كَرِيمٌۭ
karīmunnoble
٧٤
(74)
But those who have believed and emigrated and fought in the cause of Allāh and those who gave shelter and aided - it is they who are the believers, truly. For them is forgiveness and noble provision.

وَٱلَّذِينَ

وَهَاجَرُوا۟
wahājarūand emigrated
وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟
wajāhadūand strove hard
مَعَكُمْ
maʿakumwith you
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
fa-ulāikathen those
مِنكُمْ ۚ
minkum(are) of you
وَأُو۟لُوا۟
wa-ulūBut those
ٱلْأَرْحَامِ
l-arḥāmi(of) blood relationship
بَعْضُهُمْ
baʿḍuhumsome of them
أَوْلَىٰ
awlā(are) nearer
بِبَعْضٍۢ
bibaʿḍinto another
فِى
in
كِتَـٰبِ
kitābi(the) Book
ٱللَّهِ ۗ
l-lahi(of) Allah
إِنَّ
innaIndeed
ٱللَّهَ
l-lahaAllah
بِكُلِّ
bikulliof every
شَىْءٍ
shayinthing
عَلِيمٌۢ
ʿalīmun(is) All-Knower
٧٥
(75)
And those who believed after [the initial emigration] and emigrated and fought with you - they are of you. But those of [blood] relationship are more entitled [to inheritance] in the decree of Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing of all things.
